NOKIA das große Geschäft. Die Finnen wollen sich aus
der Entwicklung der Chips für den Betrieb ihrer Handys
zurückziehen. Kurz- und mittelfristig wird NOKIA davon profitieren,
da die Entwicklungs- und Produktionskosten deutlich
fallen. Langfristig aber wird NOKIA mit dem Problem
zu kämpfen haben, sich vom Rest der anderen Handyhersteller
absetzen zu können. Nur wer eigene Chips und Software
entwickelt, wird der Innovationsführer bleiben.
Doch zu den Gewinnern dieser neuen Konstellation gehört
BROADCOM. Das Unternehmen hat von NOKIA den
Zuschlag für die Belieferung mit EDGE-Kommunikationschips bekommen und damit für die kommenden vier
Quartale ausgesorgt. Die Gewinnerwartungen bewegen sich nun bei einer Gewinndynamik, die sich zwischen
45 % im laufenden und 374 % im 2. Quartal 2008 bewegt. Das aktuelle KGV von 74 wirkt zwar abschreckend,
aber mit dem Geschäft von NOKIA wird das KGV im nächsten Jahr auf 26 fallen.
Angesichts dieser Dynamik und
der ausgesprochen attraktiven Charttechnik belebe ich hier mal wieder die Diskussion.Zumal Broadcom sich heute einen neuen dicken Fisch geangelt hat.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Wireless chipmaker Broadcom said on Sunday that number-two mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics was shipping next-generation handsets that use its chips to cellular operators.

The 3G phones, which can surf the Web and download data from the Internet faster than previous generations of phones, are on their way to operators in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and elsewhere, Broadcom said.

Number-one mobile phone maker Nokia has said it would buy phone chips from STMicroelectronics, Broadcom and Infineon, potentially decreasing the clout of market leaders Qualcomm and Texas Instruments, Nokia's long-time supplier.

Investors saw those earlier deals as key wins for Broadcom and STMicro as business from the leading mobile phone maker could promise a big-enough increase in sales volume to help them shoulder the cost of competing in the cash-intensive chip industry.

"The combined market share of those two companies (Nokia and Samsung) represents a significant market opportunity," said Yossi Cohen, who manages Broadcom's mobile platforms group.

Last year TI and Qualcomm each had about 20 percent of the mobile phone chip market, according to iSuppli. With a roughly 9 percent share, Freescale Semiconductor was next, but it is expected to lose market share as its main client, Motorola Inc, has also added TI and Qualcomm as suppliers.

Broadcom had a 1.4 percent market share in 2006 and STMicro had an almost 6 percent share.

The Broadcom chips that Samsung selected for its SGH-J750 and SGH-A401 3G phones include its BCM2133 EDGE baseband processor, the BCM2141 WCDMA co-processor, the BCM2045 Bluetooth transceiver and the BCM59001 power management unit.

Shares of Irvine, California-based Broadcom have risen 15 percent this year, compared with a 5.6 percent increase in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index.

As the holiday shopping season gets under way in the fourth quarter, Samsung Electronics is launching a new series of cell phones with Broadcom (NasdaqGS:BRCM - News) chips and software inside.

The No. 2 cell phone maker is selling the phones with Broadcom's advanced 3G (third-generation) cellular technology in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and other areas. Samsung also plans to release more products with Broadcom chips for the holiday season.

Deutsche Bank estimates that Samsung will produce 1 million units with Broadcom chips this year and 4 million to 5 million units next year.

"With its greater than 20 diversified product lines, we think Broadcom is among the best positioned to outgrow the broader semi market in 2007-2008," Deutsche Bank analysts said in a note to clients, reiterating their buy rating on the stock. "We believe the company is poised to become a major handset player over the next few years."

New High

Broadcom surged to a 11/2-year peak Monday in heavy trade. It broke out past a 36.94 buy point 14 a 10-month cup-with-handle base. Earnings have declined in the past three quarters on flat sales and were estimated to have fallen 15% in Q3.

But analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect sales growth to accelerate from 3% to 16% over the next four quarters.

The stock is a major component in three chip ETFs: SPDR S&P Semiconductor (AMEX:XSD - News), iShares S&P GSTI Semiconductor Index (NYSE:IGW - News) and ProShares Ultra Semiconductor (AMEX:USD - News), which doubles the daily performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Semiconductors Index.

It's not included in the 30-name PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductor (AMEX:PSI - News), which picks holdings based on fundamental growth, stock valuation, timeliness and risk.

mir fällt auf, das letzte woche ziemlich viele aktien mit gab nach unten eingebrochen sind.
die schätzungen für die quartalsgewinne sind wohl allgemein zu optimistisch eingeschätzt worden. eigentlich ein schlechtes zeichen für den gesamtmarkt.

Norfolk (aktiencheck.de AG) - Die Norfolk Southern Corp. (ISIN US6558441084/ WKN 867028) meldete am Dienstag nach US-Börsenschluss, dass ihr Gewinn im ersten Quartal 2008 trotz höherer Treibstoffkosten leicht gestiegen ist. Dennoch wurden damit die Erwartungen verfehlt. Beim Umsatz hingegen verzeichnete die viertgrößte Eisenbahngesellschaft in den USA einen unerwarteten Anstieg.

Der Nettogewinn belief sich auf 291 Mio. Dollar bzw. 76 Cents pro Aktie, nach 285 Mio. Dollar bzw. 71 Cents pro Aktie im Vorjahr. Der Umsatz erhöhte sich von 2,25 Mrd. Dollar auf 2,50 Mrd. Dollar.

Analysten waren im Vorfeld von einem Gewinn von 78 Cents (Anzeige)

pro Aktie und einem Umsatz von 2,35 Mrd. Dollar ausgegangen. Für das laufende zweite Quartal 2008 sehen sie ein EPS von 1,06 Dollar bei Erlösen von 2,50 Mrd. Dollar.

Die Aktie von Norfolk Southern schloss heute an der NYSE bei 61,14 Dollar. Nachbörslich verliert der Titel 3,42 Prozent auf 59,05 Dollar. (22.04.2008/ac/n/a)
