Wenn man mit Börsianern über Technologie und Emerging Markets spricht, dann wird es im Saal häufig ganz schnell ganz still, erzählt Michler. Die besser informierten Investoren bringen noch die indische IT-Outsourcing-Branche bzw. den chinesischen Internet-Sektor ein. Aber das war es dann. Dabei ist eines der innovativsten Technologieländer der Erde ein Emerging Market: Israel ist neben den USA und Japan eines der führenden Hochtechnologieländer der Welt.

Nur weiß das kaum jemand, da Investoren Israel aufgrund der geopolitischen Unsicherheiten nicht auf dem Börsenradar haben. Neben der angespannten Sicherheitslage in Israel – einige spannende Hightech-Stories kommen deshalb aus diesem Bereich – hat Israel noch ein ganz anderes Problem: Wasserknappheit. Deshalb haben wir uns in dieser Ausgabe für das weitgehend unbekannte israelische Unternehmen Amiad Filtration Systems entschieden.



Israelischer Spezialist für Wasseraufbereitung

Amiad ist im Boommarkt Wasser tätig. Wasser gilt als einer der Megatrends der kommenden Jahrzehnte. Das bereits 1962 gegründete Unternehmen ist im Bereich der Wasserklärung tätig und entwickelt spezielle Filtersysteme für Industrie und Landwirtschaft sowie für die Wasserlagerung. Die Israelis sind also schon seit über 40 Jahren in der Wasseraufbereitung tätig. Dabei entwickelt man sowohl manuell betriebene, halbautomatische als auch vollautomatische Filtersysteme, die zum Beispiel im Wasserkreislauf einer Industrieanlage zwischengeschaltet werden. Die Kunden kommen sowohl aus der Privatwirtschaft als auch aus Behörden und Gemeinden.

Natürlich ist die Wassersituation im Nahen Osten sehr angespannt und fraglos ein interessanter Markt. Aber was Amiad wirklich spannend macht, ist die globale Ausrichtung des israelischen Wasserfilter-Spezialisten. Das Unternehmen ist weltweit aufgestellt und in über 70 Ländern aktiv. Die Firmensitze reichen von Kalifornien über Uruguay und Hamburg bis Singapur, China und Australien. Über 90% der Umsätze macht Amiad außerhalb des israelischen Heimatmarktes.

Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Werten ist der Aktienkurs noch nicht davongelaufen. Das hat 2 Gründe: Zum einen hat die Wasserbranche den Gesamtmarkt underperformt. Der Grund ist ziemlich einfach – und völlig falsch: Trotz der brennenden Aktualität der Wasserproblematik und solider Unternehmensentwicklungen vieler Wasserfirmen wird Wasser bei der Masse der Anleger immer noch als sehr langfristiger Trend wahrgenommen. Und in den vergangenen Monaten konnte man mit China-Aktien oder Rohstoffen einfach schneller mehr Geld verdienen.

Umsatz und Gewinn im 1. Halbjahr 2007 stark gestiegen

Dieser kurzsichtige Ansatz ist für Trendinvestoren natürlich ein gefundenes Fressen. Denn es bietet günstige Einstiegskurse in Unternehmen aus Megatrends, die in den nächsten Dekaden bedeutende Wachstumsentwicklungen aufweisen werden. Neben diesem Branchenproblem hat Amiad allerdings auch ein unternehmensspezifisches Problem: Die Umsatzentwicklung in 2006 war mit einem Anstieg von 4% alles andere als dynamisch. Im Vergleich zu rasant wachsenden Firmen, zum Beispiel aus dem Infrastrukturbereich, ist das wenig. Hintergrund war jedoch ein ganz normaler Produktzyklus, so Michler. Der Vertrieb von neuartigen automatisierten Wasserfiltersystemen hat erst im 4. Quartal 2006 richtig begonnen und lief in China, Russland und Indien sehr erfolgreich an. Diese Produkteinführung führte dazu, dass Kauforders in 2006 zurückgehalten wurden.

Das ändert sich jedoch gerade. Denn die Zahlen für das 1. Halbjahr 2007 waren sehr gut und weisen ein starkes Wachstum auf. So stieg der Umsatz in den ersten 6 Monaten 2007 um 24,5% von 22,0 Mio. US$ im Vorjahreszeitraum auf jetzt 27,4 Mio. US$. Der operative Gewinn (also der Gewinn aus der Geschäftstätigkeit ohne Sondereffekte wie Steuerrückzahlungen oder Gewinne aus Finanzgeschäften) konnte sogar um satte 44,5% von 2,5 Mio. US$ auf jetzt 3,7 Mio. US$ gesteigert werden. Starkes Wachstum verzeichnete Amiad vor allem in den USA, die im Bereich Wasserinfrastruktur gewaltige Defizite haben, sowie in Europa und in Australien. Hier liegt auch der Hebel für das zukünftige Wachstum: Amiad hat als israelisches Unternehmen die typische Nähe zu den USA und treibt seine Expansion in die Emerging Markets nun erst richtig voran. So sind die Israelis im 1. Halbjahr 2007 aggressiv in den osteuropäischen Markt in Russland, der Ukraine und Kasachstan eingestiegen.

Aktie ist mit einem KGV von rund 11 sehr günstig bewertet

Durch die Underperformance der Aktie (der Wert ist in den letzten 2 Jahren auf Euro-Basis de facto seitwärts gelaufen) hat der Wert nun inzwischen eine hoch attraktive Bewertung erreicht. So liegt das KGV für 2008 nur bei rund 11. Im 1. Halbjahr 2007 konnte Amiad den Nettogewinn aber um 86,5% steigern (das beinhaltete jedoch Einmalerträge).

Michler rechnet konservativ und setzt für das Gesamtjahr „nur“ ein Gewinnwachstum von 46,7% an. Doch selbst dann ist die Aktie mit einem PEG von 0,28 für Michler völlig unterbewertet. Das bestätige sich auch bei einem Blick auf das Kurs-Buchwert-Verhältnis, dass für 2007 mit 0,69 unterirdisch billig sei. Selbst wenn man für 2008 ganz konservativ eine Verlangsamung des Gewinns auf 27,3% ansetzen, so bleibe der Wert mit einem aktuellen KGV von 11 für 2008 immer noch gnadenlos günstig.

Amiad sees FY sales ahead of market expectations, strong profit growth
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Amiad Filtration Systems Ltd (News) said it expects its full-year revenues to come in ahead of market expectations and that it has entered 2008 with a substantially higher backlog than a year earlier.

The maker of water filters expects to report strong growth in profits and a 27 pct increase in full-year revenues to above 56 mln usd.

In a trading update, Amiad said it saw growth in all product lines including its new line of automatic microfibre filters in 2007 and that it is well positioned to capitalise on the rising demand for clean water.

It added, however, that the continued rise in raw material costs and increasing weakness of the US dollar are putting pressures on its margins and financial expenses.

Hallo, ich war vor Jahren eine Weile in dem Kibbutz, der die Filter produziert und denen die Firma immer noch zu 51% gehört. Damals haben wir die Plastikformen mit Spritzgussmaschinen hergestellt und die Formen zu Filtern für Irrigation Pipes zusammengebastelt. Habe eine Reihe guter Erinnerungen an die Zeit, und daß die seit einer Weile an der Börse sind, freut mich riesig, auch daß Amiad einen guten Weg gemacht hat. Ich werde in diesem Jahr auf jeden Fall mal wieder hinfahren und schauen, wie es heute dort aussieht.

Amiad Filtration FY pretax profit up; says margins hit by weak dollar
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Amiad Filtration Systems Ltd (LSE: AFS.L - news) reported a rise of more than 50 pct in its full-year pretax profit helped by a 29 pct jump in its sales for the period.

The maker of water filters, however, said its margins continue to be impacted by a weak dollar as well as higher raw material prices and added that it is entering the first quarter with a robust order book.

The company posted a pretax profit of 5.9 mln usd for the year to Dec 31, 2007, from 3.73 mln usd earlier with revenues up to 56.95 mln usd from 44.08 mln usd. Earnings per share rose to 24.1 cents, up from 15.0 cents a year ago.

Amiad Filtration Systems declared a final dividend of 4.8 cents a share taking the final dividend payout for 2007 to 7.8 cents, up from 6.855 cents the previous year.

Israelische Hi-Tech-Firmen in der Wasserbranche erobern den Weltmarkt

Nach Jahrzehnten der Entwicklung im Bereich Wassertechnologie mit dem Ziel, „die Wüste zum Blühen zu bringen“, konzentriert sich Israel nun darauf, seine Produkte im Ausland zu verkaufen. Hierzu gehören ultraviolette Lichttechnologie zur Reinigung von Wasser und ein Recycling-System, das mit Hilfe von Bakterien organischen Müll beseitigt.
Daniel Wild, ein ranghoher Analyst der Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) Gruppe –eine unabhängige Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft für Sustainability Investments mit Hauptsitz in Zürich-, sagt, dass die israelische Technologie in den beiden Hauptbereichen Bewässerung und Entsalzung führend sei, weil Israel eines der ersten Länder war, die diesbezüglich effiziente Technologien entwickelt haben.
Israel besteht zu etwa Zweidritteln aus Wüste. Diese Tatsache spornte das Land an, eines der Weltführer im Bereich Wasserrecycling zu werden. Nach Informationen von Oded Distell vom Industrie- und Handelsministerium werden in Israel 75% des Abwassers wieder genutzt, und zwar hauptsächlich in der Landwirtschaft.
Bald nachdem Israels erster Premierminister David Ben Gurion in den 1950er Jahren erklärt hatte, dass die Zukunft des jüdischen Staates von der Fähigkeit, „die Wüste zum Blühen zu bringen“, abhänge, tat sich Ingenieur Simcha Blass gemeinsam mit einem Kibbutz zusammen und gründete die Firma Netafim, die der Welt ein Wassersparsystem, das als Tröpfchenbewässerung bekannt wurde, vorstellte.
Heute hat Netafim einen Jahresumsatz von mehr als 450 Millionen Dollar, der größtenteils durch Exporte erzeugt wird. Eines der neusten Produkte der Firma ist ein drahtloses System zur Überwachung von Feldfrüchten, das unterirdische Sensoren und Funk benutzt, um jedem Teil des Feldes die richtige Menge an Wasser zukommen zu lassen.

Ultraviolettes Licht
In einer Fabrik außerhalb Jerusalems testen Ingenieure der privaten Technologiefirma Atlantium ihre neueste Serie von UV-Wasserreinigern. Ihr Produkt, das aus einem großen Quarzrohr besteht, das an ein Wasserleitungssystem angeschlossen werden kann, kann bis zu 200 Kubikmeter Wasser in einer Stunde reinigen.
Die Strahlen des UV-Lichtes lassen Bakterien im Wasser „inaktiv“ werden, so dass sie sich nicht vermehren und Infektionen verursachen können. Dana Cogan, Marketingdirektorin von Atlantium, erklärt, dass durch die UV-Reinigung chemische Nebenprodukte, wie z. B. die Verwendung von Chlor, vermieden werden könnten und dass sie billiger und einfacher sei als das Erhitzen von Wasser.

Bakterien, die Abwasser „fressen“
Die israelische Firma Aqwise sagt, ihre biologisch basierte Lösung, Bakterien zu züchten, die organischen Müll „fressen“, könne sich mit anderen Technologien messen.
Die Firma entwarf ein Wasserstrahlsystem, das „Biomasse-Träger“ in Tausenden von Gallonen Abwasser in Umlauf bringt. Die Träger sind kleine Plastikringe mit großer Oberfläche, die von einer Vielzahl von natürlich vorkommenden Bakterien bedeckt ist. Diese Bakterien „fressen“ das organische Material im Abwasser. Millionen solcher Ringe werden in einem Prozess, der sich Attached Growth Airlift Reactor (AGAR) nennt, durch das Abwasser getrieben, wobei die Bakterien die schädlichen Bestandteile beseitigen. Das System wurde bereits von zahlreichen Betrieben weltweit gekauft und Siemens Water Technologies in Nordamerika hat es lizensiert.

jeder Aquariumbesitzer hat doch schon so ein Teil.

In Indien sind Aqua Guards einer schwedischen Firma im Einsatz,
die Millionenfach Trinkwasser aufbereiten.

Das ist doch alles schon seit Jahrzehnten bekannt und wird genutzt.

Bakterien die Abwasser fressen, auch das passiert doch in jeder Kläranlage und Septiktank.

Amiad sees H1 net profit, revenue ahead of market expectations
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Amiad Filtration Systems Ltd. (News) said it expects its first-half net profit to exceed market expectations and be higher than for the same period of 2007.

The company also said its first-half revenue growth is expected to be well ahead of market expectations, with an increase of over 40 percent to around $39 million.

The water filters and filtration systems company said trading in the six months to June 30 was significantly higher than that in the first half of 2007.

The company had reported that it began 2008 with a backlog substantially higher than it did at the corresponding time in 2007 as the market for its products continued to expand with greater global investments in water infrastructure.

This positive trend has continued in the first half of 2008, Amiad added.

Amiad Filtration sees continued growth, boosts H1 pretax profit to $5.38 mln
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Amiad Filtration Systems Ltd., (News) a producer and global supplier of water filters and filtration systems for the industrial, municipal and irrigation markets, said it sees continued growth in the second half of 2008 from that a year earlier and 'significant' growth in the full year 2008 from that in 2007.

The company said in a statement announcing its results for the six months to June that the socio-economic rise of developing countries, greater demands on water supplies in the West and marketing efforts had boosted Amiad's global growth and it sees the trend continuing.

Amiad said it entered the second half of 2008 with a backlog higher than that a year earlier and higher than at the start of the current year.

For the first half to June it posted pretax profit of $5.38 million against $3.66 million a year earlier, on revenues of $39.5 million in the six months to June against $27.5 million.

The company said it declared an interim dividend of 3.5 U.S. cents (gross) per share against 3 cents a year earlier.

Arik Dayan promoted to Chief Executive Officer




The Board of Amiad, a producer and global supplier of automated water filters and filtration systems for the industrial, municipal and irrigation markets, announces that Rami Treger has stepped down from his post as Chief Executive Officer ('CEO') and Board member, with immediate effect, in order to pursue his other business interests. The Board also announces that Arik Dayan, currently the Deputy CEO and Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has been promoted to the position of CEO. It is intended that Mr Dayan will be nominated as a Director of the Company at the Annual General Meeting (the 'AGM') of the Company currently scheduled to be held in July 2009.




Rami Treger will continue as an employee of the Company and will assist Arik Dayan in his new role in order to ensure a smooth and orderly handover.



Mr Dayan takes over the role as CEO having held various senior positions at the Company since joining it in 1997 as the General Manager of FCS, Amiad's Singapore subsidiary. These positions included being appointed as International Business Development Executive in September 2003 and as VP of Sales and Marketing in March 2004. Mr Dayan was part of the senior executive team that met with investors at the time of the Company's IPO in December 2005. In mid 2007, he became the Deputy CEO and Senior VP of Sales and Marketing. Immediately prior to joining Amiad, Mr Dayan was the Director of Sales and Marketing at Epilady. Mr Dayan holds a BA in Economics and Business Administration.




Amiad will announce its full year results for the year ended 31 December 2008 on 2 April 2009. The Company expects to report revenues for the full year 2008 to have increased by at least 26% over the previous year.

Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting
Further to the Company’s announcement of 20 January 2010, the Board of Amiad announces that an Extraordinary General Meeting (“EGM”) will be held at 9am GMT on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at the offices of Speechly Bircham LLP, 6 New Street Square, London, EC4A 3LX, England.
The business to be conducted at the EGM will be to consider and, if thought fit, pass resolutions:
 to approve the engagement of the Company in an agreement for the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of, and ownership rights in, Arkal Filtration Systems Cooperative Agricultural Society Ltd. (“Arkal”)
 to increase the authorised share capital of the Company by NIS 1,500,000 so that, following such increase, the authorized share capital of the Company shall be NIS 11,500,000 divided into 23,000,000 ordinary shares of 0.5 NIS each
Formal notice of the EGM, with forms of proxy and direction, has been posted to shareholders and holders of depository interests.
Copies of the Circular to shareholders and to holders of depository interests are available from the Company’s website.
In addition to the approval of the Company’s shareholders, the completion of the acquisition is subject, inter alia, to the following:
(a) the approval of Beit Zera’s creditor banks and any other creditors of Kibbutz Beit Zera to the execution of the transaction, the final and complete release of Arkal from any and all obligations that secure any debt or obligation of Beit Zera or any of its affiliates (except Arkal and its subsidiaries), the removal of all charges or any other assurance pertaining to the rights in Arkal and/or assets of Arkal that secured the guarantees and indemnification obligations or any other obligations as mentioned above (excluding charges to guarantee the debts of Arkal itself) and an overall arrangement of Beit Zera debt with the abovementioned creditors; and
(b) the approval of the Israeli Restrictive Trade Authority to execute the transaction according to its terms.
A further announcement regarding the expected timing of completion of the acquisition will be made following the EGM.

Result of Extraordinary General Meeting
The Board of Amiad announces that, at the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company held earlier today, all resolutions were duly passed.
The Company will issue its full year 2009 results on 15 April 2010. At that time, it expects to provide an update on the timing of the completion of the Arkal acquisition, which is progressing towards satisfaction of the remaining conditions.

LONDON (SHARECAST) - Water filters and filtration systems firm Amiad has warned that first half revenues and profits are likely to miss forecasts as it struggles to negotiate the economic downturn.
The company, which first flagged difficulties at its 2009 results in April, said its irrigation business and industrial projects in the US had been hardest hit.

Revenue for the first six months of 2010 is now thought to be about $37m, including $6m from the Arkal acquisition, little changed from a year ago.

But the group expects trading in the second half will improve and that Arkal will provide a further boost to the full-year numbers.

Panmure Gordon thinks the core Amiad business is likely to deliver $1m in net profit for the period to 30 June, down from $3.5m in 2009.

“With a higher presence of irrigation in the mix and with some pricing pressure the gross margin has fallen to 42% from a long term range of 45-48%,” says the broker, which has placed its estimates and target price under review ahead of a meeting with the company.

Interim results are scheduled for early September.
