Strike Resource pays USD 19 million for iron ore and coal projects

Strike Resource Limited is banking on the high iron ore and coal prices to feed the development of its flagship Peru project as it signs a USD 19 million scrip deal to reacquire two projects from Perth based Orion Equities Limited.

Strike Resource said that it will issue a total of 9.5 million shares to Orion for regain full ownership of the Palsens East iron ore project in Western Australia and the Berau coal project in Indonesia. Previously, Strike held a 75% interest in Paulsens East and a 30% interest in Berau.

Mr John Stephenson chairman of Strike Resource said that development of Paulsens East and Berau will be accelerated to generate cash flow for the development of the Apurimac iron ore project in Peru. He added that "By reacquiring full ownership of the Berau thermal coal and the Paulsen's East direct shipping iron ore projects, the company has significantly bolstered its near term revenue generating potential and its ability to fund its flagship Apurimac Project in Peru."

Strike is targeting a production start up date for both Paulsens East in the second half of 2009 with a 1 million tonnes per tonne to 1.5 million tonnes per tonne operation. Strike is also targeting a 2009 production start date for Berau with a 1.5 million tonnes per tonne initial operation before ramping up to 2 million tonnes per tonne.

Cameco halts repairs at Cigar Lake after water inflow accelerates
By: Liezel Hill - Published on 13th August 2008

The world's biggest uranium miner, Canada's Cameco, has temporarily halted remediation work at the number one shaft at the Cigar Lake project, in Saskatchewan, after an increase in the water flowing into the mine.

Shares in the company fell 6,34% on Wednesday morning, to C$31,89 a share by 11:29 in Toronto.

Cameco received approval to start dewatering the mine in June, after succesfully testing an underground seal.

The firm wants to get the water out so that it can assess the underground damage at Cigar Lake, which was initially expected to have begun production as early as last year, before a rock fall caused a flood in October 2006, delaying construction.

The shaft had been pumped down to 430 m below surface, when an increase in the rate of water inflows was reported on Tuesday morning, and pumping was suspended a few hours later.

Water was flowing into the shaft at 600 m3/h, the company said.

For now, Cameco plans to allow the water level in the shaft to rise to about 100 m below surface, which will allow it to gather data and decide what the next steps should be.

The company is working to determine the source of the inflow, and what implications it has for the remediation plan.

Cameco CEO Jerry Grandey said in May that production could begin in 2011 "at the earliest" from Cigar Lake, which contains proven and probable reserves of more than 226,3-million pounds of uranium.

Cameco, which is the operator of the project, owns 50% of Cigar Lake, while Paris-based Areva owns 37%, Idemitsu Canada Resources holds 8% and Tepco Resources owns 5%.

      Maybach vom 12.08.08:

Oilsands Quest Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the exploration and development of oil sands deposits in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta. The company, formerly known as CanWest Petroleum Corporation, was founded in 1998 and is based in Calgary, Canada.

      Company Analysis:

Oilsands Quest shares are trading lower following the recent change of President and COO of the company in July. The new resource estimates for its Axe Lake Discovery have come out at the end of June, pushing shares soaring. 1.7 billion barrels of discovered bitumen are estimated in place, and the production volumne could reach 30,000 barrels per day; the results proved the extraordinary scale of resource of this property. Besides, there emerged another discovery named Raven Ridge, with 0.6 billion barrels of oil in place.

It's clear that Oilsands Quest holds a significant asset base. For the next twelve months, the company strives to establish a commercial development plan for the Axe Lake Discovery. It has a strong cash position - $90 million in cash on hands as of June 16, 2008.

      Analyst Opinion:

We are maintaining our bullish opinion on the shares.
