China Molybdenum plans to issue 542 mln A shares in Shanghai

Dec. 14, 2010 (China Knowledge) - China Molybdenum Co<3993>, the nation's biggest molybdenum producer, has announced that it plans to issue 542 million A shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The Hong Kong-listed company said the size and pricing of the proposed A-share listing will be determined based on China's stock market.

China Molybdenum said it will use proceeds from the listing to fund projects that will cost about RMB 3.79 billion in total, including the purchase of a 50% stake in Xuzhou Huanyu Molybdenum Co, the takeover of exploration rights in a molybdenum mine in East Gobi in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

China Molybdenum's net profit, computing by International Accounting Standards, surged 112.9% year on year to RMB 419 million in the first half of this year, and its basic earnings per share stood at 8.6 RMB cents.

The company in August announced plans to raise up to RMB 4 billion in corporate bonds.

China Scrambles to Secure Molybdenum Resources
Molybdenum Prices May Rise in 2011 as China Cuts Exports
      By Luke Burgess
      Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

      The race is on...

World leaders are scrambling to gain control of global molybdenum assets on speculation that China will cut exports.

China is the world's largest producer of molybdenum, supplying over a third of global supplies. But growing domestic demand may prompt the Chinese government to restrict exports...

This may cause the price of molybdenum to rise significantly in 2011, and lift share prices of primary producers.

China moves to secure molybdenum resources

China has been a net buyer of molybdenum for the year, importing over 5.5 million pounds of the strategic metal used to harden steel.

China produced about 160 million pounds of molybdenum in 2009. This year, analysts expect Chinese molybdenum to increase nearly 20% to 190 million pounds.
Despite being the world's largest supplier, China may be forced to continue importing molybdenum in 2011.

The country's recent economic stimulus package — which focuses on infrastructure — will continue to require a large supply of molybdenum for high-strength steel to be used in bridges, power plants, and pipelines.

This will continue to have a significant impact on global molybdenum supplies. And China has already recognized the importance of securing molybdenum resources...

Last month, the Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources reported it was planning to set up strategic reserves for 10 metals — including molybdenum and rare earth metals.

The Chinese government recently showed its commitment to helping the domestic market secure molybdenum supplies. Just a few months ago, the gov't accelerated a financing approval for Hanlong Investments, a privately-owned Chinese company, to fund the development of General Moly's (AMEX: GMO) Mt. Hope project.

      General Moly (AMEX: GMO)

Hanlong Investments will purchase 25% of General Moly for $80 million and procure a $665 million loan from a Chinese bank. The total funding from the Hanlong transaction is anticipated to fund all remaining capital requirements for Mt. Hope, currently the largest and highest-grade primary molybdenum project in development.

Primary producers like General Moly and Thompson Creek Metals (TSX: TCM) will receive a premium because molybdenum is usually a byproduct of copper production, which is usually fixed.

      Thomson Creek Metals (TSX: TCM)

The price of molybdenum has increased 12% over the past four months, with molybdenum oxide currently trading on the London Metals Exchange for $32,500 per tonne — or $14.75 per pound.

Molybdenum prices should remain strong in 2011 if Chinese demand remains robust; analysts believe prices could reach as high as $23-$24 per pound next year .

China has imposed mining quotas in the past and may curb exports again in 2011, which could greatly affect prices.

Molybdenum miners have already made significant gains due to supply concerns globally...

And primary molybdenum miners, like General Moly and Thomson Creek, may see continued growth for their assets in 2011 as demand accelerates.

China Molybdenum buys mine rights for USD 157 million
Tuesday, 16 Nov 2010Bloomberg reported that China Molybdenum Co, the nation second biggest producer agreed to buy exploration rights for a mine in Xinjiang province for CNY 1.04 billion.

According to a statement to the Hong Kong exchange, the rights will be transferred from the company No 2 Geological Institution unit. The company can explore an area of 16.77 square kilometers around a mine in East Gobi, Hami.

China last month kept next year export quota unchanged for molybdenum, which is used to toughen steel in alloys. The government may limit the metal mining next year by classifying it as a national mining resource, the China Securities Journal reported last month.

According to the statement, the estimated resource at the molybdenum mine in Xinjiang is 350 million metric tons of ore, with 396,100 tons of metal content. China Molybdenum has formed a joint venture to develop the mine.

      [Date:11-15-2010] Source: Infocast News

China Molybdenum (HKG:3993) (CMOC) announced that its non-wholly-owned subsidiary, Xinjiang Luomu, entered into an exploration rights transfer agreement with No.2 Geological Institution (the Vendor) and other parties, pursuant to which the Vendor agreed to sell to Xinjiang Luomu, exploration rights in relation to a molybdenum mine located in East Gobi Hami, Xinjiang, the PRC at a consideration of RMB1.036 billion.

Pursuant to the transfer agreement, CMOC and Xinyuan Mining have agreed to increase the registered capital of Xinjiang Luomu from RMB100 million to RMB1.4 billion, of which CMOC shall contribute RMB0.91 billion and Xinyuan Mining shall contribute RMB0.39 billion, which will be set off against the consideration. After the set-off, Xinjiang Luomu shall pay the Vendor RMB0.646 billion.

The exploration rights' estimated resources are 350 mt of molybdenum ore. Molybdenum metal contained: 0.3961 mt with the average grade of 0.113%, among which the molybdenum metal contained of (332) accounts for 0.2069 mt with the average grade of 0.125%.
