Cent.!

We are a green Australian public company established to commercialise an exciting breakthrough in semiconductor technology.

Evolved from more than 15 years research at Sydney’s Macquarie University, BluGlass has invented a process using Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (RPCVD) to grow semiconductor materials such as gallium nitride (GaN), crucial to the production of high efficiency devices including next generation lighting technology Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) with significant low cost potential.

With the commissioning of our new state-of-the-art facilities, BluGlass seeks to demonstrate the commercial capability of the RPCVD technology to semi-conductor manufacturers with the aim of licensing its technology and process along with suppling RPCVD deposition equipment.

      *Primary Activity*

      Developer of LED Manufacturing Technology

      *Company Background*
At the core of our company is a new technology for producing semiconductors developed by the Chief Technology Officer, Dr Scott Butcher and his BluGlass team that originally came from Sydney's Macquarie University.

By using our technology and approach to depositing gallium nitride (GaN), LED manufacturers can produce less costly light emitting diodes (LEDs) in a more environmentally sensitive way.

BluGlass has taken the first steps to commercialise this technology for a rapidly growing world market for LED devices.

To secure a share of this market, BluGlass has built a strong technical and commercial team and has been seeking out potential partners and customers.

In October 2006 BluGlass signed an important Joint Development Agreement with St Gobain, a French based multinational, which is an expert substrate supplier to the development of the BluGlass technology.

The plan is to refine our GaN process in the new BluGlass research reactor and in a commercial-scale demonstration reactor currently under construction in Ireland.

In early 2008, BluGlass will have a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in which to develop and showcase our technology.

Evolved from more than 15 years of low temperature thin film growth research at Sydney’s Macquarie University, the RPCVD process has been specifically developed for the low temperature growth of nitride based thin films such as InN, GaN, AlN, AlGaN and InGaN. With a growth temperature of between 500 - 700℃ this process is compatible with the growth of thin films on buffered glass substrates in addition to sapphire or silicon. It has been developed without the need for ammonia (NH3) and as a result is friendlier to the environment and safer to operate.

      RPCVD Design Principle
The nitrogen precursor for growth is generated in a plasma, remote from the substrate which minimises its exposure to the aggressive environment generated by the plasma, in particular etching effects from highly energetic ionic nitrogen species.

Downstream of the plasma generation zone, the metal organics enter the deposition chamber where they undergo thermal decomposition as the gas flow approaches the heated substrate surface.

In the absence of NH3 a plasma source generates the active nitrogen species for growth with layer thickness deviation over a 4 inch substrate of less than 3%.

The RPCVD process is suited to a range of applications such as:
      - Optoelectronic devices
      - Transistor devices
      - Photodiodes
      - Thin film solar cells

BluGlass staff are world leaders in the physics of low temperature thin film growth.

BluGlass company announced the potential to expand the company to develop cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing technology, especially solar energy industry, such as use of remote plasma chemical vapor deposition technology, such as the development of indium gallium nitride (InGaN) of the III group nitride thin film technology, so that The solar energy industry has become the focus of attention.

Although there are many materials can be used in the manufacture of solar cells, III nitride family there are many incomparable advantages, it will make solar cells more exciting prospect.

The world today there are many new materials to visible light from infrared to ultraviolet radiation to the entire spectrum into electricity. BluGlass company is specializing in research in the field, especially in ethnic III nitride film, indium gallium nitride (InGaN), nitride solar cells and so on. Once successful, the service life of such cells will be longer and more expensive, relatively speaking, more importantly, easier to improve the conversion efficiency of the battery.

Conversion efficiency because of indium gallium nitride direct band gap will be very adjustable. This feature can capture a greater extent in the solar spectrum more energy, which can produce more power. This is because if the photon energy exceeds the band gap semiconductor, the photon is even more prone to capture by semiconductor materials.

Australia's Bluglass is working on technology to get silicon solar effeciency up towards the 50% level in optimal sunlight conditions.

      *****************************************************************

Auführlicher Artikel über die Aktivitäten von Bluglass:

Bluglass plans to explore nitride solar cells

6 May 2009 - BluGlass Limited, a green technology company, today announced it intends to expand the market potential of its breakthrough semiconductor manufacturing technology, Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (RPCVD) in the solar industry bringing group III nitride thin films, such as indium gallium nitride (InGaN), into the solar spotlight.

Although there are many materials from which solar cells can be developed, group III nitride semiconductors have many advantages over current materials making them an exciting prospect for new solar cell applications. There is an emerging material family with the potential to convert almost the full spectrum of sunlight from the infrared, visible and ultraviolet radiation to electrical current.

This material family is BluGlass area of expertise - group III nitrides, specifically the indium gallium nitride (InGaN) alloy. InGaN solar cells, if successful, promise to be long lasting, relatively inexpensive and importantly, the most efficient ever created. The potential comes from the fact that InGaN has a direct band gap with wide tunability.

These properties allow more energy from the solar spectrum to be captured efficiently into the cell and converted to power. This is because a photon can only be efficiently absorbed into the semiconductor material if the photon energy is higher than the band gap of the semiconductor. To date, solar cells have been capable of a maximum efficiency of 41.1% and only in the most advanced laboratory technologies.

Most commercial solar cells however are retailed at efficiencies between 5- 28%. This is due to the fact that commonly used materials either have a high or indirect band gap limiting their potential. Research has stated that InGaN solar cells could produce efficiencies of more than 50%, which would be the biggest breakthrough in solar cell efficiency since its inception.

BluGlass Limited is an Australian company developing and commercialising a novel process called Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (RPCVD) for the production of semiconductor thin films, such as gallium nitride (GaN) and indium gallium nitride (InGaN) for the production of light emitting diodes (LEDs). RPCVD has many advantages over current commercial processes; it is more environmentally sensitive and has significant low cost potential. More importantly, being a low temperature process, it is highly suitable for the growth of InGaN.

A low temperature process, when it comes to growing InGaN is extremely important, as during the growth process the alloy s fragile bonds crack at high temperature leading to poor quality material. A low temperature process would allow indium rich, InGaN layers (the key component) to be grown said CEO Giles Bourne today. Currently the standard nitride growth process, called Metal Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD), is reliant on extreme temperatures of over 1000ºC to achieve the active nitrogen species.

BluGlass process extracts the active nitrogen direct from a nitrogen plasma source which allows low temperature growth to be achieved. InGaN also has superior resistance to energy radiation and high temperature tolerance. This would allow nitride solar cells to maintain high performance under extreme conditions including space applications such as powering satellites and space probes.

Furthermore, the inherent scalability of the RPCVD process, which has been demonstrated growing gallium nitride for LED applications is another potential benefit of our process over current manufacturing methods. BluGlass now intends to explore RPCVD as a process for the development of thin film InGaN for the production of a high efficiency solar cell continues Mr. Bourne.

BluGlass already has a depth of experience growing GaN and InGaN using RPCVD. Our process evolved out of research at Macquarie University, where indium nitride growth was a core part of the program. Following recent research on InGaN, BluGlass intends to develop a prototype high efficiency solar cell for industrial testing. We have already designed a solar cell structure that has been manufactured using the MOCVD process and turned into a device at BluGlass.

This cell will be used as a benchmark for subsequent development work carried out on the RPCVD process. While solar applications are a natural progression for BluGlass as the RPCVD technology is well suited to these alternative applications, our LED business still remains our primary focus and we look forward to updating you on progress soon finished Mr. Bourne.

About BluGlass: BluGlass Limited is an Australian Green Technology company developed to commercialise a breakthrough in the Semiconductor Industry. BluGlass has invented a new process using Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (RPCVD) to grow semiconductor materials such as gallium nitride (GaN), crucial to the production of high efficiency devices such as next generation lighting technology, light emitting diodes (LEDs), at a fraction of the current cost. BluGlass is now exploring the processes viability in photovoltaic (solar) applications.

The BluGlass process is a low temperature, low cost technology with inherent scalability.

Hier einig technische Angaben, was für BLG wichtig ist:

Gallium nitride (GaN) is a very hard material commonly used in bright LEDs since the 1990s.

The compound is a direct-bandgap semiconductor material of wurtzite crystal structure, with a wide (3.4 eV) band gap, used in optoelectronic, high-power and high-frequency devices. It is a binary group III/group V direct bandgap semiconductor. Its sensitivity to ionizing radiation is low (like other group III nitrides), making it a suitable material for solar cell arrays for satellites. Because GaN transistors can operate at much hotter temperatures and work at much higher voltages than GaAs transistors, they make ideal power amplifiers at microwave frequencies.

BluGlass wins $4.96 million government backing for solar cell project

Australian semiconductor innovator BluGlass Limited today announced that the company has been awarded
$4.96 million of Commonwealth Government funding to assist with the development and commercialisation of
its high efficiency thin-film solar cell technology.

“The Government backing is a major vote of confidence in BluGlass’s technology. This will see Australian
technology return to the forefront of solar innovation and adoption as Australia leads the way on climate
change mitigation,” said BluGlass CEO Giles Bourne today.
The funding is being executed between BluGlass and AusIndustry, which will provide the cash over 33
months on the basis that BluGlass matches the grant with its own expenditure.

The ‘High-Efficiency Thin-Film Solar Cell’ project aims to develop a third generation photovoltaic technology
for manufacturing high efficiency solar cells based on the compound semiconductor material, indium-gallium
      nitride (InGaN).

The project aims to produce technically advanced cells with greater efficiencies than any current solar cell at
      commercially competitive costs.

The project sets out to reduce the cost of harnessing solar energy that will result in more widespread
adoption of solar technology, particularly by utilities as solar becomes more cost competitive relative to other
renewable technologies and traditional non-renewable resources.
BluGlass has secured the funding under Climate Ready Program which is one of the three elements of the
$240 million Clean Business Australia initiative.

The Climate Ready program ($75m over 4 years) is a competitive grants program providing grants from
$50,000 up to $5m on a matching funding basis to support research and development, proof-of-concept and
early-stage commercialisation activities to develop solutions to climate change challenges.
Following the successful capital raising in July, this grant further enhances BluGlass’ ability to continue with
      its research and commercialisation program.

BluGlass & SPTS JV To Establish R&D RPCVD Site In UK
      Apr 07, 2011
The JV says feedback from customers indicates that the theoretical performance advantages of RPCVD are now recognised as the core value proposition for the LED industry.

Australian based Bluglass Limited and UK based SPTS have, as part of a Joint Venture (JV), commenced the establishment of a Remote Plasma CVD (RPCVD) research and demonstration site in the UK.

This facility will include the retrofit of a field-proven SPTS CVD production platform to incorporate its RPCVD technology. The JV, focused on the commercialisation of the RPCVD technology for LED production, commenced in October of 2010 and has seen the establishment of a JV team in Silverwater Australia, and now in the UK.

Progress is being made on all fronts with some milestones progressing faster than others. The technology has seen some significant improvements, however due to repair and maintenance issues with the 5th Generation RPCVD tool, leading to machine downtime, there has been some delay in achieving single crystal material at the high standard set by the company.

Despite this, progress has been made on this milestone and other improvements such as greater growth rates when compared to previous generations. The JV is still working towards the achievement of quality single crystal material and is very confident in its achievability.

SPTS has also strengthened its involvement in the JV with the commencement of the design of its RPCVD research and demonstration site and machine in the UK.

President of SPTS, William Johnson said “SPTS believes in the RPCVD technology, firmly supporting the commercial potential of our Joint Venture with BluGlass. Having engaged with our LED customers we are encouraged by their validation of the RPCVD value proposition and level of interest in the outcomes of the Joint Venture.”

“Accordingly SPTS have further strengthened our commitment to the JV with the allocation of additional resources, budget and the advanced commencement of activity and research here in the UK,” Johnson added.

Feedback from customers indicates that the theoretical performance advantages of RPCVD are now recognised as the core value proposition for the LED industry. The RPCVD process is increasingly anticipated to be used in conjunction with existing technology, broadening the potential market opportunity.

BluGlass CEO, Giles Bourne added, “We have been extremely fortunate to find such an expert and well connected partner to bring our technology to the market. The progression of our technology since the commencement of the JV has been very encouraging”.

The Joint Venture is geared towards the delivery of single crystal material, a top quality demonstration facility in the UK with access to global customers and to surpass the MOCVD benchmark in material quality in order to deliver RPCVD to the mainstream LED manufacturing market.

BluGlass shares spike on LED technology breakthrough

BluGlass’ (ASX: BLG) technical breakthrough has caught investors’ attention, with the company’s shares jumping 126.4% in intraday trade to $0.12, on volume of 2.5 million shares.

The company has achieved a breakthrough in producing technology that is crucial to the production of high efficiency devices such as Light Emitting Diodes (LED).

Improvements to BluGlass’ proprietary technology, remote plasma chemical vapour deposition, in recent months have led to the production of high quality crystalline gallium nitride (GaN) films at low temperature.

This has the potential to offer advantages in device performance and low cost manufacturing.

The breakthrough has improved the quality and reduced the defect density of the GaN, essential to demonstrating the technology’s commercial potential in the LED equipment market.

BluGlass achieved the improvements by reducing the trace amounts of chemical impurities that are incorporated in GaN films during growth.

One impurity, oxygen, has been brought very close to industry accepted levels, while the other, carbon, is being reduced towards an acceptable level.

Further reductions in these impurities to within industry accepted ranges would allow BluGlass to produce films with properties similar to current commercially produced GaN films while demonstrating improved device efficiency.

Upon achieving these next milestones, BluGlass aims to place a demonstration tool with an industry leading LED manufacturer.

BluGlass hits new heights with LED technology

Thursday, November 22, 2012 by Angela Kean

BluGlass (ASX: BLG) has achieved proof of concept of its Light Emitting Diodes (LED) technology, which is now being produced with industry-equivalent electrical properties, significantly de-risking the technology.

The market reacted positively to today’s news with shares hitting a fresh intra-day high of A$0.29, a 530% increase over the low of $0.046 the company was trading at in mid-April.

The news sparked high volume trade, with around 2.4 million shares changing hands by 2.48pm (AEDT).

BluGlass is now able to use its low temperature Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition technology to produce n-type gallium nitride (GaN) films with low impurities and good electrical properties equivalent to films grown using the industry standard process – MOCVD.

The company is now focusing on improving p-GaN layers with the goal of improving LED device efficiency over current produced devices.

The electrical performance properties were independently measured and verified by IQE in the UK, a global supplier of advanced semiconductor wafer products, and the Australian National University, a leading university in semiconductor physics.

The achievement of electrical properties on par with MOCVD grown n-GaN films has been enabled through the reduction of critical impurities – carbon, oxygen and hydrogen.

While the p-GaN device demonstration is the primary short term commercial focus, BluGlass will also continue research and development into solar and other areas of an LED that can take advantage of the low temperature platform technology.

Updated Valuation Triggers – BluGlass has now completed two of the key valuation triggers identified in June 2010:

the commissioning of the tool and the forming of a strategic partnership with a global player. The two key valuation triggers that
may occur in the next 12-18 months are: forming additional strategic partnerships for LED and/or PV device businesses
and the proving of commercial material quality and device performance through the SPTS JV. Either of these events will
again greatly reduce the risks of BluGlass successfully commercialising the RPCVD technology through equipment and
device products and has the potential to significantly increase its market value. The Joint Venture remains in a position to
emerge as a key CVD equipment manufacturer comparable to Aixtron (NASDAQ: AIXG), a pure play CVD company, which
has a current market capitalisation of over US$3 billion.

The BluGlass technology has the potential to be a major player in the rapidly growing LED and PV markets globally.

Thedevelopments announced by the Company in the last three months have significantly increased the likelihood of this
      potential becoming a reality.

We still believe that each of these ‘Valuation Triggers’ once successfully met, will drive a significant increase in the value of the
RPCVD technology and hence for the company. BluGlass could emerge with a similar business model to Aixtron: also a
university spin-off that commercialised a disruptive technology to grow a company with 2010 forecast revenues of over €650
million. In addition, BluGlass may have significant additional upside through the development of device partnerships that will
      utilise its device IP.

BLUGLASS DELIVERS PROCESS TRANSFER FOR SEREN PHOTONICS
      June 7, 2017

      Key Points

      * BluGlass’ epitaxy (foundry) customer, Seren Photonics (Seren), achieves successful transfer of semi-polar GaN template process

      * BluGlass technology team facilitate the successful transfer of Seren’s GaN template process to the BluGlass MOCVD platform

      * The two companies will continue to work to improve the yield, uniformity and defect density

Australian technology innovator BluGlass Limited (ASX:BLG) has successfully facilitated for its customer, Seren Photonics Limited, a UK developer of semi-polar gallium nitride (GaN) products, the transfer of their GaN template process to the BluGlass MOCVD platform.

BluGlass has been working with Seren since November 2016 (BluGlass Foundry Announcement) with the objective of transferring the process from laboratory scale equipment onto a production relevant MOCVD platform.

Semi-polar gallium nitride (GaN) is an alternative GaN template for the manufacture of LEDs, that overcomes many of the problems associated with the green gap (inability to make efficient green LEDs using MOCVD) and has the potential to also address LED efficiency droop, where the LEDs become gradually less efficient at high power.

Previously, semi-polar GaN was only available in small pieces, cut from a bulk GaN crystal. The Seren technology creates high quality semi-polar GaN on industry standard 2”, 4” and 6” sapphire wafers. BluGlass and Seren are working together to demonstrate commercially viable semi-polar devices including reviewing the potential to use BluGlass’ proprietary RPCVD technology to further improve the performance of green LEDs.

BluGlass will continue to work with its customer Seren, with future development now focusing on refining the manufacturing process with an emphasis on improving uniformity and yield, whilst parallel development will continue to focus on further reduction in defect density.
