AXcess News: POSCO to Invest in Pan American Lithium
      1/13/2010 10:33:32 AM - Market Wire

NEW YORK, NY, Jan 13, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) --

Korean steel producer POSCO looks to invest $5 million in Pan American Lithium Corp. (TSX-V: PL), formerly Etna Resources, Inc. (TSX-V: ETN), in keeping with POSCO CEO Joon-yang Chung saying the steel producer would double investments in non-ferrous metals in 2010.

POSCO CEO Joon-yang Chung said during a signing ceremony in late November for a letter of understanding relating to a magnesium refinery business to be built in Gangwon Province South Korea, "POSCO will be aggressively pursuing projects and future materials like lithium as the new growth engines for the next generation of the company."

The world's No.4 steelmaker said on Monday that it would double spending in 2010.

POSCO will spend 10 trillion won ($8.9 billion) this year on expanding its facilities and on acquisitions, the Korea Economic Daily reported.

Etna Resources (TSX-V: ETN) changed its name to Pan American Lithium Corp. (TSX-V: PL) on Tuesday, announcing terms of a $5 million Letter of Understanding with POSCO at the open of trading in Toronto this morning.

The deal calls for POSCO to complete its due diligence on Etna Resources' lithium properties within 30 days. The funding matches the capital Etna would require to control the lithium recovery and all other mineral production in a Phase One development of an exploitable mineral brine recovery at the Cierro Prieto Geothermal Plant, located 30 km south of Mexicali in Baja California, Mexico. Etna Resources optioned the rights in the last quarter of 2009. Total annual recoverable minerals is estimated at between $450 to $500 million. The brines are recovered through 6 square miles of existing sequential evaporation ponds, concentrating metals values to roughly 11.7 times original salt content.

      About POSCO

POSCO is a privately held Korean conglomerate, first established in 1967, with a focus on the production and sale of steel and steel products, both domestically in Korea and internationally. POSCO is the fourth largest steel producer in the world. In 2008, POSCO produced over 33 million tons of crude steel, had revenues of over CDN$28 billion and net profits of over $CDN4 billion.

      On Behalf of the Board,

      ETNA RESOURCES INC.

...nun , was ist so interessant daran?

      http://www.etnaresources.com/images/SALCO.pdf

..das Umsatzpotential ist also enorm. 200 Mio$ p.a. könnten es werden.

Ebenso interessant ist das Projekt in Mexico:

      http://www.etnaresources.com/images/2010.pdf

      schauts euch mal an;)

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 38.732.045 von German2 am 13.01.10 23:49:40Danke für den Thread. Interessante Aktie.

Escondidas will receive a 33% interest carried through production of lithium products. Should CPI be unable to provide project financing for the lithium production facilities, Escondidas has the opportunity to bring project financing and increase its interest in any lithium project and resultant products.

Upon the exercise of the Option, Etna will acquire the irrevocable right to receive 76% of the issued and outstanding shares of Escondidas held by the Shareholders. In consideration for the Option, Etna has agreed to pay or issue the following on the closing date of the Option Agreement on a pro rata basis: (i) payment of US$125,000 to the Shareholders; (ii) issuance of 10,300,000 common shares in the capital of Etna to the Shareholders; and (iii) issuance of 7,500,000 warrants (each, a "Warrant") to the Shareholders, each Warrant of which entitles the Shareholder to acquire an additional Etna share at the exercise price of CDN$0.50 per share for a period of two years from the closing date. In addition, Etna is obligated to pay to the Shareholders the following sums on a pro rata basis: (i) US$500,000 6 months from the date of closing; (ii) US$500,000 12 months from the date of closing; and (iii) US$750,000 18 months from the date of closing. The proposed acquisition is between arm's length parties. As a result, the proposed acquisition will not require shareholder approval from the shareholders of Etna.

..ich versteh das so.. ETNA erwirbt 76% an Escondidas ...

      ..also 25% + X

Pan American Lithium: Possibly the Best Junior Lithium Play
      By James West
      MidasLetter.com
      Monday, January 18, 2010

Pan American Lithium Corp, (TSX.V:PL) is a brand new opportunity for investors interested in participating in the expected boom in lithium demand. But contrary to many of the junior companies rushing to throw their hats into the ring, Pan American Lithium is both well advanced and diversified in terms of locations and source types for lithium.

NOTE: Pan American Lithium, at the time of this publication, is changing its name from Etna Resources, trading under the symbol “ETN”.

“We’re going to be, without question, the best lithium story out there,” said Andrew Brodkey, Pan American’s CEO.

Quite an ambitious statement, coming from a company that has only just listed on the TSX Venture exchange. But then the developments within the company to date suggest that this might not be pure hubris.

“The reason why we’re the best story is really simple,” he continued. “We’ve got the best properties, and we’re going to be one of the fastest into production. The timeline is relatively short, and the market is failry well understood y the people who are starting to develop the industry. The whole worldwide consumption is still under 100,000 tonnes per year of lithium carbonate, which is the standard commodity form in which lithium is sold.

85,000 tonnes of that annually is through a couple of big operators, and 70% of the production comes from South America.”

The largest supplier of lithium in the world is Chile-based SQM, who last year boosted lithium production from 30,000 to 40,000 metric tonnes annually. SQM has 30% market share of the global lithium market.

      Financing Not a Problem
Pan American Lithium has already attracted a major industrial investor – testimony to the viability of their assets. The company announce earlier this week that POSCO, a privately held Korean conglomerate, had entered into a non-binding letter of Intent with Pan American, whereby an amount of up to CDN$5 million may be invested by POSCO.

POSCO will make an initial payment of CDN$1 million on signing of the subscription agreement-- POSCO will make the remaining payment of CDN$4 million at closing of the subscription agreement. POSCO will receive Pan American Lithium shares at a price of CDN$.50 per share, or such greater price if required by the policies of the TSX Venture Exchange-- for each share purchased, POSCO will receive a 1/2 warrant to purchase Pan American Lithium shares at a price of CDN$1.00 per share for 2 years; the warrants.

Pan American Lithium controls interests in nine “salars” with the potential to produce lithium and other metals from surface lakes and subsurface brines, all located in the mineral-rich Atacama Region III of Chile. The rights in these nine lithium salars cover a cumulative area in excess of 11,500 hectares, all accessible via serviceable roads. Pan American Lithium has submitted a NI43-101 compliant report on these projects and is currently reviewing its portfolio to determine a priority amongst these properties and a process to move forward on the technical assessment of these sites.

      Mexican Geothermal Plant Brines
As announced on December 21, 2009, Pan American Lithium the option to acquire 76% of the shares of Escondidas by Pan American Lithium, which will result in Pan American Lithium receiving indirect interests in a joint venture whereby Escondidas and another party will jointly develop lithium and precious metals through concessions in the geothermal brines currently being produced at the Cierro Prieto geothermal power plant located in Baja California, Mexico, roughly 30 km south of the city of Mexicali.

The beauty about geothermal brines is there is absolutely ZERO cost or exploration risk.

Uses for Lithium Lithium is a metal from the alkaline family whose main properties are:

      * Lightest solid element at room temperature;
      * Low coefficient of thermal expansion;
      * High electrochemical potential.

Given their versatility, lithium chemicals have a wide variety of applications. Because lithium is the lightest solid element at room temperature and it has a high electrochemical potential, lithium is the ideal cathode material for rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion) and anode material in primary, or non-rechargeable, batteries.

Around 27% of lithium is produced for batteries used in devices such as cellular phones, portable computers, digital cameras, handheld electronics (PDAs) and MP3s, among others.

In a solid state, lithium is the element with the greatest caloric capacity and therefore is utilized in applications that involve heat transfer, such as ceramic glass, an important component in kitchen stovetops. One of the main advantages of using lithium to manufacture this type of glass is that it improves its appearance, and lithium’s high caloric capacity makes glass harder. Having a low coefficient of thermal expansion makes lithium-containing glass and ceramic coatings (glazes) more resistant to high temperatures and sudden changes in temperature. In addition, adding lithium to glass gives the glass certain physical and mechanical properties such as hardness, shine and increased resistance to chemical agents, among others.

In the last few years, lithium use has experienced significant growth in the steel industry, particularly in continuous casting powder processes where lithium carbonate affords greater speed and fluidity in the molding process. Despite the fact that lithium demand for this application is strongly linked to economic cycles, this application grew between 4 and 5% in 2008.

Demand for lithium hydroxide grew by between 1 and 2% in 2008, resulting primarily from its use in batteries since the principal use for lithium hydroxide –in lubricating grease– showed no growth during the year asa result of the deceleration in the automotive industry that began during the second half of the year.

Lubricating grease represents approximately 75% of the total market for lithium hydroxide. In fact, estimates indicate that more than 70% of the lubricating greases produced in the world contain lithium.

A wide variety of organic and inorganic derivatives are produced from lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide and lithium chloride. These derivatives have various applications, mainly in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Over time, lithium derivatives have shown fairly stable growth rates which are expected to continue in the medium to long term, since these applications in general are very specific and not sensitive to economic cycles.

The company is led by Andrew Brodkey, CEO, President and Director – who has 25 years in the mining industry as a mining engineer, lawyer and senior executive with a focus on corporate legal and business development activities at major mining companies with an emphasis on Latin America, including Magma Copper Company and BHP Copper Inc. Mr. Brodkey also created the International Mining & Metals Group of CB Richard Ellis, Inc (“CBRE”).

      Conclusion
Lithium is on the verge of a major explosion in demand thanks to the anticipated transformation of the world’s automotive fleet from hydrocarbon power to battery power. Most major auto manufacturers have announced their intention to produce some kind of lithium battery powered automobile, and personal electronics are increasingly powered by these highly efficient and energy-dense power sources.

Pan American Lithium, with its diverse project portfolio, is probably one of the best ways to capture the opportunity afforded by this emerging market.

Pan American Lithium Corp. Announces the Commencement of Chilean Resource Estimate Study - Jan 28, 2010
      www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/pan-american-lithium-corp-a…

"TUCSON, ARIZONA -- 01/28/10 -- Pan American Lithium Corp. ("Pan American" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE: PL) is pleased to announce that it has commenced a study at its 100% owned Laguna Verde salar in Atacama Region III, Chile, in order to develop an inferred resource estimate for lithium content compliant with National Instrument 43-101.

The Laguna Verde salar features a surface brine lake of approximately 15 square kilometres in size. Pan American intends to run depth and bathymetric surveys of the lake in order to determine an estimate of the volume of brines contained therein. The Company also intends to take representative samples from various traverses run across the lake, and have these samples analyzed by a certified laboratory, in order to enable a professional geologist to render an estimate of lithium or lithium carbonate equivalent contained therein. The Company expects to deliver the results of this study sometime during the first calendar quarter of 2010. Pan American believes the surface brines offer the potential to be of the lowest cost and quickest to production of all of its Chilean assets.

Pan American has engaged John Hiner, L.P.G., for this exercise. Mr. Hiner visited the Laguna Verde and other salars of Pan American in late 2009 and authored the NI 43-101 Technical Report on the Company's Chilean salar projects which was filed on SEDAR on November 13, 2009.

Pan American has an existing portfolio of rights in nine salars in Chile, covering a cumulative area in excess of 11,500 hectares, all accessible via serviceable roads. In addition, the Company recently announced a transaction whereby it has the option to acquire 76% of the issued and outstanding shares of Escondidas Internacional S.A. de C.V., a private Mexican company which is a party to a joint venture regarding the development of lithium products from the brine concessions at the Cierro Prieto geothermal power plant in Baja California Norte, Mexico. The Laguna Verde salar, similar to its other Chilean property interests, is subject to a 2% NSR to a maximum of US$6 million. The Company may repurchase 1% of the NSR for US$2 million prior to the commencement of commercial production.

This survey determined the depth of the lake at 17 sample points and is part of an ongoing detailed sampling program to determine a National Instrument 43-101 compliant resource estimate, expected to be finalized by the end of the first calendar quarter, 2010. The deepest sounding taken was 60 meters and the average mean depth of the lake is estimated to be 33 meters. At each point a brine sample was taken at minimum depths of 0.5 meters. The UTM (Universal Trans Mercator) grid coordinates and the lake bottom depths are as follows:

In light of the preliminary results of this survey, Pan American intends to focus its sampling program to systematically collect brine waters of the lake at various depths, at the same coordinates, using specialized sampling equipment. These samples will be submitted for analysis to an ISO-certified laboratory. Concurrently, the Company will continue to take depth measurements of the lake in order to confirm an estimate of its volume. The Company expects to deliver the results of this phase of the scoping study sometime during the first calendar quarter of 2010.

The Laguna Verde Project is intended to exploit the lithium and potassium bearing brines contained in a 15 square kilometre surface lake in the foothills of the Chilean Andes. Pan American is conducting this initial sampling as part of its resource estimate and initial scoping study at Laguna Verde. Because Laguna Verde is an above-ground lake, its brine waters can be readily sampled and represents a potential resource that may be quickly calculated, with a production cost that could be the lowest among other sources of lithium.

Pan American also has an existing portfolio of rights in nine salars in Region III of Chile (including Laguna Verde), covering a cumulative area in excess of 11,500 hectares and the option to acquire an interest in a geothermal brine project in Mexico.
