Vor fünf Jahren verkaufte Pirelli sein Kabelgeschäft Prysmian. Die einst ungeliebte Sparte hat sich inzwischen zum Marktführer gemausert.
Nun hat also auch die Deutsche Bank die Aktie entdeckt. Nicht als erste, nicht als einzige und zudem noch nicht einmal mit einem überraschenden Urteil. Das Votum lautet "Kaufen", so wie bei zwölf anderen Aktienanalysten. Drei raten zum Halten nur einer zum Verkauf. Überraschend höchstens das kecke Kursziel von 21 Euro - im Mittel trauen die Analysten der Aktie nur 16 Euro zu. Das hat wohl dabei geholfen, den Titel am Mittwoch, als die Studie veröffentlicht wurde, um sechs Prozent nach oben zu bugsieren.
Deutschen Anlegerohren dürfte die Firma wenig sagen: Prysmian. An der Größe muss das nicht liegen, immerhin bringt das Unternehmen fast 2,7 Milliarden Euro Marktkapitalisierung auf die Waage. An der Bedeutung und der Verbreitung der Produkte von Prysmian, Strom- und Telekommunikationskabel, wohl auch nicht. Eher schon daran, dass die Firma, als sie 2005 von ihrer Mutter abgespalten wurde, deren bekannten Namen nicht übernehmen durfte: Pirelli. Die Italiener hatten sich zur Jahrtausendwende wie so viele andere Telekomausrüster das Wachstum der Glasfasernetze zu rasant vorgestellt, kamen durch übermäßige Investitionen ins Schlingern und trennten sich 2005 dann vom Kabelgeschäft.
Hier beginnt die erstaunliche Geschichte und Wandlung von Prysmian. Käufer damals war nämlich Goldman Sachs. Und entgegen allen Erfahrungen hat das amerikanische Finanzhaus den Laden nicht nur ausgemistet, effizienter gemacht und schlanker aufgestellt, sondern all das hinbekommen, ohne die Zukunftsfähigkeit der Firma zu gefährden: Im Gegenteil, Prysmian ist durch die Konzentration auf das margenträchtige, technologisch anspruchsvollere und strukturell interessantere Geschäft heute deutlich besser aufgestellt.
Und als wäre diese strategisch nachhaltige Ausrichtung nicht überraschend genug, brachte Goldman Prysmian 2007 nicht überpreist und nicht überschuldet an die Börse. Wahrscheinlich hatte die US-Bank es schlicht nicht mehr nötig, die Rendite auf dieses Investment wird mehr als golden gewesen sein. Anfang des Monats verkaufte Goldman die letzten Anteile, jetzt befinden sich sämtliche Aktien im Streubesitz. Von den 1,25 Prozent abgesehen, die der Vorstandsvorsitzende hält - er kaufte zuletzt noch mal 1,5 Millionen Aktien dazu.
Prysmian bewegt sich in den Märkten Telefon- und Stromkabel. Hierunter fällt sämtliches Geschäft mit den Versorgern selbst, aber auch mit Industriekunden und Installateuren. Doch die Musik spielt nicht im wettbewerbsintensiven, zyklischen Mittelspannungsbereich, sondern bei Hochspannungs- und Tiefseekabeln. Hier beherrscht Prysmian zusammen mit der französischen Nexans, die im Jahr 2000 von Alcatel abgespalten wurde ein Drittel beziehungsweise fast die Hälfte des Marktes. Diese Projekte sind besonders komplex, die Markteintrittsbarrieren hoch, die Margen somit attraktiv und auch das Auftragspolster üppig - es reicht bei Prysmian für Tiefseekabel über zwei Jahre. Solche oligopolistische Strukturen legen natürlich oft den Verdacht von Preisabsprachen nah, und so laufen derzeit auch kartellrechtliche Prüfungen.
Dass Prysmian ein Kabelverlegeschiff hat, mit dem weltweit technisch nur zwei andere mithalten können, ist Ausdruck des Fokus auf Forschung und Entwicklung. Der Konzern hält mehr als 3000 Patente, an sieben Forschungszentren arbeiten weltweit 400 Ingenieure.

Milan, 15 April 2010. The shareholders of Prysmian S.p.A. met today in ordinary and extraordinary session. During the ordinary session, the shareholders:
* approved the financial statements for 2009 and the distribution of a dividend of Euro 0.417 per share for a total of around Euro 74 million. The dividend will be paid out from 22 April 2010, with the shares going ex-div on 19 April 2010, and will be payable to shares outstanding on the ex-div date;
* appointed the Board of Statutory Auditors, in the persons of:
o Marcello Garzia, Chairman,
o Luigi Guerra, Standing statutory auditor,
o Paolo Burlando, Standing statutory auditor,
o Giovanni Rizzi, Alternate statutory auditor,
o Luciano Rai, Alternate statutory auditor.
The Board of Statutory Auditors thus appointed will remain in office until the Shareholders' Meeting called to approve the financial statements at 31 December 2012. Since no candidate slates were presented, the Shareholders' Meeting appointed the Board of Statutory Auditors on the basis of the shareholders’ proposals, by majority vote, with the majority required by the law, without slate voting mechanism. The curricula vitae of the newly appointed statutory auditors are available on the Company's website at www.prysmian.com;
* determined that the Board of Directors should have 10 members, and appointed Stefano Bulletti as a new director, whose mandate will end, together with the other directors, at the Shareholders' Meeting called to approve the financial statements at 31 December 2011. The curriculum vitae of the new director are available on the Company's website at www.prysmian.com;
* set the annual emoluments of the Board of Directors at Euro 325,000 for financial year 2010, and granted the Board itself the authority to determine how such sum should be allocated between all or just some of the directors;
* approved, under article 114-bis of Italian Legislative Decree 58/98, the amendments to the Incentive Plan adopted by the Company in 2006 and already communicated to the market, even through the related information memorandum.
During the extraordinary session, the shareholders voted to amend art. 6 of the By-laws so as to extend until 30 June 2013 the term for subscribing the capital increase for cash which is associated with the above Incentive Plan.

MILAN, May 26 (Reuters) - Italy's Tamburi Investment Partners SpA intends to increase its stake in Italian cable maker Prysmian, Tamburi's chairman and chief executive said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, TIP said that together with partners Angelini Partecipazioni SpA and Amico Societa di Navigazione SpA their investment vehicle Clubtre has increased its Prysmian stake over 2 percent.
'It is always better not to fix targets. However, rarely do we stop at stakes as small as this,' Giovanni Tamburi said in the sidelines of a conference.
TIP has been approached by other investors who want to join the TIP-led group, Tamburi said, adding he favours additional investors coming from the 100 business families among TIP's shareholders, he said.
Brokers said they believe the group will continue to acquire Prysmian shares but not make a takeover bid. One broker said the group could overtake BlackRock's 5.7 percent and become the largest shareholder.
At 1254 GMT Prysmian shares were up 10.9 percent at 12.57 euros outperforming the STOXX Europe 600 industrial goods and services index which was up 3.2 percent.
Prysmian market capitalisation is about 2.2 billion euros ($2.7 billion). One broker said that based on newspaper reports he believes the TIP group has 100 million euros of funds available to buy Prysmian shares and can also take on debt.
Earlier this year, Goldman Sachs sold its remaining stake in Prysmian, which it acquired in a private equity deal in 2005.

Prysmian, a leading worldwide player in the energy and telecommunications cables industry, has been awarded a project worth in excess of € 150 million by the German transmission system operator transpower - a subsidiary of the Dutch grid operator TenneT - for the grid connection project HelWin1 linking two offshore wind farms in the North Sea to mainland Germany.
Prysmian will provide complete supply, installation and commissioning of the submarine and land cable connections as part of a larger contract worth approximately a half billion, awarded to the consortium of Prysmian and Siemens Energy. Siemens will deliver the Voltage Sourced Converter (VSC) system, with a rating of 576 MW. The turnkey connection will first link the Offshore Wind Park Nord See Ost, located about 85 km offshore, to the mainland with the purpose of transmitting wind generated renewable power into the German Grid.
The project closely follows the recently awarded BorWin2 project, worth more than € 200 million, which sets a number of milestones in the industry as it will be the first commercial ± 300 kV DC cable project using extruded technology (highest direct current voltage level ever reached), the first 800 MW connection to offshore wind parks and the largest VSC system with a capacity of 800 MW. The HelWin1 project will also use extruded HVDC cable technology from Prysmian together with Siemens HVDC Plus® converter technology at the offshore platform and onshore stations. The HVDC connection of approximately 130 km to be supplied by Prysmian will comprise subsea and land cable types at a voltage of ± 250 kV DC along a 85 km sea route passing to the east of Helgoland continuing along a 45 km land route to the land converter station in Büttel, north-west of Hamburg. Extruded 155 kV HVAC submarine cable connections will complete the connections from the offshore wind park transformer platforms to the offshore converter platform.
The cables and accessories will be manufactured from 2011 onwards in Prysmian's European HV factories including the dedicated submarine cable facility in Arco Felice, Italy. Installation activities will commence in 2011 and continue throughout 2012. The commencement of operation of the HVDC link is planned for 2013.
Prysmian has developed a wide range of state-of-the-art products and technologies for applications in the renewable energies sector, from wind turbines and solar plants to large high voltage interconnection systems of new power generation sites. This latest contract again demonstrates Prysmian's leading position in the development of HVDC cables for power transmission in terms of both technical expertise and the commitment to support smarter and greener power grids throughout the world. Among other projects in which Prysmian has recently been involved in the field of both HVDC power transmission and offshore wind parks are some of the largest developments worldwide such as Walney, Ormonde, Gunfleet Sands, Thanet and Greater Gabbard in the UK as well as Alpha Ventus and BorWin2 in Germany.

MILAN, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Yachtsman Valerio Battista is used to sailing close to the wind, yet the Prysmian Spa boss faces a tougher challenge off the water as he duels with Chinese group Xinmao for control of Dutch rival Draka.
Armed with an unflashy but workmanlike manner, Chief Executive Battista has been resolute in turning Italy's Prysmian from a low-key division within Italy's Pirelli&C tyre group into Europe's most profitable cable maker.
After folding a previous plan for an all-paper tie-up with Draka, Battista revisited his dream of overtaking French rival Nexans to become the world's largest maker of energy and telecom cables with a friendly cash-and-share offer.
Battista's plan faced immediate headwinds as little-known Chinese company Xinmao entered the race with plans for a higher, all-cash 1 billion euro ($1.33 billion) offer for Draka, only hours after Prysmian's friendly bid announcement.
But Battista, a keen sailor used to braving the waves even during the cold winter months, showed his cool when he dealt with news of Xinmao's surprise bid during an analyst call.

Fifty-two-year-old Battista took on a top post at Pirelli's cable division in 2002, switching from tyres, before becoming its CEO in 2005, the same year Pirelli sold the activities to Goldman Sachs's private equity arm.
Prysmian listed on the Milan bourse in 2007 and since then Goldman has sold down its stake at a handsome profit.
Battista himself owns 1.2 percent of Prysmian, now worth about 28 million euros. And in 2010 he is expected to earn 1.9 million euros, including basic salary, bonus and options.
He has kept the management team from the Pirelli era, apart from adding Chief Financial Officer Pier Francesco Facchini, overseeing cost cuts and a shift to more high-valued cables for submarine and optical fibre have delivered higher margins.
Since Xinmao threatened to wreck his party, Battista has maintained he does not intend to raise his bid. At the same time he has lobbied the Italian government and the European Union on fears Europe could lose cable know-how to China.
The mechanical engineering graduate from Florence University is not a part of Italy's 'salotto buono', the so-called backroom where Italian business deals are often hatched in a political way, a colleague said.
'He does not have visibility nor seek it. He does not go to fashionable events. He is very concrete,' an ex-colleague said.
However, in his own industry, Battista can lobby high-level institutions on key cable issues thanks to his role as president of the International Cablemakers Federation.
Despite leaving the Pirelli orbit five years ago, Battista, who hails from the Tuscany region, keeps up some of the Pirelli traditions like Pirelli Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera.

MILAN, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Yachtsman Valerio Battista is used to sailing close to the wind, yet the Prysmian Spa boss faces a tougher challenge off the water as he duels with Chinese group Xinmao for control of Dutch rival Draka.
Armed with an unflashy but workmanlike manner, Chief Executive Battista has been resolute in turning Italy's Prysmian from a low-key division within Italy's Pirelli&C tyre group into Europe's most profitable cable maker.
After folding a previous plan for an all-paper tie-up with Draka, Battista revisited his dream of overtaking French rival Nexans to become the world's largest maker of energy and telecom cables with a friendly cash-and-share offer.
Battista's plan faced immediate headwinds as little-known Chinese company Xinmao entered the race with plans for a higher, all-cash 1 billion euro ($1.33 billion) offer for Draka, only hours after Prysmian's friendly bid announcement.
But Battista, a keen sailor used to braving the waves even during the cold winter months, showed his cool when he dealt with news of Xinmao's surprise bid during an analyst call.

2015 war mal wieder ein besseres Jahr,
aber irgendwie kann ich mich hier nie entscheiden:Mag die hohe EK-Rendite und das Business an sich, aber mich stören die hohe Bewertung und der fehlende klare Wachstumstrend.

Sie werden GLW bestimmte nicht schlucken, aber bei der Größe der beiden wird wohl jeder kleinere Brocken auch geprüft.
