Also los!

Matamec Evaluates its Potential Rare Earths-Yttrium and Zirconium Markets and Investigates the Possibility to Be a Potential Supplier of Strategic and Green Metals
      6/17/2010 8:02:05 AM - Market Wire

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Jun 17, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) --
Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec") (TSX VENTURE: MAT) is proud to announce that it has decided to investigate the possibility to be a potential source of low-production cost and environmentally friendly strategic and green metals, such as rare earths-yttrium and zirconium. In this context, Matamec continues exploration of its Kipawa deposit to demonstrate that the Company could supply industrial users of rare earth-yttrium oxides ("TREO") and zirconium.

In an international environment which favours green mining and clean technologies, Matamec could demonstrate that the Kipawa deposit could be the first North American producer of a combination of rare earths-yttrium ("HREO/Yttrium") and zirconium, with sustainable development as the objective of its exploitation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------PRESS RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS--------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to Les Heymann (P.Eng.) and A. Mariano (Ph.D), the Kipawadeposit is a potential source of HREO/Yttrium which could compete with theSouth China clays deposits;- A scoping study is scheduled for fall 2010 on the Kipawa depositconsidering a future drilling campaign, an easily separable physically andchemically TREO / Yttrium mineralization, promising metallurgical testscurrently underway, and current resources announced recently in rare earthelements, yttrium and zirconium;- With current resources of 15,800,000 kg indicated TREO and 31,200,000 kginferred TREO with a TREO cut-off grade of 0.50% with a HREO+Y2O3 ratio of30-33%, the Kipawa deposit represent a potential supply of heavy rareearths and yttrium which can compete with the Chinese market;- With current resources of 208,100,000 kg indicated ZrO2 and 182,200,000kg inferred ZrO2 with a ZrO2 cut-off grade of 0.50%, the Kipawa depositcurrently represents a potential supply of ZrO2 or zirconia. Themetallurgical tests should establish that it is possible to extract ZrO2from eudialyte and vlasovite.- A possible exploitation of the Kipawa deposit's zirconium would be lessenvironmentally damaging than the current exploitation of heavy mineralsands;- These resources represent a potential supply of TREO-Zirconium from adeposit that can allow a sustainable mining development on small area.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Sustainable Development and Matamec

Sustainable development is readily described as a way of thinking and behaving that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Although this large definition does not refer to any specific approach for the achievement of this goal, energy is presently one of the most important features of this search for sustainability.

One of the reasons the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s David Sandalow claims the government ought to look into the development of a rare earths chain is that many of the technologies that are presently proposed to replace fossil fuels and foster a global clean energy economy almost all contain rare earths. For example, wind turbines, electric cars and solar panels all use rare earth elements, ... and the list goes on. According to experts in the field, rare earths are difficult to replace with other materials; in specialized products, they are irreplaceable.

As for the Canadian Government, although it did not propose new laws pertaining to rare earths per se, is interested in ensuring a greater integration of sustainable development into departmental policies and advancing Canada's sustainable development interests is clear in their 2009 Sustainable Development Agenda. The Canadian "Green Mining Initiative" also provides, amongst other things, a framework from which development of a clean energy industry can come about. For example, CANMET-Mining and Minerals Science Labs, a federal-level organization, is currently doing R & D in order to find solutions to a range of environmental challenges. This R & D includes research on zirconium, yttrium and rare earths.

Alternative energy research and development is underway in other areas of the world as well. For example, in Asian countries, the demand for nuclear-grade zirconium alloy is expected to grow to by more 60% between 2010 and 2020 because of the increase of nuclear power plants, whereas the world demand only increases by approximately 25-30%. India recently launched the National Solar Mission, which has a goal of reaching 20 gigawatts of installed solar capacity by 2020. This clearly indicates that reliance on fossil fuels for their energy consumption is unviable.

Unless the world's governments radically change their policies as regards to environmentally-friendly and a more sustainable type of economy, rare earths and zirconium are resources that may help these bodies to achieve part their goals. At least for the G20 countries, there is presently a political will to achieve an understanding about sustainability and climate change.

Potential North American Supply of Rare Earths and Yttrium Oxides(i)

In 2008 world demand was about 131,000 m.t. of TREO in various forms, such as carbonates, chlorides, oxides and occasionally individual metals for a total of U.S. $ 1.25 billion. Demand has grown from 8 to 10% per year between 2000 and 2007. The major consumers are China (60%), Japan and north-east Asia (20%), United States (13%) and the rest of the world (7%).

Over the past 12 years, new technologies using TREO, most notably in magnets and electronics, have experienced the strongest growth in the rare earth market. In 2008, TREO was used in magnets (21%), metal alloys (18%) and phosphorus (7%). However, these three applications respectively represented in value (in U.S. $) 37%, 14% and 31% of world demand, making magnets and phosphors the most valued applications.

The 2008 global supply of TREO was 124,000 m.t. with more than 95% of it coming from China. According to Chinese official sources, 66,000 m.t. came from the Bayan Obo mine (its LREO/MREO reserves are estimated to be more than 56 m.t.). Another 36,000 m.t. came from the Longnan/Jianxi South China clays. For these clays, experts estimate that production will continue at most for the next 15-20 years. Allegedly, another 10 to 15 m.t. of TREO is illegally produced from Sichuan's bastanaesites and from South China's clays. Finally, the remainder of the TREO global supply comes from the Russian Loparite Lovozersky deposit (2,500 m.t.) and from the American Mountain Pass stockpile (2,000 m.t.)

Matamec does not intend to compete with the three major LREO-MREO deposits. The table below summarizes the state of affairs for the main world producer, Bayan Obo. The table also sums up the situation for the two other main projects outside of China, Mt. Weld and Mountain Pass:

------------------------------------------------------------------Main Producers or Potential Producers of LREO/MREO in the World------------------------------------------------------------------Deposits Type of Mineral Localisation Resources------------------------------------------------------------------Bayan Obo Bastnaesite China 1 460 Mt @ 3.9%TREO------------------------------------------------------------------Mt Weld Monazite Australia 12 Mt @ 9.7%alteree TREO------------------------------------------------------------------Mountain Pass Bastnaesite USA 20 Mt @ 9.3%TREO--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Main Producers or Potential Producers of LREO/MREO inthe World--------------------------------------------------------Deposits TREO (tonnes) Cut-off Grade--------------------------------------------------------Bayan Obo 56 Mt Unavailable--------------------------------------------------------Mt Weld 1.2 Mt 2,5% TREO--------------------------------------------------------Mountain Pass 1.8 Mt 5% TREO--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Main Producers or PotentialProducers of LREO/MREO in the World------------------------------------Deposits Status------------------------------------Bayan Obo In production------------------------------------Mt Weld Production plannedfor 2011------------------------------------Mountain Pass Production plannedfor 2011------------------------------------

Instead, Matamec intends to compete with the HREO/Yttrium deposits, such as the South China lateritic Clays and Australia's TREO-Zr Dubbo deposit, both described below:

--------------------------------------------------------------------Main Advanced Producers of TREO of HREO-Y and HREO-Y-Zr in the World--------------------------------------------------------------------Deposit Type of mineral Localisation Resources--------------------------------------------------------------------Provinces of Lateritic clays China Estimated forXunwu/ Lognan- another 15-20Jiangxi years--------------------------------------------------------------------Dubbo Zirconia Ancylite, Y Australia 73 Mt @ 0.9% TREOsilicate------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Main Advanced Producers of TREO of HREO-Y and HREO-Y-Zr inthe World----------------------------------------------------------Deposit TREO (tonnes) Cut-off Grade----------------------------------------------------------Provinces of Unavailable at UnavailableXunwu/ Lognan- 0.03% TREOJiangxi----------------------------------------------------------Dubbo Zirconia 0.7 Mt In Zirconium------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Main Advanced Producers of TREO ofHREO-Y and HREO-Y-Zr in the World--------------------------------------Deposit Status--------------------------------------Provinces of In productionXunwu/ Lognan-Jiangxi--------------------------------------Dubbo Zirconia Pilot Plant--------------------------------------

According to Les Heymann (P.Eng.) and A. Mariano (Ph.D), the Kipawa deposit is a potential source of HREO/Yttrium which could compete with the South China clays deposits. Both deposits contain HREO/Yttrium which is at the high value end of the rare earth market. The Kipawa deposit is now thought to contain a grade of 0.63% indicated TREO and 0.66% inferred TREO , while the South China Clays average about 0.03% TREO. It should be noted, however, that the recovery of values from the two types of deposits have totally different cost structures.

In the process of mineral processing of rare earths-yttrium, a TREO concentrate is first produced. The price of such a TREO concentrate varies depending on where it is produced in China:

-------------------------------------------------------------------Price of rare earths oxides concentrates ("REO")in $US/kg-------------------------------------------------------------------Chinese Production Bayan Obo SichuanLocation-------------------------------------------------------------------Type REO concentrate REO concentrate REO concentrate greatergreater than 0.50% than 0.70%-------------------------------------------------------------------4e trimestre 2006- 0.95 1.20$US/kg-------------------------------------------------------------------May 28th, 2010-$US/kg - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Price of rare earths oxides concentrates ("REO")in $US/kg------------------------------------------------------------------Chinese Production Unknown origin GuangdongLocation------------------------------------------------------------------Type REO concentrate REO concentrate REO concentrategreater than 0.92% greater than 0.92%------------------------------------------------------------------4e trimestre 2006- - 11.10$US/kg------------------------------------------------------------------May 28th, 2010-$US/kg 5.22 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Price of rare earths oxides concentrates("REO")in $US/kg---------------------------------------------Chinese Production JiangxiLocation---------------------------------------------Type REO concentrate Intermediary Y/Eu-richconcentrate greaterthan 0.92%---------------------------------------------4e trimestre 2006- 10.75$US/kg---------------------------------------------May 28th, 2010-$US/kg ----------------------------------------------

Subsequently, a separation of each individual rare earth element is done. The table below shows the current price of each individual rare earths-yttrium:

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------Price of TREO Oxides (99%) in US$/kg (May 28th, 2010)--------------------------------------------------------------------------Type of REO LREO MREO--------------------------------------------------------------------------Year Ce2O3 La2O3 Nd2O3 Pr2O3 Sm2O3 Eu2O3 Gd2O3--------------------------------------------------------------------------Oct.2009 4.20 5.95 14.40 14.35 4.50 460.00 6.60--------------------------------------------------------------------------May2010 5.50 7.00 31.50 31.50 4.25 530.00 7.40-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Price of TREO Oxides (99%) in US$/kg(May 28th, 2010)---------------------------------------Type of REO HREO/Yttrium(i)---------------------------------------Year Tb2O3 Dy2O3 Y2O3---------------------------------------Oct.2009 350.00 100.00 14.00---------------------------------------May2010 490.00 185.00 22.00---------------------------------------(i) Prices are not available for the other HREO oxides, namely: Ho2O3 ,Er2O3, Tm2O3, Yb2O3 et Lu2O3.

It is forecasted that the demand for TREO will increase to 205,000 m.t. by 2014 (22% for the magnets, 25% for metal alloys and 7% for phosphorus). However, the supply is predicted to be of 203,500 m.t. Therefore, although it depends on market developments, the experts are predicting a shortage of 1,500 m.t. of TREO by 2014. This deficit would supposedly be in HREO/Yttrium (yttrium 500 m.t., dysprosium 209 m.t. and terbium 40 m.t.).

Be that as it may, there are other factors to consider when evaluating the rare earths market. In 2009, the Chinese government announced changes to its policy with respect to strategic minerals. More specifically, the Chinese government reduced its export quotas and plans to completely stop the exportation of certain rare earths in order to ensure the future supply of rare earths for Chinese industries. Also, the world production of HREO/Yttrium comes from the Chinese lateritic clays in the province of Longnan/Jiangxi in Southern China. For these clays, experts estimate that the production will continue at the most for another 15-20 years.

Due to these factors, prices of some rare earth oxides have increased since Fall 2009. The Chinese government announced on May 21st, 2010 that it intends to crack down on the illegal production of rare earths in southern China (which mainly produces HREO) because the recent TREO price increase has intensified the illegal production. These measures not only intend to protect the resources of the country, but also suggest an environmental protection work plan for 2010.

The Chinese government intends to implement a long-term surveillance system to monitor the TREO production. The environmental work plan for 2010 will put an end to illegal logging and put in place environmentally-friendly production methods. With these measures, the Chinese government hopes to stop the overproduction of TREO caused by the current uncontrolled domestic production by illegal means. The consolidation of the number of producers in this sector will help stabilize the prices on the international market by offering a more controlled production and by ensuring a more sustainable production of the TREO.

In addition, other factors could affect the price of TREO:

      -- The announcements from the Chinese and Japanese governments that theyintend to build up their strategic stockpiles of several thousand tons;-- To secure their access to supplies, industrial users also want to obtaintheir TREO concentrates outside of China. For example, the AmericanSenate is presently reviewing acts pertaining to the establishment of arare earths exploitation to manufacturing chain in the U.S. because oftheir strategic importance like neodymium, but the implementation ofthese acts would undoubtedly also increase the rare earths market.Indeed, the rare earths deposits usually contain more than one of therare earth elements;-- Thirdly, an increase of future demand could be generated by increaseduse of applications using TREO and / or the emergence of newapplications;

Afuture drilling campaign, promising metallurgical tests indicating easy physical and chemical separation of the TREO/yttrium mineralization, and a 15,800,000 kg indicated and 31,200,000 kg inferred current resource calculation at a cut-off grade of 0.50% TREO with a ratio of 30-33% HREO+Y2O3/TREO announcement for the Kipawa Deposit allows us to envision a scoping study for Fall 2010. Moreover, these resources could contribute to sustainable mining development and source of TREO on a small area.

Other Potential North American Supply of Zirconium Oxides(ii)

Zirconium (Zr) is the 20th element present in the Earth's crust. In nature, it combines with silica and oxygen to form the mineral zircon (ZrSiO4). This mineral is usually obtained as a by-product or under-product of the exploitation of heavy mineral sands of titanium, ilmenite and rutile, or tin minerals. The known reserves of zircon are estimated at 56 million tonnes. Excluding the U.S., the 2009 world production of zircon was 1.38 million tons with a value of over U.S. $ 1.1 billion. Australia and South Africa respectively produced 37% and 29%, and China consumes 30% of world production. Zircon is currently sold between U.S. $ 800 - 1000 m.t.

In 2006, 791 000 t. of zircon was used in the production of different grades of powder and opacifiers, 57 000 t. of zirconia, 130 000 t. in chemical compound of zirconium and 70 000 t. in zirconium metal and alloys. In 2009, approximately 53% of the consumption of zircon is used in ceramics (tiles for walls and floors, sanitary products and table wares), 25% in refractory and various uses in foundries and 16% for "fused Zirconia" and zirconium chemical compound in the nuclear industry (zirconium alloy tubes, etc..), in desalination plants and in electronics.

Especially for zirconium, it is used for its physico-chemical properties: corrosion resistance, resistance to radiation, high penetration of slow neutrons and property retention at high temperature. Currently, zircon is the main ore of zirconium. However, about 7000 tpy of zirconium comes from the mineral baddeleyite, a natural form of ZrO2, called zirconia or zirconia. Another mineral regarded by some as a potential source of zirconium is eudialyte. Furthermore, Matamec also believes that the mineral vlasovite (NaZrSi4O11) is an even more important source of zirconium than eudialyte in the Kipawa deposit.

The main potential market for Matamec is that of zirconia. Global consumption of zirconia is about 40,000 tpy of which 48% as resistant, 39% as ceramic pigments, 11% as abrasive and 2% in electronics. More specifically, the advanced ceramic and the electronics market is growing rapidly. Another potential market for Matamec would be as input in the transformation of zirconium metal. World consumption is about 7000 tpy, of which 85% is intended to produce nuclear energy and the rest mainly for alloys.

In the following table, the current prices for various zirconium compounds are presented:

Regarding green mining, the exploitation of heavy mineral sands are seen as harmful to the environment. For example, Australia imposes restrictions on their operations in certain regions, if not a ban on their exploration or the initiation of new operations.

YSZ (yttria-stabilised zirconia) is also a key component of solid oxide fuel cells, a source under development for electricity considered "clean". This is one of the most effective technological solutions to pollution control caused by dependence on fossil fuels. This battery produces electricity, does not pollute the atmosphere, does not make noise and releases only water and heat. For example, since 2002 Siemens and the DOE entered into an agreement to develop low-cost solid oxide fuel cell power systems for residential, automotive and military applications which should be ready for 2012.

With current resource containing indicated 208.1 million kg of ZrO2 and Inferred 182.2 million kg of ZrO2 at a cut-off grade of 0.50% ZrO2, the Kipawa deposit now represents a potential source of ZrO2. The metallurgical tests currently underway should help to establish that it is possible to extract ZrO2 from the minerals eudialyte and vlasovite. Also, a possible exploitation of the Kipawa Deposit could represent an environmentally-friendlier alternative to the exploitation of heavy mineral sands.

Matamec Successfully Recovered REE-Y-Zr Values from Eudialyte Concentrates From the Kipawa Deposit
MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 08/09/10 -- Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE: MAT) is pleased to announce that the Matamec research doing metallurgical testwork has successfully recovered rare earth, yttrium and zirconium values from eudialyte concentrates originating at its Zeus property. This is a significant result because REE-Y-Zr were considered very difficult to recover from eudialyte due to the formation of a silica gel in the leaching step during processing. The new process developed for the Kipawa eudialyte concentrate greatly reduces the consequences of forming silica gel. Andre Gauthier, president of Matamec, would like to "congratulate the Matamec research team for this technological breakthrough."

The concentrates, used in the testwork, were made of rock originating from the specimen pit at the Kipawa deposit. The processing of these concentrates, conducted at SGS Lakefield Research in Lakefield, Ontario, resulted in a recovery rate of 67.7% of the zirconium and an average of 61.1% of the rare earth and yttrium values contained in the samples. These results come from the first 3 tests that were not yet optimized.

The ore treatment was done according to a proprietary process developed on behalf of Matamec to treat eudialyte minerals. Future work will apply similar technology to the production and leaching of a concentrate from the main zone of the Kipawa deposit, named Eudialyte zone.

Les Heymann (P.Eng), Anthony Mariano (PhD geologist) and Aline Leclerc, geologist (OGQ) and Matamec's Vice-President Exploration, are Matamec's Qualified Persons for this press release write up.

      1) they have a good deposit confirmed open at depth and length
they are developing for their Zeus project will be successful very shortly he said "we know we have a very good deposit" and they continue to expand on it...he's hoping to have 2-3 NR's in August that will make shareholders happy!!!!Some of the reasons I like this HREE play over others is because: 1) they have a good deposit confirmed open at depth and length
2)metallurgy is well on the way(and every REE deposit requires their OWN meturlurgy for the individual deposit)
      3) the deposit is right below the surface (so open pit mining in mining friendly Quebec)

but most important is the Infastructure...
roads, electricity, smelters, and skilled labour are all right there, so the cost of production should be extremely low compared to other projects...[/

"Matamec has been viewed as a market orphan, and with a large overhang of flow-through paper from Mineral Fields coming free trading in November, spec value hunters should not chase the stock above
.50 unless Matamec nails down a financing of at least $5 million so that it can initiate the infill drilling program and larger scale metallurgical studies that the next development stage for the Kipawa project entails. My expectation is that Kipawa will end up with an in situ value of $2-$3 billion which will likely translate into a $100-$150 million net present value or a stock price target in the $1.00-$1.50 range. Currently using 4 year average FOB prices the existing rare earth enriched resource has an in situ value just short of $1.3 billion, which swells to $3.6 billion using FOB spot prices. I expect a 50%-100% resource estimate boost by the end of 2010 as a result of the summer 2010 expansion drilling, so a $2-$3 billion in situ value with a $150-$200 per tonne rock value reflecting a long term average somewhere between current domestic Chinese and FOB spot prices is a reasonable outcome for Kipawa. Matamec will either be scooped through a surprise takeover bid by an Asian end-user or one by a better financed rare earth junior seeking either diversity of supply or to supplement an existing light rare earth dominated project portfolio."

"Conclusion: I am issuing a Good Relative Spec Value Buy at
      .40 with a
.50 buy limit and a six month target of $1 based on the assumption that a PEA will support an NPV in the $100-$150 million range when it is delivered in Q2 of 2011. I cannot issue an "absolute" buy because we do not have a third party discovered cost structure for the Kipawa project. However, compared to other rare earth juniors in a space for which a bubble is just beginning to form, and which I believe will grow much bigger with absolute liquidity bestowed on the main contenders and considerable spillover impact on the also-rans, Matamec is relatively cheap given the stage and nature of its Kipawa rare earth project. The key to my prediction that Matamec will get swallowed at a valuation double to triple the current valuation is metallurgist Les Heymann, who has generally been a cautious voice warning about the obstacles that the metallurgy stage poses for rare earth projects, as well as Tony Mariano, who has also been a fountain of pessimism but has pounded the table on behalf of Kipawa as a challenge with an imminent solution. When these experts see a breakthrough, and at least one of them signs his name to a press release declaring such breakthrough, one has to pay attention."

      Thursday October 28 2010 - News Release

      Mr. Andre Gauthier reports

MATAMEC OPTIONS TWO ADJACENT PROPERTIES TO THEIR MATHESON JV GOLD PROJECT

Matamec Explorations Inc. has optionned two adjacent properties to the Matheson JV gold project from residents in Timmins within the Timmins gold camp.

      HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PRESS RELEASE

      - Option on two new adjacent properties to the Matheson JV gold project with Goldcorp;

      - A forthcoming resource update for the Kipawa rare earth-yttrium-zirconium deposit is expected as soon as the overlimits from the last summers' drilling campaign will be received.

Andre Gauthier, president de Matamec considers that the "addition of these two properties, along the extension of the high-grade Hoyle Pond gold mine, consolidate the ground positioning of the Mathson JV project, where the company has been exploring since the spring of 2008 with Goldcorp". He adds that: "the company is exploring two major projects, namely Zeus and Matheson JV, where the sought after metals, rare earths and gold, have had the favour of the markets for over a year now".

The terms of the two agreements are as follows: an initial payment of $5,000 and 20,000 company shares upon signing, on the second anniversary another $5,000 payment and 20,000 company shares, on the third anniversary, a $10,000 payment and 20,000 shares, on the fourth anniversary a $20,000 payment and 20,000 shares and on the fifth anniversary a payment 0f $40,000 and 20,000 shares. As well, a 1% Net smelter return "NSR" royalty is granted to the owners whereby Matamec shall have a right of first refusal to purchase the net smelter return royalty or any part of the royalty interest.

Exploration and mine development work along the "New Mine Trend" has been on-going with fervour since mid-2009 by, amongst others, Goldcorp and Lake Shore Gold Corporation. At the Hoyle Pond mine, Goldcorp have recently announced the advancement of the underground shaft sinking to give them access to newly discovered gold zones at depth, and thus continue their exploration to the south and to the east. The Hoyle Pond mine is situated 1.7 kilometres west of the Matheson JV property. The latter property, where Matamec is pursuing the exploration in partnership with Goldcorp, covers the eastern extension of the rocks that are host the mineralization at the Hoyle Pond mine.

      Kipawa rare-earths-yttrium-zirconium deposit

The work is on-going on the flagship rare-earths-yttrium-zirconium Zeus property of which the Kipawa deposit constitutes the main target. The complete results of the 20 drill holes completed last summer on the central part of the deposit should be known soon. As soon as the overlimit results are received, the resource update will be completed by the firm of SGS Canada Inc. - Geostat geological group.

Aline Leclerc, geologist (OGQ and APGO) and vice-president Exploration for Matamec, is the qualified person for the technical writing of this press release.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 25, 2010) - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:MAT - News) announces a comparative study by Wu et al. from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, published in volume 273, May 2010 edition, of Chemical Geology. The study details the chemical composition of eudialyte from 9 alkaline syenites from the following locales:

      -- Kipawa (Quebec)
      -- Mont St-Hilaire (Quebec)
      -- Khibiny (Russia)
      -- Lovozero (Russia)
      -- Illimaussaq (Greenland)
      -- Saima (China)
      -- Tamazeght (Marocco)
      -- Pocos das Caldas (Brazil)
      -- Langesund Fjord (Norway)

Wu et al. conclude that eudialyte from the Kipawa deposit has a unique composition characterized by:

      - The highest overall value of heavy rare earths (La to Gd)

      - The lowest ratio of light rare earths (La to Gd) to heavy rare earths (Tb to Lu)(see Figure 1: http://media3.marketwire.com/docs/matamec_1125.pdf)

This independent study was carried out using the latest in high precision analysis methods (laser ablation coupled with a high resolution mass spectrometer).

Andre Gauthier, President of Matamec, comments that: "This is yet another brick in the mounting wall of evidence underlining the quality and unique heavy rare earth enrichment of the eudialyte found at the Kipawa deposit. It also demonstrates the foresight of companies like Unocal/Molycorp who targeted Kipawa eudialyte in the mid '80s as an yttrium source that could potentially compete with the low production costs of the South China Clays."

Aline Leclerc, geologist (OGQ) and Vice-President Exploration of Matamec, is the qualified person for this press release. As qualified person, she has supervised the preparation of the scientific and technical information for the Zeus property and verified the data in this press release.

      About Matamec

Other than its focus on the development of the Kipawa deposit and exploration for other showings of rare earths-yttrium-zirconium-niobium-tantalum on its Zeus property, Matamec's exploration strategy is to discover gold deposits, base metals and platinum group, as well as rare metals.

For gold, the company explores in the prolific mining camp of Timmins, Ontario, of which the main target is the Matheson JV with Goldcorp Canada Ltd. and Goldcorp Inc.

In Quebec, the Company is exploring for lithium and tantalum on its Tansim property and for precious and base metals on its Sakami, Valmont and Vulcain properties. As well, it is exploring for gold together with Northern Superior Resources Inc. on the Lesperance/Wachigabau property.

Matamec Announces a 42% Increase in TREO Indicated Resources at its Zeus Property
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 20, 2011) - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company")(TSX VENTURE:MAT) announces that it has received an updated NI 43-101 resource calculation from SGS Canada Inc. - Geostat geological group ("SGS Geostat") for the Kipawa deposit located on its Zeus property. For reference, the original resource estimate, dated May 20th 2010, has been made available on SEDAR since Septembre 17th 2010.

      Press Release Highlights

-- SGS Geostat considers that the deposit is located between surface and a
depth of 90m and is continuous over a distance of 1.45 kilometers, a
width of 200 metres and a thickness of 50 meters; Matamec believes that
the location of the deposit, outcropping at the top of a small hill,
will allow a reduced environmental footprint as well as lower operating
      costs;

-- In this latest estimate, the resource has been considered under two
      scenarios: 1) a resource with a 0.50% ZrO2 cut-off, or 2) a resource
      with a 0.016% Dy2O3 cut-off. Under Scenario 1, indicated resources are
estimated at 67,200 t of TREO while inferred resources are estimated at
53,300 t TREO. This represents a 42% increase in indicated resources
      compared to the May 20th 2010 estimate;

-- Still under Scenario 1, indicated resources of Dy2O3 are estimated at
2,400,000 kg, Tb2O3 resources at 400,000 kg and Y2O3 resources at
14,700,000 kg, while inferred Dy2O3 resource are estimated at 1,900,000
      kg, Tb2O3 resources at 300 000 kg and Y2O3 resources at 12,100,000 kg;

-- A definition drilling campaign is presently underway. This campaign main
objective is the improvement of resource quality, converting the
majority of inferred resources into indicated (see our December 2nd 2010
      press release);

-- Matamec recently announced a 89.2% recuperation of rare Earths from
whole rock from Kipawa's Eudialyte Zone (see our world premiere
announcement in the October 18th 2010 press release), and metallurgical
test are presently underway at SGS Lakefield on concentrates from the
Eudialyte zone. The physical characteristics of the Kipawa ore allow for
low-cost chemical extraction, which gives it a competitive edge against
      current rare earth producers.

-- A scoping study is being prepared by the Roche engineering firm (see our
      Septembre 9th press release).

-- Given the deposit's significant yttrium and heavy rare earth enrichment,
Matamec intends to target the expending permanent magnet and phosphor
world markets. Indeed, prices for 99% pure Tb2O3 have recently risen to
      520$/kg, 300$/kg for Dy2O3 and 70$/kg for Y2O3 (see our June 17th press
      release).

Andre Gauthier, president of the company, comments that: "With the beginning of the 3rd drilling campaign announced on december 2nd 2010 and the 23 DDH completed to date in that campaign, we are confident that we will soon see the majority of resources announced today converted to indicated. Considering the encouraging results we've had in our metallurgical tests, we feel that our current resources, and our heavy rare earth and yttrium resources in particular, clearly show the defining importance of the Kipawa deposit in the rare-earth market."

The Zeus heavy rare earths-yttrium-zirconium Property - Kipawa deposit

The Zeus heavy rare earths-yttrium-zirconium property is located close to infrastructures and is easily accessible via a network of forestry roads. It is located 160 kilometres south-west of Rouyn-Noranda and 65 kilometres east of the town of Temiscaming. The property is 100% owned by Matamec and is composed of 300 designated claims covering more than 17,600 hectares in the Kipawa Alkalic Complex. It includes at its heart the Kipawa deposit, also known as the Sheffield Zone. This deposit had historical yttrium and zirconium resources circa 1990, with its first NI 43-101 resource calculation in May 2010 (available on SEDAR).

      Updated NI 43-101 resources

Detailed results of the updated resource calculation can be found in the following two tables. Resources are presented under two scenarios (greater than 0.5% ZrO2 and greater than 0.016% Dy2O3) with two categories each (indicated and inferred). Heavy rare earth oxides (HREO), total rare earths oxides plus yttrium (TREO), yttrium, zirconium and tonnages are also provided.

The mineralization is located inside a syenite unit. The syenite dips 20 degrees to the south-west and varies in true thickness from 40 to 65 meters. Three TREO enriched layers are found within it and vary in true thickness from 2 to 28 meters. These 3 layers form the TREO enriched geological zone. The non TREO enriched portions of the syenite are referred to as ZrO2 geological zone.

Scenarios 1 and 2 are to be considered separately since resources listed in Scenario 2 are already included in Scenario 1.

Modelling of the NI 43-101 Resources by SGS Geostat

SGS Geostat received a final version of the data on November 15th 2010. The methods used for this estimate are the same as those used for the previous estimate, namely inverse distance squared with indicated resources requiring a drill grid of 50m. Resources extrapolated beyond 30m, as well as calculated rare earth values on historic drill holes, are considered inferred. The database used consists of 12 discontinuous trenches (in 55 continuous parts) and 81 DDH (30 drilled in 1988-1990 by Unocal Canada Ltd., 31 drilled in 2009 by Matamec and 20 drilled in 2010, also by Matamec) totalling 6,317.19 meters drilled and 630.64 meter of channel samples. Note that 4 historical DDH are not being included in this dataset as the information from their 2009 twins is considered more accurate. A total of 4327 analyzed intervals were used for the calculation.

Yann Camus (Eng.) engineer for the independent firm SGS Canada Inc. - geological group Geostat ("SGS Geostat ") is the qualified person under NI 43-101 standards, which supervised the preparation of the resource estimate. Aline Leclerc (geo) and Vice-President Exploration of Matamec, qualified person under NI 43-101 standards for the project Zeus, oversaw the preparation of the scientific and technical information. Together, they have verified the information in this press release.

      Winter 2010-2011 Drilling Program

Matamec announced on December 2nd 2010, that a 2,700-metre NQ calibre drilling campaign was underway on the heavy rare earths-yttrium-zirconium Kipawa deposit, located on the Zeus property. As of January 19th 2011, 23 drill holes were drilled. Additional information will be published soon regarding the progress of the winter 2011 drilling program.

The main goal of the present drilling program is to increase the quality of resources so that the majority can be categorized as indicated. The new drill holes, combined with those from the previous two drill campaigns, will also supply sufficient material (several hundred kilograms for each zone) to complete more involved metallurgical tests.

      Metallurgical Work

On October 18th 2010, Matamec reported improved rare earth leach recoveries from ore samples collected at its REE-Y Kipawa deposit. Under the supervision of Les Heymann (P.Eng.), whole rock material from the Eudialyte zone was processed at SGS Lakefield Research, yielding rare earth leach recoveries of 89.2%. The heavy rare earth yield was 85.6%.

The sample consisted of a composite of all 30 drill holes from the fall 2009 drilling campaign in the Eudialyte Zone. These values were achieved by a proprietary process developed by the company which greatly reduces the formation of silica gel. Only 0.9% of the silica present went into solution during the tests, resulting in an easily filtered material. The company is confident that a low cost processing solution has been found.

Other tests have followed this first series and Matamec is expecting new results on tests made with concentrates from the Eudialyte zone.

PEA Study - Engineering firm Roche

A PEA Study is being prepared by the "Mine and Mineral Processing" team of the engineering firm Roche to assist Matamec in the development of its rare earths-yttrium-zirconium Zeus project. The team will consist of professionals experts known in the mining industry (see September 9, 2010, press release). As soon as the resource calculation is updated and more advanced results of the metallurgical tests are received, the preliminary economic assessment study can be completed.

Magnets and phosphors - Our Niche

Although the Kipawa deposit contains all rare earth elements, it consists of about 33% of heavy rare earths and yttrium. Since the global reserves of heavy rare earths are presently very limited, Matamec has identified the magnet and phosphor markets as potential niches for its prospective product, both heavy consumers of those elements. At present, the price for 99% pure heavy rare earth oxides is 520$/kg for Tb2O3, 300$/kg for Dy2O3 and 70$/kg for Y2O3 (see Matamec's June 17th press release).

According to Roskill and IMCOA (November 2010), the demand for magnets should have a growth rate of 10% to 15% between 2010 and 2015. Therefore, the demand for rare earth elements used in the production of these magnets is predicted to grow from 26,000 tonnes in 2010 to 48,000 tonnes in 2015. As regards to the phosphors, the predicted growth rate is from 6% to 10%, thus increasing the demand from 8,500 tonnes in 2010 to 13,000 tonnes in 2015.

Concurrently with the increase in demand, China's commerce ministry has consistently announced since August 2009 reductions in export quotas for rare earth metals. According to a New York Times article, "China's commerce ministry announced on (December 28th) in Beijing a steep reduction in export quotas for rare earth metals in the first months of (2011)." Since China currently produces 97-99% of rare earths available on the market, the prices for these elements have significantly increased. The table below illustrates the evolution of prices for selected rare earth oxides and yttrium since October 2009:

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 40.938.984 von FaxenClown am 27.01.11 20:17:29... ne mal im Ernst:

Die Results sind - mal grob drüber geguckt - schwer einschätzbar. Ein gutes und ein mäßigbes Bohrloch mit 0,6 bis"1,5+x"%TREO, 30-40% HREO (Y-Gehalt=?, also Blackbox) und die Unsicherheit, dass es am Ende nur 1,60001% TREO sind.

Wäre also "vom Mix her" mit folgenden Lagerstätten vergeichbar:

      Lagerstätte; HREO+MREO+Y HREO+Y; Y; HREO-Y;
      Kishkek Kutessay II (Stans Energy; RUU) ; 54,17% 45,16% 26,69% 18,47%
      Strange Lake (QRM) 49,70% 44,19% 31,01% 13,18%
      Benjamin River (GWG) ; 30,79% 23,31% 16,34% 6,97%
      Dubbo (ALK) ; 25,50% 21,10% 15,83% 5,27%

Matamec Intersects 1.22% TREO Over 28.8 Metres on its Kipawa HREO-Y-Zr Deposit

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 02/17/11 -- Matamec Explorations Inc. (TSX VENTURE: MAT) ("Matamec") is pleased to announce that assay results have been received for a further four DDH on its 2010-2011 diamond drilling program on the Kipawa HREE-Y-Zr deposit in western Quebec.

This drill program started on December 1st 2010 and ended on February 8th 2011 for a total of 3,332 meters drilled. Its main objective was the improvement of resource quality, moving the majority of inferred resources into the indicated category.

Of the 42 DDH of the campaign, full results have been received for the first 13 holes (see the January 27th and February 10th press releases), and partial results have now been received for a further 4 DDH. Mineralized intervals for the three best holes are presented below (see Table 1 and Figure 1). All three are well mineralized with both eudialyte and Mosandrite, with KM96 and KM98 actually replacing the previous contenders for second and third best holes ever drilled on the property in terms of grade multiplied by thickness (titles previously held by KM14 and KM61, respectively).

Andre Gauthier, Matamec's president, comments that: "To my mind, these holes clearly show the continuity of the high-grade core of the deposit. KM96 and KM98, in particular, fill up the apparent gap that existed between our high-grade KM14 and KM61 holes. It's what our geos predicted, but it's still very nice to see it come true!"

[ Tabelle 1 ausgelassen! Macht auf WO keinen Sinn! ]

The drilling results set out above are preliminary, as some of the REE and zirconium analyses exceeded the limits of the analytical methods (marked by a "greater than " in the table). Full results will be released when they become available.

Upon receipt of final 2010-2011 assay results, a new 43-101 resource estimate will be completed by SGS Geostat using the new data. Matamec's next drilling campaign on the Zeus property, set to begin in spring 2010, will aim to better define the extensions of the deposit.

      QAQC procedures

Matamec maintains a quality control program conforming to the industry's best practices. The NQ core is split, with one half kept as a witness at our Val d'Or facilities. Samples are then submitted in batches of 25, each containing two known standards and one blank, to the ALS Chemex ("ALS") preparation facility in Val d'Or where the samples are reduced to pulps and couriered to ALS in Vancouver (B.C.) for analysis. The samples are dissolved using a lithium metaborate fusion before being analysed by ICP-MS methods on a 2 gram sample size, with overlimits handled either by ICP-MS on a dilute solution, in the case of rare earths, or by XRF, in the case of zirconium. The samples and core are managed in a secure location until delivered to ALS. ALS maintains ISO 17025 certification, the highest accreditation available for QA/QC.

Matamec Yields Overall Recoveries of Rare Earths of About 81% from Eudialyte Zone of the Kipawa Deposit

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/08/11 -- Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company")(TSX VENTURE: MAT) is pleased to announce the results of its metallurgical test work to recover of the rare earth and zirconium values from the Eudialyte zone of its Kipawa deposit on the Zeus property.

A physical method developed at SGS Mineral Services laboratory in Lakefield, Ontario has been able to concentrate 92.8% of the yttrium values into 52.8% of the original ore mass. This method incorporates the use of dry permanent magnetic separation technology and eliminates the use of an expensive dewatering step. Work is continuing to optimize this process and further reduce operating costs. The concentration step combined with Matamec's proprietary leaching method yields overall recoveries of Rare Earths of about 81%.

Andre Gauthier, president of Matamec notes that "these tests are part of Matamec's strategy to come up with a way to find a low-cost process for rare earths in order to be able to compete with the way heavy rare earths are currently exploited. These recent metallurgical tests have increased our confidence, and thus we will accelerate the pace to meet Matamec's timetable. The high value Kipawa deposit could be developed in a timely, compact and inexpensive fashion."

Les Heymann (P.Eng) is Matamec's Qualified Person for this press release.

Matamec Intersects 0.73% TREO (40% HREO+Y2O3) Over 18.8 Metres on its Kipawa HREO-Y-Zr Deposit

MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/24/11 -- Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec")(TSX VENTURE: MAT) is pleased to announce that assay results have been received for a further seventeen DDH on its 2010-2011 diamond drilling program on the Kipawa HREE-Y-Zr deposit in western Quebec. All preliminary results for this campaign have now been received.

The drill program started on December 1, 2010 and ended on February 8, 2011 for a total of 3,332 meters drilled. Its main objective was to upgrade the resource, moving the majority of inferred resources into the indicated category.

Of the 42 DDH of the campaign, full results have been received for the first 13 holes (see the January 27th and February 10th press releases), and partial results have been received for a further 29 DDH, including this last batch of 17 DDH. Mineralized intervals for the best 8 holes of the latest batch are presented below (see Table 1 and Figure 1). All are well mineralized with both eudialyte and mosandrite.

Andre Gauthier, Matamec's president, comments that: "Overall, we've received much better grades than expected in the West Zone, which we're confident will increase our metal tonnage, and we've roughly maintained the grade and tonnage we had in the Central and East Zones. All that and indicated resources over the majority of the deposit makes for a very successful winter 2010-2011 campaign on the Kipawa deposit of the Zeus property."

July 2011 Updates To The TMR Advanced Rare-Earth Projects Index

by Gareth Hatch on July 15, 2011 · 0 comments

      in Rare Earths,Tools & Metrics

      http://www.techmetalsresearch.com/2011/07/july-2011-updates-…

Since our last update note (which was two months ago now), there have been significant updates to the data for two projects on the TMR Advanced Rare-Earth Projects Index, and changes to two others:

Rare Element Resources Ltd. (TSX.V:RES, AMEX:REE) published an updated mineral-resource estimate on June 14, 2011. 4.44 Mt of the resource is now Indicated @ 3.77 wt% TREO, and 16.16 Mt is now Inferred, @ 3.03 wt% TREO (both at a cut-off grade of 1.5%). The associated data have been updated accordingly.

Matamec Explorations Inc. (TSX.V:MAT, PK:MTCEF) published an updated mineral-resource estimate on June 30, 2011. 12.472 Mt of the resource is now Indicated @ 0.51 wt% TREO, and 3.842 Mt is now Inferred @ 0.46 wt% TREO (both at a cut-off grade of 0.3%). The associated data have been updated accordingly.

Kimberley Rare Earths (ASX:KRE) is looking to become a JV partner on the Cummins Range project with Navigator Resources (ASX:NAV).

      Korea Resources Corp. i
s now involved with the Zandkopsdrift project owned by Frontier Rare Earths Ltd. (TSX.V:FRO, PK:FREFF). Details have yet to be finalized, but this development is now reflected in the associated details for this project.

FYI, TMR is now tracking a total of 381 rare-earth development projects associated with 244 different companies in 35 different countries.

I have updated the pricing used in the Index data, to reflect the average monthly prices for June 2011 and the moving three-year average price for separated rare-earth oxides.

You can access the details via the Index page.

positive erwähnung in einem interview - link gefunden in stockhouse
      http://www.businessinsider.com/rick-mills-juniors-plan-today…

High concentrate levels make it easier for a junior to get above a 98% REO. A 98% oxide might pull $38/kg., but a 98.9% or a 99% concentrate is worth $80–$100/kg. It is very difficult to make a 98% oxide out of a 40%–45% concentrate source and even more time consuming and costly to make a +98% oxide. The higher you start, the easier it is to finish higher than the normal 98% oxide.

Matamec Improves Economics of Kipawa Deposit With Metallurgy...
      http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/369134

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 21, 2011) - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec") or the "Company"(TSX VENTURE:MAT) is pleased to announce that it is now able to produce a pre-concentrate containing 90% of the contained yttrium in only 35% of the original ore mass of the Kipawa Deposit. This is significant in lowering the amount of acid required downstream and consequently lowering the operating cost of the project.

Furthermore, the optimisation of Matamec's straightforward proprietary leaching method has dramatically reduced the amount of heat, acid, water and time required in solubilising the rare earths. Seven leach tests utilizing this proprietary method have been completed to date resulting in an excellent overall REE recovery of 88%, and an even higher 89% recovery for HREE+Y.

Since the start of the test work program in March 2010 at SGS Minerals Services, Matamec has been focused on both the pre-concentration and the leaching processes for treating the unique coarse grained eudialyte ore. Matamec believes that a combination of these two steps is vital in developing a successful, low-cost rare earth project

Timely for early 2016 but looking to fast track

      http://www.oredressingplant.com/ore-beneficiation/

      http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/innovation-metals-co…

      http://www.raremetalblog.com/2011/04/lynas-alkane-talking-co…

      Russian Journal of Applied Chemistry
      Volume 76, Number 10, 1559-1563, DOI: 10.1023/B:RJAC.0000015712.10513.94

      http://www.springerlink.com/content/q2412623772447v8/

Rare Earth Mining Innovations: Anthony Mariano
      The Gold Report | Dec. 13, 2011, 3:00 AM

      [...]

TCMR: So the monazite sands that now look like opportunities for REE extraction would have to be in relatively remote places. Would you like to discuss eudialyte now?

AM: Eudialyte is an attractive, potential source of heavy rare earth elements (HREEs). The name eudialyte is taken from the Greek and means "easily dissolved." In composition, it is a complex sodium calcium zirconosilicate that can include substantial HREEs. Active exploration for acceptable grade and tonnage is happening in Kipawa, Quebec and at Nora Kärr, in Sweden.

TCMR: Kipawa is the project by Matamec Explorations Inc. (MAT:TSX.V; MRHEF:OTCQX), correct?

AM: Yes, and Norra Kärr is Tasman Metals Ltd.'s (TSM:TSX.V; TAS:NYSE.A; TASXF:OTCPK; T61:FSE) project. In these two areas, the HREE in eudialyte ranges approximately 4-7wt%. Despite the high solubility of eudialyte in weak acids, the isolation of zirconium silicate, yttrium oxide and the REOs from the resultant solutions have resisted the separation of intimately associated silica gels. That's been the problem. Matamec and Tasman are experimenting in the economic chemical processing of eudialyte and making innovative progress.

TCMR: Are these deposits very large?

AM: Some of them are quite substantial, in excess of 10 million tons (Mt) of >0.1 wt% REO. Eudialyte in these deposits would be 4-7wt% REE substituting in the eudialyte structure.

TCMR: Do you see monazite sands and eudialyte as potential game changers in REEs?

AM: Yes, I see that in both monazite beach sands and eudialyte. Another related type of deposit occurs in Brazil in river and streambeds.

      TCMR: What about Matamec?

JH: Interestingly, Matamec also seems to have that eudialyte metallurgy I mentioned, and it’s in mining-friendly Québec. In December 2011, Matamec signed a memo of understanding (MOU) with Toyota Tsusho Group (TYHOF:OTCPK). The trading unit of Asia’s largest auto maker, Toyota Tsusho has agreed to buy Matamec’s output from its Kipawa mine deposit—which is in many ways similar to Ucore’s Bokan Mountain deposit—to fast-track development of Kipawa’s rare earth metals production. Kipawa isn’t a big deposit; it’s quite compact. I think that’s what the end-users are looking for, not the projects with capital expenditures approaching $1 billion (B). They like compact projects with excellent infrastructure, favorable metallurgy and geopolitical support.

That was the lesson we learned with the Australian REE company, Lynas Corp. (LYC:ASX). Look at the gray hairs Lynas has given shareholders for being in a risky political jurisdiction. Alaska is extremely supportive of Ucore.

Matamec Receives Third Payment from Toyotsu Rare Earth Canada

Montreal, December 4, 2012 - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Company has received a third payment of 263,887 CDN from its Japanese partner Toyotsu Rare Earth Canada Inc. (“TRECan”), a subsidiary of Toyota-Tsusho Corp. (“TTC”).

Under the terms of the Joint Venture Agreement (“JVA”) by which TRECan can acquire 49% undivided interest in the Kipawa HREE Deposit, Matamec received 8.5M CDN for the first 25%undivided interest on July 18, 2012. To acquire the second 24% undivided interest, TRECan has to pay to Matamec a maximum amount of 7.5M CDN. The 263,887 CDN is the second of a number of successive payments in completion of the 7.5M CDN, but the third overall payment received from TRECan. Matamec will transfer the 24% undivided interest to TRECan when it will receive a cumulative maximum amount of 7.5M CDN.

To date Matamec has received $10,147,550 CDN of the maximum $16M CDN for the completion of a definitive feasibility study on the Kipawa HREE deposit, which are expected in the second quarter of 2013.

”This agreement secures a heavy REE supply for the production and marketing of hybrid vehicles and adds significant tangible value to Matamec. TRECan is a well-recognized strategic partner that has committed $16M to Matamec to complete a definitive feasibility study; and signing an agreement to buy 100% of a mixed rare earths concentrate,” said Andre Gauthier, President and CEO of Matamec Explorations. TRECan also brings intangible value including a mutual collaboration to accelerate the development of the Kipawa HREE deposit and technical assistance through the worldwide Toyota Network”.

      "MATAMEC

On February 11, I received a letter stating that we had until March 4 to present to Canadian environmental Assessment Agency to provide our views on the potential impacts of the Kipawa Rare Earth Project on our community and that our comments will be considered in the Agency’s decision of whether an environmental assessment of the Project is re-quired. See the attached document of what was sent on the impacts and the reason why we are requesting an environmental assessment. As of now the Kipawa Rare Earth Project does not qualify under the Quebec environmental assessment because of the tonnage that will be produced per day, so Eagle Village and Wolf Lake presented a joint response to this letter.

In addition, I have attached the outcome overview of their work plan to date.

Prof Christian Ekberg, Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden:

"The Mountain Pass mine was closed down for environmental reasons.

There are rare earths deposits that are troublesome, those containing sulphur and those containing radioactive substances such as uranium and thorium, and mining these elements in many countries is considered difficult to handle."

Another issue is recycling rare earth elements, getting them out of old handsets and PCs - something known as e-waste,
      said Prof Ekberg.

"There is very little recycling done, it's not even 1%. If you want to recycle these elements from a smartphone, it's very tricky as the concentration is extremely low, so it is very difficult to get them out," he said.

"Also, it's very difficult to separate them from each other because they are so chemically similar.

At the moment, there are no really good environmentally friendly methods available to mine and to recycle rare earths, so economically, today recycling is not viable.

But as the techniques improve, recycling will be very important in the future - so it is important right now to do the research."

Matamec EA participants to get incentive from CEAA

      2013-06-03 14:12 ET - News Release

Ms. Sofie McCoy-Astell of the CEAA reports

KIPAWA RARE EARTHS PROJECT - FEDERAL FUNDING AVAILABLE

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making available funding to support participation of the public and aboriginal groups in the federal environmental assessment of the Kipawa rare earths project located in Quebec.

Funding will be provided to eligible individuals and groups to enable their participation in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment such as consultation related to the environmental impact statement and consultation on the draft environmental assessment report.

Applications received by July 3, 2013, will be considered. Recipients and the amount of funding allocated will be announced at a later date.

To apply for funding, or for more information on the project and the environmental assessment process, visit the agency's website (registry reference No. 80029) or contact the Participant Funding Program by e-mail or by calling 1-866-582-1884.

As part of the strengthened and modernized Canadian Environmental Assessment Act 2012 put in place to support the government's Responsible Resource Development Initiative, the agency is conducting a federal environmental assessment of this project.

This project is being assessed using a science-based approach. If the project is permitted to proceed to the next phase, it will continue to be subject to Canada's strong environmental laws, rigorous enforcement and follow-up, and increased fines.

      The proposed project

Matamec Explorations proposes the construction, operation and decommissioning of a rare earths open-pit mine about 40 kilometres east of the municipality of Kipawa. The proposed project would process 1.5 million tonnes of ore per year over a 13-year operation period with a daily average extraction rate of 4,200 tonnes. The concentrate would be shipped by train and then by boat to Asian or European refineries. The proposed project would also include the construction of a concentrator, as well as ancillary buildings such as storage, a laboratory and administrative offices.

      Int'l Speculator refreshes Matamec buy

      2013-04-22 18:40 ET - In the News

The International Speculator, in its April 4, 2013, issue, refreshes its buy of Andre Gauthier's Matamec Explorations Inc. at 19 cents, officially, "Hold/buy first tranche/prepare stink bid." The newsletter said buy on Feb. 6, 2013, at 17 cents. Assuming an investment of $1,000, the buy is worth $1,107. The writer notes that Matamec's feasibility study on the Kipawa heavy rare-earth project at Temiscaming, Que., remains on schedule for completion at the end of second-quarter 2013. He says metallurgical results has solved "major choke points," but offers no further details. Matamec has $3-million in cash, but it is mainly using "OPM," an insiderish reference to other people's money. The Kipawa deposit contains 63,850 tonnes of total rare-earth oxide (TREO) in the NI 43-101 indicated category and 17,780 tonnes in the inferred category, at a cut-off of 0.3 per cent TREOs. Though market interest in rare-earth companies has fallen, the writer thinks Matamec is trading at a fraction of any reasonable valuation. The risk is a policy reversal on REE exports in China and economic woes generally.

The analysts expect limited upside in the next few years and some producers will have to operate below capacity for a period of time in order to prevent a growing surplus. “We also believe that the respective basket prices will diverge over time, with light REE trading close to cost support and heavy REE benefiting from scarcity prices,” the report continues.

In 2011, the light REE basket averaged $706/kg. In 2012 that came back to $463/kg and Goldman estimates the average for 2013 will be $232/kg. But 2014, 2015 and 2016 will not be much better, with forecasts of $243/kg over those three years. The LREE basket comprises lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium and europium.

As for the heavy REE, the basket hit $1,027/kg in 2011, came back to $785/kg last year and will be an estimated $432/kg this year. But gradual improvement is seen: $475/kg for 2014, $499/kg in 2015 and $524/kg in 2016.Incidentally, the HREE basket is based on only gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium and yttrium; lack of pricing data meant Goldman had to exclude holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and lutetium.

As for the HREE, Goldman Sachs believes that the high prices of these elements “will induce (a) additional demand destruction via thrifting and substitution in applications such as magnets and/or (b) new production capacity to come on line, assuming project developers can develop the appropriate technologies to process heavy REE deposits on a commercial basis.”

Matamec’s Kipawa REE project proceeds toward 2016 production with support from partner Toyota

Posted on August 13, 2013 by Alessandro Bruno

Matamec Explorations Inc. (“Matamec”, TSXV: MAT | OTCQX: MHREF), on August 8, announced the receipt of USD$ 565,769 from its Japanese partner Toyotsu Rare Earth Canada, Inc. (“TRECan”), a subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corp. (“TTC”) as part of the final payment of just over CAD$ 16 million to fund a definitive feasibility study (FS) for the Kipawa rare earths deposit. Under the terms of the Joint Venture Agreement, with the final payment received, TRECan will now acquire a 49% undivided interestin the Kipawa JV Property. Matamec “is the only rare earth exploration company to have received funds to accelerate and complete a feasibility study and an environmental and social impact assessment study of a HREE deposit”.

The results of the feasibility study will be announced on September 4. This will be an important achievement, considering the difficulties that many emerging rare earth companies have been facing in order to reach this stage. Matamec has shown the importance of securing partnerships, whether in the form of an off-take agreement or other forms of cooperation, with influential industry players in order to advance investment and technology intensive mining projects as are those involving rare earths. Matamec is unique in that it is the only rare earths company to have signed a major automotive manufacturer as a joint venture partner with a guaranteed sale of its products for the duration of the mine, estimated at 13 years. Clearly, this has greatly reduced Matamec’s economic risk. TTC considers the Kipawa deposit as an essential source of HREE to build hybrid vehicles, an area in which the parent company Toyota has placed a great deal of its future growth prospects.

The actual amount of rare earths used in hybrid vehicles is small; however, these elements are absolutely crucial for the manufacturing of the magnets, superconductors, catalysts and batteries that are increasingly used in hybrid and electric vehicles. HREE’s are making it possible to reduce battery weight, dimensions while increasing their power in conjunction with developments in battery charging technology that will drive demand for EV’s and hybrids over the next few years. Demand for rare earths could soon exceed supply, given that China produces 97% of these critical metals and is tightening the reins on exports.

Matamec specializes in the development of heavy rare earths in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario but the focus has been its Kipawa project in Quebec. The partnership with Toyotsu is ensuring that production stage will be reached by 2016. Toyotsu has agreed to buy all metals produced at the Kipawa property. In March 2012, Matamec decided to skip the ‘preliminary feasibility study’ phase – in view of a favorable preliminary economic assessment – and move directly to the full FS. Meanwhile, Matamec has already started metallurgical tests, including the construction of a pilot test facility. Last April, Matamec announced the discovery of new REE zones, bringing the total number on the property to 12. The property includes HREE’s and some niobium (Nb). Niobium has a number of applications but in the automotive sector it is especially desired for its steel strengthening qualities and used to make the future ‘high strength low alloys’ to enable manufacturers to reduce weight and, therefore, lower fuel consumption. Moreover, as rare earths expert Jack Lifton noted a few years ago, the Toyota Prius is the “biggest user of rare earths of any object in the world,” including a kilo (2.2 lb) of neodymium (Nd) in the electric motor and 10 to 15 kg (22-33 lb) of lanthanum (La) in the battery pack. The higher the desired fuel efficiency, or duration of the electric charge, the more Nd and La would be required.

The partnership has enabled Matamec to overcome the financial hurdle of funding the FS, which will determine whether to proceed,or not, with construction; a ‘yes’ decision would see production starting by the second half of 2016 as scheduled. Matamec will then join Lynas and Molycorp as one of the few companies outside China able to supply high-quality rare metals. This will be no small feat, given the difficulties faced by other exploration companies in achieving project targets. Matamec has other exploration activities as well; it holds seven other sites in Quebec and Ontario, all located in well-mineralized zones, featuring gold, silver, other minerals, as well as rare earths. However, these projects are in the early stages and the Kipawa Project remains its main activity.

A bit further down the road is Namibia Rare Earths Inc. (NRE:TSX, NMREF.OTCQX). Having access to a refinery is key, especially for HREE projects.

Matamec Explorations (TSXV: MAT) took a hit after the Montreal-based explorer published a feasibility study for its Kipawa joint-venture heavy rare earth elements project near Rouyn-Noranda, Que. Its shares dropped 33%, or 8.5¢, to close at 17¢, despite the study showing the project is technically and economically viable.

Kipawa is envisioned as a 3,653 tonne per year open pit operation producing 1,516 tonnes of heavy rare earth concentrate, plus 2,137 tonnes of light rare earth concentrate each year. The deposit, located on the Zeus property, has reserves of 19.77 million tonnes with a diluted total rare earth oxide grade of 0.41% and an estimated mine life of 15.2 years. The initial cost to construct Kipawa is $374 million, including a 15% contingency. Matamec owns 51% of the project and its partner Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TTC) holds the remainder.

While the start-up costs are 18% higher than the $315.8 million estimated in a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) published in March 2012, the total operating expenditures dropped 13% to $21.53 per kilogram of mixed rare earths thanks to the optimization work the junior conducted over the year.

But what may have disappointed investors is the difference in the project’s economics compared to that of the PEA. The latest study demonstrates Kipawa has a net present value (NPV) of $260 million and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 21.6% using a 10% discount rate, on a pre-tax basis. The PEA estimated a pre-tax NPV of $500 million and a pre-tax IRR of 36.9%, using the same discount rate.

“The IRR and NPV are lower than previously but the prices they used for the lights [light rare earth elements] particularly are below current estimated spot price,” Luisa Moreno, an analyst at Euro Pacific Canada, writes in an email.

“The economics are not the best ever seen for a mining project, but the fact that they were able to produce a positive feasibility using modest LREE prices is pretty good,” she adds.

Edward Miller, the company’s director of investor relations, notes the IRR has dropped from when the company did the PEA a year ago mainly due to the sluggish prices for rare earths. “The rare earth pricing this year has fallen from the 2011 highs and hit a low. It has started to rebound over the last couple of months…but that really lowered the IRR.”

That said Miller points out there are several opportunities that could bolster Kipawa’s economics, including building a second pilot plant, where further testwork could help improve recovery rates. He says there is also potential room for improvement in the open-pit design.

“It is a very high quality deposit and there is significant upside to bring the IRR well above 25% pretax,” he reckons.

On an after-tax basis, the feasibility indicates Kipawa has a 16.8% IRR and a $128 million NPV using a 10% discount, whereas the PEA didn’t disclose Kipawa’s after-tax numbers.

Asked what challenges lie ahead at Kipawa, Miller says: “The rare earth pricing just has to continue going up, which we are seeing, and if that continues that would be very positive.

“So certainly the rare earth demand, pricing and to have the opportunity to complete the second pilot plant and get that to be able to communicate the recovery process and higher recovery rates,” he adds. Kipawa has a total recovery rate of 70%.

Looking at its to-do list, Matamec intends to finish the second pilot plant shortly, followed by the release of an environmental and social impact study early next year. In 2014, the junior also plans to explore financing options for the project, noting TTC would be responsible for footing nearly half the bill. Matamec intends to start building the mine in early 2015, with start-up anticipated in late 2016.

The company currently has about $4.5 million in its till, which it says should be enough to finish the second pilot plant and forthcoming study.

      Luisa Moreno:

"I cover Matamec Explorations Inc. (MAT:TSX.V; MRHEF.OTCQX). We have a Speculative Buy recommendation for $0.22/share. Matamec is one of the most developed companies in the REE junior mining space. The company is developing the Kipawa deposit in Quebec, which contains the HREE-enriched eudialyte mineral. Matamec has completed its bankable feasibility study and is optimizing its flow sheet.

Matamec has a collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Group (TYHOF.OTCPK), a partner that is co-funding the development of the project and is providing technical support. Matamec expects to complete optimization in H1/14 and start working on the financing to build the mine and processing facilities.

Because this project reaches into the HREEs, it will give Toyota and potentially other end-users a supply of elements in addition to the light rare earth elements (LREEs). It should be noted that Molycorp and Lynas both produce predominantly LREEs, and do not refine individual HREEs."

Matamec Gives an Update on the Investment Project of $4 Mill

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2014) - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company")(TSX VENTURE:MAT)(OTCQX:MHREF) is issuing today an update on the investment project of $4 million CAD by Resources Québec ("RQ") in the HREE Kipawa, announced by the Company on April 2(nd) .

In the decree of March 5(th) , the government of Quebec highlights the economic and technological importance of the Kipawa rare earths project. It mandates Investissement Québec, through its subsidiary Ressources Québec inc., to subscribe to $1 million CAD in Matamec equity and a minority stake of $3 million CAD in the HREE Kipawa deposit. This investment is part of an investment project of $6 million CAD in which Matamec will invest $2 million CAD.

Matamec announces that it now holds a 100% interest in the HREE Kipawa deposit. Starting today, various business opportunities that have been explored in the past, are now possible. Adding a financial partner like RQ and having the support of the government of Quebec are particularly important in the development of rare earth mining project located in Témiscamingue.

The investment project of RQ is currently in the due-diligence phase. It includes the normal steps of such a process. It also includes the negotiation of a joint venture agreement between RQ and Matamec, to enable RQ to have a minority stake in the Kipawa rare earths deposit.

TRECan Converts its 49% Interest into a 10% NPI Royalty

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2014) - Matamec Explorations Inc. ("Matamec" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:MAT)(OTCQX:MHREF) announced today the signature of a Termination and Release Agreement between the Company and Toyotsu Rare Earth, Inc. Now, Matamec will own 100% interest of the HREE Kipawa Deposit.

Matamec and TRECan JVA on the HREE Kipawa Deposit
