Health care company plummets after lowering full-year guidance.

Inverness Medical Innovations suprised Wall Street Tuesday with a guidance cut, and the reaction was a swift drop, with shares losing a fifth of their value.
During the course of Inverness Medical Innovations' ( IMA - news - people ) presentation Tuesday at the Jefferies Global Life Sciences Conference, the company lowered its full-year-earnings guidance to $2.60 per share, from $2.90 per share. The company cited 15 cents of the shortfall coming from a weaker-than-expected flu season, 7 cents from the decline of the euro, and 4 cents due to greater-than-expected spending on research and development among the reasons for the cut.
The announcement was a surprise to the market, leading shares of Inverness to slide 20%, or $6.81, to $27.25, in afternoon trading. Since the beginning of the year the company's stock is down 32.6%.

Roche Diagnostics anticipates faster growth in China - Daniel O'Day, COO of Roche Diagnostics

Shanghai. May 13. INTERFAX-CHINA - Roche Diagnostics expects its business in China to grow rapidly due to continued government investment into health care infrastructure, Roche Diagnostics' chief operating officer (COO) told Interfax in a recent interview in Shanghai.
"We hope China will become Roche Diagnostics' fifth largest market based on sales revenue over the next few years, up from eighth largest in 2009," Daniel O'Day said.
Roche Diagnostics first set up its subsidiary in China, Roche Diagnostics (Shanghai) Ltd., in August 2000 and the company has in recent years experienced sales growth of close to 50 percent year-on-year.
This growth is expected to continue as China begins investing heavily in health care infrastructure until 2012 under the national health care reform, O'Day said.
Roche Diagnostics is the biggest player in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) market, both in China and globally. It currently has a 20 percent share of the global IVD market.
According to O'Day, a comprehensive portfolio of innovative products, technological know-how and strong automated laboratory analyzer sales have allowed the company to achieve its dominant position. Its clients range from medical institutions and laboratories to academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies.

Roche Diagnostics' presence extends to all major IVD product areas, including clinical chemistry, immunoassay, molecular diagnostics, diabetes care and tissue diagnostics as well as new technological applications like sequencing and cellular analysis. The test identifies patients suitable for Herceptin treatment, an antibody treatment for breast and stomach tumors which exhibit high HER2 levels, and provides doctors with information to help them prescribe appropriate medication, thereby improving treatment efficiency.

At present the company is in the process of registering the HER2 test with the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), Wong Fatt Heng, general manager of Roche Diagnostics Shanghai, told Interfax.
The company aims to improve testing and medical efficiencies as part of its strategy for China and the global market, O'Day added.
Automated systems which improve the efficiency of medical care by enabling a large number of samples to be analyzed in a short period will be critical to the development of China's health care infrastructure as its population increases, according to O'Day.
"As cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancers become more common in China, we are also seeing an increase in the use of more medically efficient tests, for instance, Roche Diagnostics' NT-proBNP test for heart failure," he said.

The NT-proBNP test enables doctors to accurately diagnose heart failure, a condition that has often been misdiagnosed, according to a Roche Diagnostics' announcement on May 12. In addition, the test can help doctors determine if patients need to be hospitalized and when they are fit to be discharged, thus freeing up hospital resources.
A recent study conducted by the American Journal of Cardiology demonstrates that use of the NT-proBNP test can lead to a 58 percent drop in cardiac ultrasound tests and a 12 percent reduction in the duration of hospitalizations.

More than 80 percent of Roche Diagnostics' products are currently sold in the Chinese market and the company intends to introduce more.
The biggest challenge for Roche Diagnostics in China is in retaining a talented and motivated workforce," O'Day said, adding that Roche Diagnostics Shanghai has seen a 25 percent increase in staff in recent years.
Roche Diagnostics Shanghai now has more than 700 employees, and plans to hire 100 more before the end of this year.

Roche Diagnostics and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) have begun a collaboration to develop a peer-reviewed biomarkers clinical resource web portal.
Initially, the collaborative resource will include collections of case studies by leading experts and peer-reviewed journal articles. Point of care troponin decreases time in the emergency department for patients with possible acute coronary syndrome: a randomised controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of cardiac troponin I testing with a point-of-care (POC) device versus central laboratory on length of stay (LOS) in emergency department (ED) patients presenting with possible acute coronary syndromes (ACS). METHODS: A 12-week randomised controlled trial at two metropolitan ED in eastern Australia with a combined annual census of 80,000. Participants were all patients presenting with possible ACS. Exclusions were a diagnosis of ACS before arrival, ST elevation and failure to wait for complete assessment. Randomisation was by week when POC was made available. Primary outcome was LOS from patient arrival to physical departure from the ED. The proportion of patients meeting a government target of less than 8 h stay was compared. Analysis was by intention to treat. RESULTS: Despite underutilisation of POC, LOS was shorter during weeks when it was available. The time savings translates into approximately 48 minutes (95% CI 12 to 84) per average LOS of almost 7 h, which did not reach statistical significance (p=0.063), or an absolute increase of 10% (95% CI 4.3 to 16.6) in the number of people discharged from the ED within the target LOS of less than 8 h, which did reach significance (p=0.007). These savings were more pronounced in the setting without 24 h central laboratory availability. CONCLUSIONS: POC testing for troponin in the ED tended to reduce the LOS for possible ACS patients. The degree of this benefit is likely to be markedly dependent on its acceptance and uptake by attending personnel, and on the ED setting in which it is used.

Cardiac Marker POC Tests Now Widely Used in Hospitals

Cardiac marker point-of-care (POC) tests are now widely used in hospitals and have emerged as a successful model of the concept of point-of-care diagnostics, according to a new market report.

The 2008 world market for POC cardiac enzymes and tests is estimated at US$490 million, and growing at 12% a year for the past three years, according to healthcare market research publisher Kalorama Information (New York, NY, USA). Cardiac markers are specific enzymes or proteins that tend to be concentrated when a cardiac event is likely to occur. Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), CK-MB (creatine kinase, muscle and brain [subunits]), myoglobin, and troponin I/T are the most commonly tested markers. Testing for these markers can effectively indicate when intervention is or is not necessary. Lab-based tests can take up to 24 hours, which has driven demand for the point-of-care products that can deliver “stat” results.

“After many years of tests to prove effectiveness, there has been the stark realization that cardiac markers are useful to rule out or rule in the variety of cardiovascular conditions that are present in an ER [emergency room],” said Shara Rosen, the report’s author.

The leaders in the cardiac enzyme POC market are Inverness’s (Waltham, MA, USA) Triage, Siemens Healthcare’s (Erlangen, Germany) Stratus, and Roche’s (Nutley, NJ, USA) POC systems (Accutrend Plus,
Roche Cardiac 200, Cobas h232). Of all POC testing that occurs in hospitals, cardiac marker tests are the fastest growing segment. Also at least another 20 companies market test strips for all or one of the marker panels. These companies’ rapid tests help physicians triage cardiac patients more quickly.

Point-of-care or decentralized testing has long been the standard of care for glucose, but in other areas, results have been mixed. Products have been utilized, but never in the numbers that were predicted when the technologies were developed. The growth of cardiac markers is one part of a significant trend towards the use of POC tests, which now represent 15 percent of all tests conducted in hospitals.

POC testing has expanded because of studies that demonstrate the clinical effectiveness of these tests and technologic advancements that have increased their accuracy. Barriers Affecting the Adoption of Point-of-Care Technologies Used in Chest Pain Diagnosis Within the UK National Health Service: Part 2-Manufacturer Pricing and Reimbursement Policy Issues

Adoption and implementation of point-of-care testing (POCT) in the UK National Health Service (NHS) for use in the emergency department during chest pain diagnosis are affected by manufacturer pricing and device procurement routes. The study presents the findings of a Web-based survey of UK POCT manufacturers to appraise their pricing policies and device purchase options to show how these could impact on market uptake. The UK-Northern Ireland survey collected information on the device procurement options, prices, and associated costs and from 5 leading manufacturers of cardiac marker point-of-care (POC) devices. These included the Abbott, i-Stat, Biosite Triage, Dade Behring Stratus CS, Response Biomedical RAMP, and Roche Cobas h232. The POCT device manufacturers surveyed offered 3 purchasing routes to market, direct purchase, lease-rental agreement, and free product placement. The latter procurement option was dependent on achieving a mean annual threshold test panel purchase volume of 1000 tests per year. UK NHS procurement policy favors the free product placement option for POC devices. Cardiac marker test panels for POC devices may be supplied in 2 formats, single-test or multiple-test panels. Manufacturers may adopt 1 of 2 strategies for price setting of POC device test panels in the UK market. In the case of 2 manufacturers, Biosite and Dade Behring, the test panel prices are fixed irrespective of the annual purchase volume at £16.85 per panel for the Biosite Triage and £11.02 per panel for the Dade Behring Stratus CS. The test panel price can also be set by a discounted scale based on exceeding the threshold annual purchase volume. Three manufacturers adopted this pricing policy for test panels. These were Abbott, Response Biomedical, and Roche, for the i-Stat, RAMP, and h232 POC devices, respectively. Test panel pricing discounts for the 3 POC devices were as follows: £13.12 per test (1000-2000 tests/year), reduced to £7.12 per test (≥5000 tests/year) for Abbott i-Stat; £9.81 per test (1000 tests/year), reduced to £8.18 per test (≥1000 tests/year) for Response Biomedical RAMP; and £9.18 per test (1000 tests/year), reduced to £5.67/panel (≥1000 tests/year) for the Roche Cobas h232. Other POC device manufacturers could offer a similar discounted pricing policy for test panels, to increase their market presence and to overcome the perceived test cost procurement barrier when introducing POCT more extensively within the NHS. The recently proposed changes to the NHS Pathology tariff are discussed in the context of its likely future impact on UK POC device uptake.

India will account for 60 percent of world’s heart diseases by 2010

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Muscle protein mutation in heart disease, carried by one in a 100 people, is the world’s leading killer. By 2010 India alone will account for 60 percent of the world’s share of such cases.A team of 25 scientists from four countries explained that one percent of the world’s population carries this mutation almost guaranteed to cause heart problems. And most of them come from India.
The mutation, a deletion of 25 letters of genetic code from the heart protein gene MYBPC3, is virtually restricted to people from the Indian subcontinent, afflicting people across all caste, faiths or religious calling.
Heart disease has many causes, some carried in our genes and others linked to our lifestyle, but all seemingly complex, hard to pin down and incompletely understood.

The mutation was discovered five years ago in two Indian families with cardiomyopathy, but its significance only became apparent after almost 1,500 people from many parts of India, some with heart disease and some without, were studied.
Scientists express this genetic risk as an odds ratio, where 1.2 would be a small effect and 2.0 a large one.
For the MYBPC3 mutation, the odds ratio is almost off-scale, a staggering 7.0. Carriers usually show few symptoms until middle age, but after that age most are symptomatic and suffer from a range of effects, at worst sudden cardiac death.

“The mutation leads to the formation of an abnormal protein,” explained the study leader, Kumarasamy Thangaraj from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad.

“Young people can degrade the abnormal protein and remain healthy, but as they get older it builds up and eventually results in the symptoms we see.”
The combination of such a large risk with such a high frequency is, fortunately, unique. “How can such a harmful mutation be so common?” asks Chris Tyler-Smith from The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Hinxton, in Britain. “We might expect such a deleterious change to have ‘died out’.
“We think that the mutation arose around 30,000 years ago in India, and has been able to spread because its effects usually develop only after people have had their children. A case of chance genetic drift: simply terribly bad luck for the carriers,” he added.

“The bad news is that many of these mutation carriers have no warning that they are in danger,” said Perundurai S. Dhandapany from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, “but the good news is that we now know the impact of this mutation”.
The lifetime risk of developing heart failure is roughly one in five for a person aged 40 years. Now that this mutation has been identified, there is a new glimmer of hope for some of them, said a Wellcome Trust release.
The mutation’s effects vary a lot from person to person. Carriers could be identified at a young age by genetic screening and adopt a healthier lifestyle.
And perhaps eventually new drugs could be developed to enhance the degradation of the abnormal protein and postpone the onset of symptoms. There is a market of 60 million people waiting.

In India, One in 25 People Have Gene That Causes Heart Failure

ScienceDaily (June 10, 2010) — One in 25 people from India and other south Asian countries carries a mutated gene that causes heart failure.

Studying this gene, and the protein it encodes, could lead to new treatments for heart failure, Loyola University Health System researcher Sakthivel Sadayappan, PhD, wrote in a recent review article in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology. Sadayappan has studied the gene and protein for 15 years.
Investigating the protein could provide "a better understanding of the mechanics of heart function during health and disease," Sadayappan and first author David Barefield wrote. Barefield is a graduate student and Sadayappan is an assistant professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Physiology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Previous studies by Sadayappan and other researchers found that about 4 percent of people who live in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Malaysia carry the mutation. Carriers have about a 90 percent chance of developing heart failure after age 45.

About 60 million people worldwide, including about 40 million Indians, carry the mutation.
The gene encodes for a protein, called cardiac myosin binding protein-C (cMyBP-C), that is critical for the normal functioning of the heart. In the mutated gene, 25 base pairs (DNA letters) are missing. As a result, the tail end of the protein is altered. Due to this modification, the protein is not properly incorporated into the functioning unit of cardiac muscle called sarcomere. Consequently, the heart does not contract properly.

In younger carriers, the heart can compensate for this defect. But as the person ages, his or her heart is no longer able to compensate. Heart muscle becomes inflamed and does not work well, a condition called cardiomyopathy. The most common manifestation of cardiomyopathy is heart failure -- the heart can't pump enough blood to the rest of the body.

There is no current treatment to prevent heart failure in people who carry the mutated gene. However, a heart-healthy diet and exercise can delay the onset of heart failure, and heart failure drugs can manage symptoms.

Sadayappan said stem cell therapy could be a possible treatment. Stem cells would be taken from a patient's heart, genetically engineered to replace the mutated gene with a healthy gene, and then injected back in the patient's heart. But such stem cell therapy has not been tested. Nor is there a commercial test for the gene, Sadayappan said.

But Sadayappan and other scientists are actively researching how cMyBP-C functions. And improved understanding of this crucial protein, Sadayappan said, could lead to new drugs to treat heart failure.

Laut dem Vertrag, wird das Unternehmen insgesamt 13.333.333 Stammaktien zu je 0,60 CAD ausgeben. Das Unternehmen hat zugestimmt, zwei Vertreter von OrbiMed Advisors zur Wahl zu Mitgliedern im Board of Directors (vergleichbar: Aufsichtsrat) des Unternehmens aufzustellen, sofern OrbiMed oder damit verbundene Unternehmen weiterhin mindestens 5.800.000 Stammaktien des Unternehmens besitzen. naja...neue Aktien nach dem RS findest du eine gute Nachricht?
Ich meine es war eigentlich fast allen klar, dass nach dem RS ein Angebot erfolgen wird, aber zu 0,60 find ich wieder typisch S. Wayne Kay.

Es wird langsam Zeit, das dem Guten endlich mal Beine gemacht werden, am Besten wäre es ihn gleich auszutauschen.

Na,
Willkommen im neuen Thread. Vorweg, bitte nur sachliche und mit Fakten hinterlegte Äusserungen. Jeder kann hier offen seine Meinung und Bedenken äussern. Warum rede ich mir hier alles schön? Bei mir sieht es gut aus und sicherlich sind hier einige sehr sauer die Hoch eingestiegen sind bzw. das der Kurs nach dem Reversesplit nicht die vorrausgeagten Kurs erreicht hat. Ich denke auch, dass wir bis zum Jahresende die 1€ wieder sehen werden, den die neuen Investoren wollen Geld verdienen.

Es geht zwar nicht mehr ständig bergab mit dem Kurs -- aber bei den schwachen Umsätzen überhaupt nicht aussagekräftig----bzw. derart schwache Umsäze lassen erstmal nix Gutes erahnen.

“Continued strong demand for our cardiac products in China resulted in an increase in our clinical products revenue for the quarter. We expect to focus resources during the second half of the year on supporting this market expansion in China and other international markets for our cardiac portfolio.”

Revenue from product sales for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 increased 2% to $2,112,424 from $2,067,194 for the same period in 2009. Clinical products revenue for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 increased 10% to $1,985,675 from $1,805,308 for the same period in 2009. Contract service fees and revenue from collaborative research arrangements for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 decreased 79% to $143,089 compared to $668,221 for the same period in 2009. Total revenue for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 decreased 18% to $2,255,513 compared to $2,735,415 for the same period in 2009.

“We saw modest growth in our revenues from product sales in the second quarter of 2010 as compared to 2009,” said S. Wayne Kay, Chief Executive Officer. “Continued strong demand for our cardiac products in China resulted in an increase in our clinical products revenue for the quarter. We expect to focus resources during the second half of the year on supporting this market expansion in China and other international markets for our cardiac portfolio.”

Operating expenditures for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 decreased 12% to $2,123,585 from $2,413,023 for the same period in 2009. Operating expenditures for the six month period ended June 30, 2010 increased 3% to $4,871,200 from $4,739,360 for the same period in 2009.

For the three and six month periods ended June 30, 2010, the Company reported a loss of $1,868,104 or $0.07 and $4,528,152 or $0.18 per share, respectively, compared to a loss of $1,898,987 or $0.09 and $3,630,402 or $0.19 for the same period in 2009. The marginal decrease in the loss for the three month period ended June 30, 2010 as compared to the same period for the prior year, is attributed to lower operating expenses across all departments and an increase in margin from product sales offset by lower contract service fees and revenue from collaborative research arrangements. The increase in the loss for the six month period ended June 30, 2010 as compared to the same period for the prior year, is the result of significantly lower contract service fees and revenue from collaborative research arrangement in the current year.

As at June 30, 2010, the Company had $543,617 in cash and cash equivalents, a decrease of $4,529,854 compared to $5,073,471 as at December 31, 2009. As at June 30, 2010 the Company had a working capital balance of $3,303,551, a decrease of $3,694,978 compared to $6,998,529 as at December 31, 2009.

Subsequent to the end of the quarter, on July 28, 2010, the Company announced the closing of a private placement of an aggregate of 13,333,333 common shares, at a price of $0.60 per share, to affiliates of OrbiMed Advisors, LP for gross proceeds of approximately $8 million.

apropos Kindergarten.
Wirf nur mal nen kurzen Blick auf den Kurs.....tiefer gehts fast nimmer----und immer noch hofft das Kind in dir?????----Das ist nicht nachvollziehbar.........

Ich glaube in diesem Forum sollte mal ein IQ-Test eingeführt werden, damit solche Schwachmaaten wie Du sich wo anders tummeln
