zahlt höhere dividende als das Original und ist in voraussichtlich besseren Wachstumsmärkten positioniert...

      Wednesday 4 May 2011, 11:27 EST
Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd expects first-half profit to rise five per cent, before significant items, as natural disasters, higher resin prices and the stronger Australian dollar slow earnings growth.

The five per cent rise would be equivalent to about $223 million, compared with $212.7 million reported for the first half of calendar 2010.

The company reports on a calendar year basis.

"The devastating natural disasters, higher resin prices and the impact from the strengthening Australian dollar have all taken the gloss off what was a promising start to the year," chief executive Terry Davis told the company's annual general meeting on Wednesday.

He added that the result would follow the very strong first-half result in calendar 2010.

Shares in Coca-Cola Amatil fell by 21 cents, or 1.77 per cent, to $11.65 by 1022 AEST, the lowest point since March 29.

The first half net profit figure is likely to be equivalent to an increase of six to seven per cent before the impact of currency translation on offshore earnings.

The company said the floods, cyclone and earthquake will take one to two per cent off net profit growth for the half.

Higher PET resin prices, which had risen over 40 per cent in the last six months, would take about two per cent off growth and the stronger Australian dollar would also take one to two per cent off earnings growth.

The company said 2011 would be a peak year for capital expenditure, with expectations of an overall spend of about $375 million.

      AAP – Wed, Feb 22, 2012 2:49 PM AEDT

Beverages supplier Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) says markets in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are its strongest performers, and boosting investments there will be a high priority in 2012.

CCA said on Wednesday that its businesses in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea had generated five consecutive years of very strong growth, boosted by increased manufacturing capability and the distribution of more cold drink coolers.

"The up-weighting of our investment in Indonesia and PNG remains a high priority as the growth outlook for both businesses continues to be favourable," CCA group managing director Terry Davis said.
The Indonesian economy remained buoyant, with the economy expected to grow by more than six per cent in 2012.

In Indonesia, modern convenience stores were opening at a rate of one every five to six hours in major urban centres.

In the last 12 months, more than 25,000 new cold drink coolers were placed in Indonesia, bringing CCA's total in that country to 225,000.

In PNG, new LNG (liquefied natural gas) projects were expected to more than double the size of the country's economy in the next five years.

CCA had opened new manufacturing facilities in PNG and increased the production capability of PET plastic bottles by 100 per cent.

CCA on Wednesday booked an annual net profit of $591.8 million for the 2011 calendar year, up 19 per cent on the prior year.

The result included a $59.8 million gain in significant items.

Net profit before significant items rose five per cent to $532.0 million.

The significant gain of $59.8 million comprised a $170.3 million after-tax profit from the agreement to sell CCA's 50 per cent share of the Pacific Beverages brewing joint-venture to SABMiller in December 2011, less $110.5 million in restructuring and other costs for the SPC Ardmona food business.

Mr Davis described the group's underlying profit result in 2011 as "solid" given a challenging trading environment marked by natural disasters, low consumer confidence, the high Australian dollar and a cool summer.

But he said CCA's overall business could be characterised as staple (staple) rather than discretionary and the group did not experience large swings in volumes and earnings like some other companies.

CCA's result was underpinned by CCA's continued investment in manufacturing and improved customer service levels.

"We've been one of the very few manufacturers in this country that has materially invested in our manufacturing, in our distribution and our group-wide technology platforms," Mr Davis said.

CCA's Australian business was expected to deliver volume and revenue growth in 2012.

"While the weak consumer spending environment in Australia and New Zealand remains a concern, and the persistent poor weather in NSW and Queensland has dampened summer trading, we have a solid promotional program in the lead-up to the Olympics, with Coca-Cola a key sponsor, and we are cycling the impacts of natural disasters and poor weather in 2011," Mr Davis said.

Morningstar analyst Adrian Atkins said CCA's underlying profit was in line with the company's guidance and market expectations.

"The result reconfirms our high opinion of CCA as a well-managed bottler with defensive, growing earnings," Mr Atkins said.

"Indonesia was a bright spot with EBIT (earnings before interest and tax) jumping 17 per cent."

Shares in CCA were four cents lower at $12.07 at 1416 AEDT on Wednesday.

LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Australia's Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd. (CCL.AX), or CCA, said late Sunday that following due diligence it has decided not to proceed with the acquisition of the Foster's Australian spirit and spirit Ready To Drink business.

As part of an agreement to sell its interest in Pacific Beverages to SABMiller Plc (SAB.L, SBMRY.PK), CCA has the right to acquire each of three Foster's businesses including the Foster's Australian spirit and spirit RTD business, the Australian nonalcoholic beverages business and the Fiji Breweries and distillery in Fiji and Samoa.

CCA said a major consideration in the due diligence process was the relative brand health and value of the existing Foster's brands compared to organically developing CCA's Australian spirits and ARTD brand portfolio by leveraging the portfolio of global Beam brands.

Group Managing Director Terry Davis said, 'With a strong pipeline of new Beam products to be launched into the market over the next 12-18 months, CCA has elected not to pursue the acquisition.'

As per CCA's Pacific Beverage sale agreement with SABMiller, CCA expects to receive A$34 million from SABMiller as it has elected not to proceed with the purchase. CCA will use these funds to support its own alcohol growth plan.

CCA had said last month that up to A$200 million could be spent to purchase all three businesses. After deciding not to buy the Australian spirit and spirit RTD business, the aggregate net outlay for the other two Foster's businesses, for which due diligence is underway, is estimated to be A$50 million to A$70 million.

      CCL.AX is currently climbing A$0.01 to A$11.95.

      Coca-Cola Amatil issues earnings warning

      AAP – Tue, May 7, 2013 1:57 PM AEST

Beverage company Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) says its earnings have been hit by heavy discounting on soft drinks.
The company's managing director has also called for more support for Australian fruit producers competing against imported canned fruit.

Lower earnings in the company's Australian business will cause a drop of eight to nine per cent in Coca-Cola Amatil's overall earnings in the first six months of calendar 2013, Terry Davis told shareholders at an annual general meeting in Sydney on Tuesday.

Discounting by competitors had forced the company to reduce its prices, and retailers were also reducing their levels of stock, he said.

"We are not immune to the fallout that has occurred in consumer sentiment which has flowed through to reduced consumer spending, with many food and beverage categories - including our own - experiencing flat or declining volumes so far this year," he told shareholders.

Coca-Cola Amatil sells a range of non-alcoholic drinks, including Coke, Sprite and Kirks, Mother energy drink and Mount Franklin bottled water.

Mr Davis said earnings were expected to improve in the second half of 2013, which should take full year earnings before significant items to a figure similar to the $896 million it made in 2012.

Coca-Cola Amatil also owns the SPC Ardmona packaged fruit business, which has been under severe financial pressure due to competition from imported goods by labels owned by supermarket chains.

SPC Ardmona's brands include Ardmona, Goulburn Valley, IXL and SPC.

Mr Davis said support was being sought from federal government, and consumers would also need to act if local manufacturers were to survive.

"My personal view is that, ultimately, Australian consumers will need to vocally encourage the major Australian retailers to lift their support for domestically-grown and produced brands instead of supporting imported private label products, or consumers will face the very real proposition of seeing less and less Australian-grown produce on retailer shelves," he said.

      Hallo zusammen!

Coke and Kombucha—How the Internet is Killing Traditional Brands
      https://foragerfunds.com/news/coke-and-kombucha-how-the-inte…
Posted on 8 May 2019 by Steve Johnson

I am in no position to be critical of the world’s greatest investor—my investing mistakes are bigger and more frequent than his.

But Warren Buffett’s slip ups over the past decade have lessons for us all. Giant global consumer brands—which Buffett thought had large and impenetrable competitive moats—are under assault.

Most recently, Kraft Heinz—which Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway owns 27% of—has been in the headlines posting disappointing sales and profit numbers. Gillette’s decline also caught Buffett by surprise:

“It really surprised me that Gillette lost position. Men don’t like to experiment much. Women are better at experimenting,” he said. “But when you were a kid, ‘Gillette Cavalcade of Sports’ was your pal, and brought you the Rose Bowl, and the World Series, and all that sort of thing. You just shaved with Gillette the rest of your life. And you still do, to a great degree.”

Even his beloved Coca-Cola Company has returned less than 7% per annum over the past five years, including dividends.

Are their moats no longer impenetrable?

Losing the arm wrestle with giant retailers

So far the focus has been on the dynamic unfolding between retailers and brands. “There’s always that struggle [with] the brands”, Buffett says, “and there always will be.” “But the retailers, net, it has been moving in their direction.”

Homebrand products have improved dramatically in quality. Sales of Costco’s Kirkland homebrand now dwarf the whole of Kraft Heinz. Majority homebrand grocers like Aldi and Lidl are stealing market share from higher-priced competitors who stock far more external brands.

Both dynamics are putting pressure on established brands. Sales are not growing. And the brand owners are under immense pressure to cut prices or be cut from shelves.

There’s another aspect to the changing retail landscape, though, that is less discussed but just as important. And that is big brands’ former chokehold on advertising.

      The broken monopoly on advertising

Have you ever wondered why the only ads you see on TV are for cars, alcohol and Coca-Cola?

When an advertiser pays for a slot on television, they pay for every set of eyeballs watching that station at that time. While they can target the most appropriate channel and the most appropriate program, there are always going to be people watching who aren’t the slightest bit interested in the advertiser’s product.

It’s a broad medium, and a lot of money is wasted marketing to the wrong people. But the brands that waste the least are the ones with the broadest appeal. So you tend to see products advertised that are consumed by a majority of the population. And, within each product category, the brand with the broadest appeal gets the most value out of the advertising slot.

Newspapers, radio and outdoor advertising all suffer from the same dynamic. Dominant brands get the most value out of the advertising slot, which means they can pay the most for it, which results in them staying dominant.

      Niche brands can market again

Digital marketing is different. If I have a gluten free, vegan muesli that I want to sell, I can now market to a very narrow universe on Facebook. Give me all the yoga-loving vegetarians from Byron Bay.

You’ll still end up paying for some uninterested eyeballs, but it’s a medium that is vastly superior for niche brands and products. It allows them to build a brand by marketing only to a small subset of the population.

It’s no secret that the advertising dollars are shifting online and killing traditional media businesses. Less discussed is how symbiotic those traditional media companies were with the big brands.

From craft beers to kombucha drinks, you are now seeing challengers pop up all over the place. These niche products are not going to replace the staples—my coke-loving father is never going to pay $6 for a bottle of fermented kombucha. But they are going to keep eating away at the edges when the core is already under assault.

      Acquisition no panacea

One solution is to buy the new challengers. Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) recently bought the largest kombucha brand in Australia and global beer companies are swallowing craft beer brands every second week.

But it is a game of whack-a-mole that is proving very expensive to play. A CCA spokesperson celebrated their purchase with glowing praise of the Organic & Raw brand: “In just over eight years, Organic & Raw has gone from selling MOJO at a local farmers’ market to producing one of Australia’s leading organic kombucha brands”.

He should see those eight years as a sign of problems to come. They have lost their monopoly on advertising and it has never been easier to take on the big boys. There are plenty more MOJOs lining up to do exactly that.

AUD verkauft (.pdf).
