      Hallo, shorti,

The company ended the quarter with $269.3 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments.

``Today, we have passed a historic milestone for Inktomi and our shareholders in achieving our first profitable quarter,`` said David Peterschmidt, president and CEO of Inktomi. ``Our company fundamentals are strong as evidenced by our impressive top-line revenue performance and consistent diligence in expense management across the board. In the last 90 days, we continued to consolidate our leadership in the search and network products arena, gained further traction with our Commerce Engine and extended our technology position in the industry. Lastly, we entered the wireless market with major alliances worldwide designed to make Inktomi the de-facto provider of core technology for the new global wireless infrastructure.``

During the quarter, Inktomi announced a broad initiative to deliver its portal services and network products offerings to the wireless market for the delivery of next-generation content, commerce and applications, and forged alliances with seven companies worldwide. They include a strategic relationship and investment in AirFlash for mobile phone Internet services, and partnerships with Cap Gemini and Portal Software for provisioning and billing of wireless content and applications, Hewlett-Packard Company for its wireless hardware platform, Sun Microsystems for its wireless infrastructure solution set, Spyglass for content transformation and GWcom to enable advanced mobile commerce services.

Inktomi Network Products: Traffic Server and Content Delivery
      Suite

Inktomi`s Network Products Business posted a record quarter marked by strategic content distribution network wins, a broadened position in the enterprise arena, extended relationships with existing customers and innovative technology partnerships.

In the quarter, Inktomi`s network products were selected by several companies as the core of their content distribution networks including InterNAP and Europe`s NTL. They add to the existing base of Inktomi`s content distribution customers, such as Digital Island, Enron and Exodus, making Traffic Server the leading foundation technology for content distribution networks worldwide.

New and repeat customers in the quarter included Epoch Internet, Excite@Home and ICG Netcom.

Inktomi extended its reach into the enterprise arena with key design wins and strategic alliances. The company added Abbott Laboratories, Nortel Networks and Bank One to its enterprise customer roster that already includes Sun Microsystems, Fidelity Investments and Bristol Myers Squibb.

In February, the company entered into a relationship with KPMG Consulting to offer advanced commerce, content and application infrastructure solutions to the enterprise segment.

In March, Inktomi joined forces with 3Com to build a smart appliance based on Traffic Server for the fast delivery of Web content to small and mid-sized enterprise customers. This builds on a relationship that Inktomi has with Intel in which Intel is currently shipping a hardware device based on Traffic Server to the market.

Lastly, Inktomi announced plans to support Apple`s QuickTime software on Traffic Server, providing its worldwide customers with high-quality streaming of live and on-demand QuickTime programming over the Internet.

Inktomi Portal Services: Search Engine and Directory Engine

During the second quarter, the Inktomi Search Engine processed approximately 4.2 billion search queries, a roughly 91 percent increase over the same period in the prior year and a roughly 24 percent sequential quarterly increase.

The company solidified its position as the leading OEM provider of global search services and continued to expand its reach into vertical portals and international sites. In the quarter, the Inktomi Search Engine started providing expanded services to the Lycos Network.

The Inktomi Search Engine went live on several sites including LookSmart, MyTurn.com, Webforia, Germany`s Mobilcom, Spain`s Telefonica and Freeserve in the United Kingdom.

In the quarter, Inktomi made significant advances in technology research. The company collaborated with the NEC Research Institute, Inc. on a study, which demonstrated that the Web has grown to more than one billion unique pages. The findings, the first of their kind, were an outgrowth of Inktomi`s global Web crawling operations, and are being used to enhance its Search offerings to provide users with more relevant and intuitive results, and develop new products. In addition, Inktomi created one of the world`s most extensive multimedia indexes, with more than 2.5 million media files for use with the Inktomi Search Engine.

      Inktomi Portal Services: Commerce Engine

In the quarter, Inktomi continued to gain momentum for its Commerce Engine by signing on new customers and adding new merchants to its roster. Additional customers include freeinternet.com and MyTurn.com bringing the total to more than 40 companies worldwide. The Commerce Engine began to power sites including ShopNow.com, Zipee.com and Europe`s Terra Networks.
