by the way: was macht den Softbank?

Thursday May 11, 12:19 pm Eastern Time
      Company Press Release
National Association of Convenience Stores Selects i2 and Point of Sale Ltd. as Partners in Internet Marketplace for $505 Billion Convenience Store and Petroleum Marketing Industry
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2000--The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) announced today that it has selected i2 Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITWO - news), and Point of Sale Limited. (NASDAQ: POSI - news) as partners in creating a new company that will operate an electronic marketplace for the convenience store and petroleum marketing industry.

NACS, i2, and Point of Sale Ltd. (the parent company of the U.S.-based StorePoint, Inc.) are the founding partners of the exchange, which will be operated by the new company with industry participants and the founding partners as shareholders. The working name of the exchange is C-StoreMatrix.

``We are dot.com-ing the convenience store industry,`` said Dean C. Durling, NACS Chairman of the Board and Chairman of Quick Chek Food Stores (Whitehouse Station, N.J.). ``For nearly 40 years, NACS has been the trusted third-party provider of knowledge and connections for this industry. There is no one better positioned than NACS to partner with these two powerhouse technology firms to deliver an open and neutral Internet eMarketplace for the nation`s 119,000 convenience stores and 8,000-plus petroleum marketing companies.``

Durling noted that NACS initiated an extensive selection process to identify partners in developing this Internet marketplace and was guided by selection criteria that focused on which partners could best achieve an open and neutral marketplace.

``i2, with its proven track record of delivering value added ebusiness solutions and marketplace services, and StorePoint, with its breadth of hosted retail solutions, were the most compelling choices for partners in this venture,`` Durling said.

C-StoreMatrix is based upon i2`s TradeMatrix business-to-business-to-consumer marketplace platform and uses hosted application services from Point of Sale Limited.

In addition to i2 and Point of Sale applications that will be hosted by C-StoreMatrix, solution and service providers with Web-enabled applications will be invited to integrate with C-StoreMatrix to ensure openness and neutrality of the marketplace and offer the convenience store and petroleum marketing industry one-stop shopping.

The convenience store and petroleum marketing industry`s commerce spend or aggregated purchasing potential totals $505 billion annually, according to data from the NACS/CSNews Industry Databank and other NACS research. Convenience stores nationwide posted total sales in 1999 of $234 billion and are responsible for another $21 billion in the purchase of equipment, services and products not for resale. Total industry sales include merchandise, foodservice and gasoline. Convenience stores sell over 60 percent of the motor fuels sold at retail in the U.S.

The wholesale distribution transaction potential is projected at $150 billion in the convenience store industry, and manufacturer transaction potential for this marketplace is projected at $100 billion.

C-StoreMatrix will service the industry with four core sets of services:

      1) Commerce: Enabling buying functions, including data aggregation, buying groups, supplies and equipment reverse auctions, petroleum exchange and products for resale, merchandising and trade promotion products, including new product launch, trade deals/promotions, and category management applications as well as enabling Web-based, application services for financial back-office, labor management, HR solutions, automated ordering and order fulfillment functions.

      2) Content and Community: Providing knowledge and content, including industry news, publications, training materials, best practices, and legal and government advocacy. In addition, it will provide community-based forums, including discussion groups, and message boards.

      3) Collaboration: Enabling and driving value through end-to-end communication and information exchange throughout the supply chain, including the sharing of consumption data to increase sales, minimize out of stocks, and increase customer service levels with decreased inventory through Web-based ordering and replenishment.

      4) Connectivity: Providing seamless connectivity and data synchronization to related marketplaces in other industries and to consumers, and building from the platform of industry technology standards supported by NACS and other organizations and adopted by the UCC and other technology standard setting organizations.

``i2 is excited to be selected as a business partner with NACS to deliver an end-to-end solution for the convenience store industry,`` said Tom Cooper, Executive Vice President, eMarketplaces, of i2 Technologies. ``i2`s partnerships with StorePoint and viaLink represent proven industry solutions focused on delivering value today.``

``Historically, the convenience store industry has had a low rate of investment in information technology,`` said Larry Allman, CEO of Point of Sale`s U.S. subsidiary, StorePoint, Inc. ``By combining technology provided by Point of Sale and i2 with NACS` unrivalled brand and industry relationships, we believe that C-StoreMatrix will be uniquely positioned to address the needs of the convenience store industry and to help minimize operators` costs and accelerate time to value.``

The viaLink company`s (NASDAQ:VLNK - news) syncLink service will provide the electronic pricebook for synchronized product, price and promotion data used by the trading partners within the marketplace.

      C-StoreMatrix`s Neutrality a Defining Edge

Leading Internet research firms are increasingly pointing to an exchange`s neutrality as the defining attribute among Net market makers. NACS` broad-based industry representation ensures that industry participants - retailers, distributors, wholesalers and manufacturers - will have equal and open access to C-StoreMatrix.

``The most successful exchanges will be the most neutral exchanges. This was NACS` primary guiding principle in developing an exchange for our industry and was our guiding principle in selecting i2 and StorePoint as partners,`` said NACS Chairman Durling. ``An immediate application of this principle will be an invitation extended to industry retailers and suppliers to participate in C-StoreMatrix, regardless of any other exchange affiliations.``

NACS` membership base is expansive, and ranges from the largest convenience store and petroleum marketing companies - including major refiners and large regional independent chains - to the thousands of stores operated by smaller and mid-size companies that serve the nation`s communities. In addition, the Association represents the nation`s principal consumer packaged goods suppliers and has had long-standing connections with these companies through its annual trade show.

This alliance is subject to the execution of the definitive agreement between the parties.

Joint Media Call: Thursday morning, May 11, 2000 - 9:00 am (EST)

NACS, i2 and Point of Sale will jointly host a conference call for media on Thursday, May 11 from 9:00 am (EST) to 10:00 am (EST). Participants in the U.S. and Canada, please dial 888/806-9459. Hallo,

hier eine weitere Empfehlung zu i2

      I2 aussichtsreich Datum : 15.05.2000
      Zeit :17:06

      Hi Softbank,

      Hallo,

wieder gute News aus den USA:

      MORGAN STANLEY DEAN WITTER
      Outperform

      Company Description
i2 Technologies provides supply chain management
software. The company’s products are used to plan and
schedule manufacturing and related logistics, from raw
materials procurement to customer delivery. i2’s product,
RHYTHM, allows customers to model supply chains and
generate integrated solutions for planning and scheduling
problems. i2’s products have been integrated with virtually
every major release of the ERP systems.
On March 13, i2 and Aspect Development announced a
merger. Aspect provides collaborative solutions for B2B e-commerce.
The combined company is expected to have
4,000 employees and an R&D budget in excess of $1
million per day. The deal is expected to close later this year.
      Valuation
We rate ITWO Outperform. We believe i2’s core supply
chain planning business has been reinvigorated by the
company’s timely move into e-business. In our view, ITWO
is suitable for investors with a tolerance for the volatility
      associated with technology stocks.

      Key Investment Positives
      · Supply chain software — the value add. The web has
increased the variability and velocity of supply lines.
Inventory is an easy but expensive substitute for information
and good planning. But building an efficient supply chain
that is flexible enough to handle the variability of
product/component specifications, but tight enough to do so
quickly and efficiently, is one of the largest of all
      operational challenges.
      · Expanding its product footprint. The company is
moving beyond its roots as a supply-chain management
vendor promising to reduce inventory in the plant. i2 has
expanded into product life-cycle management, electronic
storefronts, trading exchanges, and business optimization
      products.
      · Three-way partnership between i2, IBM, and Ariba. In
combination with these companies, i2 can offer a complete
solution for public or private exchanges, rich with value-added
services covering content, direct procurement, and
supply chain management. The alliance was formed in the
first quarter of 2000, and already several large customers
      have signed on.
      · Tradematrix.com. Customers often have to participate in
multiple supply chains and not just one vertical. A given
organization can be a consumer or supplier in multiple
supply chains, depending on what products are involved.
Tradematrix.com is a B2B platform to which new verticals
(high-tech, apparels, etc) can be added via collaboration
with strategic suppliers (Sun Microsystems, Unilever, etc.)
who implement the RHYTHM software. Over 50 exchanges
are currently being built using Tradematrix. The common
theme is a need for logistics optimization.
      · Potential for recurring revenue. i2 has the best
salesforce in the industry when it comes to selling on value.
(Siebel is a close second). While exchange revenue is
negligible, the company is building a good base of
exchanges from which to generate recurring revenue over
      time.

      Key Investment Risks
      · ERP threat. ERP vendors such as Oracle are marketing
their pre-built integration with their back-end systems. This
is a valid concern because there are so many “touch points”
between supply chain planning and scheduling and several
ERP modules (shop floor control, capacity planning, master
production scheduling). This integration, however, is also a
challenge for many ERP vendors who have less experience
      doing it.
      · i2 books big deals. The underlying deal flow is
necessarily lumpy, which can make comparisons in any
geographic or vertical market volatile quarter-to-quarter.
That could change with some of the new businesses the
company is entering, but the back-end skew to the quarter
for the near-term is likely to remain significant.
      · Uncertainty about recurring revenues. The controversy
for B2B companies is whether recurring revenues are
sustainable. i2 aims to generate 10% of total revenue from
recurring sources by the end of 2000. There is still
uncertainty regarding the composition of these recurring
revenues and the eventual business model for these
eMarketplaces. Most likely, customers will use a
combination of transaction-based fees and subscriptions to
purchase value-added services, such as supply chain
      management, demand forecasting, and planning
optimization. In this way, i2 hopes to leverage its core skill
set in the eMarketplace environment, facilitating complex
      inter-enterprise planning and collaboration.

      Hallo ZOR,

i2 hat gestern gegen den Trend 5,8 % gewonnen. Was erwartest Du in der gegenwärtigen Marktsituation?

      Tech Stocks : Software

i2 May Be Fit to Survive in the B2B Rubble
      By Joe Bousquin
      Staff Reporter
      5/29/00 7:30 AM ET

      Quick, which business-to-business software stock doesn`t belong -- Ariba (ARBA:Nasdaq - news - boards), Commerce One (CMRC:Nasdaq - news - boards) or i2 Technologies (ITWO:Nasdaq - news - boards)?

All have been cast as the glam guys of B2B, the vanguard of a new generation of software companies that hope to capitalize on the rush toward B2B e-commerce. And all have gotten the snot knocked out of them lately: Ariba and Commerce One are at least 70% off their March highs, while i2 Technologies is 60% off its peak.

Yet some investors -- and a couple of fundamentals -- suggest that i2 doesn`t deserve the same pummeling as its B2B brethren.

Marc H. Klee, comanager of the $3 billion John Hancock Technology Fund, says i2, which was started in 1988, has a bit more heft than the two coconspirators it is often identified with.

"I am in no way diminishing the accomplishments that Ariba and Commerce One have made, but I think i2 is somewhat of a different animal," Klee says. "When you`re talking about i2 doing $1 billion in revenues [in 2001], you`re talking about a profitable company vs. companies that simply have a lot of potential."

In its most recent quarter, i2 reported revenue of $638.4 million, a rise of 58% over the year earlier period. By comparison, Ariba (ARBA:Nasdaq - news - boards) had revenue of $40 million, and Commerce One (CMRC:Nasdaq - news - boards), $35 million. Growth rates for those companies, though, were significantly higher, with Ariba growing 322%, and Commerce One surging 1,564% from the year earlier period.

And at a time when the amount of cash a company has on hand has become a recurring question at investment conferences, i2 can boast $638.4 million in cash. Ariba holds $249.3 million and Commerce One has $97 million in reserve.

"Some stocks are deflating and they`re never coming back," says Chris Bonavico, manager of the $500 million Transamerica Premier Small Company fund, which counts i2 as its largest position. "I don`t think I own those stocks. I own the ones that are going to be sustainable, stocks like i2."

Bonavico, who has been labeled a "True Believer" of i2 by Chicago-based fund tracker Morningstar, because he`s had as much as 10% of his assets in the stock, says he likes i2`s dominant position in the supply-chain software market. Using complex algorithms, that software tells companies the best way to buy, sell, order, ship and build things. In the quickly changing world of business, those are often maddening processes that can humble even the most effective managers. In short, doing what i2 does well isn`t easy.

"The bull case really is that i2, it has a working software solution for supply-chain management, which is a very difficult thing to do," Bonavico says. "Everything you`ve heard about B2B really is focused on the supply chain, i.e. managing all of the inputs you need to do business." He says supply-chain management solutions from SAP (SAP:NYSE - news - boards) and Oracle (ORCL:Nasdaq - news - boards) don`t come close to what i2 has to offer. Analysts peg its share of the supply-chain software market at 30% to 50%.

The flip side of that is that i2 is vulnerable to Oracle and SAP, which are developing broader, all-encompassing B2B software packages that may be more appealing to companies looking to do one-stop shopping.

And comparing i2 with Ariba and Commerce One too closely is sure to draw sneers from believers in the younger, faster-growing upstarts. After all, i2 was started by Chairman and Chief Executive Sanjiv S. Sidhu after he left his job at Texas Instruments (TXN:NYSE - news - boards) in 1988, and has had more than a decade to think about the best ways to get things done. Commerce One grew into its present self in 1997 and Ariba got off the ground in 1996.

i2, though, has already been noticed by many investors on Wall Street. At 26 times trailing twelve month revenue, the stock is hardly cheap, unless, that is, you compare it with Ariba (86 times trailing revenue) and Commerce One (a 70 multiple). In fact, i2`s valuation is more in line with Oracle, which trades at 20 times sales. In the midst of the recent market plunge, Oracle is off just 27% from its 52-week high set in March.

Bonavico, the true believer, concedes that i2`s "biggest risk is the valuation." And just because it`s cheaper than its young peers, doesn`t mean it couldn`t fall more. Indeed, valuation comparisons merely raise the question of whether i2 is more attractively priced, or whether Ariba and Commerce One have a lot further to fall.

And not everyone is hanging on to find out. According to Morningstar, $1.8 billion Strong Common Stock fund recently sold 365,000 shares of the stock. The stock`s high valuation was the reason for the move, though the fund still maintains a small position in the stock.

"We looked at the valuation, and it was just tough to justify on any fundamental basis," said Dave Carlsen, an analyst with the fund. "Given the correction in the marketplace, and B2B getting hyped so much in the fourth quarter, expectations got out of hand."

Strong wasn`t the only one selling i2. Sidhu, the company`s founder, has registered to sell 615,000 shares either directly or through his family`s accounts, since the beginning of May. Those shares are in addition to 200,000 shares Sidhu sold in late April, according to security filings. i2 did not return a call for comment on the registration.

"It`s always for the same reasons," says Michael R. Micciche, an analyst with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities, who rates the stock a buy and whose firm hasn`t done underwriting for i2. "They`ll say it`s to diversify or they`re buying a home or putting the kids through school. Most of these guys own so many shares that they do have to sell them in some systematic way. But it`s never something you like to see. Am I alarmed? No. But you`d rather see the insiders hang on."

As of Jan. 31, Sidhu owned more than 62 million shares of i2, or 39% of the company. That means the shares he recently registered to sell account for less than 1% of his holdings.

With the prickly atmosphere surrounding technology stocks, is there still downside risk in i2? Sure there is. In the Nasdaq`s head-fake rally and subsequent plummet on Thursday, i2 gave up 5 3/16, or 5%, to finish at 90 1/8. But many analysts and investors have price targets on the stock in the 140-150 range.

"I think there`s downside potential in any stock," says Hancock`s Klee. "But I think you could make a reasonable case of this stock going up in the mid hundreds, and your downside risk is probably still 25 points. So if I see 50 points of upside potential, and 25 points on the downside, I think the risk reward is worth it."

Especially if i2 is one of the few B2Bs left standing, when the smoke over technology clears.

      Also, viel Glück beim Traden

      Hallo zusammen,

i2 Offers IBM`s Application Management Services to E-Marketplace Customers; Companies Also Announce Expanded Relationship
DALLAS, May 31 /CNW/ -- IBM and i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ITWO - news) today announced the availability of IBM`s Application Management Services (AMS) for i2 e-marketplace customers.
This linkage, which offers i2 customers the opportunity to work closely with experts in IBM Global Services via solution centers worldwide, will help companies optimize the return on their investment in enterprise applications and facilitate strategic e-business initiatives.

AMS services include managing the customer`s enterprise applications for them so they can focus their limited IT resources on Internet collaboration and development of e-marketplace solutions. New IBM methodologies enable the cost-effective delivery of many of these services on an inbound basis to save money and make them affordable to midsize companies as well as individual divisions of large companies.

IBM and i2 also announced an expansion in IBM`s e-business services capabilities for i2-based solutions. In response to global demand for end-to- end solutions that leverage expertise in business requirements and software capabilities, IBM will significantly increase the size of its i2 consulting force.

IBM and i2 share market-leading e-business customers such as Lucent, Nortel Networks, Panasonic, Vanity Fair Corporation and Michelin. Both IBM and i2 offer e-business solutions that address the fastest growing segments of the Internet economy and enable companies to maximize efficiency, collaborate with suppliers and customers, and conduct intelligent e-business over the Internet.

"IBM and i2 deliver on the promise of total e-business solutions to address the rapidly changing competitive environment," said Bob Schwartz, CIO of Panasonic. "The combination of i2 software innovations, together with IBM Global Services business knowledge and execution excellence is proving a winning combination."

"In our dealings with IBM and i2, we find that they are experts in their field of system implementation and software innovation. IBM`s outstanding project management leadership, combined with i2`s inventive solution capabilities, delivers real business value -- not just technical completion," said Brian Clarke, director of trading exchanges at Nortel Networks. "That`s exactly what we look for in a total solution provider."

"IBM continues to impress us with their global delivery expertise," said Darryll Dewan, group vice president at i2. "To date, seven of the 10 largest i2 customer implementations have been managed by IBM Global Services. We are very pleased with their increased commitment to deliver intelligent e-business solutions."

"IBM has applied i2 solutions and proven methodologies to enable our own e-business transformation, resulting in significant cost reduction and tangible value," said David Rawlings, global offering executive, IBM Global Services. "The demand is growing to leverage our real-world expertise in this area. Hallo Schnigge,

Dollar in 2000.

Quartal bekannt. Diese werden m. E. deutlich über den Analystenschätzungen liegen.

Hier noch Planzahlen zu I2 für 2000 und 2001:

Quartal Planumsatz(in Mio. $) Ergebnis pro Aktie
      Q1-00 $186,28 (IST) $ 0,07

      Q2-00 $187,36 $ 0,08
      Q3-00 $204,81 $ 0,09
      Q4-00 $245,38 $ 0,14
      Q1-01 $255,20 $ 0,10
      Q2-01 $256,69 $ 0,12
      Q3-01 $280,60 $ 0,11
      Q4-01 $338,62 $ 0,21
      (Quelle: CE Unterberg Towbin, 12.06.2000)

I2 wird diese Zahlen natürlich toppen!

      Hallo zusammen,

IBM, i2 and Ariba to Work With Tiremakers Online Marketplace
      7/12/00 4:52:00 AM
      Source: Bloomberg News
Hanover, Germany, July 12 (Bloomberg) -- Continental AG, the world`s fourth-largest tiremaker, said RubberNetwork.com, the online marketplace it`s setting up with five other tiremakers, has chosen to work with International Business Machines Corp., i2 Technologies Inc. and Ariba Inc.

The company did not give any financial details about the alliance. The tire industry`s purchasing totals some $50 billion annually.

IBM, the world`s No. 1 computer maker, has been battling to win database software customers from Oracle Corp. IBM, i2 and Ariba have also set up an auction site with Volkswagen AG, Europe`s largest carmaker, to rival that being established by General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG.

``The alliance of IBM, i2 and Ariba was chosen because of their tried and tested solutions, which will add value for all participants,`` said Continental.

Other participants in RubberNetwork.com include Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Michelin & Cie. SCA, Pirelli & Co., Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and Sumitomo Rubber Industries

Umsatz $243 Million (erwartet $187.36 Million)

Despite Reported Losses, i2 Had Its Best Quarter
      By Todd P. Bernier

I2 Technologies (Nasdaq: ITWO - news), a firm specializing in supply-chain management software, is clearly one of the winners in the burgeoning business-to-business commerce software industry. But its shares are up more than sixfold over the past year, and only those willing to accept gut-wrenching volatility and significant risk should consider buying in at this point.

After the market closed Tuesday, i2 reported the best quarter in its history, with revenues of $242 million, up 84% compared with the prior-year period. Software-license revenues were spread across 78 transactions, with a staggering average deal size--a key metric in the software industry--of $1.8 million. Excluding noncash charges related to the acquisition of Aspect Development, i2 reported net income of $0.10 per share, handily surpassing First Call estimates by $0.02. Although the acquisition added $11 million to the top line, i2 would have exceeded estimates even without those revenues.

The main drivers of i2`s better-than-expected earnings were operating margins that improved during the quarter to 11% from 6% a year ago. These fatter margins owed to changes the company has made to its business model. Once simply a software vendor, i2 now works with businesses that need a place to buy and sell products over the Internet.

Because i2`s supply-chain management and decision-support software provide the foundation of a business-to-business trade exchange, the company is starting to generate a recurring stream of subscription revenue tied to the e-marketplaces it helps create. Approximately 100 of these trade exchanges are currently being built by i2`s engineers. Although the market for online exchanges is enormous, few companies can match i2`s soup-to-nuts capabilities.

And i2 continues to leverage off its solid nucleus of partnerships--especially with IBM (NYSE: IBM - news) and Ariba (Nasdaq: ARBA - news)--to build its brand and solidify its first-mover advantage in creating trade exchanges. These partners have been great sources of new growth opportunities.

Without question, the future looks rosy for i2 Technologies, with seemingly no speed limit on the firm`s growth rate. At about 22 times annualized sales, however, the stock is priced for perfection.

      Hallo,

i2 Technolgies 2Q Earnings Met With Brokerage Target Hikes (ITWO)
(NewsTraders.com)--Business-to-business software firm i2 Technologies Inc.`s (ITWO) second-quarter showing was cheered by Merrill Lynch today, which increased its price objective on the firm to $155 from $120, in an action echoed across the brokerage world.
Merrill called the results "very solid" and pointed to "abundant evidence of continued market strength," as it raised its 2000 earnings forecast to $0.43 per share from $0.39 and its 2001 figure to $0.65 from $0.59.

The brokerage house maintained an intermediate-term rating of "accumulate" and a long-term opinion of "buy" on i2.

Meanwhile, UBS Warburg`s Andrew Roskill commented that even without the addition of its recently completed Aspect purchase, "buy"-rated i2 put forth an "excellent" quarter, as he ramped up his price bar on the stock to $160 from $140.

Roskill increased his 2001 EPS forecast to $0.63 from $0.58.

Joining the chorus was Prudential Securities analyst Doug Crook, who ratcheted up his price goal on "accumulate"-rated i2 to $150 from $110.

Not to be outdone, Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette analyst Mike Micciche served up his own target hike on the company, as he lifted his objective by $40 to $165, and reiterated his "buy" rating on i2.

Micciche boosted his 2001 bottom-line expectation to $0.65 per share from $0.59.

i2 announced yesterday that earnings for the second quarter, excluding amortization of intangible assets and acquisition-related charges, were $0.10 a share, ahead of the First Call/Thomson Financial expectation of $0.08.

Citigroup, Enron, i2 Technologies, S1 Corporation and Wells Fargo Launch FinancialSettlementMatrix.com, Inc.

Joint Venture to Streamline Payments and Simplify Business-to-Business E-Commerce

      NEW YORK
      08/07/00

Citigroup (NYSE: C), Enron Broadband Services (NYSE: ENE), i2 Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITWO), S1 Corporation (NASDAQ: SONE) and Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) announced today that they have formed a new company to streamline buying, selling and facilitating payments in business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce. The new company, FinancialSettlementMatrix.com, Inc., will connect buyers and sellers in e-marketplaces with payment processing, credit and other services through multiple participating banks and financial services companies.
B2B e-marketplaces allow companies to procure general office and business supplies as well as direct goods and services in industries ranging from automobile and aircraft manufacturing to energy, chemicals and agriculture. FinancialSettlementMatrix.com intends to offer a complete and open payments system to these e-marketplaces that will allow buyers and sellers to access services provided by any of the participating banks or financial services companies. Forrester Research expects the transaction volume in B2B e-marketplaces will grow 70-fold by 2001 and will account for 53% of the $2.7 trillion that will be spent in B2B e-commerce by 2004.

E-marketplaces are creating large communities of buyers and sellers and automating many of the processes to conduct business online, from making catalog content accessible, to facilitating auctions and negotiating sales agreements. FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will be designed to reduce the financial risk of B2B e-commerce and address a significant obstacle to the growth of online exchange volume—the ability to safely make payments online and provide access to a wide range of payment options including credit solutions.

FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will leverage the expertise of its five founding partners in the areas of electronic payments, financial solutions, trade and the technological requirements of B2B e-marketplaces.

“Banks and other financial services companies are in the business of managing transaction and payment settlement risks, and have been successfully doing so for centuries,” said Steve Ellis, executive vice president of Wells Fargo’s Wholesale Internet Solutions and treasurer of the new company. “As an independent intermediary that can work with any marketplace technology, FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will be open to any e-marketplace and to multiple financial services providers. Our goal is to integrate with leading financial services providers using industry standard transactions so that an exchange or e-marketplace can deliver the broadest range of financial services to their buyers and sellers and provide a choice of financial services providers to their participants.”

“So far, various companies have separately offered individual financial services such as sourcing credit, escrow and payments authentication and processing,” said Sanjiv Sidhu, i2 chairman and chief executive officer. “But no one has offered them all together in a multi-bank model. The lack of a complete financial services solution for e-marketplaces has been a major inefficiency for B2B e-commerce and a bottleneck for these e-marketplaces, restricting their transaction volume. FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will offer a full package of financial services in an open system that can be seamlessly integrated into any e-marketplace.”

Enron will provide the Enron Intelligent Network as a delivery platform for FinancialSettlementMatrix.com. Enron’s global broadband network allows the scalability necessary to deliver secure, high-bandwidth content. The Enron Intelligent Network bypasses the congestion of the public Internet to provide a superior quality of service.

FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will be designed to provide financial services including payments, credit services, and ancillary services such as invoicing. All services will be integrated with i2’s TradeMatrix(TM) e-business solution with an open architecture, making them available to any e-marketplace, whether powered by TradeMatrix or by another technology. FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will help buyers, sellers, and financiers expedite the cash-flow process and increase liquidity in e-marketplaces.

This system will enable financial institutions to provide financing and process transactions for companies via trusted participant qualification, identification and selling, whether they have an existing relationship with each other or not. Other planned capabilities include letter-of-credit management, escrow handling, Electronic Data Interchange interfaces and electronic funds transfer support, and short-term trade finance.

"FSM.com will leverage S1`s internet-based payment processing technology, messaging capabilities and its corporate suite infrastructure," said Fred Dumas, vice president of S1 Corporation. "S1 has a rich history of facilitating and processing Internet business to business payments working with leading financial services providers worldwide.”

“FinancialSettlementMatrix.com will power marketplaces by providing a trusted financial payments infrastructure," said Ann Cairns, Global e-Solutions Head for Citigroup’s e-Business. "This is a critical component for the success of e-marketplaces because it will enable the service they provide to their customers. For Citigroup, a leader in providing transaction and financial services to the world’s largest corporations, developing payment engines for B2B marketplaces is an integral part of our global strategy to deliver the convenience, value, efficiency and reach afforded by the Internet to our customers."

“Enron is pleased to contribute its technological expertise to this new company, and to join forces with this group of industry leaders,” said Kenneth D. Rice, CEO of Enron Broadband Services. “The secure transfer of online financial data is critical for a venture of this nature. The Enron Intelligent Network can ensure the highest level of security and reliability for FinancialSettlementMatrix.com customers.”
