(Alliance News) - Entain PLC hat am Donnerstag mitgeteilt, dass das Unternehmen aufgrund höherer Kosten einen Jahresverlust erlitten hat, der Umsatz jedoch dank einer starken Leistung seines BetMGM-Geschäfts gestiegen ist.
Das Wett- und Glücksspielunternehmen verzeichnete im Jahr 2023 einen Vorsteuerverlust von 842,6 Mio. GBP gegenüber einem Vorsteuergewinn von 102,9 Mio. GBP im Vorjahr, da die Verwaltungskosten um 60% auf 3,51 Mrd. GBP von 2,19 Mrd. GBP im Vorjahr stiegen.
Die Einnahmen von Entain stiegen jedoch um 11% auf 4,78 Mrd. GBP von 4,30 Mrd. GBP im Jahr 2022, was auf ein "gutes Wachstum" bei BetMGM zurückzuführen ist, dessen Nettospielertrag um 36% auf 1,96 Mrd. USD anstieg. Dies liegt am oberen Ende der Prognosespanne von 1,8 bis 2,0 Mrd. USD.

interessanter Ansatz, wenn sich für Partypoker ein Käufer finden lässt und ein entsprechend guter cash Betrag einsacken lässt. Mit dem Cash ist die Übernahme dann direkt leichter.

A sale of partypoker and any other assets could also increase the odds that MGM will take another bite at the apple and try again to acquire Entain. MGM tried to buy Entain for $11.1 billion back in January 2021.
MGM has long been interested in acquiring Entain. If it buys the UK-based company, it will have full control of BetMGM, the successful 50/50 joint venture MGM has with Entain.

The price is likely to be at a tiny fraction of the value of the business when it floated in 2005 given Party’s paltry current player base. A spokesperson for Entain offered no comment when contacted by E+M.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one source with knowledge of the Entain business said the move “made sense” and reflected the apparent recent change in the company’s focus.
Bolt-on, bolt-off: Entain is thought to have become a seller having junked its previous bolt-on strategy in the wake of the departure of previous CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen and the appointment of an activist investor to the board. A full-time replacement is yet to be named, with interim CEO Stella David still in place.
Everything must go: Another well-placed adviser suggested Entain would be willing to listen to offers for a raft of assets that “aren’t easily integrated.”
This could include Foxy, Eurobet, Crystalbet, Enlabs, the SuperSport business bought as part of the Entain CEE deal and “even Coral,” the source added. “You have to ask what’s not for sale?"
Undue influence: The apparent reversal of the previous bolt-on strategy comes after activist investor Eminence Capital gained a seat on the board for its co-founder Ricky Sandler. Eminence previously criticized Entain’s M&A strategy when it bought STS last summer. Sandler has also gained a place on Entain’s ‘purse strings’ committee.
The bottom line: Sources note a slimmed-down Entain would likely be more attractive to MGM Resorts, enabling it to gain 100% control of the BetMGM JV without some of the bells and whistles.

In terms of digital, the company achieved its first quarter of profitability on its investment in the online gaming joint venture, BetMGM, in Q3 2023, with BetMGM now a top-three competitor in both U.S. iGaming and in U.S. sports betting and iGaming combined.
