Enertopia 2021 Fiscal year summary and 2022 Outlook

The Year in Review

On October 7th, 2020 we signed an NDA for the review of a Lithium processing pilot plant. As a result of this NDA, the company began investigating various aspects of how to make the refining and processing of lithium more environmentally friendly. This led Enertopia Corporation to submit 3 separate provisional patents over the course of the year, which we will go into further detail below.

We announced on December 15th the acquisition of USPTO patent #6,024,086 – Solar energy collector having oval absorption tubes. The Company believes this patent and subsequent patent-pending applications could provide a novel approach to using waste heat from various sources. We believe that this technology has the ability to improve the ESG of not only many current mining operations but could also be used in a wide variety of industrial projects.

On February 10th, 2021 we announced the engagement of four clean energy consultants as part of our commitment to a green, clean mining process. Enertopia is focusing these consultants’ efforts on further developing and adapting our filed provisional patents. The consultants include Mr. Richard Smith, owner of Proactive Technology Inc. and holder of 14 separate patents in clean energy efficiency; Mr. Paul Sandler, a data expert with over two decades of experience working at IBM; Mr. Barry Brooks, who with over 50 years of engineering experience has developed dozens of energy-efficient products & ventilation methods for commercial applications; and Mr. Bruce Schellinger, a 20-year industry expert in structure insulation who was instrumental in the state of Wisconsin’s adoption of the P2000 insulation system.

On May 25th and May 26th we announced the filing of our first two provisional patents that are now known as the ENERTOPIA SOLAR BOOSTER TM, and the ENERTOPIA HEAT EXTRACTOR TM. The ENERTOPIA SOLAR BOOSTERTM is loose coupled with the PV array, taking the heat away from the PV panel & also acting as a cooling blanket. This is done by reducing the potential of heat radiating from the roof tiles into the attic space and finally into the living space. The HEAT EXTRACTOR TM is close-coupled on the backside of the Solar (PV) panel, which cools it off. That in turn increases both the PV output and the longevity of the PV panel. We believe these provisional patents have multiple uses in the residential, commercial, industrial, and mining sectors. Please read our PR from July 14th for further information.

On August 17th we announced our third provisional patent of the year, the ENERTOPIA RAINMAKER TM. We have developed a method to extract moisture by lowering the temperature in the HEAT EXTRACTOR TM system to below the dew point of ambient air. Water will form on the outside surfaces and drop to a catch basin for water retention and collection. This technology will be coupled to large solar arrays where efficient PV power will be produced by day and water produced by night and seasonally during the day. Enertopia believes that this approach will significantly increase the ROI of any power project where water shortages exist. Water production costs are projected to be less than that of desalination or reverse osmosis both in first cost and on a per-gallon basis. Arid coastal and seasonally monsoonal areas are particularly favorable. Depending on the chosen location water can be made at the rate of 1.5 to over 4 gallons per hour per panel.

Looking Ahead to fiscal year 2022

On September 2nd we announced our selection along with four other companies in our consortium by the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) to provide our synthetic brine samples from our Clayton Valley project. The project partnership will be using Magnetic Core-Shell Nanoparticles technology in its efforts to recover Lithium from unconventional sources.

Our monitoring program is currently ongoing at the multi-MW solar array and is being run concurrently using a 3rd party private monitoring system to validate its ability to run bug-free and provide uninterrupted data under extreme heat environments as the above monitoring continues. These testing phases will allow for the filing of final patent applications by fiscal Q3 2022, we will announce updates to the process as warranted during Q1 and Q2 as we reach in field milestones.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced more than $50 million in funding for 15 projects focused on field validation and demonstration, as well as next-generation extraction, separation, and processing technologies, for critical materials.

This testing is expected to confirm our internal analysis of the energy creation and added benefit of PV panel cooling, the results of which are lowered panel heat stress, which in turn increases the effective life cycle of the panels.

Carbon Credits

By being able to quantify the increased clean energy output and offsetting CO2 credits, we will then be able to provide an update on the potential value of CO2 credits going forward. We believe the company will be able to monetize the increased savings via CO2 carbon credits as part of the testing via the 3rd party monitoring system. Five years ago these credits resulted in upfront payments of roughly $1,000,000 dollars per Mw based on predefined operating contracts in the industry. We were able to show at maximum production the ability to extract 5,466 gallons of water per hour/MW of solar array. This is done via provisional patent ones glazed adsorber, which heats the claystone solution to the required process heat temperature for extracting the Lithium.

We are not aware of any company using a carbon-neutral footprint to increase the PV output, while also using the resulting heat energy in their process water cycle.

Are any process/equipment modifications required for the Li processing step when compared to traditional methods?

Enertopia Announces Filing of Second Provisional Patent Application

Our Patent Attorneys have informed us our Second provisional patent application has been filed with the USPTO. This filing is the result of our continued diligence in striving for a more economically and environmentally friendly way to extract lithium from the Claystone at our Nevada Lithium claims. While our first provisional patent was geared towards the mining industry, our second provisional patent was created to safely extract heat from any PV panel for a multitude of uses. Key takeaways from the second provisional patent application are: it is a safe method to couple the absorber from our provisional patent #1 to the solar module, allowing for maximum heat transfer, which in turn allows for maximum PV production, an ideal thermal temperature, all while extending the life of the PV panels. Provisional patent #2 is also a universal design, purposely created to interface and be used with and license to other pre-existing technologies. As Enertopia moves forward towards our goal of creating a low carbon pilot plant, we realized that there were certain inefficiencies associated with PV panels which could be used to our advantage while processing the lithium claystone found on our claim. Manufacturers generally rate PV panels at a temperature of 77F, while fieldwork in the desert of Nevada showed temperatures on the back of the panels regularly exceeding 140F, damaging the PV panels (resulting in a shorter life span) while also losing significant output. Enertopia Announces Filing of First Provisional Patent



KELOWNA, BC, May 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Enertopia Corporation (“Enertopia” or the “Company”) a company focused on building shareholder value through a combination of our Nevada Lithium claims, intellectual property, & patents in the green technology space is pleased to provide the following update.

Our Patent Attorneys have informed us our first provisional patent has been filed with the USPTO. This filing is the result of our continued diligence in striving for a more economically and environmentally friendly way to extract lithium from the Claystone at our Nevada Lithium claims.

This technology will allow us to create a closed system loop where only solar energy is used to both start and complete the Li solutions processing. This will be done by taking the excess heat from solar panels and using it to heat our created Li brine solution to the desired ambient temperature of 122F to 140F during the 3 – 4 hour processing cycle. Any excess process water will be kept in insulated storage tanks for use as new batches of Li solution begin processing. Additionally, excess PV production will be stored by batteries and controlled by a BMS (Battery Management System).

As Enertopia moves forward towards our goal of creating a low carbon pilot plant, we realized that there were certain inefficiencies associated with PV panels that could be used to our advantage while processing the lithium claystone found on our claim. In particular, we found that the PV panels are subject to significant heat stress as temperatures rise. Manufacturers generally rate PV panels at a temperature of 77F, while fieldwork in the desert of Nevada showed temperatures on the back of the panels regularly exceeding 140F, damaging the PV panels (resulting in a shorter life span) while also losing significant output. Our provisional patent directly addresses this is.

The effect of temperature on solar panel efficiency

Another goal of this project will soon be put through beta testing and monitoring verification. Upon completion of this testing phase, an unnamed 3rd party that has a three-megawatt solar array has agreed for us to do real-time comparative testing on their PV sub-arrays. The goal will be to increase their PV production while simultaneously removing the heat stress, which will, in turn, prolong the life of their PV panels, a common problem associated with running solar arrays in hot, arid regions.

As with most electronic equipment, excess heat can be a killer and solar panel arrays are no different. The performance of solar panels decline as they heat up, and decreased power output is the result. The industry manufacturers rate their products’ susceptibility to increasing panel temperature, where It is standard practice to test solar panels for power output at 77 °F. So, if a panel is rated to have a temperature coefficient of -0.50% per 1.8°F above 77 °F, that panel’s output power will decrease by half of a percent for every 1.8F degrees the temperature rises above (77 °F). With it being common for PV panels to reach temperatures of 137F, a solar array being 60F into the heat stress zone would equal a decrease of 15% or more on the solar array output.

Other aspects of heat stress include heat fatigue causing permanent PV cell failure, string loss downtime, and 100% production loss.

With over 1.2TW (Terawatts) of worldwide PV installed capacity, and another 100 Gigawatts of PV capacity coming online per year, the inefficiencies that are currently experienced due to overheating are quite extensive and expensive. As the world transitions to a low carbon-based energy system, we feel that there is a large untapped market for the Enertopia technology beyond just the processing of lithium claystone. Our technology has been designed so that it can be retrofitted onto existing PV panels, and we are confident that our upcoming trial run at the 3-megawatt solar array will validate the results we have seen in our own field experiments.
