Tesla drops cheapest Model X, S variants, cuts prices to simplify lineup
...Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has dropped the standard-range variants of its Model X and Model S from its product lineup and adjusted prices across its range, in a sales push that comes days after the U.S. electric vehicle maker reported record deliveries.

To simplify its offerings, the automaker on Tuesday limited variants of its Model X sport-utility vehicle and Model S sedan to “Long Range” and the more expensive “Performance”. It also trimmed the price of its now entry-level Long Range variants.

The discontinuation of the standard-range variants, however, means a rise in starting prices - to $84,990 for the Model X and $79,990 for the Model S, excluding potential buying incentives.

Tesla also lowered the starting price of its mass-market Model 3 to $38,990.

“To make purchasing our vehicles even simpler, we are standardizing our global vehicle lineup and streamlining the number of trim packages offered for Model S, Model X and Model 3,” Tesla said in a statement.

“We are also adjusting our pricing in order to continue to improve affordability for customers.”

Earlier this month, Tesla said global deliveries of its three models in the second quarter of this year rose 51% from the previous quarter to a record 95,200 vehicles. The Model 3 accounted for about 80% of the total, underscoring the vehicle’s role as the linchpin of Tesla’s growth strategy.

The automaker said it expected production and deliveries to continue growing in Q3.

In China, the world’s largest market for electric vehicles, Tesla’s changes on Tuesday pushed the starting price of its Model X to 790,900 yuan ($115,068) and Model S to 776,900 yuan.

Tesla updates pricing and options across lineup, discontinues several variants

Electrek’s Take

I think this is the third significant pricing and options change in 2019. Tesla’s chaotic pricing strategy kind of a running joke at this point.

There are some good news and bad news in this update.

The good news is that the best value Model 3, the Standard Range Plus, just got a little cheaper – although you need to get it in white.

As for the bad news, Model S and Model X base prices are now way up....

Model 3: GA4/Fremont: Klebeband aus'm Walmart
Tesla employees say they took shortcuts, worked through harsh conditions to meet Model 3 production goals

• Tesla produced a record 72,531 Model 3 electric sedans in the second quarter of 2019.

• Employees in the open-air GA4 “tent,” which is not fully automated, tell CNBC they were pressured to take shortcuts to hit goals — reducing vehicle testing for water leaks and using electrical tape on plastic housings to make quick fixes during Model 3 assembly.

• Employees in the tent say they have also had to work through harsh weather and unhealthy air quality.

<sehr lang, aber lesenswert>

Carlos Aranda says he personally visited Walmart multiple times to buy the tape and other items for production associates.

Five people who work or worked in the tent in 2019 said they would frequently pass cars down the line that they knew were missing a few bolts, nuts or lugs, all in the name of saving time.

Pests are another problem. In the second quarter of 2019, Tesla employees said, mice chewed through wires and caused a conveyor breakdown in early May, delaying Model 3 production on at least one shift. Tesla said it has no record of this occurring.

alles terminlich aufeinander abgestimmt

Drug smugglers are using Tesla’s Autopilot to dodge the police, Pablo Escobar’s brother claims
On Twitter, Musk responded to the drama with the simple statement: ‘It’s Not a Flamethrower, Mr Escobar.’

Roberto Escobar was not happy about this comment. He told Metro: ‘Of course. This is his way of avoiding our claim. I will give him a simple deal now.

‘Option 1, pay $100 million in Tesla Inc shares.

‘Option 2, Pay $10 million cash.

‘Option 3, send a flamethrower of mine to space, make a nice video, and with the picture of one of my new companies.

‘See, I am very flexible. Ask Elon which deal he wants to make now.’

--> da scheint sich EM - mal wieder ohne echte Not - ein weiteres Problem eingefangen zu haben

Elon Musk’s Neuralink shows off brain-computer interface

Elon Musk and top-level scientists from his neuroscience startup Neuralink Corp., who are developing a next-generation brain-computer interface, unveiled what they billed as a significant advance toward a therapeutic device Tuesday night.

The device would connect human brains and machines with more precision than other available devices, according to the company, which has been developing the technology for roughly two years.

Neuralink is putting together a submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to start testing the technology in humans. The goal is to use the platform to treat neurological conditions like movement disorders, spinal-cord injury and blindness.

“It’s not like suddenly Neuralink will have this neural lace and take over people’s brain,” said Musk. He also mentioned the announcement was meant to recruit talent to the company, which has about 100 employees. (*)

The company said it is first focusing on patients with severe neurological conditions, but wants to make it safe enough to turn the implantation surgery into an elective procedure, like Lasik...

--> (*) Oha! Offenbar wollen immer weniger fähige Leute für EM arbeiten!?!

Whitepaper Neuralink

16.7.2019 laut PDF => zuvor KEIN Peer review!!

An integrated brain-machine interface platform with thousands of channels

Elon Musk & Neuralink

Brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) hold promise for the restoration of sensory and motor function and the treatment of neurological disorders, but clinical BMIs have not yet been widely adopted, in part because modest channel counts have limited their potential.

In this white paper, we describe Neuralink’s first steps toward a scalable high-bandwidth BMI system. We have built arrays of small and flexible electrode “threads”, with as many as 3,072 electrodes per array distributed across 96 threads.

We have also built a neurosurgical robot capable of inserting six threads (192 electrodes) per minute. Each thread can be individually inserted into the brain with micron precision for avoidance of surface vasculature and targeting specific brain regions. The electrode array is packaged into a small implantable device that contains custom chips for low-power on-board amplification and digitization: the package for 3,072 channels occupies less than (23 × 18.5 × 2) mm3 . A single USB-C cable provides full-bandwidth data streaming from the device, recording from all channels simultaneously.

This system has achieved a spiking yield of up to 85.5 % in chronically implanted electrodes. Neuralink’s approach to BMI has unprecedented packaging density and scalability in a clinically relevant package.
