MARKT/Rallye-Rally dank Casino-Verkaufsplänen - auch Casino fest
2019-08-20 09:20:19.21 GMT

Casino’s Asset Sale Plan Raises Short-Term Hopes in Bond Market
2019-08-23 07:41:03.93 GMT
By Katie Linsell
(Bloomberg) -- French supermarket operator Casino-Guichard
Perrachon SA is finally making headway persuading credit
investors it has a credible plan to cut debt.
The cost of insuring Casino’s debt against default fell
every day this week from near a record after the company
announced it will extend asset disposals to raise a further 2
billion euros ($2.2 billion). The move is particularly
pronounced in credit protection on short-term debt, implying
investors believe the probability of imminent default is
receding.
Credit traders largely ignored Casino’s attempts in recent
months to bolster its finances, which included scrapping next
year’s dividend and simplifying its structure in Latin America.
Parent Rallye SA was placed under creditor protection in May,
triggering a spike in the cost of credit protection on Casino.
A spokesman for Casino declined to comment on the moves.
Casino’s operations show improvement and the company is
likely to be able to refinance and extend the maturity of its
bank facilities in September or October, including its 1.2
billion-euro syndicated credit line that’s due in February,
analysts at Barclays Plc wrote in a note to clients on Aug. 21.
The analysts upgraded their recommendation on Casino’s bonds due
2021 and 2022 to overweight.
But they were not swayed on their outlook for longer-term
debt and left their rating on bonds due between 2023 and 2026
unchanged at ‘market weight.’
Even after this week’s declines in Casino’s risk gauges,
credit swaps suggest the probability of a default within five
years is around 50%, according to ICE Data Services.
Net debt currently stands at 4.7 billion euros, down from
5.4 billion euros a year earlier, Casino disclosed in an
earnings report last month. The company also redeemed 675
million euros of bonds that came due earlier this month.
“Although we acknowledge that spreads are likely to remain
volatile until the resolution of the banking facilities, we
remain comfortable with Casino’s liquidity position following
the recent redemption”, the Barclays analysts wrote.
Casino’s bonds, as well as those issued by its indebted
parent Rallye, have risen in recent days to the highest in
months.
The company’s notes due June 2022 have jumped about eight
cents on the euro this week to a three-month high of 90 cents,
according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The parent’s 465
million euros of bonds due in April 2021 are quoted at 20 cents
on the euro compared with 16 cents last month.

By Robert Williams
(Bloomberg) -- Carrefour SA denied a report it’s
considering a bid for rival Casino Guichard-Perrachon SA, a move
that would create France’s biggest grocer and a new market
leader in Brazil.
Big-box store operator Carrefour has spent several weeks
studying an all-shares offer of 4 billion euros to 4.2 billion
euros ($4.4 billion to $4.6 billion) for Casino, though it could
raise the price to 48 euros a share by adding cash, according to
BFM Business, which cited several people it didn’t identify.
There is no such offer nor any intention to make one, a
Carrefour spokeswoman said.
Casino’s iconic Monoprix chain is prized by French shoppers
but its owner is saddled with billions of euros in debt.
Casino’s parent company Rallye, through which Jean-Charles
Naouri controls the retailer, entered creditor protection in
May.
Casino shares have gained 27% in the past month, giving the
retailer a market value of 4.8 billion euros. Carrefour doesn’t
aim to make a hostile bid, BFM said.
It’s not the first time the two companies have been linked
by merger speculation. About a year ago, Casino said it got
approached about a merger by Carrefour, which denied making any
proposal.
Since taking over as chief executive officer of Carrefour
in 2017, Alexandre Bompard has called for consolidation in
France’s highly competitive grocery market, where the group has
been losing market share amid the rise of hard discounters like
Lidl and franchise-based groups like E. Leclerc. A push to focus
on organic food and private label products hasn’t been able to
make up for eroding interest in its sprawling suburban stores.
Mergers and acquisitions were key to Bompard’s past tenure
as CEO of retailer Fnac Darty--which he prevented from going the
way of Border’s books and RadioShack by focusing on omnichannel
services and negotiating a takeover of a home appliance chain
popular for its warranty programs.
Carrefour’s investors include LVMH Chairman Bernard
Arnault, Brazilian retail tycoon Abilio Diniz, and the Moulin
family, which owns the Galeries Lafayette department store.

Casino CEO Could End Up Selling to Amazon or Carrefour: SocGen
By Albertina Torsoli
(Bloomberg) -- Casino CEO Jean-Charles Naouri may retain control of his galaxy of companies by winning approval of his safeguard plans, with potential exit strategies including a sale of the French retailer to Amazon or domestic peer Carrefour, as well as a breakup scenario, according to Societe Generale.
Despite recent share rebound, situation still tough for Naouri; only means for successful exit is launching a “full process” to maximize value, which could take at least 2 years, analyst Arnaud Joly (hold) writes in a note
Potential options include: selling Casino to Amazon, with a minimum bid price of EU64
“No doubt” Monoprix chain would offer a strong fit for Amazon in France, while GPA could enable Amazon to accelerate development in Brazil
Selling to Carrefour (minimum bid price of EU68)
