Cheetah Resources gives a boost to local Electric Vehicle innovator YK Car Share Co-Op
Yellowknife NT, January 15, 2023 – The NWT mine that’s producing rare earth elements essential to the world’s green energy and digital economies is showing its support at the community level to help promote electric vehicles (EVs) to Northern drivers.

The Yellowknife Car Share Co-op’s new, fully electric GM Bolt EV is now sporting Cheetah Resources’ yellow-and-black logo as the first private sector sponsor to back the YK Car Share’s initiative.

"We are grateful for the support of Cheetah Resources - our first sponsor from the private sector,” says Car Share Co-op Treasurer, Andrew Robinson. “Their support allows the YK Car Share to continue offering our GM Bolt EV at an affordable hourly rate. Electric vehicles and car sharing reduces the environmental impact and cost of doing business in the North."

      Vital gets high-profile visitor
The Canadian government recently announced C$5 million in funding to help establish processing and production at this facility.

Vital is Canada's first rare earths miner. The company crushes and sorts ore at the Nechalacho mine in the Northwest Territories, before sending the ore to the Saskatoon rare earths extraction plant.

Vital managing director John Dorward led Trudeau through the plant.

      ....

"We are engaging with our stakeholders about plans to expand mining operations and value-added processing from originally 500 tonnes per year of NdPr (magnetic rare earths) to potentially 4000 tonnes to meet ever-growing demand.

Vital Metals pivots to Nechalacho permitting as plant capex double
December 22, 2022 - Australia-based Vital Metals (ASX: VML; US-OTCQB: VTMXF) says it is pivoting from completing the rare earths separation plant in Saskatoon to better align with its Norwegian offtake partner while the cost of the processing facility has doubled.

The cost of the Saskatoon plant has been estimated at “over $20 million” as recently as Vital’s Sept. 20 press release. It now says the amount spent to date totals $18 million, and it expects the cost to complete the entire Saskatoon processing facility at $37 million, for a revised total cost of about $63.3 million for the complete project.

The company announced it will defer completing the facility’s rare earth hydrometallurgical leaching, purification and rare earth precipitation circuits until 2024. It says the deferment will have the benefit of preserving up to $15.8 million in cash reserves while aligning the timing of the production of rare earth carbonate until Vital’s offtake partner, REEtec, completes its plant in Norway to the second half of 2024.
