GITI take initial long position in Geomega

      01 04 21 23:01

Geomega Resources Inc. (GMA.V) was among the first western rare earth company to realise that recycling of permanent magnets is an effective method of addressing the increasing shortage of permanent magnet rare earth materials. Against many odds, with grit and dedication, the company has been systematically developing its processing and recycling capabilities since 2015.

COVID-19 permitting, the start of pilot-production could still happen in the second half 2021.

We see Geomega as the role model for sustainable rare earth element production outside China.

Apart from recycling, Geomega also own one of the 10 largest rare earth deposits world-wide. Montviel is also the largest rare earth bastnaesite NI43-101 resource in North America. Geomega own the patent for the related metallurgical process since July 2020.

For us these are compelling reasons to take a position and as of April 1, 2021 we are taking an initial long position in GMA.V stock.

Biden’s Hopes for Rare Earth Independence at Least a Decade Away

      By Joe Deaux
      and Stephen Lee

      26. Februar 2021, 22:23 MEZ Updated on 27. Februar 2021, 13:00 MEZ

Canada and Australia may be the answer to secure supply chains
Miners see U.S. permitting process as cumbersome,

Joe Biden’s ambition to make the U.S. less dependent on other nations for rare earths and minerals critical to the clean energy transition will take years to accomplish.

A review of the U.S. critical minerals and rare earths supply chain that the president ordered this week is likely to show that even with sweeping changes the nation is at least a decade from becoming self sufficient. That will mean turning to countries such as Canada, which has the the largest number of rare earth projects in the world, according to Gareth Hatch, managing director of Strategic Materials Advisors Ltd.

“There’s far greater expertise in rare earths and critical minerals in Canada and Australia than there is in the U.S.,” said Hatch, who is also the CEO of Innovation Metals Corp., a subsidiary of Ucore Rare Metals, which has a rare-earth project in the U.S. “But the downstream markets are in the U.S., so it’s in the interest of all three countries to work together with the U.S. being the ultimate end market.”

America lacks capacity to produce enough permanent magnets, needed to run the engines of everything from missile guidance systems to the wind turbines and electric cars at the center of the clean energy transition. Miners say it takes so long to get federal and state environmental permits, and that the process is so unpredictable and open-ended, that they struggle to plan new mines.
      Little Capacity

The U.S. has only one operational rare earths mine -- the Mountain Pass site in California owned by MP Materials -- with a handful of others a decade away from starting production. Right now, the mined ore all gets sent to China for processing, compared with China’s dozens of mines and hundreds of refining and separation facilities.

The Defense Department awarded MP Materials contracts to fund processing and separation of rare earths, putting it on track to become the only U.S. company capable of doing so.

“The supply-side response is always so slow compared to demand side events, so you absolutely have to start now for putting this capacity in place,” Hatch said. “The red tape associated with development of new minerals or mining projects in the U.S. has been pretty significant.”

The Trump administration went some way toward speeding up permitting in July 2020, when it rewrote the way agencies scrutinize projects under the National Environmental Policy Act. But Biden is expected to either undo those changes or wait on the outcome of pending litigation.

Biden’s order doesn’t specifically call for more domestic extraction, but lawmakers are gearing up for a fight. House Democrats say they support Biden’s goal of fortifying the nation’s supply chains, but not if it means more mining. Republicans counter that growing demand, especially for electric vehicles and renewable energy projects, can’t be met without more mining.

To the argument that the U.S.’s reliance on imports from potentially hostile foreign nations like China creates a national security risk, Aaron Mintzes, senior policy counsel at environmental group Earthworks, counters that other nations will swiftly fill any voids. That happened in 2010, when China put trade restrictions on rare earth minerals, and Australia, Indonesia, Canada, and the U.S. almost immediately opened new mines.

"Früher als später werden wir Nachrichtenberichte haben, die bestätigen, dass GMA das erste börsennotierte Unternehmen ist, das REE von Permanentmagnetenabfällen trennt. Dies allein sollte ausreichen, um den Aktienkurs auf ein sehr wichtiges Niveau anzuheben (angesichts der REE- und grünen Unternehmen insgesamt). Darüber hinaus ist GMA vollständig finanziert."

Geomega, Everwin to recycle magnet production waste

      2021-02-04 09:35 ET - News Release

      Mr. Kiril Mugerman reports

GEOMEGA SIGNS LOI WITH EVERWIN MAGNETICS

Geomega Resources Inc. and Everwin Magnetics Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Forte Mobility Co. Ltd., have entered into a letter of intent (LOI) to recycle rare-earth-containing production waste from Everwin's future production facilities in Ontario, Canada.

Everwin is developing the first NdFeB (neodymium iron boron) magnet production facility in Canada that will go from machining to surface treatment and is targeting to start with approximately 300 tonnes of annual production of rare earth magnets. Its focus is providing magnets and motors to the North American market while its parent company Forte Mobility specializes in electric vehicles and battery systems.

"It was only a question of time before companies like Everwin have decided to bring the expertise they have developed over decades in the magnet industry in China to Canada. The favourable energy rates, a healthy labour market, direct access to the North American market, the growing electric vehicle sector, and now a recycling facility with Geomega to process magnet scraps and swarf make Canada an ideal location to develop a magnet facility. We are very excited to be working with Everwin as they look to start production in Canada. This type of operation will produce on average 25 per cent magnet waste and swarf that will need to be recycled at our rare earths recycling facility in St-Bruno," commented Kiril Mugerman, president and chief executive officer of Geomega.

"Our main market will be focused on various permanent magnet motors used in cars, especially the EVs, as there will be a significant demand. The increase of manufacturing cost in Asia, combined with automation of the production process and the co-operation with Geomega to further reduce the waste by recycling makes it competitive to produce the magnet here in North America. This will improve our customer satisfaction by reducing lead time and convenient communication. Another advantage is the favourable treatment for locally made magnets under the new USMCA [United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement]. We shall have a complete supply chain from rare earth raw materials to finished magnet products and recycling thanks to a large resource of these materials in North America. With 30 years experience in the industry, we are confident that we will provide customers the best value under this co-operative structure with Geomega," commented Howard Peng, general manager of Everwin.

Rare Element Resources Named U.S. Department of Energy Funding Recipient for Rare Earth Separation and Processing Demonstration Project

DoE selects General Atomics and Rare Element consortium for $21.9 million in funding to advance commercial grade demonstration project
January 21, 2021 08:30 AM Eastern Standard Time

LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rare Element Resources Ltd. (the “Company”) (OTCQB: REEMF) is pleased to announce that formal notice has been received from the U.S. Department of Energy (“DoE”) that General Atomics, an affiliate of Synchron, the Company’s largest shareholder, along with Rare Element Resources, Inc. (“RER”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, have been selected to enter negotiations in relation to a financial award under the Critical Materials Funding Opportunity Announcement (“FOA”) for the engineering, construction and operation of a rare earth separation and processing demonstration plant.

RER, along with partners General Atomics and affiliates, and LNV, an Ardurra Group, Inc. Company, as engineering and construction subcontractor, submitted a formal proposal to the DoE in response to a published FOA in mid-2020 for the construction and operation of a rare earth separation and processing plant utilizing proprietary technology to produce commercial grade products. The DoE funding represents one-half of the total estimated costs for the project and is contingent upon the negotiation of mutually agreeable documents which is expected to be completed within 60-90 days.

Randall Scott, President and CEO of the Company, stated, “We are very pleased that the Department of Energy has taken decisive action to advance a domestic rare earth supply chain through the Advanced Manufacturing Office’s funding initiatives and now has selected our team’s proposal as a critical materials large scale project. We stand ready to meet all the pre-award requirements to finalize the financial award within the coming weeks. Once this is completed, we will progress our team’s plans for the timely design, construction and operation of the plant, utilizing our proprietary technology.” Mr. Scott added, “This funding evidences the federal government’s commitment to secure an American supply chain as we face Chinese dominance in the rare earth market. The Company remains focused on being the next domestic rare earth producer, and the DoE funding will provide key support to advance this goal through this demonstration project.”

The demonstration plant will process the already stockpiled high-grade ore from RER’s Wyoming Bear Lodge Project. The Company anticipates that, once funding is secured, the demonstration plant design will be finalized and followed by construction within a period of 18-24 months. Operations to process and separate rare earth elements from the stockpiled ore will follow for an additional 12-month period.

Synchron, UIT and General Atomics are privately held companies engaged in the development and production of advanced technology products and systems for the energy and defense sectors.

Rare Element Resources Ltd. is a publicly traded, strategic materials company focused on delivering rare earth products for technology, energy and defense applications by advancing the Bear Lodge Critical Rare Earth Project in northeast Wyoming. Bear Lodge is a significant mineralized district containing many of the less common, more valuable, critical rare earths that are essential for high-strength permanent magnets, electronics, fiber optics, laser systems for health and defense, as well as many technologies like electric vehicles, solar panels and wind turbines.
