E-New Media lines up $350m for international buying spree
ERIC NG
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-New Media is prepared to invest HK$250 million to HK$350 million on acquisitions of telecoms, media and Internet-related firms, according to chief operating officer Bertrand Pierre Folliet.
The company has identified four acquisition targets - one United States-based, one France-based and two Britain-based.
The telecommunications and Internet billing solutions provider reported on Wednesday a net loss of HK$13.06 million for the nine months to December 31 last year on turnover of HK$223.17 million.
In the full year 1998 the net loss was HK$56.52 million on turnover of HK$52.67 million. E-New Media was formerly country club operator and securities investor Essential Enterprises, which acquired former Cable & Wireless HKT subsidiary New Media Corp in July last year.
New Media provided billing services to users of telephone and Internet commerce services in co-operation with telecommunications operators and e-commerce service providers.
Only two months of New Media Corp`s operating results were consolidated into E-New Media`s nine-month financial statements, Mr Folliet said.
New Media Group on its own has recorded a 13.2 per cent increase in audited before-tax profit to HK$76 million for the year to December 31, 1999, from a year earlier, while turnover slipped 1.1 per cent to HK$1 billion.
Voice billing declined 7.3 per cent to HK$937 million during the year, but Mr Folliet said cost reduction measures and revenues from Internet billing services launched last year boosted net profit. Internet billing revenues in the first quarter amounted to about HK$55 million, compared with HK$63 million for the 12 months to December.
Mr Folliet said the company`s shareholders were still attempting to resolve a row between original Essential Enterprises directors and newly appointed directors from former New Media.
The row has resulted in a delay in executing acquisition of a 10 per cent stake in Japan-based digital music technology developer Lux Corp for 780 million yen (about HK$57 million), as the board has yet to ratify the deal.

@schlaglicht
Bist du etwa auch E-New Media Aktionär? Sonst scheint keiner diese Aktie zu kennen.
