Three Major Milestones During JavaOne Confirm Inprise/Borland as Leading Java Pioneer
Java 2 Enterprise Edition Licensee, Member of the Java Community Process And Winner of
Java Pro`s Reader`s Choice Award
MONDAY, JUNE 12, 2000 9:00 AM
- PRNewswire
SCOTT VALLEY, Calif., Jun 12, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Inprise/Borland (Nasdaq:INPR) today announced three
key developments in the company`s mission to offer the best enterprise software solutions to help companies bring their
businesses to the Internet. They include an agreement to license Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) from Sun
Microsystems; joining the Executive Committee (EC) of the Java Community Process (JCP); and winning the Java Pro`s
Reader`s Choice Award Best Java IDE, for Inprise/Borland`s popular JBuilder(TM) product.

"As a member of the Executive Committee and a J2EE licensee, we are excited to strengthen our relationship with Sun,"
said Dale Fuller, interim president and chief executive officer of Inprise/Borland. "We are thrilled with the success of our
JBuilder products in the marketplace and will continue to support Sun`s major technologies with our JBuilder, Application
Server(TM), and AppCenter(TM) products."
Licensing J2EE allows Inprise/Borland to offer customers the latest Java technology through its award-winning Inprise(TM)
Application Server and AppCenter products. The new Inprise Application Server 4.1 is one of the industry`s first application
servers to support the J2EE standard and combine the benefits of EJB and CORBA. To more successfully manage
distributed applications, AppCenter 4.0, now with added support for EJB and CORBA, enhances the management
capabilities of the application server market and enables customers to better handle the increased demands of today`s
Internet economy.
In addition to the license, Inprise/Borland was also selected as a member of the EC that will oversee the JCP, the
community-based process for developing Java technologies. Inprise/Borland will help ensure that the process for evolving
Java technology more open and to help speed the adoption of the open, platform-independent language to the development
community.
Finally, Borland(R) JBuilder(TM) 3, a Rapid Application Development (RAD) environment won the Java Pro Readers` Choice
Award for Best Java IDE, earning nearly twice the votes of any other contender in that category. As an early contributor to
JavaBean specification, database connectivity and component-based development, JBuilder was a clear winner in the IDE
category.
