      Zusammenfassung:

Portal Software develops, markets and supports real-time customer management and billing software for providers of Internet-based services. For the six months ended 7/31/99, revenues totaled $36 million, up from $8.4 million. Net loss fell 5% to $6.3 million. Revenues reflect higher service revenues from the increased support and maintenance service fees. Lower net loss reflects a $3.8 million gain on the expiration of put options.

      Technology Partnerships
Amplify.net: Amplify.net`s iProvidence multiservice broadband access and data analysis solution combined with Portal`s Infranet billing platform provides a complete solution for service providers to remain competitive.
BMS Corporation: The planned BMS/Portal solution will provide a convergent operations platform and business infrastructure for local exchange carriers (LECs) and competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) wanting to add Internet services, and for Internet service providers (ISPs) looking to provide traditional telephony services.
CrossKeys Systems: CrossKeys products help service providers deliver differentiated services, implement new technologies and manage multiple vendor networks.
NightFire: The Portal/NightFire integrated solution will automate the order and billing process for providers of advanced broadband communications services such as digital subscriber line (DSL).
OSI, Inc.: OSI and Portal will offer communications service providers an interoperable solution for managing data services from end-to-end-including order entry, service provisioning, billing, and network fault management. Such a solution provides faster time to market with new data services, quicker service activation, and quality of service protection.
Quintessent Communications: Quintessent and Portal will offer a developed integrated solution that allows carriers the ability to seamlessly integrate Off Network/On Network Service Provisioning capabilities of switched circuit and IP based carrier’s Operational Support Systems (OSS).

      Customer Highlights
BiznessOnline.com: Infranet enables BiznessOnline.com to offer customized pricing plans for various levels and combinations of high-speed access, dial-up access, e-commerce and co-location services in different regions.
Concentric: Concentric required a solution that could manage a broad range of IP-based services. They selected Infranet to manage those services and handle billing.
Covad: Covad`s rapid growth required a system that was flexible and scalable. Portal’s Infranet was the solution because of its adaptability and ease of integration with front-end and back-end systems. In addition, Infranet’s unique application programming interface enabled Covad to implement Portal’s business infrastructure system in twelve weeks.
Flashcom: To be successful in the highly competitive DSL market, Flashcom required real-time scalability and a flexible architecture. Portal’s Infranet software stood out as the most flexible platform to support the projected growth of their customer base and the dynamic service and product packages that they offer. As a result, Flashcom’s customers will enjoy greater service selection and competitive rates.
NorthPoint: NorthPoint will use Infranet as the foundation for billing and customer management of their entire network. By linking back-office billing operations and front-office sales and marketing operations, Infranet`s flexible application programming interface enables NorthPoint to quickly expand the variety of products, price plans and promotions they offer to customers.
US West: US WEST needed a real-time customer management, tracking and billing solution that could roll out quickly and scale to handle exponential growth. At the same time, the solution had to integrate with existing legacy systems. After evaluating several different solutions, US WEST chose Portal’s Infranet software.
Rhythms: Portal’s Infranet provides Rhythms with a business infrastructure that will support the company’s rapid, nationwide rollout of high-speed DSL network solutions with speeds ranging from 128 kbps to 7.1 Mbps.

      Data CLEC and DSL Providers
"For data CLEC and DSL providers, Portal enables them to initially offer a variety of pricing/usage packages for consumers and businesses and gradually launch new value-add services that can substantially improve profitability as they grow."
      - Boyd Peterson
      Vice President Consumer Market
The Yankee Group Portal’s customer management and billing software, Infranet, is an off-the-shelf solution designed to meet the specific needs of Internet businesses such as data CLEC, DSL and other broadband access services. Infranet delivers a highly flexible business infrastructure that enables these providers to rapidly bring new services to market and support substantial subscriber growth.
With Infranet, data CLEC and DSL providers can also support multiservice businesses to offer basic access as well as a wide range of other fee-based, value-added services that can substantially improve revenue generation. Because Infranet is based on a real-time flexible architecture with published application programming interfaces (APIs), it can be easily integrated with technology from third-party software vendors to incorporate complementary functionality for data CLECs and DSL services.

ortal Reports Third Quarter Financial Results
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1999--Portal Software Inc. (NASDAQ: PRSF - news), today announced financial results for the third quarter ended October 31, 1999.
The company reported third quarter FY 2000 revenues of $28.1 million, a 288 percentage increase over revenues of $7.2 million for the comparable quarter in the prior year and a 35 percentage sequential increase over the previous quarter. Net loss for the quarter was $1.7 million or a loss of $.02 per share compared to a net loss of $4.0 million or a proforma loss of $.07 per share for the year earlier period.
``During the quarter, we demonstrated the company`s strong ability to execute on all fronts,`` said John Little, founder and chief executive officer of Portal Software. ``Our financial results exceeded our expectations for the quarter. We gained solid market share in the high-speed Internet access market, as the three largest DSL CLEC providers selected Portal for business infrastructure. We also delivered extremely powerful technology that will enable our customers to bring a new breed of highly sophisticated business models to market.``
At the beginning of the third quarter, Portal set three goals to measure its performance during the quarter: to deliver a major new release of its flagship product, Infranet®, to penetrate the high-speed Internet access market and to continue international expansion. The company successfully accomplished these goals.
During the quarter, Portal shipped Infranet 6.0, the industry`s first customer management and billing software that provides a comprehensive real-time business infrastructure with true-transactional functionality. Infranet 6.0 is driving the evolution of the Internet services market by enabling service providers to implement real-time, fully transactional customer management and billing functionality across their entire business operations, accelerating their ability to bring highly sophisticated, cross-service business models to market.
The company also closed significant business with Deutsche Telekom Online Service GmbH, Europe`s largest consumer ISP, to implement Infranet 6.0 for its T-Online service. The new product will enable T-Online to enhance customer services and build a scalable business infrastructure to support the expected future growth of the service, currently supporting over 3.6 million subscribers.
Portal attained significant market share in the high-speed Internet access market in the quarter by closing key business and establishing technology partnerships. In addition to winning the market`s three largest DSL CLEC providers, Covad Communications, Northpoint Communications and Rhythms NetConnections, Portal closed additional business with Telia, Sweden`s national telecommunications operator, Flashcom Inc., a DSL provider with service in 29 metro markets, and New Edge Networks, a DSL company offering high-speed Internet access to small and medium size cities.
The company also entered into several strategic alliances including Amplify.net, BMS Corporation, Cross Keys Systems Corporation, Integretel, NightFire Software, Quintessent Communications, Objective Systems Integrators, Tibco and Vitria. These partnerships will integrate Infranet with best-of-breed technology from third-party vendors to provide expanded functionality for data CLECs and DSL services.
Portal aggressively expanded international sales and marketing during the quarter. In the Asia-Pacific region, the company announced that it established headquarters in Hong Kong and supporting regional offices in Beijing, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore and Sydney, Australia. Key customer wins in Asia include Asia Online, Hong Kong`s oldest independent ISP and Shanghai Online, one of China`s fastest growing ISPs. Portal also continued building momentum in Europe by entering into key customer transactions with T-Online and Telia and through the expansion of its European sales and marketing organization. Two new regional offices in Munich, Germany and Paris, France were opened and will provide sales and marketing support for Portal`s UK-based European headquarters.
Portal also closed additional business with a key design win account, Inktomi. Inktomi has implemented Infranet to bill online merchants for customer transactions and report usage to Internet portals offering the Inktomi Shopping Engine service.
``We are pleased with our financial performance for the quarter which reflects the broad acceptance of our software,`` said Jack Acosta, chief financial officer at Portal. ``We will continue to invest aggressively in sales and marketing to capture market share, and in research and development to maintain and extend our technological advantage - positioning Portal as a leading Internet business infrastructure company.``
