Desweiteren beginnt charttechnisch für Celera eine neue Periode, die ich in den nächsten Posting erörtern will.

Erstmal der aktuelle Chart von Celera!



1. RSI steht unmittelbar vor einem klaren Kaufsignal, nachdem er die letzten Tage einige Mal probiert hat die Mittellinie zu durchbrechen.
2. Slow Stochastic steht auf kaufen und notiert noch im überverkauften Bereich.
3. Momentum zeigt eine eindeutige Abschwächung des Abwärtstrendes bzw. des Seitwärtstrendes.
4. Das Volumen steigt an.

U.K. Donates 15 Million Pounds to Gene Research, BBC Reports

London, July 11 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K. government is giving 15 million pounds ($22 million) to small companies and universities which are using the recent mapping of the human genome sequence to research new treatments for diseases, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported on its Web site, citing Lord Sainsbury, the government`s science minister. The money will go to scientists working on gene-based projects including the function of genes, new methods for inserting genes into cells and ways of testing people`s genetic make-up; the government said industry will match its grant. Funding awards will go to companies and universities which are jointly developing new medical techniques, the BBC said.

U.S.-based PE Corp.`s Celera Genomics Group and the publicly funded Human Genome Project on June 26 both announced completion of the first maps of the human genetic code, which could provide insights into treatments for cancer and other diseases.

Celera steht im Moment bei 103 Dollar! Nachrichten gibt es keine neuen und ansonsten ist es auch ziemlich ruhig um Celera! Ruhe vor dem Sturm?

Celera steht nun bei 98 Dollar und die Begründung dafür kann ich nicht liefern, anscheinend konsoldiert Celera bei den Amis, egal was die Charttechnik sagt. Oder es wird nur nach dem Momentum gehandelt.
Oder man will den Widerstand bei 85 Dollar testen.
Abwarten oder verkaufen! Diese Entscheidung muß jeder selbst treffen!

Nach ein paar Tagen Auszeit melde ich mich nun wieder. Celera hat noch keine Tendenz eingeschlagen und verläuft nun schon fast 7 Handelstage nur seitwärts.

Erstmal die wichtigsten Meldungen der letzten Tage:

Das Gentech-Unternehmen Celera Genomics (Nyse: CRA) meldete bereits am Mittwoch nach Börsenschluss, dass man mit der Biotechfirma Life Technologies Inc. (OTC: LTEK.OB) eine Vereinbarung zur Schaffung einer Datenbank von geklonten Genen und deren kompletter chemischer Sequenzen geschlossen hat.

Unter dem Abkommen werden Gen-Sequenz-Informationen zu Celeras bereits existierender, menschlicher Genomdatenbank hinzugefügt. Daraus resultierende Klone werden durch Life Technologies über einen direkten Link mit der Datenbank verknüpft sein. Klone von eingetragenen Genen werden für die Kunden von Celera’s Datenbank zugänglich sein. Diese werden die Gene und deren chemische Sequenzen zur Beschleunigung der Entwicklung von Medikamenten benötigen.

Die Unternehmen erhoffen sich durch den Verkauf der Klone und von intellektuellem Eigentum eine zufriedenstellende Einnahmequelle. Die Umsätze werden in einem nicht bekannten Verhältnis aufgeteilt.

Celera verliert in einem schlechten Biotechumfeld 4,6 Prozent auf 95-3/8 US-Dollar.

Harvard`s database subscription gives its academic researchers access to four databases developed by Celera. All four of Celera`s databases include Celera proprietary information as well as publicly available data. First, the Celera Human Gene Index provides customers with the set of human genes derived from EST sequencing programs. Second, Celera`s Human Genome Database is expected to provide the complete sequence of the human genome and the entire collection of human genes with links to associated biological and disease information. Third, the Drosophila Genome Database provides the complete sequence of the Drosophila melanogaster genome generated by Celera`s whole genome shotgun sequencing strategy. The Drosophila Genome Database is extensively annotated with gene, protein and biological information. Fourth, the Mouse Genome Database being generated by Celera should allow for comparative analysis with the human genome that may be especially significant for the identification of genes and gene regulatory regions of importance to understanding human biology. Access to the databases also provides Harvard researchers with associated comprehensive bioinformatics systems and tools for viewing, browsing, and analyzing genomic information.

Harvard University, which celebrated its 350th anniversary in 1986, is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. This development, using Drosophila gene sequences developed by the Celera Genomics Group (NYSE:CRA), highlights the complementary relationship of PE Corporation`s two business groups.

Fond kauft sich bei Celera ein!


BB Biotech Buys Stakes In Celera, Millennium, Others -VWD

SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland (VWD)--Swiss holding company BB Biotech AG (Z.BBT) said Thursday during the first half of the year it bought stakes in 10 biotechnology companies, including PE Corp. Celera Genomics Group (CRA) and Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. (MLNM) as it widens its focus to include genomics.

Nine of the investments are in listed companies, and one was in a non-listed company that has since listed, the company said.

While its core focus remains in new therapeutics, stakes in Celera, Diversa Corp. (DVSA), Pharmacopeia Inc. (PCOP) and Millennium broaden BB Biotech`s scope in gene sequencing, the evolution of genes, drug metabolism and functional genetics.

BB Biotech now has investments in companies that have had 224 products in the final Phase III of clinical testing evaluated for regulatory approval. It also expects a number of companies in which it holds stakes to list this year.

Mapping Out Stocks for the Genome Gold Rush


Playing the biotechs is always fraught with risk, but some bets are looking pretty smart.

If you thought Net stocks were tricky, try genomics.

The only sure thing about the emerging genomics industry is that billions of dollars in research money will be thrown at it. Some will pay off. A lot won`t. And it may take years or decades for some research to bear fruit.

That`s why analysts and investors now seem most apt to recommend pick-and-shovel companies that sell the tools to the hoards of drug companies joining the genomic gold rush. Thar`s gold in them thar hills! You may not find any, but you certainly won`t get anywhere without the tools. That thinking has had these stocks rallying in recent weeks, though Thursday morning saw a pullback that knocked the big biotech indices down by about 4%.

Fire to Play With
A decent track record won`t hurt, either. "I go for revenue-driven companies, not companies that are in early stages," says Paul Knight, analyst with Thomas Weisel , who recommends PerkinElmer (NYSE: PKI - news) , BioSource International (Nasdaq: BIOI - news) and Varian Medical Systems (NYSE: VAR - news) , which all make products for the biotech industry. "They have established products and distribution networks," he explains. Weisel, which rates all three stocks strong buys, advised PerkinElmer in a recent transaction but doesn`t do work for the others.

But, says Knight, "if you want to play with fire, there`s lots of fire to play with."

And lots of momentum, too. The Nasdaq Biotech Index tripled over a year to early March, then lost 50% of its value over two months. Now the measure has nearly doubled off its lows, leaving it around 1300 Thursday, just 20% below its all-time high.

The companies that have benefited from the pick-and-shovel logic include Celera Genomics (NYSE: CRA - news) , Incyte Genomics (Nasdaq: INCY - news) , Millennium Pharmaceutical (Nasdaq: MLNM - news) , Human Genome Sciences (Nasdaq: HGSI - news) and Qiagen (Nasdaq: QGENF - news) , all of whose shares have posted hefty gains over past year on hopes for their gene-research prowess. All sell research to b! ig pharma companies, although Human Genome is also developing gene-based drugs.

A Place for Tradition
While Celera has been in the news most lately for compiling the first draft of the human genetic blueprint, all of these companies have been compiling data for years, mainly for big pharmaceutical and biotech companies. All are looking to find ways to manipulate the 100,000 or so genes in the human genetic makeup to find profitable new drugs.

And with cash coming from such alliances, tool-kit companies can be valued on traditional investment measures, such as net present value and earnings multiples, even though some, like Incyte and Human Genome, are still posting losses.

"The first person to get all the information is in a great position," says Matthew Murray, a fund manager with Alliance Capital`s new $500 million biotechnology fund. The fund is one of several that have formed in recent months to invest in genomics.

Will the genomic leaders of today be the defunct Commodore and Atari computer makers of tomorrow? Not in all cases, some investors say. That`s because the barriers to entry in genomics field are higher than for computers. Furthermore, patents on genetic findings could ensure a steady stream of royalties in coming years from drugs on the market. "The founder effect is much more pronounced for these companies" than computer makers, says Murray.

Long Run
How many new drugs will be created from genetic findings is an open question. Already there have been some 90 drugs from the biotechnology industry approved, mainly new drugs to replace or interact with proteins in the body, as well as vaccines and antibodies that target certain illnesses. But new gene maps are opening up hundreds of new targets for research.

But with unproved technologies and no established record of generating money, the old rules for investing apply, such as the portfolio approach. It`s a rule of thumb among biotech investors that for every 10 stocks, one or two may succeed, two or three will be marginally successful and the rest will fail.

"We`re going to be working on the genome for the next 100 years," says Steve Newby, fund manager with GenomicsFund.com, a Maryland fund with $14 million invested in 21 genomics stocks. "There`s going to be some wipeouts and some grand slam home runs."

The GenomicsFund, which was started in March, breaks out stock purchases into four main areas: pharmacogenomics, bioinformatics, analysis technologies and delivery technologies. The biggest sector in the fund -- and probably the highest risk -- is pharmacogenomics, which is finding new drug based on genetics. Top names in this sector include Human Genome Sciences (which not only has a gene database but is developing drugs based on it), Millennium, Protein Design Labs (Nasdaq: PDLI - news) and Medarex (Nasdaq: MEDX - news) .

Newby says, "We stick with the leaders" in the sector, and the strategy seems to be paying off for now. With surging investor interest in genomic plays, the firm topped both Morningstar and Lipper mutual fund performance rankings in the second quarter, GenomicsFund says.

Getting Snippy
Not everyone sticks with the leaders, of course. Some analysts see the future leaders in newer companies like Orchid Biosciences (Nasdaq: ORCH - news) and Sequenom (Nasdaq: SQNM - news) , the leaders of some 20 companies researching variations in genes called SNPs, or "snips."

"Billions of dollars will be tossed toward this area in the next few years, and the pie is big enough to support many players," says Tim Bepler, fund manager with Orbitex Health & Biotechnologyfund, a $300 million biotech fund with about 35% of its assets in genomic stocks. "We think a basket approach makes the most sense."

Ich denke, daß die heutige Meldung mit Harvard zu unrecht so wenig beachtet wird. Harvard ist in allen Rankings die Nr. 1 in Amerika, was Biotechnologie und Genetik betrifft, und die Tatsache daß Harvard und Australien unterschrieben haben, bedeutet m.E.. zweierlei:

1. Wer in der ersten Liga der Genforschung spielen will, der braucht Celera.
2. Daher werden weitere Aufträge aus Wirtschaft und Lehre nicht lange auf sich warten lassen.

Das Geschäftsmodell geht auf, deswegen sollte der Kurs nordwärts gehen. Habe heute massiv gekauft. Wann kommen eigentlich die Quartalsergebnisse?

Nachdem es am Freitag lange Zeit wieder danach ausgesehen hat das Celera im Minus schließt, konnte Celera doch knapp im Plus schließen und liegt im Moment bei 96 3/4 Dollar.

Man könnte daraus folgende Schlußfolgerung ziehen, nämlich das alle Unternehmen oder Forschungsinstitute bei Celera Kunden werden müßen im ganz oben mitspielen zu wollen, denn Celera besitzt die beste Datenbank und wird auch immer erster sein wenn es neue Projekte gibt.

Andererseits verwundert es mich das bei allen Meldungen keine Zahlen bezüglich der Einnahmen für die Nutzung der Datenbank bekanntgegeben wurden.

1. Dies wurde nicht bekanntgeben aus dem einfachen Grund das die Partnerfirmen dies nicht wollten oder Celera absichtlich diese Daten zurückhält eventuell in Hinsicht auf die Quartalszahlen. Ich darf erinnern das es folgenden Abschlüsse gab: Immunex, Australische Regierung, Vanderbuilt Uni. im letzten Quartal (das sind die die mir im Moment aus dem kopf einfallen)

2. Man gibt die Nutzung kostenlos frei, zumindest bei den Univeritäten.

1. Man kann von einer Range von ca. 88 - 145 Dollar seit Juli sprechen
2. Wir sind noch ca. 4-5 Dollar von der 200er Linie entfernt, wo nach meiner Meinung ein Widerstand verläuft der für ein Pullpack sorgen wird.
3. RSI zeigt uns das die momentane Abwärtsbewegung nicht allzu stark ist.
4. Die Stochastik ist wieder im stark überverkauften Bereich, allerdings noch mit einer klaren Abwärtstendenz, aber die Stochastik dreht sehr schnell wenn ein Tag dabei ist der nahe am Tageshoch schließt.
5. Momentum zeigt eine ganz klare Abschwächung des Abwärtstrendes und könnte demnächst ein Kaufzeichen bzw. einen Aufwärtstrend generieren.
6. Das Volumen weißt auch eine klare Steigerung auf.

Nun das Chartbild ist eigentlich positiv und was im Gegensatz zu den letzen Chartbildern interessant ist, ist das Momentum, das einer der wichtigsten Oszillatoren überhaupt ist.

BIRMINGHAM, England, July 16 (Reuter) - Craig Venter, head of U.S. firm
Celera Genomics (NYSE:CRA - news) which last month finished the race to
map the human genome, said on Sunday his new goal was to map the
proteins which drive all chemical reactions in the body.

The president and chief scientific officer of the Maryland firm, attending a scientific conference
here, said Celera would spend heavily on a new class of mass spectrometry machines for its
drive into proteomics.

Proteomics involves indentifying the function and inter-relationship between proteins, and their role
in disease.

This new avenue could eventually see Celera move from the simple provision of information to
drug discovery.

``A big part of the business is the straightforward providing of information -- but I`m not complacent
just to do that,`` Venter told reporters.

Mapping of the ``book of life``, or genome, was only the start for Celera which now aimed to work
down the biochemical chain from gene to protein to help indentify diagnostic tests or treatments for
disease, he said.

``We will be moving towards therapeutics but whether we ever ever do a clinical trial ourselves or
not is another matter,`` he added.

Celera`s near-term business plan is to make money by charging drug makers and researchers
subscriptions to giant databases detailing the genetic makeup of humans and other organisms.
Venter expects to finished sequencing the mouse genome by December.

So far his company has signed up six pharmaceutical companies plus research institutions around
the world and Venter said it had committed revenues of more than $200 million.

He declined to say when he expected Celera to make a profit.

The company had revenues of $12.4 million in the year to June 1999 but reported a loss of $43.5
million, reflecting its heavy expenditure on computers and analytical machines.

Celera`s stock hit an all-time high of $252 a share on February 25 -- valuing it at some $14 billion --
but has retreated sharply since then amid some concerns about how fast its business model will
start delivering results. It closed on Friday at $92-5/16.

Most industry analysts do not see Celera turning a profit for around five years.

has subscribed to the company`s databases containing detailed
information about genes of human beings and other organisms.
As part of the deal, Celera has also granted American Home

Celera intellectual property, the company said. Financial
details of the agreement were not disclosed.
American Home`s database subscription gives the Madison,
N.J.-based company access to Celera`s Discovery System, which
includes comprehensive information and tools for viewing,
browsing, and analysing genomic information.
Celera, a unit of PE Corp., previously signed Vanderbilt
University and Harvard University as subscribers. In addition,
a handful of large drugmakers have signed multiyear subscriptions ranging from
$25 million to $50 million a piece,

The databases contain the complete sequence of chemical
pairs that make up the human genome and the entire collection

Mice And Men: Rodent Genome Key to Human Disease

BIRMINGHAM, England (Reuters) - Scientists, fresh from charting the human ``book of life,`` said Monday that making sense of it would depend heavily on comparisons with genomes of other mammals -- starting with the humble mouse.

So-called comparative genomics is the next big idea in the race to unravel the genetic basis of disease, according to researchers attending the 18th International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

By comparing human genes with those in other organisms, scientists believe they can work out more quickly the function of genes and their role in disease. That, in turn, should help drug companies searching for a new generation of gene-based medicines.

``Comparative genomics is going to be the single most important tool going forward in analyzing genomes,`` said Craig Venter, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Celera Genomics (NYSE:CRA - news).

Venter, whose company raised the stakes in the race to map the human genome by sequencing the 3.1 billion chemical ``letters`` of human DNA, said he expected to complete the mouse genome in December this year.

Scientists have already mapped the genomes of a host of lower life forms, including the fruit fly and yeast, but the mouse will be only the second mammal to have its genetic code mapped, after man.

For scientists like John Seidman of Harvard Medical School, who is studying the genetic basis of a heart condition called familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (FHC), publication of the mouse genome will be a real boon.

Seidman is studying how the disease operates in both mice and men -- but it has taken 10 years to identify 10 genes involved in FHC, a complex multi-gene condition, and an unknown number of others have yet to be found.

The ability to overlay the complete mouse genome on the human one should help tease out the missing genes and provide an insight into the biochemical process triggered by genetic mutations.

``It should help dramatically in deciphering the disease process,`` Seidman said.

Mice Just The Start

Researchers and drug firms are already working out the function of genes in mice, which share around 90 percent of their genetic code with humans, by ``knocking out`` certain genes and watching the result.

The process is based on the fact that many of the basic mechanisms that control our bodies have changed little as they have been passed down from species to species through evolution.

As a result, scientists can get a good idea of what a newly discovered human gene does by mutating a similar gene in lower life forms.

``The mouse is extremely important because we can change any gene we wish and mimic exactly the mutation which causes disease in human patients,`` said Jan Hoeijmakers of Erasmus University, who is studying aging processes in mice and men.

Comparative genomics is unlikely to stop at the mouse. Celera and Incyte Pharmaceuticals (NasdaqNM:INCY - news), a rival in genetic information, are among those busily collecting data on other species.

Venter said mapping the genetic blueprint of animals such as the dog, the cat or the rat would be more useful than sequencing close relatives of man, such as the chimpanzee, because there will be more variations to examine.

Already comparative genomics is revealing that humans share a lot more genetic traits with other species than might have been expected. Some of the blocks along the mouse genome which have already been sequenced, for example, are proving impossible to tell apart from the human version

which last month announced sequencing the human genetic
blueprint, is interested in possibly developing antibody-based
drugs to fight cancer and other diseases, Cellera head Craig
Venter said on Thursday.
"We are thinking about developing cancer vaccines down the
road. We haven`t decided whether to do our own clinical
trials," Venter said, referring to so-called therapeutic
vaccines that coax the immune system to step up its attack on
tumors.
Celera currently is only in the information business,
selling genetic information to drug companies and universities,
including databases with information about humans as well as
research organisms, such as the fruit fly and mouse.
Although Celera has not yet decided to widen its business
model to developing drugs, Venter told Reuters at a meeting in
New York he has a personal interest in doing so because his
efforts could theoretically speed development of therapies.
Venter said Celera`s decision whether to develop medicines
will hinge on what discoveries the company makes in the next 24
months as it uses its own sophisticated machines to study the
structure, function and interrelationships between proteins --
a field known as proteomics.

Nun ja so wie es aussieht dürfen wir uns auf steigende Kurse freuen! Was auch keineswegs verwunderlich ist, wenn man z.B. HGSI betrachtet die im Moment bei 157 Dollar stehen und keine derartigen Nachrichten wie Celera gebracht haben!

Ich denke mal der Chart spricht Bände!

1. Das Volumen steigt an!
2. RSI hat die Mittellinie durchstoßen und zeigt damit das der Aufwärtstrend stark sein wird!
3. Slow Stochastik steht noch im normalen Bereich und zeigt uns ebenfalls ein Kaufsignal!
4. Das wichtigste das Momentum ist durch die Nulllinie von unten nach oben durchgestoßen und generiert damit einen klaren Aufwärtstrend und gibt ein klares Kaufzeichen!
5. Die 100er Linie stellt keinen Widerstand mehr da da wir sie heute mit Sicherheit nachhaltig überwinden werden!
6. Die blauen Linien (der Price Channel) zeigen uns sehr schön die momentane Trading Range, was für mich im Moment bedeutet das der Weg bis knapp ca. 140 Dollar widerstandsfrei genommen werden kann, und ein überschreiten der Trading Range könnte den Weg zu noch höheren Kursen frei machen!

Dazu kommt das wahrscheinlich nächste Woche bzw. am 27.07. die Quartalszahlen von Celera kommen!!

Eine Bitte: Du kennst dich doch so gut aus. Habe in meinem Depot auch die Nanogen. Und die sinkt und sinkt. Habe sie gekauft bei 44,50 €.
Hast Du vielleicht eine Ahnung was da abgeht?

- da der Run auf Biotechs in letzter Zeit sehr stark war,was auch
nicht unbemerkbar bei Nanogen blieb (immerhin ca. + 100% seit Tief).
ist es nicht verwunderlich,dass Anlger ihre überwiegend ,,fetten"
Gewinne realisieren
- da Nanogen auch ein sehr spekulativer Wert ist und momentan
charttechnisch angeschlagen ist (vollendete Ausbildung eines Doppel-
Tops mit anschließender Abwärtsbewegung;negativ gestimmte technische
Indikatoren) empfiehlt es sich,da du ja genau auf dem All-Time-High
eingekauft hast bzw. erst dann eingestiegen bist,als der ,,Zug schon
abgefahren war",die Verluste zu begrenzen,sprich die Hälfte deiner
Anteile verkaufen und auf die sowieso noch bevorstehende
Kursexplosion vergleichsweise wie bei den Internetaktien zu warten

Celera likely to move into drug development, analysts say

NEW YORK, July 21 (Reuters) - Celera Genomics (NYSE:CRA - news), the company that last month announced sequencing the human genetic blueprint, will likely follow its itch to jump into the business of drugmaking, analysts predicted on Friday.

The analysts made their predictions a day after Celera`s President and Chief Scientific Officer, Craig Venter, told Reuters he and his company were considering whether to branch out into making drugs for cancer and other diseases.

Celera is not currently involved in drug development. Instead, its sells genomic information on humans and other organisms to large drug companies and universities.

``In the natural scheme of events, it`s probably inevitable that Celera will veer into drug discovery because the company`s genomic discovery technology is also applicable to it,`` said Eric Schmidt, a pharmaceuticals analyst for SG Cowen Securities.

Schmidt noted that Celera`s stock price jumped over $12 a share, or almost 13 percent, on Thursday after Venter disclosed the company was considering developing drugs. Shares rose another 3-5/16 to 112-3/8 on Friday.

``You can see from the stock price that Wall Street is welcoming Venter`s interest`` in drug making, Schmidt added.

Venter said on Thursday in an interview that Celera was interested in possibly developing antibody-based treatments -- naturally occurring proteins that are highly specific in seeking out particular molecular targets linked to various diseases.

Celera`s decision whether to widen the company`s focus to drugs will hinge on what discoveries Celera makes in the next 24 months as it delves into research on proteomics, the study of the structure and function of genes, Venter said.

Winton Gibbons, an analyst for William Blair & Co, said Celera has long planned to supplement its income by selling subscribers actual genes as well as antibodies, proteins which the body makes to fight specific other proteins, or antigens, that are deemed ``foreign.``

``It will supply antibodies so its clients can use them for medical research. But many of the antibodies conceivably could also be used as drugs,`` Gibbons said. That reality may tempt Celera to either keep especially promising antibodies for itself or license them to drugmakers with it being entitled to royalties if they are turned into pharmaceuticals, he added.

``So it may behoove Celera to patent these antibodies and license them as drugs, which would push them more and more deeply into the drug discovery path,`` Gibbons said.

Celera uses highly sophisticated computers as well as ``sequencing`` machines that can quickly read the billions of letters in the genomes, or genetic blueprints, of humans and other organisms. The company is also acquiring new equipment to enable it to study proteins, whose constituent amino acids and their arrangement are programmed by genes.

Schmidt said Celera is planning to spend huge sums of money on the new machines, called mass spectrometers, that could enable it to study the hundreds of thousands of different proteins that drive all chemical reactions in the body.

In its proteomics research, Schmidt said Celera could well discover important proteins that could be used to treat major diseases, thus having huge commercial potential.

``So what do you do in that case? Do you basically give this hugely valuable protein away (to a drugmaker) for $5 million or do you keep it for yourself and turn it into your own blockbuster drug?``

Indeed, proteins can be lucrative medicines. One of the country`s most successful biotechnology companies, Amgen Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMGN - news), makes billions of dollars a year on Epogen and Neupogen, brand names of two naturally occurring proteins that are synthetically altered in the laboratory. They are used, respectively, to treat anaemia and to stimulate production of infection-fighting white blood cells.

In addition, many of the most successful biotech medicines launched in recent years are antibodies, made by exposing them to proteins that are biological targets of disease treatment. They include Genentech Inc`s (NYSENA - news) drug Herceptin for breast cancer and IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp`s (NasdaqNM:IDPH - news) Rituxan for non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Schau dir doch mal den thread des Berner Sennen bei Nanogen an - nur so zum Spaß.
Ich sag dir, bei so viel Hohlköpfen (sorry) verläßt du dich lieber auf deinen eigenen Verstand und Instinkt.

sorry das ich erst jetzt auf Deine Frage antworte, hatte aber leider vorher keine Zeit das Thema Nanogen zu betrachten!

Als erstes muß ich Dir sagen das ich nur die News und Artikel ab Mai gelesen habe und ich mich vorher nicht mit dieser Aktie großartig beschäftigt habe!

Nachrichtenmäßig gibt es für mich keinen Grund diese Aktie zu verkaufen, es sei denn es gab Meldungen die ich nicht gelesen habe oder die ich auf die schnelle nicht gefunden habe.

Ich folge einen Prinzip, das folgendermaßen ausschaut, 1. Buchverluste kann ich verkraften reale Verluste dulde ich nur schwer, 2. ich verkaufe keine Aktie bei der es keine schwerwiegende fundamentalen Gründe vorliegen, d.h. Gewinnwarnung etc. pp!!!

Du mußt Dir im klaren sein ob Du das Geld schnell wiederbrauchst oder ob Du es liegen lassen kannst.

Ich an Deiner Stelle würde falls möglich versuchen die Aktie zu verbilligen, d.h. bei z.B. 25 Dollar nachkaufen!
Damit drückst Du Deinen Einstiegskurs!

Charttechnisch liegt ein Widerstand bei ca. 20 Dollar!

Aber das wichtigste ist, Du mußt Deine eigene Meinung dazu haben und vorallem mußt Du Dir im klaren sein welche Entscheidung Du für "DICH" triffst!

Habe zur Zeit auch Idec Pharma. und Sequenom im Depot.
Beide laut Barchart.com kurzfristig auf Sell eingestuft.
Idec hat ja eigentlich sehr gute QZ vorgelegt,trotzdem geht`s jetzt abwärts.

die Analysen treffen sehr oft zu, bloß meistens sind es kleine Kursbewegungen und nötige Korrekturen, manchmal aber auch heftige Kursbewegungen!

Ich kann Dir nur einen Tip geben, halte nur Aktien von denen Du selber überzeugt bist und wo die Nachrichtenlage gut ist, bei diesem Aktien kannst Du Dich gegen heftige Kursbewegungen nach unten mit einer Stop-Loss Order absichern!

Im Biotech Sektor gibt es wenige Aktien die man nach alten Regeln bewerten kann, diese Aktien enthalten Visionen und Hoffnungen, deshalb gibt es auch oft Korrekturen die eigentlich garnicht passieren dürften rein aus Nachrichtenlage!

Meiner Meinung sind bei Aktien aus dem Biotech Sektor folgende Sachen wichtig! Nachrichtenlage, welche Chance hat die Produkt Pipeline, wie stark ist die Konkurenz!

Hoffe Dir ein bißchen geholfen zu haben!

Denke, das mit dem Marktumfeld ist relativ unerheblich.

Tatsache ist, daß daß der Kurs am Freitag deswegen angestiegen ist, weil neue Spekulationen darüber aufgekommen sind, daß sich Celera nun doch auch in der Medikamentenentwicklung selbst engagiert.

Zudem wird bei Celera z.Zt. einiges in die Entschlüsselung der Proteome investiert. Sollten sie die Leistung dort in der Form wie bei der Genentschlüsselung wiederholen können, könnten sie im Falle eigener Medikamentenentwicklung unschlagbar und uneinholbar sein.

Sie haben dann eine Gendatenbank, verknüpft mit einer Proteindatenbank.

Die PE Gruppe möchte Profits sehen und Celera wird Profits generieren. Und wenn man in der Medikamentenentwicklung noch nicht die Erfahrung hat, kann man sie sich einkaufen.

Nicht einkaufen kann man aber die auf dem neuesten Stand befindliche Gen- und Proteomdatenbank, wenn Celera den Zutritt verweigert.

das Marktumfeld ist heute doch wichtig gewesen, den bei positiven Umfeld wäre Celera bei 118 Dollar gewesen!

Der Kursanstieg auf die Meldung mit den Medikamenten war schon am Donnerstag als Celera 12 % zulegte!

Bei dem Umfeld ist im Moment keiner gewillt großartig einzusteigen!

Der Biotech Index hat die 1200 unterschritten und die Nasdaq die 4000!

Ansonsten gebe ich Dir recht!

Scientific superstar Celera Genomics may be able to turn its serious science into some serious money.

With much fanfare, Celera (NYSE: CRA - news) last month announced it had sequenced the entire human genome. It was a scientific milestone that could provide researchers with something vital: a listing of a genetic code that contains the basic description for creating a human being.

Celera always planned to make money by selling access to its genetic database. One catch: The government-funded Human Genome Project was going to make its own sequenced genome available for free. It begged one question: Is Celera`s database so much better that drug companies and universities would pay to access it?

Maybe. Some scientists are buying access to Celera`s data. Last week, the company reports it signed multiyear agreements selling access to its genetic database to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University. It also recently signed up Harvard University, the Australian Government, biotech company Immunex (Nasdaq: IMNX - news) and drug giant American Home Products (NYSE: AHP - news), the makers of the popular pain reliever Advil.

This sudden flood of deals indicates that Celera`s genetic databases may be more valuable than expected. Even before last month`s genome announcement, drug companies Pfizer (NYSE: PFE - news), Novartis (NYSE: NVS - news), Pharmacia (NYSE: PHA - news) and Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN - news) signed on, as had Vanderbilt University.

For each of those pharmaceutical companies, Celera stands to make as much as $15 million per year. That`s a significant number to Celera; in 1999, the company had revenue of $12.5 million and a net loss after taxes of nearly $45 million.

On the academic front, Celera makes $2,000 to $10,000 for each biologist using its database at a given university. That means a multiyear deal with a university like Vanderbilt can make Celera millions of dollars. That`s not such a big deal when only five universities have signed on, but if the information Celera is offering is really essential, it could hope to sign on hundreds.

Right now, according to researchers at Vanderbilt University, Celera has made more than half the genome available. By comparison, little more than a quarter of the genomic sequence is available from the government`s Human Genome Project.

Celera has another ace in the hole in selling its data to scientists. It will have a copy of the mouse genome much sooner than the government project will.

According to Mark Magnuson, Vanderbilt University`s assistant vice chancellor for research, the lab mouse is central to Celera`s appeal. ``Celera has much more data--human and mouse,`` says Magnuson. ``They are making rapid progress on sequencing the mouse. The public project won`t have that for several years.``

The mouse genes are almost exactly the same as human genes, but experiments can be done on mice that could never be done on people. This makes the mouse vital, both for finding genes among the landscape of junk contained in the genome and for understanding exactly what these genes can do.

Moreover, says Magnuson, the Celera sequences of human DNA are richer than the public ones. Unlike the public sequence, Celera has assembled DNA sequences of several different people. By comparing these sequences, scientists will be able to find the small genetic changes responsible for many diseases. ``It`s a very important thing, both scientifically and medically,`` says Magnuson.

So nachdem ich meinen Festplatte total gekillt habe, als ich WIN Pro. 2000 über WIN 98 laufen lies, bin ich nach knapp 24 Stunden non Stop reparieren und booten wieder online.

So die Zahlen sind raus, meiner Meinung nach nicht schlecht, das die Verluste steigen würden war klar!

ROCKVILLE (dpa-AFX) - Die amerikanische Biotechnologie-Firma Celera Genomics hat für das vierte Quartal eine Verdreifachung des Umsatzes von 5,1 Mio. auf 15 Mio. USD gemeldet. Der Verlust stieg gleichzeitig von 19,9 Mio. USD oder 39 Cent je Aktie auf 24,9 Mio. USD oder 43 Cent je Aktie, teilte das durch die vollständige Zerlegung des menschlichen Genoms bekannt gewordene Unternehmen am Donnerstag mit. Der Quartalsverlust lag deutlich über den Analystenprognosen von durchschnittlich 35 Cent je Aktie. Den Umsatzanstieg trugen nach Unternehmensangaben in erster Linie neue, mehrjährige Abonnements der Genom-Datenbank und das Dienstleistungsgeschäft bei.

Für das Gesamtjahr zum 30.Juni meldete Celera einen Umsatzanstieg von 12,5 Mio. USD im Jahr 1999 auf 42,7 Mio. USD. Der Verlust sei in diesem Zeitraum von 44,9 Mio. The companies, both operating units of PE Corp, hope to revolutionise medicine by mapping and supplying the instruments that map the human gene.

Shares of Pe Biosystems rose 4-1/8 to 84-3/8, while Celera Genomics, which also plans to map the rat, dog and chimpanzee genome, fell 3-11/16 to 100-5/16 in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Robust sales of gene analysing instruments helped lift PE Biosystems profits 26 percent, while Celera posted a loss that was in line with Wall Street predictions.

Foster City, Calif.-based PE Biosystems posted earnings from continuing operations $56.6 million, or 26 cents per diluted share, up from $45 million, or 21 cents, in the year-ago fourth quarter.

Analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial on average expected a profit of 26 cents per share for PE Biosystems.

Net revenues for the quarter, ended June 30, rose 21 percent to $391.8 million, from $323.5 million, a year earlier, excluding operations from a stake it sold in a company and special items.

Rockville, Md.-based Celera Genomics (NYSE:CRA - news), which last month made history by announcing it had finished a rough draft of the human genome, said its quarterly loss, excluding an acquisition charge, was 35 cents a share, matching First Call/Thomson Financial forecasts, on strong sales of gene information subscription services.

The company, which sells genetic data and related services to large drug makers, said its net loss, including the charge, widened 25 percent to $24.9 million, or 43 cents a share, from $19.9 million, or 39 cents a share, a year earlier

Revenues, meanwhile, nearly tripled, rising to $15 million from $5.1 million, a year ago.

Ist leider ein Fehler bei Reuters, Celera liegt sogar unter den Schätzungen, den: Celera reported an after-tax charge of $4.5 million associated with its recent acquisition of Paracel, Inc. Excluding these acquisition-related expenses, Celera`s net loss, after benefit for taxes, was $20.4 million, or $.35 per share.

My desk is swimming in a sea of scribbled notes, Post-Its, and press releases -- the aftermath of two weeks of earnings announcements. Today capped it off with announcements from Celera Genomics (NYSE: CRA) and Starbucks, two very different businesses at different stages of life.

Celera should be (and is) experiencing growing losses. Management raised money to spend it on building a business. Celera`s research and development costs and sales and marketing costs (to increase sales) are rising quickly.

Celera`s Q4 sales topped $15 million
Revenues are rising rapidly, too. Fourth quarter sales topped $15 million, up from $5 million in the same quarter last year, while sales for the year ended on June 30 were $42.7 million, up from $12.5 million the year before. You can read all of the fourth quarter results in Celera`s press release. What I always find most interesting are the conference calls afterwards. There you can usually snag tidbits of additional information. You can hear Celera`s call replay through its homepage.

Aside from disclosure of a sales and marketing buildout, the conference call provided word that Celera`s revenue could double in its new fiscal year, topping $84 million. The company expects to continue to add new subscribers rapidly. Celera`s president and chief scientific officer, Dr. Craig Venter, stated that the company`s mouse genome has been a key asset in driving subscription growth. The human genome by itself is "absolutely useless," he said, unless you have other genomes, namely the mouse, to compare it to. Celera also stated that the average subscription to data that includes the mouse genome costs at least $5 million annually.

Dr. Venter next said that the company is building a discovery engine on a scale that has never been done before, as it did with its sequencing engine. The focus is on proteomics. For ways to invest in proteomics leaders, consider buying the Soapbox.com report on proteomics.) With proteomics as the foundation, Celera will find targets for disease that can lead to therapeutics. The company is focused on antibodies on a large scale. Depending on how its discovery process unrolls, Celera may either partner or go it alone in developing cures for disease following discoveries.

That decision -- whether or not to produce its own drugs -- will be based mainly on discovery. It will depend upon what Celera discovers and when. Don`t expect any decisive decisions on the issue for a few years. Plus, parent company Applied Biosystems (NYSE: PEB) did say that the company will stay focused on its expertise -- discovery -- and it would take a good deal to make Celera move into drug trials, production and marketing, something that the pharmaceutical leaders already do very well.

So, in summary for Celera:

Revenues could double in the next twelve months to top $84 million.


Subscriber numbers are expected to grow rapidly.


R&D and sales and marketing costs will rise rapidly.


The cash balance, at more than $1 billion, is enough to fund the foreseeable future.


Proteomics and antibodies are a focus of Celera`s new discovery engine.


The end goal is to cure disease.

„Craig Venter ist ein Arschloch.“ So wird ein Mitarbeiter des „Human Genome Project“ im „New Yorker“ zitiert. Ein doppelter Paradigmenwechsel: die Verwendung des A-Worts im Hausblatt der Ostküsten-Intelligentsia; und die Tatsache, dass seit einiger Zeit nicht nur Literaten und Künstler, Politiker und Salonlöwen mit einem Porträt im Magazin geehrt werden, sondern auch ein Techno-Guru wie George Gilder oder ein - ja was? - wie Craig Venter.
Der Chef der Firma Celera Genomics, der als Außenseiter beim Rennen um die Entschlüsselung des menschlichen Genoms dem staatlich subventionierten Favoriten „Human Genome Project“ den Rang ablief, verkörpert einen weiteren Paradigmenwechsel: president ist er und chief scientific officer, Unternehmenschef und Chefwissenschaftler in einer Person. Er steht, so „New Yorker“-Autor Richard Preston, „mit einem Fuß in der Welt der reinen Wissenschaft und mit dem anderen in einem Eimer voller Geld“. Seine Konkurrenten haben andere Bezeichnungen parat: James Watson, der für seine Entdeckung der „Doppelhelix“-Struktur der DNA 1962 den Nobelpreis erhielt und das „öffentliche“ Genomprojekt initiierte, bezeichnete Venter bei einer Senatsanhörung als „Affen“ und vor Kollegen als „Hitler“.
Venter selbst sieht sich als neuen Galileo Galilei. „Mit dem wollten sie auch eine Grillparty veranstalten, stimmt’s?“, erzählte er Preston. „Ich vergleiche mich nicht mit Galileo als Genie, aber ich werde das Genom veröffentlichen, und darin liegt die Bedrohung der öffentlichen Ordnung.“
Wer Bertolt Brechts Galilei-Stück kennt, das - so ist die Macht der der Schullektüre - bis heute unser Bild des Physikers prägt, erinnert sich, wie sich die Titelgestalt Vorwürfe macht, seine Forschungsergebnisse nicht veröffentlicht zu haben: „In meiner Zeit erreichte die Astronomie die Marktplätze. Unter diesen ganz besonderen Umständen hätte die Standhaftigkeit eines Mannes große Erschütterungen hervorrufen können.“
Keine Frage, mit Venter hat die Genetik die Marktplätze erreicht: Erst 1998 gegründet, war Celera der heißeste Börsentipp des letzten Winters. Nachdem auch der Börsenprophet Jeff Fischer Celera-Aktien gekauft hatte, schoss deren Wert himmelwärts. Wie in den USA üblich, erhalten Mitarbeiter beim Eintritt ein Aktienpaket, und kurz vor Weihnachten konnte Venter räsonnieren: „200 Millionäre haben wir in der Firma geschaffen. Das konnte nur in Amerika passieren. Man muss dieses Land einfach lieben.“
Was die „Erschütterungen“ angeht, so könnten sie kaum größer sein. Hier hat der mit Venter assoziierte Paradigmenwechsel - um das strapazierte Wort ein letztes Mal zu verwenden - die Ausmaße eines Erdbebens. James Watson hatte 1987 30 Millionen Dollar jährlich vom Kongress verlangt und als Zieldatum für die Entschlüsselung des menschlichen Genoms das Jahr 2005 genannt. Vier große Zentren in den USA darunter Institute des MIT und des Energieministeriums, ein weiteres in Großbritannien sowie zahlreiche kleinere Einrichtungen weltweit waren an den Arbeiten beteiligt. Nach fünf Jahren - das Jahresbudget hatte sich inzwischen verdoppelt - hieß es in einem internen Papier jedoch, bis 2005 wären nur etwas mehr als 50 Prozent des Genoms zu entschlüsseln. Danach dümpelte das Projekt vor sich hin.
Auftritt Craig Venter. 1998 verkündete er, Celera werde das menschliche Genom bis zum Jahre 2001 entschlüsseln und dafür insgesamt 150 bis 200 Millionen Dollar brauchen. Bekanntlich ging es dann sogar noch schneller, hauptsächlich weil es zu einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Celera und dem subventionierten Genomprojekt kam. Der Mantel der Kooperation verdeckte aber nur mühsam die gezückten Degen.
„Alle sind stinksauer auf Craig“, erzählte ein jüngerer Wissenschaftler beim „Human Genome Project“. Watson habe eine Menge Geld vom Kongress bekommen und es seinen Freunden gegeben, den Chefs der verschiedenen Institute. „Allein in den USA gab es 17 Zentren und keine Qualitätskontrolle. Egal wie schlecht deine Daten waren, du hast sie eben produziert...“
Nachdem Venter den Fehdehandschuh hingeworfen hatte, wurde aus dem warmen Subventionsregen ein gezielter Fluss in die wenigen leistungsfähigen Einrichtungen. Die abgehalfterten Wissenschaftler „hängen bei Arbeitstreffen herum, und dann heißt es: Wenn ihr ganz, ganz lieb seid, geben wir euch ein Stück vom Mausgenom.“
„Freier Handel, freie Forschung. Freier Handel mit der Forschung, wie?“, murrt Brechts Galilei, und entscheidet sich für die Fleischtöpfe der staatlich geförderten, vom Vatikan auf politische Korrektheit hin kontrollierten, also unfreien, Forschung. Dass Venter Galileis Sündenfall nicht wiederholt, sondern sozusagen rückgängig macht (er war jahrelang Mitarbeiter im „Human Genome Project“), dass er den Konnex zwischen freiem Handel und freier Forschung bejaht, das nehmen ihm allerdings gerade mit Brecht groß gewordene Intellektuelle übel.
Man wirft Venter vor, seine Ergebnisse „privatisieren“ zu wollen, während die mit öffentlichen Mitteln finanzierten Ergebnisse allgemein zugänglich sein sollen. Stimmt; aber für sich genommen ist die „Schrift“ des Genoms, die „Sprache Gottes“, wie Bill Clinton sagt, so aufschlussreich wie die Tora für einen, der kein Hebräisch kann. Deshalb schießen immer neue Firmen aus dem Boden, die ihre Dienste zur Textauslegung anbieten. Einer der wichtigsten Konkurrenten Venters bei diesem potenziell lukrativen Geschäft ist übrigens eine Firma, an der zu 50 Prozent Sun Microsystems beteiligt ist - die Firma Bill Joys, der so beredt vor den Gefahren der Gentechnik in den falschen Händen warnt
„Den gefeiertesten Wahrheiten wird auf die Schulter geklopft; was nie bezweifelt wurde, wird jetzt bezweifelt.“ So, im pathetischen Brecht-Duktus, Galilei. Und Venter: „Meine Ansicht über die Biologie ist: Wir wissen einen Scheißdreck`.“ Weil das „Arschloch“ geldgierig, ehrgeizig, respektlos, ressentimentgeladen und schlicht neugierig ist, wissen wir inzwischen ein klein wenig mehr.

Was ist Eure Meinung?

Hier der aktuelle Chart von Celera:



1. Als Unterstützung bei 90 Dollar läuft die 200er Linie, desweiteren kann diese Marke als Unterstützung gesehen werden, da sie, wie John schon geschrieben hat, in den letzten Wochen als Widerstand gedient hat. Ob sie hält ist die Frage, den beim einem derarten Umfeld würde ich für nichts die Hand ins Feuer legen.
2. Der restliche Chart braucht denke ich nicht gross interpretiert werden.
3. Werde auf jeden Fall eine Stop Loss setzen, den wenn die 90 nicht hält könnten wir bis 50 oder 60 Dollar fallen.
