SanDisk Announces Record Revenue, Royalties and Operating Income for Second Quarter 2000

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK), the world`s largest supplier of flash memory data storage products, today announced record revenue for its quarter ended June 30, 2000. Total second quarter revenues were $143.9 million, an increase of 174% from the second quarter of 1999 due primarily to increased revenues from CompactFlash and MultiMediaCard products and higher license and royalty revenues. Product revenues were $122.6 million, an increase of 190% from $42.3 million for the same period last year. Revenues from licenses and royalties were $21.4 million, up 109% from $10.2 million in the second quarter of 1999. Net income for the quarter was $24.3 million, up 326% compared to $5.7 million in the same period last year. In the second quarter, diluted earnings per share were $0.33, compared to $0.10 per share in the second quarter of 1999.

Total second quarter revenues increased sequentially by $34.6 million, or 32%, from total revenues of $109.4 million for the first quarter of 2000. Product revenues increased 26% and revenue from licenses and royalties grew 76%. Current quarter diluted earnings per share increased to $0.33 per share, up 57% compared to $0.21 per share (net the one-time gain related to the USIC merger) for the first quarter of 2000.

"The second quarter was an outstanding quarter for SanDisk with total revenues and operating income reaching record highs," said Dr. Eli Harari, President and CEO of SanDisk. "Business conditions during the quarter continued very strong. We experienced record bookings and order backlog is at an all time high. Revenues in the first half of 2000 exceeded revenues for all of fiscal 1999, and operating income for the second quarter exceeded operating income for the entire year of 1999. Sales of our MultiMediaCards for use in MP3 players, digital camcorders and smart phones approached one million units, and total unit sales reached a record three million units for the quarter. Product gross margins improved from 30% in the previous quarter to 31%. We are pleased with the large increase in royalty revenues from our current licensees, which is indicative of the strong growth in the Flash memory card markets that we pioneered.

"Sales growth improved sequentially in all geographic regions of the world, particularly in North America and Europe. Retail and OEM sales were strong worldwide, continuing the trend started in the fourth quarter.

"Looking forward to the next several quarters, we expect our markets to remain supply constrained and the pricing environment for our products to remain benign. Our primary focus is to increase our shippable flash memory capacity in time for the upcoming holiday sales season through flash memory process shrinks and the qualification of additional fab capacity. During the third quarter, we expect to complete qualification and begin production shipments of our .24 micron 256Mbit D2 technology from three UMC fabs, including their newest fab 8F. We have also started first customer shipments of NAND Flash memory from Toshiba`s Japanese fab. Toshiba is supplying us NAND wafers under the strategic agreement we concluded in the second quarter. We are optimistic about our prospects for further growth in revenues and profits in the second half of this year."

SanDisk Corporation, the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.

SanDisk`s second quarter 2000 conference call is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, July 19. The phone number is 973/633-1010.

This news release contains forward looking statements including our expectations for future product revenues and bookings, average selling prices, gross margin and profits that are based on current expectations and involve risks and uncertainties that may affect our business, financial condition and results of operations. In addition to the factors discussed above, other risks include: the availability of adequate supply of flash memory wafers from UMC in Taiwan and from other sources; the availability of other critical materials and components; the timely and successful manufacturing ramp up of new product generations and new foundries with acceptable yields and manufacturing costs; the timely introduction and acceptance of new consumer products that incorporate our flash storage devices; future average selling price erosion due to excess capacity and price competition; the successful ramp up of assembly operations in China, Taiwan and the Philippines; seasonality of product sales; success in developing brand name preference and an efficient distribution system for SanDisk`s products in the retail channel; economic conditions and exchange rates in Japan, the Pacific Rim and other geographic regions as they affect SanDisk`s customers; the successful development and launch of our Secure Digital cards products; and the other risks detailed from time to time in our Securities and Exchange Commission filings and reports, including, but not limited to, the Form 10Q for the quarter ended March 31, 2000 and the Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 1999. Future results may differ materially from those previously reported. We assume no obligation to update the information in this release.

      Hallo SanDisk Fans,

      mal was kritisches:

SSTI macht in 2000 erste Gewinne.

      PiratPilot

      PS:
Beide Firmen sitzen in Sunnyvale, California.

      @PiratPilot

SanDisk Will Supply Canon U.S.A. with Flash Memory MultiMediaCards for New Canon Elura 2MC Digital Camcorder

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today that it will supply Canon U.S.A., Inc. with flash memory MultiMediaCards for Canon`s new Elura 2MC, a pocket-size hybrid digital video camcorder with the ability to meet a variety of still, motion and multimedia image capture needs. A SanDisk 8 megabyte (MB) MultiMediaCard will be included with the sale of every Elura 2MC.

The Elura 2MC measures 1 7/8 x 4 1/8 x 3 3/8-inches, about the size of a man`s wallet, and weighs slightly more than one pound with battery and tape. It records video and still images to the universal MiniDV digital videocassette. To manage, retrieve and download still images more efficiently, the Elura 2MC accepts the MultiMediaCard (MMC), an industry standard storage media.

Key features of the Elura 2MC include three shooting modes, Firewire(TM) computer connectivity, 10x optical/40x digital zoom, image stabilization, a high-resolution rotating view screen and viewfinder, and digital stereo sound. Advanced technology components include a progressive scan CCD image sensor, RGB primary color filter and a three-element stereo microphone.

"Elura 2MC is a perfect example of how Canon technology is constantly raising the bar," said Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at SanDisk. "Canon is pushing the limits of miniaturization, style and functionality, packing multiple shooting modes and storage media into a revolutionary new camcorder size."

Mike Zorich, senior marketing manager, video products, Canon U.S.A., Inc., said, "The Elura 2MC expands imaging versatility by recording still images on the standardized MultiMediaCard. This rugged, ultra-light media -- the size of a postage stamp -- makes it easy to store, retrieve, view and download images to a personal computer or printer."

When recording still images to the MultiMediaCard, images are compressed and stored in the JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) format. Users may select one of two image quality modes: Fine -- recording about 60 images suitable for making prints, or Standard -- recording approximately 105 images appropriate for email attachments or a personal website. Both modes record images in 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution. Higher capacity SanDisk 16, 32 and 64MB MultiMediaCards, capable of storing a greater quantity of still images, are available at numerous computer and electronics retail outlets.

The manufactured suggested retail price for the Elura 2MC is $1,799, and it will be available to retailers in September 2000.

Speichermedien: IBM attackiert mit Microdrive-Festplatten den Markt für Flash-Speicherchips
      VDI nachrichten, 9.7.1999

einige Dutzend MByte an Speicherkapazität.
Dollar, so
Samsung.

In drei Jahren könnten bereits
20 Gbit auf gleicher Fläche verfügbar sein. IBM hat bereits entsprechende Labordemonstrationen erfolgreich
abgeschlossen.

SanDisk and Photo-Me Bring Digital Photography to the Mass Consumer Market; Two Companies Form New Joint Venture to Produce High Quality Digital Film Photo Vending Kiosks for Consumers

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) and Photo-Me International (PMI) (PHTM.L) today announced that they have formed a joint venture which will allow millions of digital camera owners to obtain digital prints easily, quickly, and inexpensively without the necessity of a personal computer or a high quality printer. The new joint venture, called Digital Portal Inc. (DPI), will manufacture kiosks (self vending digital photo labs) and place them for consumer use in North America and other regions of the world. The two companies believe that the joint venture will give consumers low cost, high quality photo prints of digitally captured images and thereby enhance significantly the instant gratification that digital photography offers. It also will simplify the digital camera experience for users by expanding the options available for printing digital images. Deployment of the kiosks, which will bear the SanDisk name, is expected to start by the end of this year.

The kiosks will be the world`s first silver halide process self service kiosks. The kiosks will enable digital camera owners to quickly, conveniently and inexpensively obtain prints by inserting their digital film flash memory cards, floppy disks or CD ROMs into the kiosks. Consumers also will be able to upload their personal files of digital pictures either from the kiosk or from their home PC to the DPI Internet site where the photos can be accessed by friends and relatives. An individual in New York City, for example, could upload pictures of a family celebration to the DPI web site and a relative in San Francisco could visit his local kiosk, download the file under a unique user pass key and select what pictures to print while he or she waits.

Eli Harari, President and CEO of SanDisk, said, "This joint venture represents a major step forward in popularizing digital photography, and is very good news to consumers, digital camera manufacturers and flash memory card suppliers. Through this joint venture with Photo Me, SanDisk is helping to create for digital camera users a photo print experience that is more satisfying and exciting than their current experience with regular photography. We are very fortunate to be in this strategic and exclusive partnership with Photo-Me, the worldwide market leader in digital photo printing technology. It is our hope that the activities of the joint venture will further increase SanDisk`s presence in the retail channel and enhance SanDisk`s brand name as the global market leader for flash memory cards."

Serge Crasnianski, chief executive officer of PMI, said, "We believe that the two companies have the desire and experience to bring digital photography to the millions of people who haven`t yet used a digital camera. SanDisk is the world`s largest supplier of flash memory cards and Photo-Me is the world`s largest producer of photo kiosk machines for consumers. The digital photography market has barely started, and we expect that Digital Portal will play a major role in accelerating the sale of digital cameras and flash memory cards."

The kiosks bring five critical elements: First, superb photo quality, made possible by the PMI patented LCD Booster technology, which provides a picture resolution of 15 million pixels, far in excess of the resolution of any digital camera. Second, high quality silver halide processing, the same process as used in 1 hour print services. Third, a simple, interactive and user friendly interface which will personalize the print selection process in a way not possible with over the counter 1 hour photo printing services. Fourth, a price per print matching that of 1 hour prints today while outputting the first 4 x 6 print in less than three minutes and with an additional fifteen seconds for each subsequent print. Fifth, web connectivity to allow the user to share the digital photo experience.

It is expected that the new venture will increase the sale of flash memory cards because the kiosks will be deployed in many locations where SanDisk memory cards can be purchased. The kiosks also will enable SanDisk to engage in cross-promotional activities at retail outlets.

SanDisk and PMI will each make an initial investment of $4 million and secure lease financing for purchasing of the kiosks. PMI will manufacture the kiosks for the joint venture, and will install and maintain the kiosks under contract from the joint venture. Each company will own 50 percent of DPI. The joint venture will be headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Further details about the kiosks and DPI will be announced at the Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany, Sept. 20 - 25, along with details on the first major retailers who will place the kiosks in their stores in early 2001. The kiosks will be demonstrated at the show where both SanDisk and PMI will have booths.

Both companies anticipate that the kiosks, once widely deployed, will quickly become popular because they will accept virtually any storage media used in digital cameras today including CompactFlash(TM) and SmartMedia cards, MultiMediaCards, Secure Digital cards, the Memory Stick, floppy disks and CD ROMs.

PMI, inventor of the 1 Hour Photo Processing concept, is the worldwide leader in photo kiosk vending machines. The company is based in Grenoble, France.

      Hi MarkV

SanDisk Corporation Listed On Fortune Magazine`s Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the Nation

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the world`s largest supplier and market leader of flash data storage products, has been named to Fortune magazine`s prestigious list of the nation`s 100 fastest growing companies in its Sept. 4 issue, recognizing SanDisk`s outstanding performance over the past three years.

Eli Harari, president and CEO of SanDisk said, "We are tremendously pleased that Fortune magazine has recognized our efforts to place SanDisk at the top of the flash data storage market. The markets that our pioneering storage technology are enabling, such as our CompactFlash cards replacing regular film in digital cameras and our MultiMediaCards replacing tape in MP3 music players, are just now coming into their own, and are projected to show accelerated growth over the next several years. SanDisk is exceptionally well positioned to benefit from this projected growth."

In selecting the list of 100 companies, Fortune editors studied firms that have been in operation in the U.S. for the past three years with revenues and a market capitalization of at least $50 million. The list was then narrowed to those companies with a 30 percent annual growth rate during the three years in both revenue and earnings per share plus positive earnings the latest quarter. Those companies were then ranked by growth in revenue, EPS, and total stock market return over three years. The scores from those three categories were then added up. SanDisk was ranked 34th on the list of 100 top companies.

In its first and second quarter reports, total revenue for SanDisk was $253 million surpassing all the revenue it reported last year. SanDisk, which shipped five million flash cards in 1999, already has shipped more than five million flash cards in the first half of this year.

Harari, an authority on flash memory technology, founded SanDisk Corporation in 1988. The firm pioneered the industry development of flash memory cards for data storage and played a key role in setting many flash industry standards. Its CompactFlash cards, MultiMediaCards, Secure Digital cards and PC cards are widely used for digital cameras, cellular telephones, digital music players, digital camcorders, handheld PCs, global positioning systems, personal communicators, car navigation systems and electronic books. SanDisk invented the PC-ATA and CompactFlash cards and co-invented the MultiMediaCard and Secure Digital cards, all of which have become industry standards. The company holds more than one hundred patents in this field.

Lexar Media sues SanDisk in patent dispute

WILMINGTON, Delaware, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Lexar Media Inc <LEXR.O> sued SanDisk Corp <SNDK.O> on Thursday for alleged infringement of a Lexar patent for flash memory storage chips.

In papers filed in the U.S. District Court in Delaware, Lexar said SanDisk flash memory products, including its "SmartMedia" cards, drivers and readers, allegedly infringed Lexar`s patent for a "Flash memory mass storage architecture incorporation wear leveling technique."

The 1993 patent was originally assigned to Cirrus Logic Inc and acquired by Lexar in 1996. Lexar seeks a jury trial on its demands that SanDisk be blocked from further alleged infringement and that Lexar be awarded unspecified damages, tripled for alleged wilful infringement.

Sunnyvale, California-based SanDisk called Lexar`s claims "unfounded and lacking in merit" and said it would vigorously defend itself against its claims.

In a statement issued late on Thursday, SanDisk chief executive Eli Harari called the suit, "a desperation move by Lexar to buttress its weak position in the pending litigation between SanDisk and Lexar before the U.S. District Court in San Francisco."

The federal court in San Francisco ruled in April that Lexar`s CompactFlash and PC cards infringed on patents owned by SanDisk. Damages in that case are expected to be assessed in a trial that begins October 23.

Flash memory chips, unlike traditional storage chips, always maintain a charge, providing instant use. That feature is favoured in such applications as digital cameras and mobile telephones.

Lexar, of Fremont, California, sells removable and usable digital film in four industry formats: CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SmartMedia and PC Cards.

SanDisk is the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products including CompactFlash Cards, MultiMedia Cards, Secure Digital cards.

SanDisk shares ended up $4- at $86- on the Nasdaq on Thursday, while Lexar shares ended down at $14-1/4.

SanDisk Calls Patent Infringement Suit Filed Against It by Lexar Unfounded and Lacking in Merit

      Business Wire - September 08, 2000 14:23

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdq:SNDK) described as unfounded and lacking in merit a patent infringement suit filed against it today by Lexar Media, Inc. The suit alleges that SanDisk`s SmartMedia cards, readers and drivers infringe on a Lexar patent (No. 5,479,638) and seeks to enjoin the sales of these products and unspecified damages.

Eli Harari, president and CEO of SanDisk, called the suit, "A desperation move by Lexar to buttress its weak position in the pending litigation between SanDisk and Lexar before the U.S. District Court in San Francisco." He referred to a court order already obtained by SanDisk which holds that all of Lexar`s current CompactFlash and PC cards contributorily infringe on a SanDisk patent (U.S. Patent No. 5,602,987).

The latest suit was filed on September 7, 2000 by Lexar in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware where both firms are incorporated.

Harari strongly stressed that Lexar`s allegations are completely unfounded. SanDisk said it plans to vigorously defend itself against Lexar`s claims. SanDisk also pointed out that the SmartMedia cards, readers and drivers referred to in Lexar`s complaint are purchased by SanDisk from third parties, who design and manufacture the products.

SanDisk`s lawsuit against Lexar is scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 23, 2000 before the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Having already proven infringement, SanDisk is seeking damages for willful infringement, the recovery of its legal expenses, plus a permanent injunction against Lexar`s sales of their current CompactFlash and PC card products.

Should SanDisk win its lawsuit, Lexar would be required to cease the sale of its current CompactFlash and PC card products and develop redesigned products that avoid infringement of the `987 patent. Lexar has stated in its Aug. 8, 2000 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, related to its initial public offering, that Lexar "cannot be certain that the redesigned products will have all the functionality, including the high write speed, of (its) current products."

Harari noted that "SanDisk has all along held that the innovations of SanDisk`s `987 patent teach precisely those critical elements of high performance and high reliability, and we welcome an outcome of the current `987 litigation which would result in Lexar`s redesign of its CompactFlash and PC card products."

SanDisk, founded in 1988, is the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products and designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. Individual Investor Magazine Ranks SanDisk One of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the Nation

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRES)--Sept. 11, 2000--Individual Investor Magazine has ranked SanDisk Corp (NASDAQ: SNDK) on its annual list of the 100 fastest growing companies in the United States. Individual Investor, a nationally prominent investor publication with a circulation exceeding a half million subscribers, ranked SanDisk 55th on its list of top 100 companies.

In selecting SanDisk, Individual Investor magazine cited the Silicon Valley corporation`s "surging demand for products that depend on flash memory (that) pushed sales at SanDisk to $247 million last year, 82 percent more than in 1998, and have helped keep the company profitable every quarter since it went public in 1995. In the most recent quarter, SanDisk posted a revenue gain of 148 percent with earnings per share jumping 200 percent from the same quarter a year earlier."

Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at SanDisk, said, "We are delighted that Individual Investor Magazine has selected us for this distinction, especially since two weeks ago, Fortune magazine also placed us on its annual list of the 100 fastest growing companies in the United States. SanDisk has been recognized by Individual Investor magazine for its outstanding efforts in providing products that are in such high demand that we are the world`s leader in the flash data storage market. Our pioneering storage technology that includes our CompactFlash card is replacing film in cameras while our MultiMediaCard is replacing tape in MP3 music players. They are just coming into their own and are expected to demonstrate accelerated growth over the next several years."

SanDisk`s strong growth is demonstrated by the fact that in the first half of this year, it has already shipped more than five million cards, exceeding the five million cards it shipped for all of 1999. The Sunnyvale firm reported total revenue of $253 million for the first and second quarters of 2000, surpassing all the revenue it reported last year.

SANDISK TO OFFER SMARTMEDIA MEMORY CARDS IN JAPAN
TOKYO, Sep 12, 2000 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- SanDisk KK, the Japanese arm ofU.S. parent SanDisk Corp., will begin marketing SmartMedia memory cards in Japan from the end of September.

To date, the Yokohama firm has largely been selling its CompactFlash memory cards, a SanDisk-developed product. The CompactFlash card has been in competition with the SmartMedia product, which is being promoted by Toshiba Corp. (6502).

Consequently, SanDisk has decided to offer a wider range of products in order to capture a broader market share. Products that use the storage medium, such as digital cameras and personal computers, are growing more popular.

SanDisk will offer SmartMedia cards in three different capacities in Japan: 16MB, 32MB and 64MB cards.

Toshiba will initially handle manufacturing, and SanDisk will within the year procure the cards from FlashVision LLC, a joint manufacturing venture founded in the U.S. state of Virginia by SanDisk and Toshiba.

A 64MB card is expected to sell for about Y20,000 yen ($US190.80) yen.

A number of memory card products are on the market including the MemoryStick of Sony Corp. (6758).

In the Japanese market, the SmartMedia cards are dominant, and the CompactFlash cards are popular with U.S. consumers.

      Danke für die Infos EHF,
was denkst Du, kann man Sandisk übers Jahr behalten?

SanDisk and PMI Demonstrate World`s First Silver Halide Processing Digital Photo Kiosk; High Quality Prints From the Kiosk and Ease of Use Expected to Attract Digital Camera Owners

COLOGNE, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) and Photo-Me International (PMI)(PHTM.L) today unveiled the world`s first silver halide processing digital photo kiosk at a news conference here, demonstrating capabilities that are expected to allow millions of digital camera owners to easily and economically obtain top quality digital prints from kiosks.

During the session, officials photographed audience members with a digital camera, they then inserted flash data storage cards into the kiosk, edited the photos on the kiosk`s display screen then quickly printed them on high quality photographic paper via the kiosk. The demonstration at a hotel here was in conjunction with Photokina, the world`s largest imaging industry exposition where SanDisk is demonstrating its products in Hall 5, A-ll during the event. PMI is demonstrating its products in Hall 5.1, F12G11.

SanDisk and PMI, a British company, expect the kiosks, bearing the name of SanDisk, will start to be deployed for consumer use in North America by the end of this year. SanDisk and PMI, which have formed a joint venture called Digital Portal Inc. (DPI) to operate the kiosks throughout North America, expect they will provide consumers with low cost, high quality photo prints of digitally captured images that will enhance the instant gratification that digital photography offers.

Besides printing photos, the DPI kiosks will allow consumers to upload their personal files of digital pictures either from the kiosk or from their home PC to the DPI photographic portal partners where the photos can be accessed by friends and relatives. The feature will allow an individual in New York City, for example, to upload pictures of a family celebration to the DPI web site. A relative in San Francisco could then visit his local kiosk, download the file under a unique user pass key and select what pictures to print immediately from the kiosk.

The kiosk`s acceptability of most storage media used in digital cameras is expected to make the kiosks widely popular. Each kiosk will have the capability of accepting digital film flash memory cards used in digital cameras today including CompactFlash(TM), SmartMedia cards, MultiMediaCards and Secure Digital cards.

Besides accepting a variety of digital storage media the DPI kiosk will provide consumers with five highly efficient and innovative services: first, superior photo quality by the PMI patented LCD Booster technology, which provides a picture resolution of 15 million pixels, far in excess of the resolution of any digital camera; second, high quality Silvertronix(TM) technology (Silvertronix(TM) is the name given to combining silver halide processing and LCD booster technology) which is the same process used in 1-hour photo print services; third, a simple, interactive and user friendly interface; fourth, a price per print matching today`s cost of 1 hour prints while developing the first 4 x 6 print in approximately two minutes and an additional 20 seconds for each subsequent print; and fifth, web connectivity to allow the user to share the digital photo experience.

It is expected that the new venture will accelerate the sale of digital cameras and the widespread adoption of digital photography.

PMI is the worldwide leader in photo kiosk vending machines. The company is based in Bookham, Surrey, United Kingdom.

SanDisk Corporation, the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk and Toshiba Announce the Development of Highest Density NAND Flash Memory

      SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000--

Jointly Developed 512 Megabit NAND Flash To Start Customer Sampling in Q4, Will Increase Capacity, Performance Of Flash Data Storage Products

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) and Toshiba Corporation issued a joint statement today that they have completed the joint development of the industry`s highest capacity NAND flash memory single-chip 512-megabit (Mbit) device. The new chip will expand SanDisk`s and Toshiba`s line-up of high capacity flash memories and flash card products. The 512Mbit device is the first result of the joint development partnership announced between the two companies on May 9, 2000.

Both companies will independently market the 512Mbit chip to their respective customers. Use of the device is expected to greatly expand the capabilities of cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 audio players and other products that use embedded flash or removable flash cards for data storage.

The new 512Mbit chip is based on Toshiba`s advanced 0.16 micron process technology. Initial production will be at Toshiba`s advanced production facility at Yokkaichi, Japan. The 512Mbit will also be the first NAND chip to be produced at the Dominion Semiconductor, Virginia manufacturing facility under the FlashVision company jointly established by Toshiba and SanDisk for this purpose. Dominion is on schedule for starting 0.16micron NAND production by midyear 2001, as planned.

Future SanDisk flash card products which utilize the new 512Mbit NAND chip have been specially designed to have significantly higher write performance.

"We are extremely pleased with this jointly developed leading edge flash memory technology," said Sanjay Mehrotra, SanDisk senior vice president of engineering. "Even though SanDisk`s engineers joined this program while it was already in the advanced stage of development, the cooperation between SanDisk and Toshiba has been mutually open and exceptionally productive. This first result of our long-term strategic agreement significantly raises the bar for the competition. The new 0.16 micron NAND technology will serve as an excellent platform for other advanced NAND products that are currently under joint development. We believe the 512Mbit NAND will bring tremendous benefits to our customers and allow SanDisk and Toshiba to maintain our respective market leadership positions in the growing flash storage markets we address."

Hitachi, SanDisk extend flash memory patent pact

TOKYO, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics giant Hitachi Ltd <6501.T> and U.S. data storage company SanDisk Corp <SNDK.O> said on Tuesday they have extended their patent cross-licensing agreement to the multi-level cell (MLC) flash memory technology.

The move is aimed at sharing their MLC technologies, which allow enlarged data storage capacity of flash memory, to speed up their development for new memory products to be used in digital cameras, portable music players and hand-held computers.

Under the new agreement, the two firms can use each other`s patents related to binary and MLC flash memory in any of their products, with some exclusion of proprietary technology, they said in a statement.

As a part of the pact, Hitachi, one of the top five Japanese semiconductor makers, will supply some of its flash memory products to SanDisk, the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products, they added. Terms of the pact were not disclosed.

Hitachi and SanDisk had signed a similar cross-licensing contract on binary flash memories in 1997.

The system provides comparisons for overseas shipping rates and produces all required paperwork to ship packages internationally, thereby cutting costs while improving time-to-delivery.

DigitalShipper Enterprise, powered by Kewill systems, is a complete, automated shipping solution that enhances customer service by providing e-mail notifications when orders are shipped, status for existing orders, and real time tracking of packages shipped. The solution also allows vendors to track, audit and produce reports providing valuable information to analyze patterns and forecast shipping needs.

"Managing shipping and tracking distribution is crucial to our business," said Jose Flahaux, Vice President of Worldwide Order Fulfillment at SanDisk. "We needed a system to integrate our shipping processes both domestically and internationally and we chose E-Stamp`s DigitalShipper Enterprise because of the solution`s ability to work with our existing system. The added value of the real-time tracking feature and the ability to audit our shipping activity will help us manage our customer service goals."

"SanDisk`s implementation of our shipping solution is an excellent demonstration E-Stamp`s evolution as a company," says Robert (Bo) Ewald, President and CEO of E-Stamp. "With E-Stamp Internet Postage, our DigitalShipper family of products, and our e-warehouse supply chain execution system, we have created a suite of cost-effective, secure, Internet based logistics systems that help businesses such as SanDisk operate more efficiently and conveniently as they move critical business processes onto the Internet."

According to a 1999 IDC study on the transformation of the logistics process outsourcing market, today`s logistics business has "expanded to a more holistic, integrated, IT-driven approach. Customer spending on U.S. logistics business process outsourcing (BPO) services totaled $58 billion in 1998 and is expected to grow to $113 billion by 2003."

"As the mailing and shipping worlds begin to merge, we are positioning E-Stamp to be ahead of the curve," says Ewald. "We`re also embracing the tremendous growth of the logistics space and we see a unique opportunity to make an impact by leveraging our suite of products."

"Automating SanDisk`s shipping process using E-Stamp`s DigitalShipper will help SanDisk scale our business without having to increase the number of personnel in the shipping department" says SanDisk`s Traffic and Logistics Manager, Bret Kleinman.

      @pitu

M`shita <6752.T>, Toppan tie up on SD memory cards

TOKYO, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd <6752.T>, the world`s largest consumer electronics maker, said on Thursday it will provide Toppan Printing Co Ltd <7911.T> with information needed to adapt SD (secure digital) memory cards.

The move is aimed at expanding usage of the new postage stamp-sized memory devices, and ultimately making them the standard device used for storing audio, video and computer files for easy transfer from one electronic device to another.

The postage stamp-sized SD Memory Card was jointly developed by Matsushita, Toshiba Corp <6502.T> and SanDisk Corp <SNDK.O>. That consortium of companies is competing with Sony Corp <6758.T>, the world`s second-largest consumer electronics manufacturer, which wants to make its chewing gum-size Memory Stick the new industry standard.

The competition is similar to the titanic battle waged three decades ago between Sony and a Matsushita-led consortium over which audio-video tape storage medium would become the global standard -- Sony`s Betamax or the Matsushita-developed VHS.

In sharing the technology behind the new SD memory card with companies like Toppan, Japan`s second-largest printing company which in recent years has diversified into making electronic precision components such as photomasks and printed circuit boards, Matsushita is employing the same strategy that helped it win the Betamax/VHS battle.

Matsushita will provide Toppan with design information for chips used in equipment compatible with the SD cards, a Matsushita spokesman said.

Toppan will offer services on designing and making LSI (large-scale integrated) circuits from October to electronic appliance makers. The information will help shorten the chip development process from six months to 2-3 months, reducing costs.

Toppan aims at sales of about 200 million yen ($1.86 million) in the first year to September 2001, a Toppan spokesman said.

By 0418 GMT, Matsushita`s shares were up 0.34 percent at 2,910 yen. Toppan`s shares were up 0.98 percent at 1,033 yen.

SanDisk Announces Record Revenue and Operating Income for Third Quarter 2000

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK), the world`s largest supplier of flash memory data storage products, today announced record revenue for its quarter ended September 30, 2000. Total third quarter revenues were $170.8 million, an increase of 153% from $67.5 million in the third quarter of 1999 due primarily to increased revenues from CompactFlash and MultiMediaCard products and higher license and royalty revenues. Product revenues were $151.8 million, an increase of 163% from $57.6 million for the same period last year. Revenues from licenses and royalties were $19.0 million, up 92% from $9.9 million in the third quarter of 1999. Net income for the quarter was $25.6 million, up 294% compared to $6.5 million in the same period last year. In the third quarter, diluted earnings per share were $0.35, compared to $0.11 per share in the third quarter of 1999.

Total revenues for the third quarter increased sequentially by 19%. Product revenues increased 24% from $122.6 million for the second quarter of 2000. Revenues from licenses and royalties were 11% lower than the previous quarter due to the timing of recognizing revenues from our various license agreements. Third quarter diluted earnings per share increased to $0.35 per share, compared to $0.33 per share for the second quarter of 2000.

"The third quarter was another excellent quarter for SanDisk with total revenues and operating income again reaching record highs," said Dr. Eli Harari, President and CEO of SanDisk. "New records were achieved in product revenues and number of units and megabytes sold. Total unit sales reached a record 4.7 million, up 57% from 3 million units in the prior quarter and total Flash memory megabytes sold increased sequentially by 41%. We experienced strong sequential growth in unit and megabyte sales for both our CompactFlash and MultiMediaCard product lines. Product gross margins improved to 33%, up from 31% in the previous quarter primarily due to lower manufacturing costs which were partially offset by moderate price declines. Availability of Flash memory from the three fabs at UMC and from our partnership with Toshiba improved significantly in the second half of the quarter.

"Sales growth improved sequentially in North America, Europe and the Far East. OEM sales were robust and we are particularly encouraged by the growing strength in sales through our retail channel.

"In the fourth quarter, we expect favorable market conditions for digital cameras, digital camcorders, smart phones and industrial applications, as well as strong holiday sales of Flash cards to consumers through retail stores. Usage of our products is increasing in a number of rapidly growing consumer and industrial applications, and we are therefore optimistic about continuing growth in our business in Q4 and in 2001."

This news release contains certain forward looking statements including our expectations for future product revenues and bookings, average selling prices, gross margin and profits that are based on current expectations and involve risks and uncertainties that may affect our business, financial condition and results of operations. In addition to the factors discussed above, other risks include: the availability of adequate supply of flash memory wafers from UMC in Taiwan and from other sources; the availability of other critical materials and components; the timely and successful manufacturing ramp up of new product generations and new foundries with acceptable yields and manufacturing costs; increased expenses and fluctuations in operating results related to the startup of wafer production at our FlashVision foundry joint venture; the timely introduction and acceptance of new consumer products that incorporate our flash storage devices; slow growth in the emerging markets for our products including the portable digital music player market; future average selling price erosion due to excess capacity and price competition; the continued successful ramp up of assembly operations in China, Taiwan and the Philippines; seasonality of product sales; success in developing brand name preference and an efficient distribution system for SanDisk`s products in the retail channel; economic conditions and exchange rates in Japan, the Pacific Rim and other geographic regions as they affect SanDisk`s customers; the successful development and launch of our Secure Digital card products; and the other risks detailed from time to time in our Securities and Exchange Commission filings and reports, including, but not limited to, the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 and the Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 1999. Future results may differ materially from those previously reported. We assume no obligation to update the information in this release.

      SirEMIL,

      SANDISK ISSUES STATEMENT ON LEXAR`S
      OCTOBER 24 PRESS RELEASE

SUNNYVALE, CA, Oct. 24, 2000—SanDisk Corporation
(NASDAQ:SNDK) today issued the following statement in response
Lexar Media’s Oct. 23 press release.

SanDisk believes Lexar is engaging in misrepresentation of the
rulings made by Judge Breyer of the U.S. District Court of Northern
California on several motions in the patent infringement lawsuit filed by
SanDisk against Lexar. For example in the order, the judge made the
      following findings:

“The CFA (CompactFlash Association) did not have any written
regulations that could be interpreted as requiring SanDisk to disclose its
pending patent application. Accordingly, to the extent Lexar’s claim is
based on the CFA’s written regulations, its claim fails as a matter of
      law.”

“No reasonable trier of fact could find that SanDisk violated the
written regulations of the PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card
      International Association).”

To properly set the record straight, SanDisk is hereby
reproducing in its entirety the Memorandum and Order issued Oct. 17,
      2000 by Judge Breyer.

SANDISK: PLAYING A PART IN THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION
      by Keets Mehta

Here`s a quick question for you: Have you started thinking about what
items you`re going to be buying this Christmas ? How about a Palm Pilot, a digital camera or an MP3 player? How about all three? The likelihood is that all three of these products will be hot sellers this Christmas.

Here`s another question. Can you name a company that will make money on the sales of all three of these digital devices ? SanDisk (SNDK, $55, up 5) is just such a company. They are the leader in producing compact flash memory cards which are memory chips that store the songs, pictures and data that MP3 players, cameras and Palms use and produce.

Currently they are locked in heated battle with Sony Corp. (SNE, $91, down 4) for this lucrative market. Sony has introduced its own data storage device called a `memory stick`. Much like the battle between VHS and Betamax many years ago, there is a lot at stake in this conflict to emerge as the standard for memory storage in digital devices. SanDisk has the first-mover advantage as many of the early products came with SanDisk compact flash cards. They have also recently formed partnerships with Matsushita and Hitachi (HIT, $113, up 3) to counter the advantage that Sony maintains (as it is one of the world`s largest electronic products manufacturers). SanDisk has also recently announced that they will supply Ericsson (ERICY, $13, up 1) with flashcards, which will allow their cell phones to work as MP3 players.

The compact flashcard has the early lead in becoming the standard by which digital media is stored. We`ve also seen a recent movement toward consolidation of these differing electronic products into a three-in-one device. Palm and Visor users can buy modules that allow their PDA(Personal Data Assistant) to become a digital camera or an MP3 player.
Sony`s memory stick does not currently work with Palms or Visors.

Finally, SanDisk reported 3Q00 earnings last week of $26 million, or $0.35 a share, versus year-ago earnings of $6 million, or $0.11 per share. The results were an astounding $0.07 better than consensus. Total third quarter revenues were $170 million, an increase of 150% from $68 million in 3Q99 due primarily to increased revenues from CompactFlash and MultiMediaCard products and higher license and royalty revenues. Revenues from licenses and royalties were $19 million, up over 90% from $10 million in the comparable period last year.

However, don`t let this company`s low PE of 13 fool you. SanDisk sold
some (but not all) of its holdings in United Microelectronics (UMC, $12) earlier this year, and took a very substantial one-time profit from the sale during the first quarter. The relevant PE to look at for SanDisk is the forward PE, which is calculated using projected earnings for the upcoming twelve-month period. Based on consensus estimates for a $1.46 profit next year, the company is trading at a forward PE of 38. SanDisk is expected to grow its earnings at a 37% clip over the next five years, so their PEG (PE divided by growth rate) multiple is about 1, which looks to be a good value to us.

SanDisk is not without risk, but we feel that the stock could deliver
significant returns in the coming year, so we wanted to make you aware of it. You should be prepared for significant volatility as the YTD high is $170 and the YTD low is just under $19. 68% in held by institutions and they have no long term debt.

SanDisk Wins Popular Science Magazine`s Annual Award for Its Personal Tag -- the World`s First Wearable Solid-State Data Storage Card

      SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 2000--

SanDisk P-Tag Card Is Targeted To The Military and General Health Care Markets For The Capture And Storage Of Medical Records

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK), today announced it has received the annual "Best of What`s New" award from Popular Science Magazine for the Personal Tag (P-Tag), the world`s first wearable memory card that can be used to store critical data such as medical records and other personal information. Announcement of the award will be made in the December 2000 issue of Popular Science, a leading science and technology magazine.

The P-Tag is a matchbook size, solid-state (no moving parts) flash memory card that can electronically store vast amounts of medical records and identification information. Weighing only two grams, the rugged cards represent an exciting new market for SanDisk with immense potential in the storage of personal information. This broad market includes military agencies, government departments, insurance and health care companies worldwide. SanDisk is also targeting the future use of the card in hospitals, HMOs, university medical centers, clinics, nursing homes, insurance companies and numerous other entities involved in the health care field.

"We are honored to be the recipient of such a prestigious award and are proud to be recognized for our pioneering work in the solid-state storage industry," said Eli Harari, SanDisk president and CEO. "Our flash memory technology has enabled a new generation of innovative products such as the P-Tag that has the potential to greatly improve and even save people`s lives."

Throughout the year, Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations and features a select few in its monthly "What`s New" department. A total of 100 winners in ten categories, make it into the coveted Best of What`s New issue. Popular Science found the SanDisk Personal Tag to represent a significant step forward in its category this year and more importantly, to potentially save the life of its wearer.

The P-Tag stores pertinent electronic medical data about the person who carries it. It, in effect, stores an abridged, updateable, secure database of the individual`s electronic medical record. The card can serve as the primary medical data source about the individual in settings where computer network connectivity to larger databases is not available or convenient to access, offering health care providers with immediate access to the patient`s most important clinical data whether they are in the field or in a hospital.

As a person gets transferred to another state, country or is simply referred to another physician (in or out of network) the new physician can quickly view the patient`s complete medical record at a glance by inserting the P-Tag into a low-cost reader for the notebook or desktop computer. The patient`s medical and identification data, such as allergies, blood type and medication history, can be quickly obtained. New information about treatments or vaccinations given can be easily added electronically to the personal database stored on the card.

Sandisk Introduces TriFlash, a High Capacity Small-Size Embedded Flash Memory Device; Initial ``Megamarkets`` For TriFlash Internet Music Players And Cell Phones

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2000--SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today introduced TriFlash, a high capacity, small-size embedded flash memory device. TriFlash initially will be targeted at two rapidly growing "killer applications" - Internet music players and cell phones. It will also be marketed to manufacturers of handheld computers, pagers, handheld GPS devices, digital cameras, digital set-top boxes and other consumer products. The announcement was made at the COMDEX trade show where SanDisk is conducting meetings with product manufacturers and retailers.

Nelson Chan, SanDisk`s senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, said, "TriFlash is a breakthrough product that will allow SanDisk to get into new, fast-growing, high-profile markets that require embedded flash storage. SanDisk has long been recognized as the market leader in removable flash memory cards, such as our popular MultiMediaCard and CompactFlash(TM) (CF(TM)), but has not participated in the much larger market for embedded flash memory chips. We expect to change that with TriFlash."

Chan explained that "SanDisk has carefully studied the future market opportunities for flash storage and is leveraging its strength and expertise in the removable flash card market with this new TriFlash product. TriFlash will allow consumer electronics` manufacturers to get their products to market faster and at lower cost. Our new embedded flash has a simple three-pin serial interface and can accommodate - in the same footprint -- all existing and future generations of flash memory."

The "Tri" represents the three unique innovations incorporated into TriFlash; Simple, Seamless and Scalable. The simple, high performance serial interface follows the three input/output (I/O) pins of the SPI or MMC industry standards. Coupled with the built-in controller for performing transparently all flash memory management operations, TriFlash is easy and simple to design into virtually any microprocessor/microcontroller platform. The architecture of TriFlash allows the seamless integration of embedded flash with removable MultiMediaCards or Secure Digital Cards for incremental storage. The scalability of TriFlash allows all storage capacities from the lowest to the highest to fit into the same, small footprint plastic package. This feature is extendable to future, higher density generations of flash memory.

TriFlash will be initially available in 128, 256 and 512 Megabit (Mbit) capacities, which translates into 16, 32 and 64 Megabytes (MB) of storage. TriFlash, which will be sold in a TFBGA (thin, fine-pitch ball grid array) package, is 17 by 12 millimeters (mm) in size and 1.2mm thick. Product sampling will start in December and January with production scheduled for the first half of 2001. Pricing, in 1000 unit quantities, is expected to be: 16MB, $35; 32MB, $60; 64MB, $110.

Chan added that "we expect most MP3 players, cell phones, handheld computers and other popular mobile systems will have a slot for either a MultiMediaCard or a Secure Digital card. The least expensive and quickest way to add, for example, the MP3 feature to these products will be to include a TriFlash chip on the same bus used for the removable cards."

Other firms competing in the small-size embedded flash market sell raw flash chips that require external management because they do not include an on-board controller. Most of those products are architecturally different from TriFlash, are based on linear flash and are designed for "read often, write seldom" usage. TriFlash is optimized for high performance of both reads and writes, combined with low power consumption across all operations. The TriFlash controller saves on host system CPU and RAM buffering, ensures high reliability and provides a complete disk-like file management structure.

TriFlash is ideal for storing audio, video, data and images on small portable systems such as cell phones and MP3 players. Already manufacturers of cell phones, handheld computers and Internet music players are adding new features to these products which will require high capacity storage. Cell phones, for example, have started to offer MP3 capability and handheld computers are offering music player features.

TriFlash could be used in mobile phones in various ways. If a music playback feature was added to a cell phone, about 30 to 60 minutes of music could be stored on a 32MB TriFlash device using compression technology. An entire company directory, the phone book of a major city or personal E-mail could be loaded on to a TriFlash device.

The growing market for Internet appliances will provide another market for TriFlash. Storage requirements for such home appliances are growing as consumers start collecting family recipes, maps, financial data, vehicle history and other information on the devices.

TriFlash will give product manufacturers the option of either using TriFlash and/or removable flash memory cards in their consumer electronics products. The cost of having embedded memory in a product, rather than bundling it with removable memory cards, will be lower as there are costs in building a card. It is expected that some manufacturers will include both TriFlash and slots for flash memory cards in their consumer electronics products to increase storage capacity.

SanDisk Corporation, the world`s largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.

      Wechselmedium abzuspeichern", konstatiert Ellis.
      GByte/Seite", unterstreicht Ellis.

IDC sieht in diesem Bereich jedenfalls akuten Handlungsbedarf.

      Speichertechnologie

      FMD: Fluorescent Multilayer Disk

SanDisk Significantly Broadens Product Line; Introduces High-Capacity, NAND Flash Memory Chips

      SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2000--

Chips Are Designed for Several Fast Growing Consumer Electronics Markets Including Cell Phones, MP3 Players and Handheld Computers

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) will significantly broaden its product line today by introducing high capacity flash memory chips targeted at cell phones, Internet music players, handheld computers and other fast-growing consumer electronics products. The 256 megabit (Mbit) and 512Mbit NAND devices are the first NAND flash memory products introduced by SanDisk. They will be manufactured for SanDisk through its FlashVision Joint Venture with Toshiba Corp.

NAND is a widely-used type of flash memory for high capacity data storage applications. NAND flash was invented by Toshiba Corp. and became available to SanDisk through a strategic corporate agreement signed this year between SanDisk and Toshiba. NAND flash memory has much lower power dissipation, lower cost per bit and higher capacity than the standard NOR flash commonly used for code store application. NAND flash has gained wide acceptance in embedded storage consumer electronics applications. For example, numerous MP3 music players come with a 256 or 512Mbit NAND chip embedded on the motherboard. In the future this type of flash storage is expected to penetrate major new applications for embedded storage, such as future generation cell phones, Internet appliances and set-top boxes. It is expected that all of these represent major new market opportunities for SanDisk in the coming years.

The chips will be sold as TSOP (thin small outline package) devices. TSOPs are widely used for packaging embedded flash memory in popular consumer electronics products.

Ed Cuellar, SanDisk marketing director, said, "These NAND flash chips represent the most advanced and cost-effective flash component on the market today. The NAND devices have been widely adopted by systems designers. The combination of SanDisk`s flash cards and these new embedded flash components gives our customers a strong competitive advantage. We are very excited about the new market opportunities that these products are expected to open for SanDisk."

Alan Niebel, managing director of Web-Feet Research, Monterey, CA, said that "SanDisk is entering the market for discrete flash components at a time when that market is showing enormous growth." Web-Feet concluded that the worldwide market for flash components in 1999 (excluding revenue from flash card sales) was $4.56 billion.

SanDisk will start sampling its new TSOP chips this month with production scheduled for January, 2001. Pricing, in 1000 unit quantities, is expected to be: 256Mbit, $58, and 512Mbit, $108. The 256Mbit chip translates into 32 megabytes (MB) while the 512Mbit chip is equal to 64MB.

SanDisk also extended its penetration into the embedded flash market last month when it introduced TriFlash, a small-size embedded flash memory device with a built-in controller. TriFlash is easy and simple to design into virtually any microprocessor/microcontroller platform. The architecture of TriFlash allows for the seamless integration of embedded flash with removable MultiMediaCards or Secure Digital Cards for incremental storage.

SanDisk Corporation manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.

Microsoft sees future with flash memory
      By Michael D. Cohen
      Redherring.com, December 15, 2000

A road map to the Internet of the future was unveiled earlier this
year -- a map that will have a broad impact on the entire IT
industry and points to the ultimate success or decline of numerous
technology companies. But it is one that the market barely
      noticed.

On June 22, during Bill Gates`s new-strategy announcement for
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), the chairman unveiled Microsoft
      .Net, a far-reaching, paradigm-shifting platform for Internet
services. Despite Microsoft`s well-documented legal tussles and
lagging stock price, its strategic maneuvers still have huge ripple effects and create excellent opportunities for
      investors.

The goal for Microsoft .Net is to enable all users to synchronize applications and data with Internet
appliances, most of which use flash memory.

      STOCKS LOOK ATTRACTIVE
Given Microsoft`s intent and the battering some flash-memory players` stocks have endured of late, one of the
best buys right now is SanDisk (Nasdaq: SNDK), with 40 percent of the flash-memory market. This company
manufactures removable flash cards for digital cameras, audio devices like MP3 players, and digital
camcorders. Growth in these markets has already been strong: SanDisk`s third-quarter revenue was up 153
percent year-over-year, and it owns more than 100 patents, which it licenses to competitors. The company is
also an equal partner with Toshiba in a venture called Flashvision, which, to meet growing demand, plans to
transform a Virginia foundry into one capable of generating $1 billion in annual sales by 2002, when it`s
expected to reach full production. It`s slated to begin operation in the second half of 2001. This ramp-up on
the supply side, coupled with .Net on the demand side, makes SanDisk a timely value, especially considering
that on December 14 its stock was trading at $54.06, 68 percent off its March high of $169.63. At that price,
SanDisk is valued at 35 times 2001 earnings estimates, a reasonable multiple for a company expected to
show 21 percent earnings growth in 2001.

Another good flash-memory play is Silicon Storage Technology (Nasdaq: SSTI). Its chips are incorporated
into set-top boxes, pagers, personal computers, routers, and a wide range of Internet appliances. According
to company forecasts, its capacity will not meet demand until the end of 2001. Backlogs have been steadily
increasing, and because its products are used in Internet appliances, the .Net effect will hit Silicon Storage
strongly in 2002, likely causing the dislocation between demand and supply to continue. Despite this
promising growth, Silicon Storage`s recent stock price of $13.75 is 65 percent below its June high. The
company also is trading at a downright cheap forward price/earnings ratio of 5.5.

One flash-memory company outside the United States is Israel-based M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers
(Nasdaq: FLSH), notable for its DiskOnChip technology, a single-chip replacement for hard disks in Internet
appliances. M-Systems uses off-the-shelf flash-memory chips along with its proprietary software to provide
full hard-disk emulation. While an early-stage company compared to the other two, this technology still helped
M-Systems generate growth of 246 percent year-over-year and 43 percent in sequential revenue in the
      second quarter.

The company has had a strategic development relationship with Microsoft since 1996, and its DiskOnChip
Millennium is used as the data storage device in Microsoft TV`s set-top boxes. M-Systems`s recent stock
price of $20.19 is 57 percent off its June high, and while it is the most expensive of the three stocks we
discussed, with a P/E ratio of 36, it only has a total market capitalization of just $585 million. The company
could well be undervalued given the opportunities in front of it.

RESEARCH ALERT-Merrill cuts SanDisk, lowers estimates

NEW YORK, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch on Thursday said it had cut it rating and earnings estimate on semiconductor maker SanDisk Corp. <SNDK.O>, saying the company could fact pricing and margin pressures.

In a research note, analyst Chris Danely said he believes "the tight supply environment in CompactFlash may be unraveling faster than we previously anticipated, which does not bode well for pricing and margins relative to our previous expectations."

Danely cut his intermediate-term rating on SanDisk shares to accumulate from buy, although the long-term rating was maintained as a buy.

Danely also lowered his 2001 earnings per share estimate to $1.55 from $1.60 due to future margin pressures as a result of lowered pricing."

"While our checks indicate digital camera sales (46 percent of SNDK revenues) have been strong relative to other products during the holiday season, we believe CompactFlash supply has improved to the point where the 1Q `01 seasonal downturn in digital camera demand could cause CompactFlash pricing pressures," Danely said.

SanDisk shares fell $13-7/16, or more than 30 percent, to $31-1/8 on Nasdaq, where the stock was the No. 2 net loser in heavy early-afternoon trading.

SanDisk CEO Eli Harari Interviewed by ON24 Financial Internet News Channel

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2001--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today that Eli Harari, president and CEO at SanDisk, was interviewed by ON24.com at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, released yesterday over the Internet at approximately 4:40PM EST.

SanDisk is a leading provider of removable flash storage cards used in consumer electronics products such as digital cameras, Internet music players, hand held organizers, PocketPCs and cell phones.

SanDisk is reproducing the entire transcript of the interview between ON24 host, Anthony Moor, and SanDisk`s CEO, Dr. Eli Harari. The transcript also includes supplemental information provided by SanDisk.

      (Beginning of transcript)

      Anthony Moor:

Anthony Moor with ON24 news. I`m in Las Vegas, NV at the Consumer Electronics Show. Now anybody who has gotten into these new digital media has recognized immediately the need for more memory. Particularly when you`re coming to things like digital cameras. Well, SanDisk is the company that makes a lot of those small little cards that stick into those digital cameras, PDAs, etc., and Eli Harari is the president & CEO of SanDisk. You have a number of these little cards, which I see in front of you here... what is the sort of new buzz that you`re trying to bring to the CES this year, and what does that say for what your company`s trying to do the in the next 12 months?

      Eli Harari:

Take a look around the CES show -- there are literally hundreds of new applications... new platforms that use our new card -- the SD Card, SecureDigital Card. In fact, we have an entire pavilion. And we have very interesting new applications that have been in development over the last 18 months. For example, Nintendo is showing their new game machine that will use SD card to import new games. Palm is showing in their part of the pavilion major new applications for their SD card. In fact, Palm has announced publicly working together with the Secure Digital Association and with SanDisk that they will announce major new products in the first half of this year. And we think that this, together with a whole slew of new applications in cell phones and music players, in-digital cameras, and digital camcorders, for the SecureDigital card, is going to drive tremendously the growth of this new format -- form factor this year.

SanDisk supplemental information; A number of the new applications for SD cards demonstrated at the SD Pavilion at the CES show, including the Nintendo game console using the SD card are in the concept stage.

      Anthony Moor:

Now you folks are among the first to actually get this form factor out... others are coming on line. And over the course of the last 3-6 months or so some analysts are suggesting that because new capacity is coming on line from some of your competitors that there`s going to be a glut of these flash cards. Also they`re saying, you know, there weren`t quite as many digital cameras sold the last holiday season as one would like. What do you see in terms of the demand versus supply in the next 12 months?

      Eli Harari:

Every one of these new applications that we`re talking about, once it takes off and catches on, drives tremendous new demand that did not exist in the past. The technology used is becoming very, very pervasive. This is not a PC play or desktop play. It`s consumer electronics, it`s wireless, it`s Internet. We`re talking about literally tens of new major markets that are only just beginning now. The SD card was introduced 18 months ago, but realistically it`s only the first half of this year that we`re starting to see the roll out of some really exciting products. We think that by the second half of this year many of these applications will drive very significant new demand and we think, in fact, that there is going to be a shortage of flash memory, particularly for storage of content at the high capacity... we`re talking about 256 megabit (mb) and 512mb plus chips that are driving these applications, and in that regime there are very few suppliers. In fact, we think that together with our partner, Toshiba, SanDisk and Toshiba will have the ability to have a very strong market presence... market leadership.

SanDisk supplemental information: Dr. Harari`s comments with regards to shortage of flash memory was made specifically with regard to high density (256mb, 512mb) Flash memory in the second half of this year (2001).

      Anthony Moor:

This is because you have a joint venture with them building on a new factory. Talk to me a little how that`s going. This is the FlashVision Company?

      Eli Harari:

The FlashVision Company is proceeding very beautifully, it`s a little bit ahead of schedule. We expect to start full production as scheduled by the middle of this year. The first product is one that we already announced. It`s a 512mb Nand-flash chip; it`s the most cost effective flash memory I believe for the next 12-18 months. I don`t think that there`s anything out there in this time frame that can even touch it and we think that as quickly as we can ramp it up and start production we`re going to be able to meet those requirements for new capacity.

SanDisk supplemental information: SanDisk believes that the 512mb NAND Flash chip will be the first flash memory chip of such density to reach the market in high volumes, and will provide the lowest cost per megabyte (MB) at the time of its introduction.

      Eli Harari:

I just came back from Japan. This is a very good example of the D30, it`s the new class of digital cameras made by Canon. There`s going to be a whole bunch of these other digital cameras in the range of $2,000 to $3,000. And the nice thing about these cameras is that although they`re digital, they`re completely interchangeable with existing lenses. These really really drive up memory capacity. You cannot really use a 16MB or even a 32MB card in these applications. So we think that this is just an example of a niche application but actually quite a large installed base that we think can drive very significant volume of compact flash cards at 64MB and higher.

SanDisk supplemental information: The Canon D30 can also operate with CompactFlash cards of capacities below 64MB.

      Anthony Moor:

Just because we`re at a consumer show, why don`t you lift up one of these cards to show me what they look like? I think people should see this.

      Eli Harari:

This is the SD card -- truly the size of a stamp. This has been designed by Palm into their future products. So this will take a regular Palm device. When you plug it in, it becomes a one hour or two hour music player. This is designed now into the majority of digital camcorders that act also as digital cameras and being designed now into a very large number of cell phones that will become Internet connected, as well as music players.

      Anthony Moor:

I have to say, you know, it`s amazingly small. One of the concerns that some people have is that you`re going to see price pressure on a lot of this stuff. What do you have to say about that?

      Eli Harari:

I think people really have the price pressure all wrong, in my opinion. Flash memory today is still too expensive. Flash memory price and cost has got to come down. Our strategy from day one has been to drive the technology... to drive the technology passionately. We`re really passionate about driving the cost down. The cost has got to come down over the next 5 years by a factor of between 5 and a factor of 10.

      Anthony Moor:

So you`ve built this into the business model.

      Eli Harari:

Yes, that`s the whole game. Consumer Electronics is price elastic. You need to meet price points. The only way you can do so is drive the technology, drive the manufacturing, drive the volume. Maintain very high quality. If we could achieve that and do it faster than any competitor, we`re going to be able to expand our market. We`ll actually benefit from the reduced cost and reduced prices. The key is to reduce your cost faster than the declining prices and faster than any competitor.

      Anthony Moor:

Do you feel your benchmarks so far have been met then? I`m not familiar with your gross margins, but wondering if your gross margins are suggesting this is happening?

      Eli Harari:

I`m very very pleased with where we are today. And with what we have planned in the next 12-24 months.

      Anthony Moor:

You do have long-term positive outlooks from most of the analysts. I wanted to read you just one quote from Merrill Lynch. Again this is about the short term, and you`ve answered this to some degree. But I want to throw it out there so you can hear it. They said that the retail and OEM channel is filling up with Compact Flash which would cause pricing to come down as capacity ramps at some of your competitors. Is this what you`re talking about when you say the price is going down?

      Eli Harari:

We agree that the price is coming down. We think that`s very positive. That`s not a negative. In Consumer Electronics price coming down means more people are going to be able to afford it, more people are going to use it, and more applications are going to be enabled by it. The key is you have to have control of your media... your flash memory. And we have that. We both develop it and we manufacture it. We assemble it and we test it. We are vertically integrated in all aspects. We have the lowest cost in the industry.

SanDisk supplemental information: Dr. Harari`s statement refers specifically to the manufacturing cost of flash cards of capacities 8MB or higher (SanDisk does not supply cards of lower capacity), compared to SanDisk`s estimation of the manufacturing costs of other flash card competitors. SanDisk believes this cost advantage is due primarily to the Double Density technology employed by SanDisk in its current products, as well as SanDisk`s economies of scale, including high volume subcontractor card assembly and test in China, Taiwan and the Philippines.

      Eli Harari:

Now the question is what are our competitors going to do? Some desperate competitors can do crazy things. We`ve seen that in other industries. I think that for the next 5-10 years the markets are going to grow faster that any one of us combined can bring to bear new capacity. And I think it`s going to be a very exciting ride for the next 5-10 years. Very much like Intel`s early years when they finally got the microprocessor design wins rolling out there. Just on an incredible expansion.

SanDisk supplemental information: This is a forward-looking projection based on one or more market forecasts for the flash memory markets addressed by SanDisk.

      Anthony Moor:

I know you`re in a quiet period, so answer to the degree that you can. Are you comfortable with the kinds of assessments that are out there on Wall Street for the coming quarters?

      Eli Harari:

I can`t comment on that. We really are in our quiet period.

I really want your listeners to understand that this capacity issue... it`s a demand supply equation. Once Matsushita (Panasonic) and Sony roll out their... basically every appliance that they have will use either a Sony memory stick that uses flash memory or the SD card which uses flash memory. These two giants themselves can consume, I believe, the entire existing flash capacity today. Then of course there`s the rest of the world... the Kodaks, the Canons, the HPs. I think the challenge will be for us to be able to meet the demand rather than the other way around.

SanDisk supplemental information: Dr. Harari`s statement on the flash capacity demand-supply equation is a forward-looking projection on the future flash memory requirements forecasted for these and other major companies in the next 5-10 years.

      Anthony Moor:

We`ll be looking forward to your progress. Hope you will be joining us in the coming months....

      Fotografieren ohne Film

Product revenues increased 156% due primarily to increased sales of CompactFlash and MultiMediaCard products. Net income in 2000 was $298.7 million, or $4.11 per share, and included a one-time after tax gain of $204 million, or $2.81 per share, in the first quarter of 2000 from the conversion of SanDisk`s foundry investment in United Silicon Inc. into shares of United Microelectronics Corp. Excluding this one-time gain, net income for fiscal year 2000 was $94.7 million, or $1.30 per share, an increase of 202% compared to $0.43 per share for 1999 on a diluted basis.

"FY 2000 was the best year in SanDisk`s history," said Dr. Eli Harari, President and CEO of SanDisk. "We more than doubled sales and more than tripled earnings per share compared to 1999. Sales to Japan and Europe each exceeded the $100 million mark for the first time. Retail sales more than tripled compared to 1999. Despite supply constraints throughout most of the year, we shipped over 13 million units, up from 5 million in 1999. We believe we strengthened the fundamentals of our future business through our strategic partnership with Toshiba and our investments in a strong subcontractor supplier base in Taiwan, China, the Philippines and Japan, which gives us the flexibility to respond to global demand at competitive costs. Royalty income from our intellectual property and patents increased significantly and we ended the year with a strong balance sheet.

"Market conditions softened significantly in the fourth quarter due to slowing economic conditions. Product demand slowed, resulting in reduced backlog and low near-term order visibility. Our sales through the retail channel increased substantially in the fourth quarter, spurred by successful holiday sales of digital cameras. However, this was not sufficient to compensate for reduced orders from OEMs, who appear to be working down their existing inventories in a slowing economy. Consequently, our sales in the quarter, although a record, were below our internal expectations.

"We believe the current situation is likely to adversely impact the first one or two quarters of 2001 and are taking aggressive steps to manage our flash production output. We are actively managing our inventory and we expect it to return to historical levels by the second half of the year. We are also taking steps to manage expenses until we see a pickup in demand for our products. At the same time, we believe that we will need substantially more capacity of advanced flash wafers once the current market situation reverses, and are therefore continuing our investments in advanced flash technology and in the FlashVision manufacturing joint venture with Toshiba. We believe that the 512Mbit Nand flash technology resulting from this joint venture will contribute favorably to our competitiveness in the second half of the year, when we plan to have production output from FlashVision in Virginia.

"Despite the near term market lull, we are optimistic that SanDisk has the opportunity to leverage our leading-edge technology and products to further improve our competitive position in 2001. We are encouraged by the large number of new design wins for our products which we believe should result in renewed growth when these products are introduced to the market later this year. Every one of the markets addressed by SanDisk, digital consumer electronics, digital wireless, internet appliances and telecommunications infrastructure, is in its relatively early formative stages, with accelerating growth predicted by industry analysts over the next few years."

SanDisk completed the lease financing for its FlashVision foundry joint venture with Toshiba on December 27, 2000. The amount of the lease facility from a bank syndication was $215 million, which is guaranteed by SanDisk on behalf of FlashVision.

      Business Outlook:

The financial projections contained herein are based on limited information available to us now, which is highly likely to change over time. Although our projections and the factors influencing them will likely change, we do not plan to update them.

Presently, weak worldwide economic conditions and uncertainty make it difficult to predict future market demand. We currently believe that our first quarter sales will be adversely impacted by seasonality, increased pricing pressures and slowing demand from OEMs as they continue their inventory corrections, resulting in product revenues 15% - 20% below the just completed quarter, and earnings per share approximately in line with first quarter results of a year ago, excluding the one-time gain on foundry investment. Although the recent economic uncertainty makes it difficult to predict results for fiscal 2001, we are currently projecting annual revenues approximately 30% higher than in 2000, with most of the product sales growth occurring in the second half of the year based on market acceptance of new design wins for our products. Fiscal year 2001 earnings per share are currently projected to grow slightly from 2000, excluding the one-time gain on foundry investment. Product gross margins for 2001 are expected to be 30%, plus or minus a couple of points, due in part to pricing pressures and significant expenses associated with the FlashVision fab production start up. These results could differ materially if the slowdown continues into the second half of the year or the global economy goes into a recession.

This news release contains certain forward looking statements including our expectations for future product revenues and bookings, average selling prices, gross margin and profits that are based on current expectations and involve risks and uncertainties that may significantly and adversely affect our business, financial condition and results of operations. In addition to the factors discussed above, other risks include: the timely introduction and acceptance of new consumer products that incorporate our flash storage devices; slower than expected growth in the emerging markets for our products which may result in reduced sales and increased inventory; the availability of adequate supply of flash memory wafers from UMC in Taiwan and from other sources; the availability of other critical materials and components; the timely and successful manufacturing ramp up of new product generations; increased expenses and fluctuations in operating results and yields related to the startup of wafer production at our FlashVision foundry joint venture; future average selling price erosion due to excess capacity and price competition that is more severe than normal learning curve price reductions; the continued successful management of assembly operations in China, Taiwan and the Philippines; seasonality of product sales; success in developing brand name preference and an efficient distribution system for SanDisk`s products in the retail channel; economic conditions and exchange rates in Japan, the Pacific Rim, Europe and other geographic regions as they affect SanDisk`s customers; the successful development and launch of our Secure Digital card products; and the other risks detailed from time to time in our Securities and Exchange Commission filings and reports, including, but not limited to, the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2000 and the Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 1999. Future results may differ materially from those previously reported. We assume no obligation to update the information in this release.

UPDATE 1-SanDisk reports Q4 slowdown, shares tumble
(Updates share price movement, adds details)

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan 24 (Reuters) - SanDisk Corp. <SNDK.O>, the world`s largest supplier of flash memory chips used in digital cameras and handheld devices, reported a sharp slowdown in fourth quarter sales on Wednesday, a slump it said could continue through the first half of this year.

Shares in SanDisk fell by over 20 percent in after hours trade to $35- on Instinet from a Nasdaq close of $46-3/16.

SanDisk reported revenues in the quarter ending Dec. 31 of $177.7 million, below internal projections and 12 percent below the average Wall Street forecast, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.

"Market conditions softened significantly in the fourth quarter due to slowing economic conditions. Product demand slowed, resulting in reduced backlog and low near-term order visibility," Eli Harari, SanDisk`s president and chief executive, said in a statement.

SanDisk`s flash memory cards are microchips that can capture and erase data quickly and feature in a range of new consumer electronics, including Nintendo Co.<7974.OS> game machines and handheld organizers by Palm Inc <PALM.O>.

The company said manufacturers that market its flash memory cards under their own brands were running down their inventory levels given the slowdown in the economy and said its sales could be hurt for the first two quarters this year.

SanDisk said that it would slow production and run down inventories to historical levels in the first half of 2001, in anticipation of a rebound in demand when new memory-hungry consumer products come to market in the second-half.

Net income for the fourth quarter was $29.5 million, or 41 cents per diluted share. The average forecast had been for operating earnings of 37 cents per share, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.

SanDisk, which has built its strategy on falling prices and surging demand for flash memory applications in coming years, forecast that while revenues for 2001 would grow about 30 percent, earnings per share would be up only slightly.

That forecast could prove overstated if the slowdown continues into the second half of the year or the global economy goes into a recession, the company said.

SanDisk has a joint production venture with Toshiba Corp. <6502.T> for a high-capacity flash memory card to market for cell phones, digital cameras and MP3 digital audio players.

SanDisk completed a $215 million financing agreement for a new foundry to make the new flash memory cards in December and said on Wednesday that it would continue with the project on the view that the new capacity will be needed.

Harari has said he expects the new, postage-sized 512-megabit flash cards to be able to maintain a competitive edge in capacity for the next year to 18 months.

Toshiba shares were down 2.82 percent in Tokyo trade on Thursday to 758 yen.

SSTI abgebe!

      Press Release

SanDisk Revises Q1 Fiscal 2001 Outlook

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2001--SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK - news), announced today that due to continuing weakness
in economic conditions and ongoing customer inventory corrections, it expects revenue and earnings for the first quarter of 2001 to be significantly lower than previously expected.

Overall market conditions have not improved in the quarter; consequently, demand from major OEM customers has been substantially below forecast as these
customers continue to work down their existing inventories. In addition, retail channel orders are running at much lower levels than those of the fourth quarter of fiscal
2000. Product gross margins are being adversely impacted by lower volumes and a marked decline in average selling prices due to competition.

``SanDisk is managing the current difficult market conditions and poor order visibility by sharply focusing on product cost reductions through accelerating our product
development efforts in advanced Flash memory and controller technology to counter the new pricing environment. We are tightly controlling expenses and have
implemented a reduction in our regular and contract employee work force and reduced discretionary spending,`` said Dr. Eli Harari, president and CEO of SanDisk.
``Despite the near term challenges and market uncertainty, we are optimistic about our prospects once the current down-cycle comes to an end. The decline in
product average selling prices, although having a short-term effect, is the most important catalyst for re-igniting demand for our products in the next up cycle. We are
particularly encouraged by the growing momentum for the widespread adoption of the Secure Digital card in digital consumer electronics, which is expected to begin
to contribute to our revenues in the second quarter of this year.``

SanDisk currently expects that first quarter 2001 product revenues will decline approximately 45 percent sequentially from the $155 million reported in the fourth
quarter of 2000. Prior expectations were for a 15% to 20% reduction in product revenues. The Company also anticipates that first quarter earnings will be
      approximately breakeven.

SanDisk will provide its investors and analysts with information and forward-looking guidance in its quarterly financial news releases and conference calls. The
Company will not provide any further guidance or updates on its performance during the quarter unless done through a news release, conference call or SEC filing in
      compliance with Regulation Fair Disclosure.

Sony says Memory Stick shipments to miss target

TOKYO, March 16 (Reuters) - Sony Corp <6758.T> said on Friday its Memory Stick, a tiny data storehouse for portable devices such as digital cameras and the centre of a key product strategy, will miss sales targets for this business year as the economy slows.

The consumer electronics powerhouse said it expects to ship only seven million of the chewing gum-sized devices in the year to March 31, below a target of 10 million announced last October.

"The economy is bad and that`s caused it to fall a bit short, and we`ve introduced a higher-capacity 64 megabyte version so some customers may be buying one of those instead of buying two smaller ones," a spokesman said.

The Memory Stick, brought to market in autumn 1998, allows users to transfer images or sound back and forth between their PCs and portable devices such as digital audio players and video cameras.

The recent economic downturn has forced Japanese electronics manufacturers to trim their sales and shipments forecasts for a wide range of products from cell phones to microchips to personal computers.

This year`s figure is still more than double last year`s three million, however, and Sony remained confident the Memory Stick was poised for rapid growth, predicting a rise to 15 million units in 2001/02 and 60 million two years after that.

The company also said this business year`s shipments would occupy a 23 percent share of the global market for chip-based blank memory media -- a diminutive silicon alternative to magnetic tape, compact discs and other, bulkier recording media.

The leading share is held by Toshiba Corp`s <6502.T> SmartMedia, followed by SanDisk Corp`s <SNDK.O> CompactFlash, both of which are used largely in digital cameras. MUSIC TO THE EARS

One version of the Memory Stick , used in a Walkman personal stereo that can download music from the Internet, features a secure format to ensure copyright protection -- not necessarily popular with users who want music from the Net for free, but a must for content providers fighting in the courts to make sure online exchanges of music respect their copyrights.

A rival technology, the Secure Digital (SD) memory card developed by a consortium including Toshiba, SanDisk and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd <6752.T>, also offers such protection and is set to go head-to-head with the Memory Stick in the memory device market.

A Matsushita spokeswoman said her company is targeting 220 billion yen ($1.80 billion) in sales next year from SD memory cards and compatible devices, including cell phones.

Sony`s shares ended Friday trade up 3.43 percent at 8,440 yen, rising for a third consecutive session as technology stocks managed to steady after a recent slide.

While many Japanese technology shares, especially chipmakers, have fallen in the past few days to their lowest levels in more than a year, Sony has proved relatively buoyant, holding above a closing low of 7,560 yen hit last December.

SANDISK TO SUPPLY SD CARDS FOR PALM`S
      FIRST HANDHELD COMPUTERS USING
      REMOVABLE MEMORY CARDS

SUNNYVALE, CA, Mar. 19, 2001 – SanDisk Corporation
(Nasdaq: SNDK) today announced that it is supplying Palm, Inc. with
Secure Digital (SD) flash memory cards for the two new Palm™
handheld computers, the Palm m500 and m505 handhelds, introduced
      earlier today.

The new Palm m500 series features an expansion slot for
removable SD cards, providing consumers with an expandable storage
option for data, backup files, digital music and other valuable content
such as e-books, e-maps, and video. Because of the broad acceptance
of SD media, the cards can be shared among a variety of SD-enabled
consumer products, such as printers, digital cameras and MP3 players.

Palm’s expansion-card slot technology adds greatly to the
flexibility of the Palm platform by providing the means to add future
expansion modules, such as modems, Bluetooth, GPS, digital cameras,
barcode scanners and MP3 players. As a founding member of the SD
Association, SanDisk has been instrumental in establishing the SD and
SDIO (SD Input/Output) specifications. SanDisk is working closely with
Palm, which co-chairs the SDIO committee, to establish SDIO as a
standard for extending the capabilities of consumer products.

Palm will be exhibiting the Palm m500 series handhelds with
SanDisk-supplied SD cards at the annual CeBIT trade show, where
SanDisk is also demonstrating products at the Hannover Convention
Center in Hall 13, Stand 84.

Byron Connell, vice president, Product Management and
Planning, Palm, Inc., said, “The merits of the SD card—its small size,
broad adoption as a standard, power efficiency, low cost, fast transfer
rates and support for I/O—made it the best choice for our expansion
slot. SanDisk’s expertise helped us optimize our dual expansion
architecture. With continued support from SanDisk and the SD
Association, we intend to strongly promote the SD card standard as the
preferred choice for expandable performance, durability and content
      security.”

Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and
sales at SanDisk, said, “I am proud of the close cooperation we have
established with Palm and excited about their great new products. Palm’s
embracing of the SD platform and SanDisk’s SD cards will, we believe,
be a transforming event for the handheld market and adds greatly to the
rising momentum for the SD card as a universal card standard.”

SanDisk participates in Palm’s PluggedIn Program and has been
qualified to use the Designed for Palm Handhelds logo to let customers
know that SanDisk SD cards will work with Palm m500 series
handhelds. SanDisk also will roll out special marketing activities in select
retail channels worldwide to promote the benefits of selecting SanDisk
SD cards when purchasing a Palm m500 series handheld.

      SD Card Background

The postage stamp-size SD card is available in 8, 16, 32 and
64MB versions, with plans for significantly higher capacities in the future.
Proprietary security functions have also been incorporated into the SD
card that facilitate the secure exchange of content between host devices
and the card. The security technology has been designed to comply with
the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI), making it an ideal solution for
the transfer of digital content such as music and books.

The SD Memory Card was introduced in August, 1999, by
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (NYSE:MC), best known by its
Panasonic brand name, SanDisk and Toshiba Corp. The SD
Association, which already has more than 225 member companies, is an
industry-wide association created to set industry standards for the card
and promote its wide acceptance in digital applications including Internet
music players, Internet appliances, cellular phones, digital still cameras,
digital video cameras, handheld computers, automotive systems, set-top
      boxes and other products.

SanDisk Corporation, the world’s largest supplier of flash data
storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard,
solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its
patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk
      is based in Sunnyvale, CA.

SanDisk Introduces Next Generation ImageMate for Secure Digital Memory Cards and MultiMediaCards; New SecureMate Reader Allows Consumers To Access MP3

      HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2001--

Music Files, Images From Digital Cameras and Data From Personal Digital Assistants And Voice Recorders

SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq:SNDK) announced today the launch of the SanDisk SecureMate(TM) USB card reader. Designed for use with both Secure Digital (SD) cards and MultiMediaCards, the new reader quickly and easily transfers images, audio, video and data between storage cards and computers via the USB port for plug-and-play convenience. The announcement was made at the annual CeBIT Trade Show and Exhibition, where SanDisk is demonstrating products (Hall 13, Stand D-84.)

SanDisk is one of the largest suppliers of SD and MultiMediaCards, which are rapidly becoming the standard removable storage medium for hand held computers, digital video cameras, MP3 players, cell phones and other consumer devices. Many consumers prefer to use a card reader to transfer data directly from their card rather than their camera or music player. The USB port transfers data faster than a serial port connection and offers the plug-and-play capabilities of USB. Additionally, using a card reader does not tie up their device for long periods of time which can drain batteries.

Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and sales at SanDisk, said, "As the demand for SD and MMC cards increases, so does the demand for devices that make them easier to use. Adding the SecureMate reader gives us a complete product line that complements our existing products and accessories for CompactFlash and SmartMedia."

The SanDisk SecureMate reader will be available in July at most of the 20,000 retail outlets in North America, Europe, Canada, South America, Japan and Asia. The suggested retail price is US$29.95. International pricing varies by country.

Minimum system requirements for the SecureMate for Windows computers include a Pentium II - 233MHz compatible or higher processor; or a K6-2 processor with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and Millennium Edition with USB support. Macintosh computers: iMac or Power Mac with G3 processor or higher, with Mac OS 8.6 or 9 with USB support.
