Jul. 21--Closing the book on a financially dismal year, Pervasive Software Inc. said Thursday it lost more
than $23 million, or $1.49 a share, in the final chapter of fiscal 2000.

Pervasive`s announcement comes one week after the software maker fired 100 employees and abruptly
killed its Tango product, the development of which dragged down the company`s performance for nine
straight months.

The fourth-quarter losses include a $17 million charge for restructuring the company. Before taking that
hit, Pervasive lost 41 cents per share for the three months ended June 30.

For the entire fiscal year, Pervasive lost $28.9 million, or $1.64 a share, compared with profits of $3.6
million, or 22 cents a share, in 1999.

"This was a lousy year -- fiscal 2000 is over, and I never want to go through that again," said Ron Harris,
Pervasive`s president and chief executive. "It was the first time we`ve ever had declining profits and
revenue. But we`re a smarter company now."

Sales for the year dropped 10 percent to $52.1 million, compared with more than $58 million in 1999. For
the fourth quarter, Pervasive`s sales fell to $9.9 million, almost half its total from the year-earlier quarter
and 12 percent lower than in the third quarter of 2000.

Last week, Harris recommitted his company to making and selling its database engines -- the part of a
software program that lets it work with data.

But in the fourth quarter, that division of Pervasive lost about $1.6 million. Harris blamed that on his
company`s single-mindedness, saying it focused too much on developing and promoting the Tango
product that lets software writers create Web-based programs.

As Pervasive moves forward, Harris said, it has $26.1 million in the bank.

Shares in Pervasive closed Thursday at $4.03. The stock rose 8 percent to $4.38 in after-hours trading of
5,600 shares.

bei einer firma, die nicht profitabel arbeitet, kann man bei diesem kursstand natürlich nie sicher sein, ob chapter 11 nicht die nächste station ist (operating margin (1 year): - 11,63, profit margin: -9,84). nur eins ist sicher: bei null ist schluss. aber noch sieht es im chart nach bodenbildung aus. optimal wäre es, wenn der jetzige kurs nicht mehr unterschritten würde, dann könnte man schon mal einen seichten anstieg ausmachen. warum hat der wert gestern um 3,5% nachgegeben, bei einem ndx-anstieg von ca. 8% und teilw. zweistelligen gewinnen auch kleinerer tech-werte? vielleicht waren es gewinnmitnahmen nach der meldung von vorgestern:

Short ist eh kaum einer bei PVSW.

bin schon lange drin..seit 2000..habe zum glück bei 2 $
gemischt und habe jetzt einen average von 3,5$.....

bei einem Cash von 2,30$ pro Aktie ergibt sich ein KGV
von unter 10... Ich glaube das sich irgendwann ein großer
(Microsoft,etc) das Ding schnappt für 10-20 USD....
