Madge.web To Stream Online Business To Business Events Internationally For Livenue
Wexham Springs, UNITED KINGDOM (August 30, 2000) – Madge.web™, a global provider of rich content applications and managed network services, and a subsidiary of Madge Networks N.V. (NASDAQ NM: MADGF), is streaming online corporate and exhibition events for Livenue, the online events portal based in the UK. The joint offering gives customers a complete service for broadening exposure for physical events - such as exhibitions, conferences and product launches - by using Internet technology to reach an international audience.
Livenue is generating interest from the corporate sector, where high-tech and telecomms companies are being targeted and where there is a need to make live events available to a wider audience both in ‘real time’ and ‘on demand’. Prospective applications for the Livenue service include product launches, conferences and training sessions for distributors and resellers.
A recent online event staged for Nortel Networks is a prime example of Livenue’s work. The company launched a new product - Business Communications Manager – and wanted to reach journalists, distributors and resellers based all over the world with a single event that would cut down on the cost and time implications of going ‘on the road’. The launch was staged in London with live streaming over Madge.web’s pan-European broadcast network, Madge Broadcast Network™ (MBN). Using MBN, Nortel Networks was able to guarantee real-time access to the launch presentations from anywhere in Europe. The simultaneous release of information to all interested parties was a breakthrough for the company, and the event was a huge success with many end users.
Livenue is also targeting exhibition and conference organisers who are under increasing pressure to deliver larger and more international audiences to their clients. Livenue allows them to take physical events online, offering a very cost-effective and efficient way of expanding audiences. MBN’s relationship with RealNetworks® and its Real Broadcast Network™ (RBN) means that Livenue’s clients will be able to offer streaming not just across Europe but in the US too. The perception of traditional physical events is having to evolve to include more enticing complementary activities – both for exhibitors and visitors. Making ‘on-demand’ information available online answers these needs and adds to the participants’ experience by allowing ‘virtual visitors’ to sit in on seminar sessions, for example, and interact in real-time without actually having to be at the event.
Rob Bosher, one of Livenue’s directors, said: “Our customers have a very precise need: to dramatically increase exposure to a clearly targeted, but dispersed, audience while at the same time establishing and maintaining effective two-way communication. This would be very difficult to achieve in the physical world, but using rich content and the Internet it suddenly becomes viable. Our relationship with Madge.web allows us to achieve managed distribution of the rich content we produce for our customers to the international audience they require.”
“The primary business driver for Livenue’s customers’ online events is to offer more than can be achieved with a physical event alone,” commented Philip Hooper, broadcast product manager at Madge.web. “Whether it be a trade show, a press conference or dealer seminar, Livenue and Madge.web can increase the potential audience of a corporate occasion without losing the interaction that brings them to life for the participants. Furthermore, on-demand playback of presentations allow interested parties to return to the site for further information. Livenue produces the rich content while Madge.web manages that content and its distribution to audiences throughout Europe and Northern America – a mix that is essential to achieve the customers’ ambitions for their events.”

Madge.web Streams Website Content For Hit Uk Comedy Drama Cold Feet
Granada Broadband to stream exclusive video content filmed behind the scenes of the award-winning comedy series Cold Feet
Wexham Springs, UNITED KINGDOM (September 12, 2000) - Madge.web™, a global provider of rich content applications and managed network services and a subsidiary of Madge Networks N.V. (NASDAQ NM: MADGF), is working with Granada Broadband to stream exclusive video content filmed behind the scenes of the award-winning UK comedy series Cold Feet over its website www.coldfeetonline.co.uk. Launched today, the site uses the Madge Broadcast Network™ (MBN), a high-quality Internet broadcast service deployed in alliance with RealNetworks® and the largest pan-European managed network for streaming media. www.coldfeetonline.co.uk will stream regularly updated video features including interviews with the cast and production team, series three out-takes and a host of other exclusive material over MBN.
“The Cold Feet web site features exclusive footage of the cast which will be streamed every week on the Internet,” commented Simon Bucknall, producer of the Cold Feet website. “Working with Madge.web, we have been able to secure reliable distribution of quality content in what is one of our most ambitious projects to date.”
Granada Broadband needed to ensure that visitors to the site receive high-quality images and sound, so that they revisit the site regularly. As a private broadcast network, MBN can distribute video, audio, animation and special events to websites for live and on-demand viewing, while bypassing the traffic and congestion of the public Internet, thereby allowing consistency of quality.
MBN also has the facilities to scale broadcasts to match the audience size and geographic reach precisely – a first in Europe. These features enable businesses to provide rich content such as movies, music, sport, news, games, events or corporate information on their websites for specifically targeted audiences across Europe, and to the U.S. via its seamless connection to the Real Broadcast Network™ (RBN).
“Granada Broadband has designed the Cold Feet website as an entertainment medium enabling its viewers to continue their enjoyable experience of the television series,” added Phil Hooper, MBN product manager at Madge.web. “Granada is an industry-leading company at the forefront of the new-media revolution and it is imperative that the quality of its TV brand be reflected in this new format. Madge.web has been able to offer Granada Broadband the only solution that enables the formula -- which entertained 9.5 million viewers when the show was screened on television -- to be extended over the Internet across Europe successfully and to the quality required.”
About Granada Media
Granada Media is a substantial, integrated and international producer and broadcaster with strong positions in content creation, free to air broadcasting and pay television, and rapidly growing new media businesses. This is reflected in Granada Media`s organisational structure of Granada Creative, Granada Broadcasting and Granada Broadband respectively. These divisions are supported by Granada Enterprises, which provides the commercial interface between the group and its customers. Granada Media is the largest and most successful company in the UK commercial television sector, producing nearly 6,000 hours of programmes and making 47 per cent of the original programming for ITV, the UK`s national commercial TV network, in 1999. It is also a major supplier for other UK and international broadcasters, selling to more than 120 countries around the world. It owns four major ITV licences - Granada Television, London Weekend Television, Yorkshire Television and Tyne Tees Television - which cover approximately 26 million people, almost half the UK population. Granada also has a film production arm Granada Film and international production companies in Australia, North America, Germany and Hong Kong.
