Vergangenheit

Nachdem die Aktien des Software-Entwicklers General Magic Inc. (NASDAQ: GMGC) im März diesen Jahres ein Hoch nahe der 20-US-Dollar-Marke erreicht hatten (18 3/4 US-Dollar), notierten sie Ende Mai bei unter drei US-Dollar. Seitdem setzte eine Aufwärtsbewegung ein, die die Kurse wieder nahe an die 10-US-Dollar-Marke trieb. Allerdings war dies nur eine Zwischenerholung und der Abschwung ging weiter. Der Kurs pendelte sich bei etwa 4 US-Dollar ein.

Gegenwart

Heute jedoch stiegen die GMGC-Titel vorbörslich bis auf ein Hoch von 6 7/8 US-Dollar. Damit lagen sie über 35 Prozent über dem gestrigen Schlusskurs. Aktuell liegen die Kurse wieder unterhalb von 6 US-Dollar, da viele Anleger erst einmal ihre Gewinne mitnahmen. Der aktuelle Stand: 5 15/16 US-Dollar, +1 1/16 US-Dollar (+21,79 Prozent).

IBM und General Magic

Auslöser für diesen exorbitanten Kurssprung ist eine Vereinbarung, die GMGC heute mit dem Computerkonzern Big Blue IBM (Nyse: IBM) abgeschlossen hat. Diese Vereinbarung der beiden Unternehmen sieht vor, dass die von General Magic entwickelte Spracherkennungssoftware in die von IBM offerierten Produkte (Computer, Notebooks, etc.) eingebunden werden soll. Darin eingeschlossen ist auch der Vertrieb der Software.

Geschäftszahlen

General Magic machte im ersten Halbjahr diesen Jahres (bis zum 30.6.2000) einen Verlust von 28,8 Mill. US-Dollar. Das entspricht einer Zunahme von lediglich vier Prozent, wogegen der Umsatz in den ersten zwei Quartalen des Geschäftsjahres von 335.000 US-Dollar auf 4,9 Mill. US-Dollar zulegen konnte.

Zukunftsaussichten

Ein Kursziel der deutschen Wirtschaftszeitschrift Capital liegt bei 25 US-Dollar. Die vor kurzem eingesetzte Bodenbildung könnte durch den heutigen Kursanstieg verstärkt werden. Allerdings könnte sie trotz allen noch sehr lange anhalten und bei ca. 7 US-Dollar erst einmal eine Verschnaufpause einlegen. Der Deal mit IBM, finanzielle Details wurden nicht bekannt gegeben, könnte jedoch Signalwirkung haben und noch weitere Vereinbarungen mit anderen Unternehmen nach sich ziehen. Einen positiven Einfluss auf die Geschäftszahlen dürfte das geschlossene Abkommen mit IBM aber auf jeden Fall besitzen.

folks, the most meaningful part of the PR is the IBM commentary on the new agreement. i would place my focus there.
