Wollte auch mal meine Meinung zu Medarex los werden.
Ich glaube das wir an Medarex noch viel Freude haben werden.
Ich weiß nicht ob von euch jemand im Live Chat der Telebörse am Montag
war.Es wurde auf jedenfall Medarex als einer der besten Werte der Antikörperherstellung zum Kauf empfohlen.
Heute lese ich mir den GLOBAL BIOTECH INVESTING durch und es steht bei der Rubrik Biotech-Kaufempfehlungen für Septemper 2000
Medarex kaufen (Morgan Stanley).

Hi Leute,

heute NASDAQ: Schluss 110$ !! In den letzten 45 Minuten gings von 106 auf 110. Die magische Grenze.

Weiss wer was da los war? Es waren 3 grössere Orders a 7,500 Aktien. Somit jeweils ein Wert von ca. 800.000$ Das waren bestimmt keine Privatanleger.

Da muss es doch as Neues geben, wenn bei solch Kursen auch Institutionelle einsteigen.

Na, noch einmal Glück gehabt, 101$. Zum Schluss gings noch einmal hoch.

Montag/Dienstag ist eigentlich immer schwach bei Medx. Kann am Montag ziemlich übel werden. Falls wir 100$ signifikant unterschreiten wirds bis auf 87$ runtergehen.

Das waren einfach die Limitverkäufe, die bei 100 rauswollten. oder aber käufer, die gesehen haben, dass das kein langfristiges unterschreiten wird!

Das waren nicht unbedingt Käufer, die WISSEN, dass es nach oben geht, denn die würden dann ja auch bei anderen Kursen kaufen und nicht unbedingt diese kritische Marke nutzen um daraunter (!!!) zu kaufen.


Also, lass tuns abwarten, der split ist schonmal nicth schelcht und jetzt sollte mal wieder ne super news rauskommen. BIs ende das jahres werden wir die 130US$ evtl. sogar 150 best. nochmal sehen (nur so ein gefühl, ich kanns nicht belegen)

Es war nicht nur eine große Kauforder bei $99,- zu erkennen, sondern es waren auch einige 10.000 er Verkaufsordern die den Kurs bei ca.
$107 und ca. $105,- nach unten gedrückt haben. Ähnliches gab es auch vor den letzten Quartalszahlen zu beobachten. Danach ging es auch nochmal 10 % (Ca. $ 82,- ) runter aber dann bis auf knapp $119,- hoch. Hat jemand eine Erklärung. Heute ja wieder Kaufempfehlung von dem Nasdaq - Menschen (A..?) in Euro am Sonntag.

Diese Aktie ist die vielleicht am meisten unterbewertete an der Nasdaq. Hier ist die Luft noch lange nicht raus und es wird auch keine Blase platzen. Das Chance-Risiko-Verhältnis ist extrem günstig. Tiefer kann es bei dem KGV eigentlich gar nicht mehr gehen. Es hat sich inzwischen ein Boden ausgebildet.
Wenn der Widerstand durchbrochen wird, dürfte die Aktie explodieren. Das sind absolute Einstiegskurse. Günstiger wird die Aktie nicht mehr zu haben sein. Die 1000%-Chance. Wer jetzt nicht kauft, ist selber Schuld. Morgen kommt möglicherweise eine Ad-Hoc-Mitteilung. Ein Branchenkenner hat mir erzählt, dass bald weitere Hammernews zu erwarten sind. Die Infos sind aus absolut zuverlässiger Quelle. Die Aktie ist ein klarer Kauf. Ein kommender Highflyer, der zur Zeit fundamental stark unterbewertet und charttechnisch sehr interessant ist. Die Aktie wird vielleicht sogar die neue AMGEN. Man sollte kaufen, bevor der Zug abfährt. So billig wird es den Wert vielleicht nie wieder geben. Am besten sofort einsteigen.
Es handelt sich um eine absolute und bisher noch unentdeckte Perle. Die Zocker sind längst raus. Auch die zittrigen Hände sind draußen, jetzt kann es nur noch aufwärts gehen. Der Kurs wird derzeit noch künstlich niedrig gehalten. Da kaufen zur Zeit offenbar Fonds. Es werden große Stückzahlen eingesammelt. Ich habe heute noch einmal nachgekauft. Die Entwicklung verläuft genauso, wie ich es vorhergesehen habe. Wenn der Kurs aufgrund von Gewinnmitnahmen noch einmal fällt, werde ich weiter kaufen. Die Aktie wird garantiert steigen. Dem Vernehmen nach sollen derzeit mehrere Kaufstudien in Arbeit sein, u.a. von verschiedenen internationalen Investmentbanken, die in Kürze veröffentlicht werden.
Fast alle Analysten haben den Wert inzwischen auf aggressiv kaufen gestellt. Sehr wahrscheinlich dürfte die Aktie am Freitag auch in verschiedene 3sat-Depots aufgenommen werden sowie in zahlreiche Musterdepots von Börsenbriefen. Es gibt zudem im Markt Gerüchte, dass mehrere Akquisitionen anstehen und ein Listing am Dow Jones erwogen wird. Zudem sollen die Planzahlen für die Jahre 2000 und 2001 bald drastisch angehoben werden.
Übrigens hat mir jemand aus Kulmbach erzählt, dass in der nächsten Ausgabe von „Der Aktionär" wahrscheinlich ein mehrseitiger sehr euphorischer Bericht erscheinen soll. Mal sehen, ob auch n-tv heute noch was bringen wird.
Mein Kursziel: konservativ geschätzt,1000$!
Unbedingt sofort kaufen!!!!!!!!! Die Rakete wird in Kürze zünden! Der Kurs geht dann durch die Decke!!!

Medarex to Develop Fully Human Antibodies for Lilly

Medarex, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company announced today that Medarex has agreed to produce fully human antibodies for a number of Lilly disease targets. Lilly expects to pursue the development of these antibodies as therapeutic pharmaceutical products.

Under the agreement, Medarex will receive an immunization fee for each target against which it raises an antibody. In addition, Medarex expects to receive license fees, as well as payments if products arising under the agreement attain certain milestones and a royalty on sales of such products.

Medarex Announces Third Quarter Financial Results

Medarex, Inc. announced today third quarter results for the three-month period ending September 30, 2000. During this period, Medarex reported revenues and interest income totaling $12.5 million and a net loss of $2.8 million, or $0.04 per share. These results compare with revenues and interest income totaling $1.6 million and a net loss of $5.1 million, or $0.08 per share, for the same period in 1999. The revenues and interest income increase for the three months ended September 30, 2000 relates principally to interest earned on the proceeds received from the Company`s March 3, 2000 follow-on public offering of its common stock. An increase in general and administrative expenses included $3.8 million in non-cash charges for options and warrants issued to employees and consultants. Prior to a provision for income taxes of $4.1 million primarily related to the recognition of revenue for existing business agreements, the Company had pre-tax earnings of $1.3 million, which compares to a net loss of $5.1 million for the same period in 1999. Although the Company had a profitable third quarter prior to the provision for income taxes, the Company does not anticipate that it will be consistently profitable for the foreseeable future. Medarex also reported for the nine-month period ended September 30, 2000 revenues and interest income totaling $26.3 million and a net loss of $12.6 million or $0.18 per share. These results compare with revenues and interest income totaling $9.2 million and a net loss of $10.4 million or $0.16 per share for the same period last year. Medarex and Biosite(R) Diagnostics to Collaborate With Eos Biotechnology

Medarex, Inc. and Biosite Diagnostics Incorporated and Eos Biotechnology, Inc. today announced a collaboration to generate antibodies to genomics-derived targets. In this multi-year alliance, Eos expects to employ high-affinity Omniclonal(TM) antibodies developed from Biosite and Medarex`s Trans-Phage Technology(SM) in research to attempt to validate novel genomic-derived antibody targets and/or identify promising product candidates for the treatment of cancer.

Under the collaboration, Biosite expects Eos to provide tens of targets over three years. Biosite will receive certain diagnostic rights to targets. In addition, Biosite will receive from Eos development fees, annual target maintenance fees, milestone fees upon the achievement of certain milestones and royalties from successful products resulting from the joint research efforts. Medarex expects to receive payments from Eos pursuant to its existing agreement with Eos.

Die Versuchung war groß die letzten Tage einzusteigen, und ein bisschen Panik ist in mir aufgekommen als der Kurs von 17 auf 23 Euro gestiegen ist.

Aber aus Fehlern die man einmal gemacht hat lernt man gewöhnlich.Ich will nicht wieder zu früh einsteigen, den ich glaube das der Kurs nocheinmal auf 13 -15 Euro zurück kommt. Grund ist das der Septemper immer zu den schlechten Börsenmonaten zählt, und ich hoffe das das so bleibt, auch wenn man sich momentan an nichts mehr halten kann was früher einmal gezählt hat.

Auf sicht von 6 Monaten sehe ich Medarex wieder bei 50-60 Euro.

Medarex hopes antibody bet pays off

PRINCETON, N.J. (CBS.MW) -- Back in the spring of 1997, Medarex Inc. decided to gamble its future on genetically engineered mice that seemed to belong in the realm of science fiction.



The small biotechnology firm paid $65 million to acquire GenPharm International Inc., another biotech company that had genetically modified mice so that the animals made human antibodies.

At the time, $65 million was equal to about three-quarters of Medarex`s total stock market value.

"It was a big bet for us, but one that we felt strongly was right for us -- and it paid off," Medarex CEO Donald Drakeman said in an interview with CBS MarketWatch.com.

The acquisition certainly paid off for shareholders -- at least ones who got in at the right time. Medarex`s stock soared from a spilt-adjusted $3.88 on the day the deal was announced to a peak of more than $100 in early 2000, as investors got swept up in the excitement about the disease-fighting potential of mouse-made antibodies. Even with a sharp slide this year, the stock is up over 400 percent since Medarex (MEDX: news, chart, profile) unveiled its plans to buy GenPharm.

But whether the bet will translate into benefits for patients and profits for Medarex, remains to be seen. Medarex has yet to get any of the "fully human" antibodies made by the mice on the market and Drakeman won`t say when he expects the first one to be commercially available. The CEO, who helped found Medarex in 1987, also won`t say when he expects the Princeton, N.J.-based company to be reliably profitable.

Medarex did post a profit in the second quarter, but cautioned that it "does not anticipate that it will be consistently profitable for the foreseeable future."

Even one of Medarex`s Wall Street fans, analyst Maged Shenouda at J.P. Morgan, doesn`t expect Medarex to be profitable until 2006 and he projects it will be 2004, at the earliest, before the company has a product on the market.

Still, Shenouda is optimistic about Medarex`s prospects and he calls its stock a buy for long-term investors. He forecasts Medarex`s revenue will swell from $22 million last year to $1.8 billion in 2010, driven by sales of antibody-based treatments for maladies ranging from cancer to arthritis.

Antibody development

To understand why Shenouda and some other analysts are bullish on Medarex requires a little bit of biotech history. Since the industry`s earliest days 25 years ago, companies have sought to capitalize on the promise of so-called monoclonal antibodies.

Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system to ward off illness. Because antibodies are highly selective in attacking targets on disease-causing cells, it appeared they would be superior to traditional drugs, which tend to obliterate healthy cells along with sick ones. Some went so far as to dub antibodies "magic bullets."

"Antibodies are nature`s way of treating disease," said Bennett Weintraub, vice president with Btech Investor, a biotech investment and consulting firm.



But antibodies failed to live up to the high hopes. As it turned out, patients` immune systems fought off the antibody drugs because they had been produced in mice. Cheap and plentiful, mice had seemed to be an ideal source for making antibodies until it became clear the antibodies would be rejected because they weren`t human.

Companies ultimately found a way around the problem by modifying the antibodies to make them more compatible with the human immune system. These "humanized" antibodies didn`t provoke the same rejection as the early, unmodified ones did.

Today, there are several successful antibody treatments on the market, including two cancer drugs marketed by biotech giant Genentech (DNA: news, chart, profile) and a rheumatoid arthritis drug marketed by Johnson & Johnson (JNJ: news, chart, profile).

Medarex and archrival Abgenix are taking the next step in the evolution of antibody-based drugs. Both Medarex and Fremont, Calif.-based Abgenix (ABGX: news, chart, profile) make "fully human antibodies" by using mice whose own genes for making antibodies have been replaced with human genes. Analysts expect there will be even less risk of rejection with these antibodies than the ones currently available.

"Fully human antibodies are the latest advance in antibody technology," said J.P. Morgan`s Shenouda.

Partnerships

There aren`t, however, any fully human antibodies on the market yet. But Drakeman said it`s only a matter of time before Medarex and other companies start selling the treatments. The chief executive said he`s confident about Medarex`s prospects because the company has so many efforts under way to develop medications. Medarex has numerous deals with biotech firms, including Amgen (AMGN: news, chart, profile) and Human Genome Sciences (HGSI: news, chart, profile), and pharmaceutical giants, such as Eli Lilly (LLY: news, chart, profile) and Johnson & Johnson, to come up with new antibody drugs.

Through the partnerships, Medarex provides its technology to larger companies in return for "milestone payments" that are triggered by success in the laboratory. Medarex is also eligible to receive royalties if the research efforts lead to medications that reach the market.

In addition, Medarex has partnerships with smaller biotech firms. Under these arrangements, Medarex bears more of the drug development costs but stands to reap a greater share of potential sales. Much of Medarex`s research is focused on cancer treatments, but the company`s technology is also being used to find potential treatments for everything from allergies to heart disease to rheumatoid arthritis.

By the end of 2002, the company expects to have applied for government clearance to begin testing of 10 additional experimental drugs, Drakeman said. He said that by licensing technology to big pharmaceutical and biotech companies, Medarex can generate the cash to pay for its own drug development efforts.

"Each year, we`re doing more and more," the 47-year-old Drakeman said. "We`ve put our technology into more hands and we`ve seen more products under development. You`ll see many new products spring from our human antibody technology base."

Abgenix`s shadow

But not everyone is convinced Medarex`s future is so bright. Even among analysts and investors optimistic about fully human antibodies, many say it`s Abgenix that`s the leader in the field. Wall Street clearly has a preference for Medarex`s competitor -- Abgenix`s total stock market value is about $2.5 billion while Medarex`s market cap is about $1.5 billion.

Analysts say Abgenix is accorded a significantly higher value because investors see more promise in the California company`s pipeline of potential medications.

"Abgenix is seen as very strong across the board, including manufacturing and clinical development" said Needham & Co. analyst Carolyn Pratt who rates Abgenix a "strong buy" but doesn`t formally cover Medarex.



"People put a premium on the fact that Abgenix`s management has executed flawlessly, as well as the quality of Abgenix`s partners and its current and future products."

That doesn`t mean, though, that Medarex is without its share of fans in the investment world. Paul LaRocco, a portfolio manager with Berger Funds, said he likes the balance in Medarex`s strategy: generating revenue through technology licensing agreements with partners while simultaneously investing in developing its own drugs.

"It`s a very interesting business model," said LaRocco, whose Berger Small Company Growth Fund invests in Medarex. "They`re getting milestone payments all along the development process and they`re able to invest that money in their own pipeline that has a huge potential upside down the road."

But LaRocco also offers some words of caution on Medarex. Like all biotechs, he said, Medarex stock could take a tumble if there`s a significant setback in clinical development.

`Shots on goal`

Medarex`s stock is highly volatile. After peaking at more than $100 during the genomics euphoria early last year, the stock fell as low as $11.75 early this year. The stock has recovered to around $19.50, but it`s still off more than 50 percent from the beginning of 2001.

Drakeman said the stock`s wild ride is a reflection of overall investor sentiment about biotechnology, not a reflection on Medarex`s business. As for the risk that a clinical development setback could send the company`s stock reeling, Drakeman said that`s not as big of a concern as it was a few years ago.

He said that Medarex is insulated from the negative effects of a disappointment with any one experimental compound because the technology acquired from GenPharm can produce so many medications.

"It`s very easy to wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat if you`re worried about one big product," Drakeman said. "But because we now have so many potential products, we no longer have that fear of a single event. One of the great strengths of our business model is that we have so many shots on goal."
