NTS Communications Selects Copper Mountain Networks` Equipment
to Provision DSL Service in Southwestern States
MONDAY, OCTOBER 02, 2000 6:24 AM
- BusinessWire
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 2, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Copper Mountain Networks, Inc.
(Nasdaq:CMTN), a leading provider of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions for business and
residential users, today announced that NTS Communications, one of the nation`s largest privately
owned telecommunications companies, has standardized on Copper Mountain`s CopperEdge(R)
200 DSL Concentrator to provision its new DSL service for residential and business customers in
eight Southwestern markets. NTS selected the CopperEdge 200 over competing solutions
because of its ease of use, provisioning flexibility, support for multiple network models, and
support for multiple DSL services, including business-focused symmetric DSL (SDSL) service
and residential-oriented G.lite service, from a single chassis. Copper Mountain`s IP IQ(TM)
technology was also an important factor in NTS` decision, as it will allow NTS to cost-effectively
scale and manage multiple concurrent services for thousands of subscribers, without the virtual
circuit aggregation problems inherent in ATM-based solutions. NTS plans to roll out DSL services
in a number of tier 2 and tier 3 cities in the Southwest, including Amarillo, Lubbock,
Midland/Odessa, Wichita Falls, Abilene, San Angelo, Texas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"NTS Communications is taking the lead in expanding the reach of DSL service in the
Southwest," said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Copper Mountain Networks. "Copper
Mountain`s solutions enable NTS to cost-effectively extend the benefits of high-speed DSL
broadband access to business and residential customers in the region`s smaller urban centers."
"We standardized on Copper Mountain`s CopperEdge 200 because of its ease of use," said
Brad Worthington, COO of NTS Communications. "When we evaluated the CopperEdge 200
against competing solutions, we found it superior on all counts, including ease of provisioning,
scalability, and management. NTS is also committed to addressing all DSL needs and needed
the flexibility to provide SDSL, IDSL and ADSL G.lite to our business and residential customer
base. Copper Mountain provides that capability with the additional benefit of enabling advanced
services/provisioning capabilities that cannot be matched by other competitors in the
marketplace. We were also especially impressed by Copper Mountain`s reputation for reliability
and its commitment to customer support."
About the CopperEdge 200 DSL Concentrator
Copper Mountain`s CopperEdge 200 DSL Concentrator supports up to 192 ports of voice and
data services, using any combination of ADSL, G.lite, IDSL, and SDSL concurrently from a single
chassis. Equipped with IP IQ(TM), Copper Mountain`s robust IP service intelligence, the
CopperEdge 200 dynamically recognizes user profiles and services at the IP layer and allocates
network resources appropriately, enabling service providers to maximize bandwidth utilization,
scale to meet the escalating demands of millions of subscribers and support advanced services
such as voice, data and multi-cast traffic. Assured interoperability with a wide range of CPE,
Integrated Access Devices, switches, routers and gateways through Copper Mountain`s
CopperCompatible(TM) program enables service providers to integrate the CopperEdge 200
seamlessly into best-in-class network platforms. Copper Mountain`s CopperView(TM) network
management tools enable remote configuration, fault analysis and performance monitoring
capabilities for thousands of DSL concentrators and companion CPE from a single, central
location.
The CopperEdge 200 is designed for collocation in phone company central offices (COs) or
deployment in basement phone rooms of large multi-tenant unit buildings. A companion model,
the CopperEdge 200 RT (Remote Terminal), optimized for the extreme temperature and humidity
fluctuations of the remote terminal environment, enables DSL service providers to deliver
high-value broadband voice and data services to business and residential customers whose
phone access lines are connected to digital loops.

TollBridge Technologies and Copper Mountain to Sponsor Workshop on Revenue-Enhancing DSL Services at Broadband MTU 2000 Summit
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2000 8:28 AM
- BusinessWire
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct 10, 2000 (BUSINESS:CMTN), a leading provider of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions for business and residential users, today announced that the two companies will present a workshop on leveraging DSL to create high-value services at the Broadband MTU 2000 Summit.
The workshop, "Successfully Deploying High Speed Access Technologies for the MTU Sector," is aimed at service providers and building owners/managers in the multi-tenant unit (MTU) market. TollBridge and Copper Mountain will present the workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 PM at the New York, New York Hotel in Las Vegas.
(Editors` Note: Please visit www.icmny.com for more information on workshop dates and locations.)
Successfully Deploying DSL-Based Services for the MTU Sector
DSL has proven to be an optimal broadband technology for serving business and residential tenants in small, medium and large buildings. This workshop gives service providers and MTU owners and managers the opportunity to learn how to leverage DSL to offer revenue-generating services and be profitable at the same time. During the workshop, TollBridge and Copper Mountain will address the following topics:
-- The DSL services market opportunity and business case
-- How to maximize return on investment with multiple
revenue-generating services such as Internet access, Voice
over DSL (VoDSL), Video, Frame Relay services, and Enterprise
VPNs
-- Establishing and enhancing QoS
-- Components that speed DSL deployments for a nationwide
footprint and service provisioning--the DSL concentrator, CPE,
and voice gateway
-- Simplifying always-on high-bandwidth connections for tenants
-- Benefits for service providers, property owners/managers, and
tenants
Immediately following the workshop, TollBridge Technologies and Copper Mountain will host a live demonstration of VoDSL as an MTU application using Copper Mountain`s MTU DSL Concentrator and TollBridge`s TB 200 Voice Gateway
"Our relationship with Copper Mountain gives us access to the fastest growing market segment in DSL," said Agnes Imregh, vice president of marketing at TollBridge Technologies. "The MTU market is the sweet spot in the DSL market, and this joint workshop will show property owners how easily in-building technology can be used to generate high-margin revenue by provisioning multiple services. TollBridge knows better than anyone what`s necessary to address this market in terms of cost, connectivity, functionality, and revenue."
U.S. DSL MTU Market
The total potential U.S. in-building DSL market is estimated at 14 million subscribers. Building owners/managers and service providers can offer multiple, high-speed access services over DSL -- including Internet Access, VoDSL, video, and Frame Relay services -- to enhance revenues and profitability.
"DSL has proven to be an optimal broadband technology for serving business and residential tenants in small, medium, and large buildings," said Richard Sekar, director of MTU product marketing at Copper Mountain Networks. "This workshop will provide building owners an opportunity to understand the key steps for creating and identifying services, rapid deployment, and maximizing return on investment."
