It’s A Wireless, Wireless, Wireless World
My favorite play in the world of high tech is Metricom (MCOM:NASDAQ).
I first played MCOM in my trading service, The Rogue Trader. In June 1999, the company received a cash investment of $600 million from Paul Allen and MCI Worldcom. At the time, the investment was double the market cap of the company.
Metricom was trading for about $18 a share at the time. I initiated a trade, anticipating the re-rating by the market would take it to 1 times its cash position.
It certainly did.
In a matter of two weeks, MCOM went from $18 a share to over $50.
But, as usual with most Rogue Trader plays, I did more research on the company and their product — a wireless modem called Ricochet.
I liked what I found.
Subscriptions to MCOM’s Ricochet are expected to grow at a massive clip.
It’s estimated there will be 40,000 subscribers to Ricochet in FY2000. That figure is expected to grow to 362,000 in FY2001... 1.8 million in FY2002... 3.8 million in FY2003... and 5.7 million in FY2004.
And you know me — I love hitching a ride on massive growth like this.
Metricom currently trades at a market cap of $1.1 billion. This figure is extremely low considering the company’s potential.
Check this is out — MCOM is expected to take its revenues from $10 million this year to more than $121 million next year. In FY2003, revenues are expected to swell to $1.5 billion.
Assuming Metricom meets all of these milestones, we’re probably looking at a $20 billion company in just a few years.
Buy Metricom (MCOM:NASDAQ) under $40.

Also Ihr seht CE findet MCOM sogar bei 40$ günstig bewertet...aktuell steht der Kurs bei 22.5$!!!

Metricom Takes Ricochet Nationwide; Mobile Users Can Now Access Their Information in 11 Service Areas
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Metricom, Inc.
(Nasdaq:MCOM), a leading high-speed wireless network operator, today
announced the expanded availability of Ricochet 128 kbps coverage to
include the following new markets: Baltimore, Dallas, Houston,
Philadelphia, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition,
the Company reports significant progress in the New York service area
allowing commercial availability in Manhattan. These areas join the
current Atlanta and San Diego 128 kbps markets as well as the
Washington D.C. and Seattle 28.8 kbps service areas, allowing all
Ricochet users to take advantage of the freedom of wireless mobility
on a nationwide basis. From these 11 service areas, Ricochet access is
available from about 400 cities or jurisdictions.
"Ricochet stands ready to give mobile information-workers freedom
to work where and when they want. By replicating all the capabilities
of in-office information access, Ricochet enhances productivity,
providing users a distinctive workplace advantage," said Tim
Dreisbach, chairman and CEO of Metricom. "In addition, Ricochet`s
high-performance and newly expanded reach offer a very easy-to-use
alternative for those unable to link up to other always-on services
like cable and DSL."
"In a market place full of false promises about user speed and
experience, constraints on Web links, clipped graphic content, and a
lot of fine print about metered pricing, Ricochet offers the true
Internet experience with the reality of high-speed access on a
nationwide basis now," concluded Dreisbach.
Ricochet lets people break free from the office by taking the
network with them to many locations and staying connected to the
information and people required to be productive and add balance to
their lives. Inside or outside the office, on a desktop or portable
computer, Ricochet users gain access to the full Internet with its
millions of Web pages, graphics, and streaming media. Because Ricochet
is based on data networking, using the standard protocols of the
Internet, access to the Web and company networks is easily
accomplished at high-performance speeds without the need to strip off
graphics or eliminate attachments from email. In addition, access to
even large amounts of data is cost-effective and predictable with
Ricochet`s flat-rate unmetered pricing structure.
To enhance nationwide coverage, the company has seamlessly
integrated its previous-generation Ricochet 28.8 kbps technology and
is actively upgrading the Seattle and Washington D.C. markets with the
higher speed equipment. Metricom is currently constructing the 128
kbps network in an additional ten major markets while it continues to
expand coverage in all eleven of the current service areas. In the
ever-expanding Ricochet coverage, mobile professionals can also access
service in 15 airports across the country. Metricom plans to continue
building out its network during 2000 and 2001, lighting up and
launching markets as they become available until an initial 46 markets
are completed.

Service Providers can be viewed at www.ricochet.com.
"For GoAmerica`s corporate customers, enabling employees to be
productive wherever business takes them, is a top priority," said Joe
Korb, executive vice president and director of GoAmerica, Inc.
"Ricochet high speed wireless access, combined with our Go.Web
encryption and compression technology, represents an ideal offering
for enterprises seeking speed, security and flexibility."
"With Ricochet powering Juno`s mobile broadband wireless Internet
access, Juno subscribers gain the high-speed they crave without being
limited to a single location," said Charles Ardai, Juno`s president
and CEO. "Our goal is to make it possible for anyone to access Juno
from anywhere, at the speed they require, and our partnership with
Metricom brings us a step closer to fulfilling that promise."
"We have been involved with Ricochet for five years, hearing the
praise for the service along with the desire for even higher speeds
and expanded coverage," said G.T. Finn, president, Wireless
WebConnect!. "Experiencing first-hand the excitement surrounding the
new 128 kbps service, we expect the expanded footprint will be
appealing to Ricochet Webconnect! customers who enjoy the freedom of
connecting without wires."
Awarded "Best Internet Service" in June at PC Expo, Ricochet is
the industry`s first wireless mobile access solution to duplicate
high-speed wired access. Ricochet lets people view and download full
Web content, send and receive email with attachments, link to
corporate intranets through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and use
the applications, information and services they want. Those accessing
the Internet and their entire desktop with Ricochet enjoy the
experience they are accustomed to in the office, but with the added
benefit of being untethered and able to take the office anywhere in
coverage -- to an off-site meeting, client site, home, a park bench,
airport, on the road -- anytime being connected is important.
About Metricom
Metricom, Inc. is a leading high-speed wireless network operator.
With its high-speed Ricochet mobile access, Metricom is making
"information anytime" possible -- at home, at the office, on the road,
and on many devices. Founded in 1985, Metricom has spent more than 15
years on the development of its distinctive MicroCellular Data Network
(MCDN) technology. That experience enables Metricom to develop the
fastest wireless mobile data networking and technology available
today. Ricochet has been operating since 1995 at speeds up to 28.8
kbps. The new Ricochet, delivering user speeds of 128 kbps, is
currently available in nine markets and is connected to the 28.8 kbps
service areas to increase coverage for mobile professionals. Coverage
will continue expanding, and is targeted to reach 46 markets. For more
information, visit Metricom at www.metricom.com.
About MCDN and Ricochet
Metricom has chosen a decidedly different approach with its
MicroCellular Data Network (MCDN) technology -- the platform for
Ricochet. Using unique MicroCells that reuse spectrum to minimize
capacity slowdown and deploying at raw network data rates of 1 Mbps,
MCDN provides Ricochet end-user speeds of 128 kbps. This approach
allows Metricom to offer Ricochet Authorized Service Providers the
opportunity to give customers access in a way that really shows the
Internet in all its glory -- full access to the desktop and all things
Web. At performance levels rivaling wired connections, Ricochet
provides wireless mobile access to corporate networks and the Internet
at speeds of 128 kbps, with flat rate pricing, always on connections,
and full access to all things Web. Available through Authorized
Service Providers, Ricochet sets you free from the office. Visit
