Hallo!
Bin seit längerem in SCM investiert, habe schon viel leiden müssen.
Was meint ihr, was steckt da noch drin?

Certification of Open Standards-Based Digital Television Receivers Paves the Way for U.S. Retail Market
LOS GATOS, Calif., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- SCM Microsystems (Nasdaq: SCMM; Neuer Markt: SMY) today announced the availability of its second generation POD Tool. The POD Tool will be a key element of certification testing of OpenCable(TM)-compliant digital TV receivers by Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs), a research and development consortium of cable television system operators. The certification process is a critical milestone in the development of a retail market for digital cable equipment that will offer U.S. consumers greater choice of applications and services.
In order to develop the next generation of digital television devices and facilitate retail availability of digital cable receivers, CableLabs has coordinated the OpenCable initiative. OpenCable specifies the interface between a digital cable set top box, cable-ready TV or entertainment PC (each with a specialized security interface) and a corresponding security device, known as a Point of Deployment (POD) module, that decrypts the secure signal initiated by the cable operator. As the leading provider of digital TV security modules worldwide, SCM has applied its expertise to develop the POD Tool to assist CableLabs in testing compatibility between receivers and POD modules.
"SCM has been a key contributor to the OpenCable process, and their expertise in digital TV security interfaces made them the ideal partner to develop such a device," said Don Dulchinos, Vice President of OpenCable at CableLabs. "With this new release of the tool, CableLabs now has the technology needed to efficiently test OpenCable compliant receivers, a significant step in making retail availability of such devices a reality."
SCM`s first generation POD Tool, released a year ago, has enabled several "early adopter" consumer electronics manufacturers to develop OpenCable receiver prototypes. The second generation POD Tool announced today has significantly enhanced analysis capabilities to improve its use as a diagnostics device, and it now fully emulates the behavior of a POD module. As such, the tool becomes a reference device for receiver manufacturers needing to validate their designs to ensure interoperability between their receiver and POD modules that will be deployed by cable operators.
"SCM has included its own POD technology in developing the POD Tool to ensure that it completely emulates a POD in every respect," said Luc Vantalon, Vice President of Business Development with SCM Microsystems, Inc. "With the tool, manufacturers will be able to pre-qualify their receivers in advance of submitting their design for certification. And, of course the POD Tool lends itself well for use as an `in-line` production test tool."
The new POD Tool is available immediately from SCM Microsystems. Current POD Tool users can upgrade to second generation capabilities through software downloads available from the SCM Microsystems website, www.scmmicro.com.

(IDG) -- The U.S. has been lagging behind Europe when it comes to the adoption of "smart card" technology, with New York-based American Express Co.`s Blue, the only credit card with an embedded chip on the market.
That`s about to change, as three banks -- Providian Financial Corp., FleetBoston Financial and First USA Bank N.A. -- have announced that they will soon be releasing Visa smart cards. San Francisco-based Providian and Boston-based FleetBoston will launch the cards this month, while Wilmington, Del.-based First USA will launch them sometime in the fourth quarter.
According to bank officials, these cards will provide greater security for online shoppers, reduce costs for Web merchants and allow for other services, such as electronic ticketing.
"The technology and economics now make it viable," said Jay H. Lee, senior vice president of e-business strategic development at FleetBoston Financial.
A year ago, the embedded chips cost $12 each; now, the price has dropped to around $3, he said. In addition, the industry has started to converge on a standard -- Java Card for the readers and Europay Mastercard Visa (EMV) for the payment standards.
"This is the standard," said Theodore Iacobuzio, an analyst at Needham, Mass.-based Tower Group. Not all cards are EMV yet -- many European systems use their own proprietary standards, as does American Express, with its Blue card.
"But people are moving in that direction," Iacobuzio said.
According to Frank Prince, an analyst at Cambridge, Mass.-based Forrester Research, there are two hurdles to widespread adoption. Consumers have to be persuaded to use them, and merchants have to be persuaded to shell out the money to install smart card readers.
"It`s a chicken-and-egg problem," he said.
The banks will try to overcome that problem by issuing free readers to their customers. Providian alone will give out 50,000 readers for customers to plug into their computers.
After those run out, customers will be able to buy them for around $20 each, according to David Alvarez, who heads the integrated card business for Providian.
These readers will allow smart cards to be used with online merchants, who only have to install software.
Merchants with brick-and-mortar stores, on the other hand, will need to install new readers to accept the cards. It`s for this reason that smart cards will continue to also have a magnetic stripe for many years to come, said Iacobuzio. The cards will also have embossed numbers for those merchants who still have the nonelectronic swipers.
Meanwhile, a handful of other Visa card issuers are expected to release their own smart cards in the next few months, which will encourage even more merchants to get involved, Alvarez said.
(IDG) -- Microsoft is retargeting the handheld PC market with its recent announcement of a new package of software based on its Windows CE 3.0 operating system.
The additions to the package make this class of device - usually consisting of a stripped-down, built-in keyboard and either a full- or half-size VGA screen - feel more like a standard Windows PC. Separately, Microsoft has been busy enlisting hundreds of software and systems integration partners to tailor the handhelds for specific industry markets.
The software, dubbed Handheld PC 2000, now includes Internet Explorer 4.0, a built-in client to connect to Windows 2000 Terminal Services and Windows Media Player for multimedia files.
Also new is a smart card API, which will let computer manufacturers add card readers to these handhelds, effectively locking up any data they hold if the devices are lost or stolen. Hewlett-Packard`s new Jornada 720 uses the Handheld PC 2000 software bundle and is the first of the new devices to include a card reader.
"Microsoft and the hardware vendors seem to have had a hard time positioning these kinds of devices and articulating their value," says Michael McGuire, principal analyst for mobile computing at Dataquest, a San Jose market research firm. "Now you`re seeing that the initial strong market for these devices - the `clamshell` units and mininotebook-like computers - will be vertical markets where you`re using a product as part of a specific solution, rather than deploying technology in a general-purpose fashion."
McGuire says a key addition is the built-in client for accessing applications on Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, or Win 2000 Server. This means handheld PCs can be bundled with third-party software for a given market, and through the Terminal Services client access business applications running on Windows NT/2000 servers.
The new Handheld PC software is more aggressively targeted at corporate customers in specific industries, such as healthcare, financial services and manufacturing.

This means handheld PCs can be bundled with third-party software for a given market, and through the Terminal Services client access business applications running on Windows NT/2000 servers.
The new Handheld PC software is more aggressively targeted at corporate customers in specific industries, such as healthcare, financial services and manufacturing.

Hi,
mich würde mal interessieren, in welchem Rahmen
an?
3.Q00
Umsatz(Mio$): 36-38
Gewinn(Mio$): 2-3
@damokless
@dipsy

in Euren Augen bestimmt lächerliche ,Frage
pro Aktie a:normal und b:flüster ?
habe:Concensus Estimate /Share $0,17 , Earnings
Also vielen Dank im voraus,
damo...

In diesem Sinne...
