Business Summary
DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company engaged primarily in the development of LEVULAN Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Photodetection (PD) for multiple medical indications. PDT and PD utilize light-activated compounds such as LEVULAN to induce a therapeutic or detection effect. DUSA is a world leader in topically or locally applied PDT and PD. LEVULAN PDT/PD is a powerful, patented, versatile technology platform which may be useful for the detection and/or treatment of a variety of superficial conditions, such as early cancers, pre-cancers and skin conditions. When delivered to target tissues, LEVULAN (5-aminolevulinic acid), is taken up and converted by fast growing cells into protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), a potent photosensitizer, which can then be activated by an appropriate light source. DUSA has a pipeline of LEVULAN PDT/PD indications under development, all based on this mechanism.
