- Elcoteq gains substantial volume of Ericsson mobile phones in Europe



Ericsson and the Finnish electronics manufacturing services (EMS)
provider Elcoteq Network Corporation have agreed on substantially
increasing outsourcing of the manufacture of Ericsson mobile phones
to Elcoteq in Europe. Since 1997 Elcoteq has manufactured fully box
built Ericsson phones in Estonia and since the beginning of this year
also in Hungary. This agreement signifies a substantial increase in
volumes for Elcoteq in the manufacture of Ericsson mobile phones in
2001, most notably in Hungary.

”Ericsson is known for its innovative and high quality wireless
products. When we decided to reorganize and outsource our own
production in Sweden, it was natural to turn to Elcoteq, who have
been Ericsson’s reliable manufacturing partner for phones and telecom
infrastructure products for 15 years,” says Mr. Jan Ahrenbring, Vice
President Marketing & Communications at Ericsson Mobile
Communications.

”We are very happy about Ericsson’s decision, which further enhances
Elcoteq’s position as the number one EMS company in the world
manufacturing mobile terminals. We will manufacture these phones in
Hungary and in Estonia. We believe this deal offers further proof of
the power of Elcoteq’s co-evolution concept to manage customer
relationships. It also shows that Ericsson is happy with Elcoteq’s
competitive efficiency, the way Elcoteq conducts business in general,
and Elcoteq’s quality and delivery capabilities,” Mr. Tuomo
Lähdesmäki, President of Elcoteq stated.

“Our business prospects for the year 2001 with Ericsson, as well as
with other major customers, are very encouraging. This applies not
only to handset manufacture but also to the manufacture of
communications infrastructure products. Based on this we believe that
Elcoteq’s revenue will continue to grow clearly in excess of 50% next
year as well. For the current year we estimate Elcoteq’s last year`s
sales to nearly triple and profits to improve even more,” Tuomo
Lähdesmäki stated.

Elcoteq will report its Q3 interim results on Monday October 23, 2000
at 9:30 EET.
