U. S. Government Files Claim Against AstroPower, Inc. NEWARK, Del., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AstroPower, Inc. (Nasdaq: APWR), a leading supplier of solar electric power products, today announced that the U. S. Government had filed a civil action against it alleging overbilling of $2.3 million on government contracts. The suit also seeks treble damages and penalties. In the complaint, the government states that for the periods from 1991 through 1995, AstroPower charged the government for costs of its commercial operations. Dr. Allen M. Barnett, President and CEO of AstroPower, commented, "We are disappointed that the government took this action and strongly disagree with their allegations. The central issue of this complaint is the allocation of the costs of our pilot manufacturing line to our government contracts. For a number of years, we have received contract awards from the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) under a program to enable companies to become better manufacturers. To receive an award, a company needed to have a photovoltaic manufacturing operation. During the period alleged in the complaint, the costs at issue were incurred to support the development and improvement of our manufacturing processes, equipment and techniques, and also supported our research and development efforts. We have been in a dispute about overhead rates with the government since mid 1996 and have, to date, been unable to resolve the differences. The government had previously audited and accepted our overhead rate structure for 1991-1993, but has apparently reversed its position. We strongly disagree with their contention, and are disappointed that our efforts over the past five years have not lead to resolution. It is our opinion that the lawsuit is without merit and can be successfully defended." Sorry, da ist ein Fehlerteufel gewesen, einmal reicht...

Lest dazu mal meine Unternehmensbewertung mittels Ertragswertmethode. Die findet Ihr hier im Board weiter unten. Was passiert bei der Berechnung, wenn da einmalig 2,9-7,9 Mio Dollar an Belastungen kommen. Nicht viel. In 2001, oder wann auch immer diese einmaligen ausserordentlichen Aufwände anfallen, würde der Gewinn/Aktie mal auf etwa 0$ sinken. Danach setzt sich die Gewinnreihe normal fort. Insgesamt würde der faire Wert von Astropower dadurch um wahrscheinlich weniger als einen Dollar sinken. Das ist also nix. Ein Kursverfall, wie er am Montag zu sehen war ist nur gerechtfertigt, wenn sich die langfristigen Wachstumsaussichten verringern. Das ist hier natürlich überhaupt nicht der Fall.
Wenn Astropower mit dem Kapazitätsausbau mit der steigenden Nachfrage mithalten kann, dann könnte ich mir durchaus 3-stellige Kurse in 12 Monaten vorstellen. Wie in meiner Bewertung mittels Ertragswertprognose beschrieben, gehe ich dort von einem hohen Diskontierungsfaktor und keinem weiteren Wachstum in 2010 aus. Setzt man das Wachstum, wenn auch natürlich in geringerem Masse, fort und senkt den Diskontierungssatz von 15% auf 12% ergeben sich faire Werte im 3-stelligen Bereich.
Mein Fazit daher: Weiter Kaufen.

AstroPower Gains FSEC Approval of Its Packaged Solar Electric Power Systems; SunUPS System Passes System Design Reviews

NEWARK, Del., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- AstroPower, Inc. (Nasdaq: APWR) announced today that its packaged solar electric power SunUPS(TM) photovoltaic (PV) system is the first PV system with battery storage to be approved under the Florida Photovoltaic Buildings Program of the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). As a result of the approval, utilities and other program partners can receive rebate funds from the State of Florida when installing the SunUPS(TM) system.

AstroPower`s SunUPS(TM) system is a standardized package featuring all necessary components for installation and seamless automatic solar power generation on homes and commercial buildings. Capable of generating up to 5 kW of back-up power during utility outages, this premium power system allows customers to experience uninterrupted power for an unlimited amount of time. The package includes mounting systems for all types of roofs, pre-wired and self-contained power electronics, system wiring and hardware, and a full step- by-step installation manual.

The SunUPS(TM) system was approved after a System Design Review of the overall design and individual major components with respect to applicable codes and standards and the use of accepted industry design practices. "The objectives of these reviews are to ensure quality, safety and code compliance for system designs which, hopefully, ensures reliability and customer satisfaction with installations," said Jim Dunlop, senior engineer at FSEC. The overall purpose of the program, he added, is to encourage the use of prepackaged systems rather than the purchase of individual components.

"FSEC approval means a lot to us because of the organization`s extremely high standards which factor in Florida`s harsh wind and salt air environment," said AstroPower Director of North American Business, Howard Wenger. "FSEC approval also confirms what we`ve been hearing from our partners and installers. Our packaged premium power systems make installation easy and ensure customer satisfaction." Requiring no fuel or maintenance, the system enables consumers to sell excess power generated by the solar panels back to the utility grid during periods of peak demand.

Utilities and other program partners can also receive rebate funds from the State of Florida when installing AstroPower`s SunLine(TM) system. Offering the same prepackaged components of the SunUPS(TM) system without the battery storage, the SunLine(TM) system has also been approved by FSEC.
