After the market closed Tuesday, ADC (ADCT: news, msgs) posted a fourth-quarter, pro forma net income of $138 million, or 18 cents per share, compared to $71 million, or 10 cents per share in the year-ago quarter.
Analysts surveyed by First Call were expecting the company to report earnings per share of 17 cents, on average.
"We were firing on all cylinders as each of our three major business groups and international hit all-time sales in the quarter," CEO William Cadogan said of the latest quarterly results.
Broadband connectivity sales grew 102 percent, year-over-year and North America and Europe remained ADC`s largest sales regions during the quarter.
Total sales for the quarter reached $1.03 billion, up 63 percent over the $634 million in sales seen a year ago, ADC said.
Ahead of the news, shares of the company fell $1.28, or 6.8 percent, to close at $17.53, but rose to $18.44 in after-hours trading on the Island ECN.
Financial outlook
ADC also said it expects to meet fiscal year 2001 earnings-per-share consensus estimates from First Call in the range of 68 cents to 70 cents from sales of about $4.15 billion to $4.3 billion.
In the long-term, ADC`s goal is to reach annual sales growth of 25 percent to 30 percent, with pro forma earnings-per-share growth at the "same or higher" rate.
The company forecasts first-quarter and second-quarter earnings per share of 12 cents and 16 cents, respectively from sales of $850 million and $950 million to $1 billion, respectively.
ADC estimates that third-quarter 2001 profit will fall in range of 18 cents to 19 cents per share from sales of $1.1 billion to $1.15 billion, while fourth-quarter earnings per share will likely fall in the 22-cent to 23-cent range from sales of $1.25 billion to $1.3 billion.
Analysts surveyed by First Call currently expect ADC to report, on average, earnings per share of 13 cents, 16 cents, 19 cents and 22 cents for the first, second, third and fourth quarters of 2001, respectively.
