Also macht weiterhin click click....

Tue Dec 5 DCLK Thomas Weisel Downgrades DCLK to Market Perform
Heute geht`s wohl weiter abwaerts.

At the USB Warburg media investment conference this
week, DoubleClick and 24/7 Media talked about
resetting short-term expectations and the long run. Both
companies are learning from the market downturn, but
DoubleClick is in the best position.
DoubleClick, which has plenty of cash to weather a
storm, confirmed that it cut its workforce by about 100 to
150 people, or less than 10 percent, but noted that the
reductions put the company at its June 2000 headcount.
That`s more than enough people to grow the business.
Jeffrey Epstein, executive VP at DoubleClick, preferred
to call the layoffs "right-sizing the business," but the
implications were clear -- the company didn`t have the
revenue to support the headcount.
DoubleClick spends about $160,000 per year per
employee, Epstein said. That includes compensation,
benefits, the cost of providing office space and other
expenses. More cuts are possible.
Analysts took DoubleClick`s cuts as evidence that the
company is prudent. "Management is extremely focused
on accelerating profitability and monitors very carefully
revenue per employee," said SG Cowen analyst Scott
Reamer, who stuck to his "buy" rating.
Epstein also said something that`s worth considering --
DoubleClick is a leader. Even though DoubleClick is in
rough waters for the foreseeable future, it fully expects
to grab market share, especially for its technology
business. "Would you go with a company that has three
months of cash left and just laid off 30 percent of its
engineering staff?" he asked.
You may find DoubleClick`s optimism a bit strange since
doom and gloom abounds, but the company has the
ammunition to come out of this downturn looking better.
Market leaders in downturns all make a grab for market
share and normally look pretty good when conditions
rebound. We`ve seen it with many tech companies such
as Micron Technology and Applied Materials, which
used the Asia financial crisis a few years ago to increase
their dominance.
Online advertising also has a few trends on its side --
Internet usage is increasing and online advertising is still
growing, but at a more rational pace. When online
advertising picks up again sometime in the second half of
2001, DoubleClick could become even more dominant.
However, don`t be surprised if analysts continue to cut
estimates for DoubleClick.

Web-Werbung funktioniert", so Collins feste Überzeugung.

So where`s the upside? Think of DoubleClick in relative
terms. It looks a lot better than its peers, has a lot of cash
($893 million) and said something very important -- it`s
holding the line on its rate card. Rest assured that
DoubleClick will look much better than Engage
Technologies (Nasdaq: ENGA), which reports earnings
after the bell. As for 24/7 Media (Nasdaq: TFSM), it
needs more funding.
It`s just a hunch, but I`d say DoubleClick is well aware
of the psychological games on Wall Street. If you`re
going to issue a profit warning, do it now because things
are so bad that anything better than bankruptcy looks
good.
In a research note ahead of DoubleClick`s conference
call, Merrill Lynch analyst Henry Blodget said he never
saw a company schedule a negative preannouncement
conference call a day ahead of time (the release came
out Friday). He also noted that most estimates were high
and with DoubleClick trading at $11 with $6 in net cash,
there`s "probably little downside."
One analyst already took the bait on the "bad news is
good news" theory. He noted on the conference call that
he thought DoubleClick`s news would be worse.
Und noch was zur Vorboerse:
DoubleClick (DCLK: news, msgs) rallied $1.19 to $13.13 in
Instinet. The online advertiser said late Monday that it
expects a fourth quarter loss of 3 cents per share. Analysts
surveyed by First Call Corp. had forecast the company
would have a profit of 2 cents a share. The company sees
revenue of between $126 million and $129 million will also
fall below expectations, missing by between 8 percent and 10
percent due to the decline in Web advertising.
Also für die Langzeitinvestoren: Don`t worry, be happy ...

DoubleClick Rises Despite Reduced 4th-Qtr Forecast (Update1)
By Ken Mandel
New York, Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of DoubleClick Inc., the largest online advertising-services company, rose 16 percent as investors disregarded the company`s reduced fourth-quarter sales forecast.
DoubleClick rose $1.95 to $13.89 today. The shares have fallen 89 percent this year.
Internet ad sales haven`t picked up during the holiday season, as cash-strapped Web companies cut spending. The New York- based company may be benefiting from a perception among investors that yesterday`s warning wasn`t as grim as expected, analysts said.
``They were bracing for worse,`` said Michael Legg, a Jefferies & Co. analyst who has a ``hold`` rating on the shares. ``Today`s rise may be that people don`t expect any more bad news.``
DoubleClick said it expects results to range from break-even to a loss of 3 cents a share on sales of $126 million to $129 million in the fourth quarter. That`s as much as 6.8 percent less than the $135.2 million in the third quarter. The company was expected to have a profit of 2 cents a share, the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial.
``The near-term problems are defined but the long-term cloud is still there,`` Legg said. ``While they`re in an attractive industry, the company still has a ways to go.``

DoubleClick-Fusion gescheitert
