recently completed a rigorous testing of the new service with representatives from maritime ship management, energy exploration and government market sectors.

fees or start-up costs for customers to use CMC`s Direct Internet Access.
CMC`s high-speed connection to the Internet is designed to save time and reduce the costs associated with long log-on periods. Also, Direct Internet Access does
not require customized software and users are not be subjected to downloads of unsolicited, time-consuming and costly promotional advertising.
The new service enables CMC customers to seamlessly and quickly access the Internet simply by dialing 28# using Microsoft`s Dial-Up Networking client, available
in all versions of Windows 95/98.
``Direct Internet Access is our newest mobile satellite data service and the first in a series of new services we are introducing throughout the coming months,`` said
Kathryn Y. Holman, vice president and general manager of COMSAT Mobile Communications. ``Innovative new services and promotions are part of our strategy
to give our customers the advantage of mobile communication solutions that are simple and cost-efficient to use.``

COMSAT Mobile Communications to Provide Internet Access Systems
Aboard Cunard & Seabourn Cruise Ships
Passengers and Crew Will Have Easy Access to E-mail and Internet with Simplified Billing
BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2000-- COMSAT Mobile Communications (CMC), a business unit of Lockheed Martin Global
Telecommunications (LMGT), today announced a 3-year agreement to provide global Internet access systems to six Cunard Line and Seabourn Line ships.
The ships include the Cunard liners Queen Elizabeth 2 and Caronia, and the Seabourn ships Seabourn Sun, Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend.
Equipment is currently being installed and full service for passengers and crew will begin on board all ships in the near future.
Under the terms of the agreement, CMC is supplying 128 kbps C-Band and Internet access for each of the six ships and will permit simultaneous transmission of
large amounts of data for Web browsing. The systems being installed provide one of the most advanced shipboard satellite communications solutions available today
with the highest reliability in the industry.
This solution increases onboard communications capacity and provides automated high-speed Internet access so both passengers and crew have greater access to
e-mail to keep in touch with home, family, friends and the office.
Passengers and crew can use the online services to obtain financial information and view e-commerce sites. Passengers and crew can also access the Cunard and
Seabourn homepages that deliver free information about daily activities and services offered onboard.
``A growing percentage of our guests have made e-mail and the Internet a part of their lives,`` said Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of Cunard Line Limited.
``They are coming to expect connectivity in the hotels, resorts and other sites where they vacation. Our investment in Internet technology to provide this access at sea
is just another aspect of our commitment to fulfill or exceed our customers` expectations.``
``COMSAT Mobile Communications makes it possible for Cunard Line and Seabourn Line to offer economical, high-quality, and reliable communications,`` said
Kathryn Y. Holman, vice president and general manager of COMSAT Mobile Communications.
``Our services improve the efficiency of ship operations and are designed to offer both passengers and crew the ability to stay in touch with people around the globe.
Regardless of where the ships are sailing, users can easily connect with the World Wide Web.``
Another key feature to this service agreement is simplified billing. The system`s flexible billing platforms give passengers the ability to use their onboard identity card to
apply Internet usage charges to their ship portfolio or to a major credit card. The feature makes billing and payment simple and easy to understand.

Lockheed Martin Wins Federal Technology Service`s Millennia Task Order
Award To Manage Pentagon`s Network Infrastructure
SEABROOK, Md., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- A $378 million Task Order to manage the computer network which supports the Department of Defense`s (DoD)
Network Infrastructure Services Agency-Pentagon (NISA-P), has been awarded by the GSA/Federal Technology Service (FTS)/Federal Systems Integration and
Management Center (FEDSIM) to Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT - news), the nation`s largest information technology provider to the federal government, using the
FTS Millennia contract.
The Pentagon, the world`s largest office building, has housed the headquarters and nerve center of the National Military Establishment for more than 50 years.
Upgrade of the building`s network infrastructure represents a critical part of a major multi-year, multi-billion dollar renovation now underway. Under this task order,
Lockheed Martin will manage the Pentagon`s backbone communications infrastructure throughout this modernization period.
The network supports 25,000 computer users from the Defense Department`s top policy-makers and senior military leadership to individual action officers within
each branch of service. The network supports administrative desktop systems and interconnects dedicated mission systems for the Office of the Secretary of
Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and each of the military departments.
The award, a 10-year task order authorized under the Federal Technology Service`s Millennia contracting vehicle, includes program and network management;
transition; quality assurance planning; security operations; help desk support; and other process, technical architecture and engineering management services.
Mr. Fred Budd, Director of NISA-P, said, ``We are very excited about beginning this partnership with both Lockheed Martin and FEDSIM to provide data
network support services to the Pentagon user community. This critical mission plays a significant role in the Department of Defense being able to support our war
fighters around the world.``
Mr. Timothy McCurdy, FEDSIM Director, said, ``This project will affect every network user in the Pentagon. We do not take that responsibility lightly. We look
forward to working with our client, NISA-P, and our industry partner, Lockheed Martin, to focus on delivering excellent customer service.``
Linda Gooden Renfro, president of Lockheed Martin`s Information Support Services in Seabrook, Md., said, ``The national significance of this task order to operate
the network that serves as the backbone of our nation`s defense cannot be underestimated. We are proud that GSA/FTS/FEDSIM and NISA-P have chosen
Lockheed Martin in this premier information technology role so vital to DoD`s war-fighting mission.``
According to Rick Johnson, Information Support Services` integrated product team manager for DoD programs, ``The complexity of maintaining and operating a
network this complex under the highest levels of security demands the very best program, technical and integration skills our country`s information technology industry
can provide. We pledge our complete support to affordably provide top performance that will enable the DoD to meet its critical requirements.``

Also, because Securedge Extranet uses low-cost, turnkey solutions, no additional in-house resources are required.
``Securedge Extranet provides businesses unmatched network security in a fully integrated end-to-end platform that supports Web-based transactions,`` said James
J. Welch, president and general manager of LMGT Network Services.
``Our service is backed by year-round, 24-hour customer and technical support and is uniquely suited to support secure network management for such industries as
manufacturing, healthcare, retail, finance, insurance, consulting and transportation among others,`` Welch added.
Securedge Extranet is the latest offering in LMGT`s Securedge portfolio of services. This suite of solutions extends the boundaries of traditional networks to offer
enterprise customers the vital security component needed for network integrity and successful e-transformation of their business in today`s fiercely competitive
e-business environment.
In addition to Securedge Extranet, the portfolio also includes Securedge VPN, Securedge Advisor and Securedge Protector.
Securedge(SM) Advisor delivers network security policy evaluations, network assessments and recommendations to customers based on their requirements.
Securedge(SM) Protector provides customers with a remotely managed firewall solution that includes constant monitoring and intrusion detection features.
Securedge(SM) VPN offers customers alternatives to traditional point-to-point and frame relay networks. The service includes ordering, remote configuration,
provisioning, monitoring and network management of the customer`s end-to-end service.
Remote users can continue to use their existing PC`s because LMGT offers a bundled solution utilizing tunnel terminator equipment and client side software that is
interoperable with multiple platforms, including Windows 95/98/2000, NT, Linux, Solaris and Macintosh.
LMGT`s Securedge VPN bundles the tunnel terminator with the fully managed service enabling customers to communicate securely, yet cost effectively.

COMSAT Mobile Communications Launches
Advanced Prepaid Calling Service
New Service Features a Single Card for All Inmarsat Voice Technologies, Caller Convenience and
Lower Costs
Introductory Purchase Promotion Now Available
BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2000-- COMSAT Mobile Communications (CMC), a unit of Lockheed Martin
Global Telecommunications, today commercially launched its new Prepaid Calling Card Service for satellite calls, designed to
make card use easier and to reduce customer costs.
The new system offers cost-saving features such as six-second decrement billing, off-peak calling, and global rates for callers.
Six-second decrement billing makes call charges more precise than the full minute decrements used by other satellite service
providers.
Off-peak calling gives callers the flexibility to make calls during cheaper calling periods and global rates are available for M4 and
Mini-M users.
Additionally, one CMC prepaid card can be used on all of Inmarsat`s land, sea and air mobile satellite voice technologies including
A, B, M, Mini-M, M4 and Aero-H (aeronautical service), making this the most convenient prepaid card in the market.
``CMC developed this new service to meet our customers` growing demand for prepaid services in the maritime, aeronautical and
land mobile markets,`` said Kathryn Y. Holman, vice president and general manager of COMSAT Mobile Communications.
``Prepaid calling allows customers to manage their communications costs and stay within budget. It also eliminates burdensome
tracking of crew and personal calls, making a single satellite terminal accessible to multiple users.``
The new system is installed in CMC`s Southbury, Connecticut, land earth station and is administered by CMC technicians and
customer service specialists. This reduces operational costs and the savings are passed onto CMC prepaid calling customers.
The new prepaid service is also designed to make satellite calling easier. It incorporates enhanced calling features that include call
continuation, card recharging and simplified dialing. Call continuation is a conveniency feature that allows a caller to continue a call
from one prepaid card to another.
A caller will receive a warning when one minute of call time remains. The caller can then enter a new six-digit authorization
number for a new card and continue the call. Customers can also recharge their CMC calling cards for any amount. To recharge
a calling card, customers need only to have either a major credit card or CMC account.
``COMSAT Mobile`s new Prepaid Calling Card offering is our latest service enhancement and part of a series of new mobile
satellite services and system upgrades we are introducing throughout the coming months,`` Holman said.
``Innovative mobile satellite communications services, applications and promotional campaigns are part of our `Discover the New
COMSAT Mobile Communications Program,` launched to give CMC customers added value for their mobile communications.``
As an introductory promotion, CMC is offering a 250 unit ($50 value) bonus card to each customer who purchases and activates a
pack of 10 cards between now and March 31, 2001. Packs come in 250 and 500 unit card denominations. For more information on

Aerospace Industry Eyes Dot-Com Demise
with Glee
By Kristin Roberts
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The dot-com demise could not have come sooner for
America`s defense and aerospace industry, whose pool of engineers has
dwindled to near crisis levels as science and technology talent jumped ship for
tech startups.
While Internet companies fall apart, some defense industry leaders say
technical workers are beginning to return, slowing the high rate of attrition and
turnover that has worried aerospace executives, legislators and Wall Street.
Still, the problem of depleted talent pools remains serious. U.S. defense
contractors have a graying workforce quickly nearing retirement, fewer
recruits out of a college population that increasingly opts against studying
science, and young technicians eyeing higher wages in other sectors.
``It`s still very much a burning platform, this attrition issue,`` said Phil Cheney,
vice president of engineering at Raytheon Co. (NYSE:RTNb - news).
``Now we`re getting some people back and in this environment we welcome them back. They`re good people,``
said Cheney, who is not related to Dick Cheney (news - web sites), Republican presidential candidate George W.
Bush (news - web sites)`s running mate. ``But we`re not anywhere near where we want to be.``
Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC - news), which makes communications and information technology
systems for surveillance and battle management, said staff turnover has reached 25 percent. Jim Roche, president
of the company`s Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector, said 12 percent of his employees and 6 percent of
managers soon will be eligible to retire.
``We have had difficulty with staffing,`` Roche said at an investors meeting held by Northrop Grumman.
Staffing Squeeze
In 1999, 42 percent of the entire U.S. aerospace workforce was between the ages of 45 and 64, according to data
from the Aerospace Industries Association. About 1 percent of the workforce was older than 65.
At the other end of the age spectrum, only 17 percent of the aerospace workforce was between 25 and 34.
``We are aware our workforce is older than usual,`` said James Fetig, spokesman for Lockheed Martin Corp.
(NYSE:LMT - news), which makes jetfighters and missiles as well as communications and control systems. Fetig
noted that as the industry consolidated, senior workers were kept on, contributing to the higher average age of
employees.
``If they were all to retire at one time in huge lumps over the next five to 10 years, that would be an issue,`` Fetig
said. ``But it`s very doubtful.``
Executives at Raytheon, Litton and Northrop Grumman all echoed Fetig`s view and industry watchers noted that
the retirement issue makes holding on to younger workers more crucial.
Seasoned engineers, and in particular software systems engineers, have been courted by Internet startups,
high-tech and software firms touting cutting edge technology development and golden stock options packages.
As stock prices crumbled, some of their employee stock options became worthless, helping decimate Internet
companies. Since the first half of 2000, once high-profile Web startups have gone belly up, laying off workers and
selling out to larger firms as their stock prices deflated.
That has brought engineers crawling back, executives said.
``With the bursting of the dot-com bubble, we`re beginning to see a lot of people coming back,`` said Tim Long,
vice president of strategic communications and market development at Litton PRC, the information technology
group of military shipbuilder Litton Industries Inc. (NYSE:LIT - news)
``People are coming back to companies that have a sense of adult supervision,`` he said.
MISGUIDED YOUTH?
As for the next generation of technical talent, industry executives and human resources departments say recruiting
became harder as the number of high school graduates pursuing science degrees tumbled.
The slide began in the 1980s. The number of bachelor`s degrees awarded in engineering and engineering
technologies fell 16 percent between 1986-1987 and 1991-1992. It dropped another 3 percent between 1991-1992
and 1996-1997, according to the Department of Education`s most recent data.
In the 1996-1997 school year, 61,185 bachelor`s degrees were awarded in engineering, marking the lowest level
since 1975.
``Enrollments at engineering schools have definitely dropped, and meanwhile the requirement for people keeps
growing,`` Raytheon`s Cheney noted.
As the number of engineering degrees diminished, the popularity of biology, education, health sciences and visual
arts jumped, according to the Education Department data.
That has pushed some companies to start recruiting even earlier to encourage high schoolers to take engineering
courses and, subsequently, jobs with the nation`s defense contractors.
Litton, the largest builder of non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy, has coordinated outreach efforts with high
schools, particularly in Northern Virginia, to combat its roughly 19 percent to 20 percent turnover rate.
Raytheon, maker of missiles and weapons control systems, said it tries to reach high school and elementary
school-age children, giving money through a foundation for science-related education. The company`s retirees also
have formed a group that tutors students in their local school system.
Cautious Optimism
With high school recruiting efforts and the trickle of workers returning from dot-com stints, companies are
cautiously optimistic about having begun to ease fears of a brain drain threatening the nation`s defense technology.
Industry analysts, however, caution against dismissing the issue altogether.
``While the massacre of the dot-coms may have tempered some of the allure of jobs outside of defense, anecdotal
evidence suggests that most defense companies will have to manage this issue very tightly,`` Byron Callan, an
analyst at Merrill Lynch, said.
``We think that this is a very important issue for the defense and aerospace sector because the cash will not flow
and the earnings will not grow without people who can design, develop, produce and support new products and
services,`` Callan noted in a recent report.

Hy Gatsby2,

good trade
Micky

Tja, da hat es uns im letzten Quartal dann wohl doch noch ein bisschen zerrissen. Better luck next year ...

Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems awarded
Astrolink broadband satellite contract
SUNNYVALE, CA, July 20, 1999 -- Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems has been selected to build four
geostationary, Ka-band telecommunications satellites for Astrolink LLC. Astrolink is a strategic venture with
founding partners Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, Telespazio, a subsidiary of Telecom Italia, and TRW
Inc.
The Astrolink satellite system is the most technologically sophisticated capability for the growing global
telecommunications market. The Astrolink constellation will use the Lockheed Martin A2100 satellite bus which
offers design versatility at minimum cost. It has a life span of about 15 years and is compatible with a wide array
of launch vehicles. Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, Sunnyvale, CA, will build the Astrolink satellites
using high-capacity packet-switched payloads manufactured by TRW Space & Electronics Group, Redondo Beach,
CA. Depending on consumer demand, the constellation may increase to as many as nine satellites.
"We are excited to be a part of this revolutionary program and look forward to begin building the Astrolink satellite
constellation. Astrolink is a pioneer of future broadband telecommunication services, just as Lockheed Martin
pioneered the use of Ka-band frequencies which will be used by Astrolink," said Pete Kujawski, President of
Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems.
"We are pleased to have awarded the contract to Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems. The A2100
satellite bus is one of the most competitive in the industry and it will help us lead the race to deploy the first of a
new generation of flexible, reliable, high speed, global wireless data services," said Celso Azevedo, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Astrolink.
"By exploiting the Ka-band, we will be able to provide much larger amounts of data for services such as corporate
Intranets and video-on-demand with smaller antennas than current systems. Astrolink will offer the most
state-of-the-art and cost-effective telecommunication services in the world," Azevedo said.
The Astrolink system will afford commercial subscribers global connectivity for a variety of applications. Providing
much more than simply telephone, fax and data services, Astrolink offers access to applications that require high
transmission rates, such as high-speed internet services, electronic transactions, video-on-demand, video
teleconferencing, telemedicine, telecommuting and private networking capabilities.
A key benefit of Astrolink is dynamic bandwidth allocation, which allows customers to purchase as much or as little
satellite throughput capacity as they require at a given time, instead of paying for a dedicated communications
circuit. Currently, communications satellite users must pay for dedicated transponded circuits, whether they are
used or not. With Astrolink, users will be able to transmit much more data much more affordably, and will not have
to pay for idle time.
The spacecraft will be built at the Lockheed Martin Commercial Satellite Center in Sunnyvale, CA.
Based in Bethesda, MD, Astrolink will focus on the high-growth area of global broadband data services, carrying
traffic for Internet, intranet, multimedia and corporate data networks. Customers will be able to install small
satellite dishes at businesses and homes, to connect quickly and inexpensively to high-speed networks. Astrolink
will provide broadband, multimedia services to businesses and consumers worldwide beginning in 2003. Astrolink
will market its services through Internet, telecom and information technology service providers around the world.
Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems markets, designs and builds geostationary and non-geostationary
communications and remote sensing satellites for customers worldwide, including Lockheed Martin Global
Telecommunications. In addition, Commercial Space Systems offers turnkey space-based solutions including the
spacecraft, ground systems, launch operations and on-orbit support. Commercial Space Systems is an operating
unit of Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space, based in Sunnyvale, CA. Both businesses are part of the Lockheed
Martin Space & Strategic Missiles Sector, one of the four principal business segments of Lockheed Martin
Corporation.
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin is a highly diversified global enterprise principally engaged in the
research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced-technology systems, products and
services. The Corporation`s core businesses span space and telecommunications, electronics, information and
services, aeronautics, energy and systems integration. Employing more than 161,000 people worldwide, Lockheed
Martin had 1998 sales surpassing $26 billion.

Ethentica, Lockheed Martin Unite to Supply Federal, State Governments
With Unparalleled Information Security
No. 1 Federal Systems Integrator Joins Ethentica to Provide Increased Digital Security to the Government Market
LAKE FOREST, Calif., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ethentica Inc., a leading provider of digital security products and services that enable the extended enterprise,
today announced it has signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin Information Systems (NYSE: LMT - news) to be a preferred systems integrator in the federal
and state government markets. Together, these companies will jointly pursue domestic and international sales opportunities and speed the adoption of Ethentica`s
authentication solutions among Lockheed Martin`s government customers.
``Ethentica views this agreement with Lockheed Martin as one of the next critical steps in redefining how governments and businesses manage their information in this
age of heightened digital security and e-commerce,`` said Doug Antone, president and chief executive officer, Ethentica. ``With Lockheed Martin`s industry-leading
position behind us, Ethentica can become the federal government`s premier authentication solution provider.``
Lockheed Martin ranks 52nd among FORTUNE 500 companies and has rated No. 1 for the past six years among all federal contractors in IT. The company
entered the agreement with Ethentica to address the burgeoning authentication needs of its primarily government customers, who require the highest level of security
and reliability.
``Ethentica and Lockheed Martin Information Systems recognize and embrace the potential to become the worldwide leader in biometrics-based trusted solutions
and share the responsibility of developing and executing a global marketing and sales strategy to achieve our shared goals,`` said John Hallal, president, Lockheed
Martin Information Systems. ``We believe our customers will benefit from the integration of Ethentica`s technology, as it complements our offerings and gives
governments and businesses the confidence that their digital assets are safe and e-commerce transactions are secure.``
Through this agreement, Ethentica will help Lockheed Martin`s government customers protect their data by managing digital credentials and authenticating users.
Ethentica`s secure, convenient and cost-effective suite of products and services enable users to conduct trusted transactions securely and seamlessly with employees,
customers, suppliers and other critical business partners.
Ethentica`s breakthrough fingerprint-biometric product line provides cost-effective and reliable identity verification. This technology is available to mobile and desktop
computer users with the Ethenticator(TM) MS 3000 Touch Verification(TM) PC Card and Ethenticator(TM) USB 2500 Touch Verification(TM) Solution. Original
equipment manufacturers and system integrators can incorporate fingerprint-based security into their products with the TactileSense(TM) T-FPM Fingerprint Sensor
Module.
Ethentica`s Ethentication(TM) services offer users cost-effective outsourced authentication solutions. By using Ethentica`s services, governments and businesses can
have immediate access to authentication technologies tailored to meet their ongoing digital security needs, including password, biometrics and digital certificate
management. In addition, they can give their employees, customers and partners the freedom to access their digital credentials conveniently and securely from any
location, using multiple platforms -- such as PCs, notebooks and PDAs -- via the Web.
Ethentica`s managed services relieve companies from managing user digital credentials. Information security is enhanced greatly because Ethentica`s TrustEngine
architecture stores the credentials remotely, rather than on client PCs where they are subject to compromise and misuse. Moreover, users gain much-needed
assurance that those credentials are used in compliance with evolving e-signature laws. Ethentica can ease the deployment and lower the costs of private key
infrastructure (PKI) adoption by managing user`s private keys and delivering digital signature and other cryptographic services through a global network of partners in
an application-service provider (ASP) model.

LMGT Unveils Newest IP Satellite Networking Terminal
The LinkStarTerminal Delivers Affordable Broadband Internet Access
BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 2001--Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications (LMGT) today announced its latest broadband satellite
networking product, the LinkStar(TM) terminal, which complements LMGT`s LINKWAY(TM) product line.
LinkStar is a scalable, high-performance Internet Protocol (IP) terminal that provides broadband satellite forward and return channels. This product allows Global
Service Providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and enterprises to offer broadband Internet access by leveraging the unique advantages of satellite-based
networks in providing point to multi-point transmissions.
LMGT will begin selling LinkStar terminals immediately, with product delivery expected in the third quarter.
``Today`s IP intensive networking environment requires efficient and affordable broadband solutions that can provide connectivity over wide geographic areas that
are underserved by DSL and cable,`` said Dr. Benjamin Pontano, president of LMGT Products. ``LinkStar terminals utilize the inherent global reach of satellite
broadband to provide a consistently high quality level of service by eliminating terrestrial network bottlenecks.``
LinkStar terminals allow users to pass more data through return links than other satellite networking products due to more efficient coding techniques. The product
also offers more effective throughput by using TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) acceleration, bandwidth on demand, and an ``always on`` connection at the
customer premise location.
The product supports applications such as:
-- Internet access
-- Digital media streaming
-- Video conferencing
-- Corporate Intranet and extranets
-- Distance education
-- File transfer
-- Virtual private networks (VPNs)
-- Multicasting
-- Other IP-based services
LinkStar terminals work with Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) size antennas, typically 96 centimeters to 1.8 meters in size, that fit on building rooftops. It
receives a broadband digital video broadcasting (DVB) outbound channel to 60 Mbps and provides a broadband satellite return channel with speeds up to 1.150
Mbps. The hub gateway is a combination of LMGT propriety technology and commercially available DVB compliant equipment.
For further information on LinkStar terminals, please call LMGT at 301/428-4065, or e-mail to labs.info@lmco.com.
