IBM CORPORATION AND THE FANTASTIC CORPORATION JOIN FORCES TO DRIVE BROADBAND MARKET INITIATIVES
IBM UND FANTASTIC LANCIEREN GEMEINSAME INITIATIVE FÜR DEN BREITBANDMARKT
Comprehensive solutions-based sales and marketing programs accelerate acceptance of broadband multimedia
Paris (France), Zug (Switzerland), 14 December 2000 - IBM Corporation and The Fantastic Corporation today announced an initiative to accelerate the adoption of broadband multimedia solutions by content providers and enterprises. The initiative combines IBM`s digital media solutions and services expertise with Fantastic`s broadband delivery solutions to allow enterprises and content providers to create, manage and distribute broadband multimedia.
"The advent of broadband will completely transform the current multimedia landscape," said Val Rahmani, Vice President, Communications Sector, IBM EMEA. "Broadband solutions therefore need to address each step in the aggregation, distribution and consumption of broadband multimedia preparation and delivery. Today`s announcement with Fantastic is a key building block in IBM`s mission to accelerate the adoption of broadband multimedia into the mainstream."
As part of the overall initiative, IBM and Fantastic have signed a reseller agreement to market their combined broadband digital media solutions through their respective sales channels throughout Europe. Telcos and network operators will benefit from a complete solution based on Fantastic`s broadband content distribution platform, the Channel Management CenterTM (CMC), combined with IBM services expertise, hardware and database technology. In addition, Fantastic`s Channel Editorial CenterTM (CEC) gives enterprises and content providers a digital on-ramp to IP-based broadband networks for reliable and efficient delivery of multimedia content. IBM and Fantastic are in the process of porting the Fantastic software platform to IBM technology.
"With The Fantastic Corporation and IBM forming their broadband relationship around these innovative solutions, customers will get the best of both worlds - IBM`s leadership in digital media solutions and services, combined with Fantastic`s leading broadband multimedia software platforms" said Reto Braun, Fantastic`s CEO and Chairman. "Together, IBM and The Fantastic Corporation will help content providers and enterprises enter the world of broadband multimedia and enable the use of multiple network topologies such as satellite, ADSL, cable, digital terrestrial TV, wireless and mobile IP based networks."
IBM and Fantastic intend to bring broadband solutions to business and consumer communities together with leading telco organizations, including existing clients such as Deutsche Telekom, British Telecommunications plc and Telecom Italia who have already licensed and installed the Fantastic technology. Fantastic and IBM`s joint broadband initiatives will focus on three key groups of customers with solutions and services:
Telcos and network operators can bring a whole new class of services and customers to fill their existing and planned broadband infrastructure.
Content Providers can create new business opportunities by enriching their services and products over broadband networks.
Enterprises can deploy and extend over IP-based broadband networks their content (for example, corporate communications and education) with innovative solutions from Fantastic and IBM.
The Fantastic Corporation (Zug, Switzerland) is the leading provider of software solutions for data broadcasting. This is an emerging communications technology which combines point-to-multipoint digital broadcasting with point-to-point Internet connectivity, in order to deliver rich interactive media content to PCs, digital set-top boxes or handheld devices (including 3G mobile phones) over any broadband IP network.
By merging the inherent bandwidth and speed benefits of broadcasting technologies with the interactivity of the Internet, data broadcast provides superior content distribution and interaction in an increasingly IP-centric world. Fantastic`s end-to-end software supports the rapid growth of the "data broadcast" industry.
Fantastic`s global partners and customers include BT plc, Telecom Italia, Deutsche Telekom, Loral Space and Communications, Reuters, Lucent Technologies, Intel, Singapore Press Holdings and Inktomi.
Fantastic is a public company, quoted on the Frankfurt Stock exchange using the symbol: FAN
