      Greece folgenden Eintrag

" a LOI has been signed between partners NOUSS S.A and
      Met@box AG "

Leider keine Angabe was der LOI beinhaltet

Im übrigen wird auf den Israel-Deal verwiesen mit dem Nachsatz
===Contracts with other partners are under negotiation====

      http://www.nous.gr/site2000/projects.htm
      dann klick auf "Research Projects"

NOUS participates in a TENTELECOM project Called IBUT, together with TUD (Technical University of Dresden) and DEUTCHE TELECOM A.G. among others. The project concerns a new service called met@web based on a technical platform that combines Euro-ISDN and newly developed Broadcast on-line TV. The end user needs a set-top box, called Met@box, for his / her TV. The new service will enable economic and innovative applications, while making wide-area spreading possible. When digital TV will be introduced widely to the mass market, a transfer of the application to the new digital market will be easily done.

NOUS` role in this project is to suggest through research interesting and innovative content ideas that can lead to a strong business model. Further, NOUS is the content provider concerning text, images and video (provision and processing) of cultural and tourist content from several Mediterranean countries. NOUS introduced the NETKIDS vortal (www.netkids.gr), a vortal for children, parents and teachers, as a service for this new platform. The IBUT project has been completed and the next action plans are designed at this time period (October 2000).

      Was ist IBUT?

      =====

      IBUT
      ISDN BOT User Trial

Feasibility and commercial validation for the introduction in Europe of a new Broadcast Online TV (BOT) ISDN-based service. A first business application (Tourism Information System) in the field of tourism and culture will be tested addressing high potential markets in the EU. Multi-user and content providers trials will define service acceptance model and extension to other mass market applications.

      Participants

      Deutsche Telekom AG-L BSC (DE)
      Technische Univ. Dresden (DE)
      Bauhaus Univ. Weimar (DE)
      MET@Box AG (DE)
      Red Andaluza Alojam. Rurales (ES)
      Landesfremden Verk. Sachsen (DE)
      Mangos Studios SA (GR)
      Nous SA (GR)
      Prodec Consultores Sl (ES)

      Project Statement

      - Issues being addressed

The project addresses a new flexible service for information collection, management and distribution. This new service will offer the possibility to broadcast information from content providers directly to TV sets in consumer households and will be carried out by SMEs once it is successfully installed. The field of applications, starting from tourism information and cultural presentations up to advertisements and administration announcements will reach the widest possible group of users through simultaneous spreading of contents. Since the transmission is made using already existing TV infrastructures and Euro-ISDN, the service does not require any new broadcast network structure.

      - Goals of the project

Advantage of the project results in low costs for both provider and consumer and characterises one of the unique selling prepositions for the service to be installed. An important feature is the push-principle, avoiding information overflow and expensive search for information. After the feasibility and market validation phase the decision will be made on the overall establishment of the new service.

      Characteristics

      - Target user addressed

New services to be offered by service providers will have two different kinds of customers: the content providers (SMEs or organisations which want to distribute data) and the end users or consumers (individuals, companies or public authorities). However, in a wider sense service providers (SMEs from the IT) benefiting from the service can be regarded as users too. Opposite to the Internet not only the computer community will be served, but like Teletext, every household owning a TV can be reached. So all social groups can be informed on the new application without discrimination. The set-top box receiver uses the familiar TV output device and reaches consumers unwilling or unable to buy a PC but still open-minded about new applications to participate in.

      - Technical perspective

Since a very flexible data transmission backbone for a reasonable price is necessary, supra-regional data transmissions within the IBUT network structure will be performed using Euro-ISDN. Without any requirement for new radio frequencies, Broadcast Online TV" (BOT) will have the possibility to establish digital data broadcasting services using the existing infrastructure with full area coverage.

Technical field trials were performed successfully for terrestrial transmission, in Cable TV networks and via satellite. BOT is a digital add-on technology. The establishment of services on this platform makes sense because existing capacities will be better exploited. Moreover, a transfer of successful services and applications based on BOT to digital platforms (DAB, DVB, etc.) can be easily accomplished.

      - Trans-European coverage and expected benefits

The ISDN BOT user trial will initiate the process of establishing a high number of competing service providers and SME content providers. These SME’s can be physically located especially in economically weak areas where the creation of new employment is highly appreciated.

Since tourism is one of Europe’s relevant sectors, even small market shares will lead to essential money flows. This seems to be very attractive to service providers as well as content providers who want to participate in this circulation.

Important places of cultural interest and the cultural heritage of many nations over Europe might become known even to disabled and elderly people who would have neither the means nor the health to participate in this pan-European social life without the new application.

With this simple access to contributions from all over Europe, the knowledge of European lifestyle and culture will foster understanding between citizens inside the EU.

      Progress and results

      - Expected results

The main output of the project will be a reliable business plan which will serve as the basis for the decision on further investment.

      - Reports to be publicly available on the Web

To be decided by the IBUT Project Consortium.
