Identix``s TouchPrint 2000 Receives FBI Appendix F Certification For Highest Level of Image Quality Specification

      Patented ClearScan Moisture Discriminating Technology
      Sets Identix Apart From Competitors
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Identix Incorporated (Amex: IDX), the worldwide leader in providing user authentication, security and identification solutions, today announced that its TouchPrint(TM) 2000 Live Scan Fingerprint Device has received Appendix F Certification from the FBI. Appendix F Certification is the FBI`s highest level of Image Quality Specification (IQS) for submittal to the national IAFIS infrastructure. According to Identix Chairman & CEO Robert McCashin, Appendix F Certification in combination with Identix`s patented moisture discriminating optics is an affirmation from the FBI that Identix has once again reached a new benchmark in image quality.

Identix`s TouchPrint 2000 Live Scan system is the first fingerprint scanner to employ the Company`s breakthrough ClearScan(TM) moisture- discriminating optical technology. The ClearScan patented imaging design technology eliminates a long-standing limitation in live digital imaging of fingerprints that is caused by the presence of moisture on the surface of the platen or moisture on the surfaces of the subject`s fingerprints. Conventional live scan optics cannot discriminate between moisture and skin surface. This optical limitation results in the inability to consistently and accurately image ridge and pore structure detail, reducing the utility of digital fingerprints for forensic comparison with crime scene latent "lifts." ClearScan optics effectively "ignore" residual moisture, consistently recording the structure of ridge edges and skin pore detail even when the ridges contain moisture.

The TP-2000 also incorporates Identix`s patented smear reduction technology, which enables operators of any skill level to capture clear, high quality rolled fingerprints without concern for precision control of the subjects finger during roll. This unique scanner feature reduces the number of "re-rolls" that must be performed by live scan operators, increasing productivity in tenprint data capture for both civil applicant and criminal booking uses. The resulting fingerprint images exhibit increased sharpness and readability for use by AFIS systems and fingerprint examiners alike.

California Department of Justice Assistant Bureau Chief Louise Knedel commented, "The Department of Justice staff is extremely impressed with the clarity and quality of the TP-2000 scanner images on the device. Particularly impressive is the lack of moisture induced artifacts. We find that the TP-2000 workstation user interface, smaller footprint, appearance, and security features are ideally suited to the booking environment."

"We are pleased to see the rollout of Identix`s new TP-2000 line of Live Scan systems and congratulate Identix on achieving certification to the FBI`s highest level of image quality specification," said NEC Vice President, Tony Doonan. "In conjunction to our partnership with Identix, NEC will incorporate this industry-leading technology into our LS-21 systems so NEC can ensure our customers have the best technology available."

"Appendix F Certification marks an important milestone for our Imaging Division as we take another step forward to help ensure that we maintain our position as the industry leader in the Live Scan market," said Identix Imaging Division Vice President and General Manager Daniel Dellegrotti. "Not only have we achieved the highest recognition from the FBI, but our patented ClearScan moisture discriminating technology clearly sets Identix apart from our competitors in the Live Scan market."

"As we forecast in January," Dellegrotti continued, "initial TP-2000 Live Scan systems were shipped in February. We are seeing strong demand for the TP-2000 and we anticipate additional multi-unit orders over the next several months. This is an exciting new product series for Identix and we believe the TP-2000 will help pave the way for Identix to continue to penetrate new markets and increase our market share in existing markets."

The Identix TouchPrint 2000 continues the Company`s tradition of exceeding the ANSI resolution standard by providing in excess of 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi) image resolution for both rolled and four finger "slap" fingerprints -- 44 percent higher resolution than the 500 x 500 dpi minimum standard employed by conventional live scan systems. Identix has more installations than any other company supplying Live Scan equipment, with numerous statewide contracts and deployment in more than 30 states.
