Red Hat habe die Ergebnisse für das 4. Quartal des Finanzjahres 2001 mit einem Umsatz von $27 Mio. und einem operativen Verlust pro Aktie von $0,00 präsentiert. Die Analysten hätten einen Umsatz von $27,9 Mio. erwartet, der nun um 3% verfehlt worden sei. Der Verlust pro Aktie habe aber im Rahmen der Erwartungen gelegen. Red Hat habe im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum ein Umsatzwachstum von 144% und um Vergleich zum Quartal zuvor ein Wachstum von 106% erreicht.
Während die finanzielle Performance im letzten Quartal durch eine Akquisition erreicht worden sei, wolle man im Finanzjahr 2002 organisch wachsen und so einen Gewinn pro Aktie von $0,10 im Finanzjahr 2002 erwirtschaften. Dies sei mehr als das doppelte der Konsensschätzungen von $0,04. Die Analysten hätten ihre Schätzungen für 2002 angepasst. Man erwarte einen geringeren Umsatz von nun $139,2 Mio. und einen höheren Gewinn pro Aktie von nun $0,08. Trotz der schwierigen wirtschaftlichen Lage gehe das Management davon aus, dass die Nachfrage nach Linux weiterhin stark bleibe. Für das Finanzjahr 2003 erwarten die Analysten bei einem Umsatz von $186,3 Mio. einen Gewinn pro Aktie von $0,16.
