NetZero Announces Distribution Agreement with IBM; NetZero Platinum Pay Internet Service Chosen for IBM`s Affinity Programs

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Apr 5, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NetZero, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NZRO), a leading provider of free and pay Internet access services with
over 8.4 million registered users, announced today that it has signed a two-year
agreement to become a provider of dial access Internet services for IBM`s
      Affinity programs.

As part of the relationship between the two companies, NetZero Platinum,
NetZero`s new bannerless pay service, will become one of the primary choices
when Affinity partners require prepaid Internet service.

"It`s thrilling to create an alliance with the number one computer manufacturer
in the nation," remarked Mark R. Goldston, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
NetZero. "We see the formation of this partnership not only as an excellent way
of extending NetZero`s reach, but also an incredible opportunity to work with a
truly global, high-profile partner. IBM`s choice to bundle NetZero Platinum, our
pay service, with their computers is a testament to our first-rate, high-quality
      Internet service."

"NetZero`s Internet service will enhance our Affinity program offerings," said
Rene Lorenz, Director of Partner Sales, IBM Direct. "Teaming up with NetZero

NetZero Announces Wireless Advertising Initiative Utilizing QUALCOMM BREW Platform Technology

      Mar 29,2001
"Since NetZero was founded, it has developed innovative technologies that have
helped marketers and advertisers more effectively reach online consumers," said
Mark R. Goldston, NetZero chairman and chief executive officer.

"The development of HardCell marks the first time the company will have the
opportunity to extend its targeting technology to mobile devices, which we
believe is a key growth market. We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity
to join with a technology leader such as QUALCOMM in developing this initiative
for the BREW platform," said Goldston.

Once launched, HardCell will give application and service providers the ability
to reach customers while they are searching for entertainment and sports events,
checking news headlines and weather forecasts, checking stocks or playing games.
Advertisers will be able to include color images, text and animation formats
based on the graphics capability of each wireless device creating a richer
      advertising experience.

Keeping in line with the mobility aspect of wireless, advertisers will also be
able to serve regional specific targeted ads even as the user travels out of his
or her local area. For example, if a Los Angeles customer is traveling in Las
Vegas, the ads they receive may be localized to the Las Vegas area while they
      are there.

The BREW platform allows developers to create applications that operate on
BREW-enabled handsets with QUALCOMM CDMA integrated circuits, the current
      standard in the wireless market.

Free ISPs: A Thing of the Past
      Mar 28, 2001, 02:33 PM ET
      By Shobha Ramswamy

.....This does signal the end of the free ISP model in the traditional sense. Right now, the business is confined to just casual Internet users. According to Charles Ardai, Juno`s president and chief executive, “We are probably entering the stage in the evolution of the Internet when it goes from being basically free to being something where a component is free, but it is basically paid for.”

Towing the line, NetZero has also limited the number of free online hours to 40 per month. This alone saves the company nearly $50 million to $60 million per year in telephone fees. Subscribers who choose to be online for more than 40 hours, will have to pay $9.95 to receive unlimited usage.

By January 2001, it managed to convert 30,000 free users into paying customers. NetZero has about 8.4 million registered users.

Commenting on the move, Charles S. Hilliard, NetZero chief financial officer said, "In light of the challenging advertising environment, we have acted quickly to develop innovative ways to generate revenues while minimizing costs. We will continue to introduce attractive, fee–based revenue programs that would enable NetZero to continue to grow its user base while helping us achieve our ultimate goal of profitability.".......

es wird schon.-kriegskasse ist gefüllt ,burnrate wird weiter gesenkt und einnahmen erhöht.
