Informatica Demonstrates Massive Scalability, Powerful Performance of Its Data Integration Platform on HP Servers

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), the leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced it has conclusively demonstrated the top-flight performance of the recently released Informatica PowerCenter 5 data integration and analytics platform running on Hewlett-Packard Company`s HP 9000 Superdome enterprise server. The results, which were based on a third-party decision-support benchmark, prove that the Informatica PowerCenter 5 platform running on the HP Superdome server enables customers to implement high-performance, easy-to-maintain analytic solutions that provide business insight in a very short timeframe.

Based on real-world scenarios, the benchmarks showed massive scalability of the Informatica solution on HP servers. For example, three complex data mappings representing typical business scenarios executed in parallel against more than 875 million database rows took just over 29 minutes to complete.

"One of the salient points of the benchmark is that we were able to implement a representative analytic solution in a matter of days, with no laborious special coding," said Girish Pancha, senior vice president and general manager, platform technologies at Informatica. "Sample mappings involved real-world business scenarios as we searched for business insight in datasets of various sizes. Taking advantage of the parallelism within Informatica PowerCenter 5, performance results were exemplary across the board, with the performance of both the Informatica platform and the HP Superdome server actually outstripping the physical limitations of the test-bed`s fiber channel connectors."

"This benchmark test clearly illustrated that the latest version of the Informatica platform is an excellent match for the HP Superdome server within analytic environments characterized by terabytes of data," said Mark Hudson, worldwide marketing manager for HP`s Business Systems and Technology Organization. "This pairing delivered not only superb performance and incredible linear scalability, but also reinforced the powerful time-to-market, ease-of-use and ease-of-maintenance benefits that PowerCenter 5 and HP Superdome customers can achieve." Benchmark Test Results

Standard test mappings were launched against the test system, an HP 9000 Superdome server configured with 64 PA-8600 processors and an out-of-the-box implementation of the Informatica PowerCenter 5 platform.

Tests included running mappings in parallel against sets of data that ranged from 1GB to 100GB, using 16, 32 and the full 64 processors. The results demonstrated linear scalability in throughput as the number of processors was increased. As data volumes were increased, the processing time was kept almost constant by increasing the number of processors.

Data was hosted on Oracle8i Enterprise Edition database software with the data stored on disk arrays connected to the server via fiber channel connectors. Data was partitioned at the table level and session load level.

Easier Access to Legacy Data for Use in New Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Evoke Software and Informatica Corp. The two companies will integrate technologies and pursue sales and marketing opportunities in the coming months. Evoke is the leading vendor of data profiling and analysis software, which lets companies understand the true quality, structure and content of the data stored in their multiple databases. hi leute,

Informatica Implementation at eBay Wins `Best Practices in Data Warehousing` Award

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), the leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced that eBay`s (Nasdaq: EBAY) successful implementation of Informatica PowerCenter data integration software has received the prestigious "Best Practices in Data Warehousing" award from The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI). eBay`s award-winning implementation of Informatica PowerCenter has helped the company better understand market dynamics between buyers and sellers, improve customer relationships and increase bottom-line revenue. eBay was honored by TDWI in the E-Intelligence & Clickstream Data Warehouse category.

Nominations were judged by a panel of experts, including practitioners, consultants, industry analysts, journalists, Journal of Data Warehousing editors, TDWI Fellows and TDWI management. The winners were selected by demonstrating that their data warehouse and business intelligence projects were truly innovative solutions to problems commonly faced by data warehousing practitioners and were practices that could be followed by others.

According to TDWI, eBay`s implementation won by clearly demonstrating: (1) impact and value to end users, (2) best practices other companies can adopt, (3) innovative strategies, technologies, architectures or processes used to design its analytic environment and (4) the close alignment between business and IT processes.

"The competition for the Best Practices Awards was exceptionally strong this year," said Ellen Hobbs, general manager of TDWI. "As always, the quality of the applications was first rate, but several nominations distinguished themselves as true best practices that others can learn from and utilize in their own data warehousing and business intelligence implementations." "TDWI`s recognition of an Informatica customer for the fifth consecutive year demonstrates our ability to deliver powerful, innovative analytic solutions to today`s leading companies," said Diaz Nesamoney, president and COO of Informatica. "We`re proud that our solutions help customers and partners achieve high levels of business success, and congratulate eBay on its well-deserved win."

eBay and other Best Practices award winners will present their winning nominations at TDWI`s World Conference -- Summer 2001 in Anaheim, California on August 12-17, 2001.

Informatica Unveils Strategy, Product to Lead Growing Web Analytics Market

Second Generation Web Analytics Application Answers Questions About
Relationships Between Customer Purchases, Payments, Inventory and Supply
      Chain Issues

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), a leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced its intention to advance the promise of Web analytics software with the introduction of Informatica eSite 4.1, a second-generation web analytics application. Informatica eSite goes beyond simple clickstream reporting by allowing companies to analyze eBusiness data in conjunction with other enterprise data about customers, sales, suppliers and products to achieve a consistent and more accurate 360-degree view of the entire business. It is available immediately as a standalone product and offers a full upgrade path to more complex CRM analytics available within the Informatica Applications family of cross value chain analytic products.

First-generation Web analytic applications are limited to analyzing clickstream within a vacuum for the sole purpose of improving Web efficiencies. By contrast, Informatica eSite uniquely assists companies in gaining greater business insight and maximizing ROI across the enterprise value chain. This is achieved by integrating key Web channel data into the more complex analytic environment that drives the entire enterprise. Providing this complete view of the business is one promise behind IDC`s recent forecast that Web analytics will grow to become a nearly $800 million market by 2004*.

"We believe Informatica eSite is the first in a second generation of Web analytic applications and advances the promise of this category of software with powerful functionality and easy integration path to enterprise-wide analytics," said Diaz Nesamoney, president and COO of Informatica. "Informatica eSite is one of the most robust products on the market for companies looking to improve their eCommerce and eBusiness initiatives."

The growth in eCommerce has created demand for a fresh approach to the task of analyzing the massive amount of data that can be collected about online customers and their buying patterns. Increasingly, companies need to interpret this data in the broader context of business operations, including finance, human resources and other non-customer-facing functions. Informatica eSite takes this next step, allowing companies to integrate clickstream data with key data from across the enterprise, including CRM, ERP and supply chain management systems. This helps companies answer deeper questions involving all their business channels and explore relationships between customer purchases, payments, inventory and supply chain issues to understand key metrics, such as how supplier disruptions may impact the ability to keep up with Web customer demand.

"Informatica eSite is a clear example of how Informatica Applications integrate, analyze and personalize key business information to provide a complete, comprehensive view of the Web customer, as well as a clear picture of that customer`s interaction throughout the company`s operations," said Marv Mouchawar, senior vice president and general manager, Informatica Applications. "Informatica eSite is the only Web analytics software to provide a comprehensive view of the Web channel and combine it with offline data for improved business insight and decision-making."

Informatica eSite is available as a standalone application or as a module of Informatica eCRM, which is designed to help companies manage customer acquisition, intimacy and retention. Informatica eSite is built upon the company`s industry-leading data integration platform, Informatica PowerCenter, which allows for seamless integration of data sources from across the enterprise into an analytic application. The full Informatica Applications family -- including Informatica eCRM, Informatica eSite, Informatica eBusiness Operations, Informatica eProcurement and Informatica eMarketplace -- delivers the most comprehensive analytic solution for gaining actionable insight across the eBusiness value chain, helping businesses evaluate customer, partner, employee and supplier relationships and act upon the results for optimal business performance.

Informatica eSite 4.1 is available immediately. U.S. pricing is based on the size and scope of the installation and begins at $170,000.

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), in conjunction with Informatica (Nasdaq: INFA), today announced a designed, tested and tuned integratable data warehousing solution, known as the iForce(SM) Data Warehousing Reference Architecture. This Reference Architecture is aimed at helping enterprises design and develop data integration environments with reduced complexity and risk. The data integration and data warehouse phase of Sun`s Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence Reference Architecture solution is part of Sun`s iForce(SM) program. This designed, documented, pre-tested and tuned architecture helps provide enterprises with a quick and easy deployment path for building analytic infrastructures. The Reference Architecture is scheduled to be available in Sun`s iForce(SM) Ready Centers worldwide.

Reference Architectures are designed to provide flexibility while protecting customer investment. They help simplify the customer decision-making process about their IT infrastructure by allowing customers to make informed architectural decisions and providing enterprises with a quick and easy deployment path to help reduce risk and complexity in implementation. These solutions leverage existing IT architectures while allowing for customization to help meet a company`s unique needs. The iForce Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence Reference Architecture is designed to provide companies with a blueprint for implementing an enterprise-based solution for collecting, integrating, managing, analyzing and delivering data.

Reference Architectures meet today`s performance and workload needs and are designed to provide transition to heavier load in the future as a given service or capability succeeds. Building an infrastructure for warehousing data can take several months to more than a year. With Reference Architectures, enterprises are able to dramatically reduce this time by leveraging the extensive design, testing and integration work conducted by the companies and shared with customers via Scalability and Implementation Guides. These guides characterize what goes into each Reference Architecture to minimize customers` risk and complexity in architectural deployment, including load configurations, testing and sizing.

"With the proliferation of information brought about by the Net Effect -- or the opportunities created with the exponential increase in Internet availability and bandwidth -- it has become a business imperative that companies harness the massive quantities of disparate data to provide information that helps make better-informed decisions in real time," said Shahin Khan, vice president of marketing for Computer Systems at Sun Microsystems, Inc.

To help enterprises meet this need, Sun teamed with the industry-leading data integration solution provider Informatica to develop the first phase of its Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence Reference Architecture. The combination of Sun`s industry-leading Solaris(TM) Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and UltraSPARC(TM) technology with Informatica PowerCenter data integration software will allow enterprise customers to build data warehouses that leverage the best of both technologies. Informatica provides integration among eBusiness and enterprise data sources, including ERP, CRM, procurement, XML, mainframe and legacy systems. The Informatica data integration platform also delivers high performance and scalability to meet the data integration needs of the most demanding enterprises.

For example, Dennis Dantona, director of enterprise application services at Autodesk, appreciates the "rich analytic architecture" offered by Sun`s industry-leading server technology coupled with Informatica`s best-of-breed data integration platform.

"Informatica addresses the challenges of integrating data from disparate sources, while Sun has provided high-speed and reliable access to our data," he says. "Both technologies have lived up to our expectations, in terms of data integration, scalability and real-time computing."

"As the leading eBusiness analytic solutions provider, we understand the risk and complexity involved in developing a viable IT infrastructure for gaining business insight," said Girish Pancha, senior vice president and general manager of platform technologies with Informatica Corporation. "Partnering with Sun to develop the iForce Reference Architecture has allowed us to seamlessly integrate our technology with Sun`s to develop a superior architecture that will support existing and potential customers."

This Reference Architecture`s documented architecture is based on a framework of the Solaris OE, Sun Enterprise(TM) servers, Sun StorEdge(TM) T3 arrays and Informatica PowerCenter. Sizing and Implementation Guides will be available to customers through traditional Sun and Informatica sales channels.

Customers can get a demonstration of the Reference Architectures and build a proof-of-concept around their unique environment in Sun`s iForce Ready Center in Menlo Park, Calif. Sun expects to make this Reference Architecture available at its international iForce Ready Centers within the next year.

Sun`s iForce Reference Architectures are the result of the dynamic relationships within the iForce(TM) community. Sun`s iForce program brings together under one umbrella Sun systems, software, services and best-of-breed iForce partners to create and deliver customer-driven solutions that help enable large and small customers to leverage the network to improve business processes such as decision support systems, supply chain management, product design and development, email and communications.

Also available today are Reference Architectures to build ISP Messaging and Enterprise Wireless Content Delivery solutions. About Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Since its inception in 1982, a singular vision -- "The Network Is The Computer(TM)" -- has propelled Sun Microsystems, Inc., to its position as a leading provider of industrial-strength hardware, software and services that power the Internet and allow companies worldwide to take their businesses to the nth. hi leute,

Informatica Extends Solution With New Mainframe and AS/400 Integration Products

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), the leading provider of eBusiness analytic solutions, today announced the immediate availability of two new Informatica products: Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and Informatica PowerConnect for AS/400. The products offer ready access to mainframe and mid-range computer data, providing a complete view of the enterprise via the Informatica data integration platform. Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and PowerConnect for AS/400 represent an important extension of the company`s portfolio, enhancing the Informatica PowerCenter data integration platform with scalable, high-performance, and easy-to-implement solutions for direct, native access to business data stored in mainframe and AS/400 systems.

The proportion of corporate data that resides in the mainframe environment is up to 70 percent, according to industry sources. Leveraging this mission-critical but often isolated information in data integration and analytic applications typically involves the development of cumbersome, high-maintenance COBOL data integration programs coupled with extensive test procedures.

By contrast, Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and Informatica PowerConnect for AS/400 enable customers to source data and metadata directly from most major mainframe data sources (including DB2, IMS, VSAM, ADABAS, and sequential flat files) and AS/400 environments, respectively. This native access translates into reduced system complexity and higher performance. The ability to access and integrate data from multiple database platforms through a single gateway also results in significant cost and time savings. Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and Informatica PowerConnect for AS/400 can be installed in hours and integrated in days, with no change to existing application code. Once transformation logic has been applied via Informatica PowerCenter, the data can be readily integrated with data from other sources for comprehensive business analytics.

"With Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and Informatica PowerConnect for AS/400, we have extended our comprehensive integration capabilities," said Girish Pancha, senior vice president and general manager of Informatica platform technologies. "Informatica can integrate data from anywhere in the enterprise, enabling our customers to leverage business insight for competitive advantage. We are pleased to have partnered with Striva Corporation to deliver this powerful addition to the Informatica data integration platform for accessing critical mainframe and AS/400 data."

"Informatica is a premier data integration platform, and Striva is the leader in access to legacy data environments," said Paul Bach, president of Striva Corporation. "The combined power of both companies` technologies will allow customers to integrate and analyze mission-critical legacy data in minutes versus the days or weeks it would typically take to gain access to data using traditional methods."

Informatica PowerConnect for Mainframe and Informatica PowerConnect for AS/400 incorporate technology from Striva Corporation. The companies have worked together to integrate Striva products with the Informatica data integration platform. Under the terms of the strategic relationship, the two companies will work together to continue to extend the newly announced mainframe and AS/400 data access and integration products.

Striva Corporation is an industry leader in the fields of B2B infrastructure, enabling heterogeneous connectivity and database integration. With headquarters in Silicon Valley and London, Striva was founded in 1998 and develops software to solve complex database integration problems for some of the world`s leading software and hardware vendors. Striva`s flagship technology is the first infrastructure solution to combine very high performance native legacy access with an easy to use and implement agent technology, thus enabling large companies to invest in new technology while maintaining the viability of their existing database infrastructure. The company`s list of leading customers includes AAA, Alcatel, Chase Manhattan Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Nortel Networks, WestLB and Xerox Corporation.
