Pre-Market: Cisco Leads Surge in Tech Issues

Boston, May 02, 2001 (Midnight Trader via COMTEX) -- Traders maintained a
steady drumbeat of buying in pre-market trade today as positive comments from
Morgan Stanley on Cisco Systems led large cap tech issues higher, and quarterly
results from Priceline.com sparked buying in the Internet sector.

On Island, Cisco Systems (CSCO) was up 1.51, or 8.5 percent, to 19.31. Oracle
(ORCL) was adding 5 percent, and Sun Microsystems (SUNW) 3.5 percent. On
Instinet, Microsoft (MSFT) was gaining 1 percent, and Intel (INTC) was tacking
      on 2.3 percent.

Strength in Cisco was also pushing the networking/telecom supply sector higher.
JDS Uniphase (JDSU) and Nortel Networks (NT) were up 5 and 10 percent
respectively. Juniper Networks (JNPR) and Ciena Corp. (CIEN) were each ramping
      up 4 percent.

In earnings news, Priceline.com (PCLN) was trading up 0.85, or 13 percent, to
7.44 on REDIBook after it reported a lighter-than-expected Q1 loss of $0.03 per
share, and said it expects to report a profit in Q2. The loss was 12 cents
better than the loss in Q4 2000 and beat the First Call consensus by two cents.
Q1 revenue was $269.7 million, an 18 percent increase over Q4 2000. Priceline
also re-affirmed earlier guidance that it expects Q2 revenue to increase 10 to
15 percent over Q1, and it expects to report a pro forma operating profit in Q2.

Priceline`s report sent shares of Internet holding companies Internet Capital
Group (ICGE) and CMGI (CMGI) up more than 15 percent each. Also higher on Island
were shares of InfoSpace (INSP), WebVan (WBVN) and Internet consultancy
      Razorfish (RAZF).

Adding to the Internet upside were better-than-expected quarterly numbers from
Register.com (RCOM). Register was climbing 0.92, or 12 percent, to 8.50 on after
reporting a Q1 profit and beating Street estimates. The company posted a gain of
$0.04 per share, compared to a loss of $0.04 per share in the same quarter last
year and analyst expectations of a gain of $0.01 per share. Revenue was $30.7
million, a 148 percent increase over the $12.4 million recorded last year.

CNET Networks (CNET) was leading a slim downside today, dropping 1.62, or 12.5
percent, to 11.11 on Instinet. The online media company reported a
wider-than-expected Q1 loss. The EPS loss was $0.13 per share, compared with the
loss of $0.10 per share expected by analysts, and a gain of $0.02 per share
recorded last year. Revenue was $75.2 million, versus $92.8 million in the same
      period last year.

Elsewhere in earnings, Cigna Corp. (CI) reported this morning that its Q1 EPS
rose compared to last year, and its quarterly results were in line with analysts
estimates. The company posted a gain of $1.76 per share, compared with $1.60 per
share in Q1 last year. Revenue was $4.73 billion, down from $4.9 billion in the
year-ago quarter. The stock was declining 6.70, or 6 percent, to 102 on
      Instinet.

S1 Corp. (SONE) reported a Q1 EPS loss of $0.16 per share Monday night, beating
the First Call consensus of a loss of $0.25 per share. This compares to a loss
of $0.35 per share in Q1 last year. Revenue was $63.1 million, a 25 percent
increase over the $50.4 million reported in Q1 last year. Analysts were
expecting revenue of $61.9 million. Looking forward, S1 expects Q2 revenue
between $62 and $65 million, less than analyst estimates of $66.4 million. SONE
was gaining 1.88, or 26.5 percent, to 8.95 on REDIBook.

KPMG Consulting (KCIN) was rising about 10 percent on REDIBook after reporting
Q3 EPS of $0.34 per share, blowing past Street estimates of $0.25 per share and
well ahead of the $0.07 per share recorded in the prior quarter. Q3 revenue was
$751 million, a 19 percent increase over Q3 last year and up 7 percent over the
      previous quarter.

Alpha Industries (AHAA) was down about 1 percent on Instinet after reporting a
sharp decline in its Q4 results. Q4 revenue was $54 million, down 7 percent from
Q4 last year and off 31 percent sequentially. EPS was $0.08 per share, three
cents better than the First Call consensus, but below the $0.11 per share
reported in Q4 a year ago. Alpha also lowered its Q1 outlook, noting that it now
expects revenue between $32 and $35 million and an EPS loss between $0.08 and
$0.10 per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $51 million and a gain of
      $0.05 per share.

DSL.net (DSLN) was off 0.18, or 11.5 percent, to 1.36 on REDIBook after
reporting a Q1 loss of $0.42 per share, missing the First Call consensus by a
penny. The results compare with a loss of $0.47 per share in Q4 2000 and a loss
of $0.33 per share in Q1 last year. Q1 revenue was $8.8 million, a 24 percent
      increase over Q4 2000, and a six-fold increase over Q1 last year.

Loudcloud (LDCL) continued its downward slope this morning, losing 0.23 to 6.20
on Instinet. The company announced a restructuring initiative Monday night that
includes the reduction of 19 percent of the company`s workforce, or 122
      employees.

Regeneration Technologies (RTIX) was trading down 1.84, or 12.4 percent, to
12.99 on REDIBook after reporting an increase in Q1 results but missing Street
estimates. Revenue was $37.6 million, up 44 percent from Q1 last year. EPS
increased 67 percent from Q1 last year to $0.05 per share, but missed the First
      Call consensus by a penny.
