Rambus Loses Patent-Infringement Suit, Sending Shares Tumbling 22%
Rambus (RMBS:Nasdaq - news) announced a U.S. District Court ruled against the memory chipmaker in a patent-infringement suit it brought against chipmaker Infineon (IFX:Nasdaq - news).
The news sent the stock tumbling 24% to $13.88 after a halt on trading was lifted. Infineon climbed 5.9%.
Rambus said that it plans to appeal the ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, which dismissed three claims of patent-infringement against Infineon.
"We are disappointed with the Court`s decision and plan to appeal the ruling," said Geoff Tate, CEO of Rambus. "If today`s decision is allowed to stand, all companies that innovate risk having their intellectual property rights unjustly expropriated."
