POPLAR RESOURCES LTD. ("PPX-V") - Progress Report: Bottenbacken Project
Sweden
W. Gennen McDowall, President of Poplar Resources Ltd., the "Company"
reports:
The Bottenbacken Project is a polymetallic exploration project with palladium,
copper and gold credits, located within the Storsjo Precambrian window in central
Sweden. It is 100% owned and operated by North Star Diamonds AS. (North Star
Diamonds is Poplar Resources` 65%-owned subsidiary. A Letter of Intent has
been signed that would see Poplar Resources acquire 100% of North Star
Diamonds.) The Bottenbacken license area has recently been increased and now
covers approximately 7000 hectares.
Preliminary results of a gravity survey at Bottenbacken have revealed a gravity
high of some 6 milligals coincident with a distinct magnetic anomaly located in
the central portion of the license area. Potential field (gravity and magnetic)
modeling of the data over this anomaly indicate the existence of a large,
flat-lying, dense, magnetic body. The results of this modeling have indicated that
further gravity and magnetic work is warranted.
With the above in mind, a contract has been signed with the geophysical
department of the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) to carry out a detailed
helicopter geophysical survey over the Storsjo Precambrian window.
Approximately 1500 line kms of data will be acquired. This data will consist of
magnetics, radiometrics and VLF. This helicopter survey will commence on June
18, 2001, and will identify and delineate other "magnetic" bodies known to exist
in the license area. The airborne survey will also assist with the overall structural
interpretation of the Bottenbacken Project. A further 300 gravity readings will also
be acquired. This Phase Two gravity survey has already commenced and should
be completed in approximately two weeks.
Existing mineralization at Bottenbacken consists mainly of disseminated
sulphides (chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocite with rare pyrite). This type of
mineralization makes an excellent Induced Polarization (IP) target. It was,
therefore, decided that an IP survey would also be carried out. This IP survey has
already commenced and is progressing well. To date, some 25 kms of data have
been acquired. The IP Survey is being carried out by Scott Geophysics of
Vancouver, Canada. A pole-dipole array is being used with an "a" spacing of 50
meters and n = 1 to 5. Processing of the data is carried out on a daily basis and
preliminary pseudosections are being supplied at the end of each day`s work.
IP results to date show an excellent correlation with the gravity and magnetic
data. It would, therefore, appear that the dense, magnetic body outlined by the
gravity and magnetic data also has a distinct chargeability anomaly associated
with it. An initial IP line separation of 500 meters has been used. Once the lateral
extent of the IP anomaly has been determined this line separation will be reduced
to 125 meters and the "anomalous" area will be "in-filled". This "detailed" IP data
will assist in the delineation of the causative body and in the location of suitable
drill hole sites. Drilling on the project is planned for August/September this year.

Sweden
W. Gennen McDowall, President of Poplar Resources Ltd., reports:

copper and gold credits located within the Storsjo Precambrian window in central
Sweden. It is 100% owned and operated by North Star Diamonds AS. (North Star
Diamonds is Poplar Resources 65%-owned subsidiary. A Letter of Intent has
been signed that would see Poplar Resources acquire 100% of North Star
Diamonds). The Bottenbacken license area covers approximately 7000 hectares.
As a result of the field work described below it has been decided to increase the
size of the current license area.
All geophysical fieldwork on the project has been completed. The Geological
Survey of Norway (NGU) has completed the airborne geophysical survey. Some
1600 line kms of airborne data were acquired. Scott Geophysics (Vancouver,
Canada) has completed the induced polarization (IP) survey. A total of 97.9
kilometers of IP were acquired in 38 continuous days. Geovista (Sweden) has
completed the gravity survey, a total of 360 gravity points were acquired.
A preliminary interpretation of the airborne data supplied to Poplar by the NGU
has identified a number of anomalous areas. Some of these areas are outside of
the existing license. As a result of this a number of new license applications have
been made.
The IP data collected at Bottenbacken has revealed a number of distinct and
continuous chargeability anomalies. There appears to be two separate
"anomalous-zones", the northern magnetic zone (Storuggen) and the southern
non-magnetic zone (Scapa). Distance between these zones is approximately 2
kms. Both zones have a rough NW-SE strike. These anomalous zones have
strike lengths in the order of 2 - 3 kms and appear to be approximately four to five
hundred meters wide. The depth to the top of these zones is in the order of 25-50
meters. At this stage the thickness of the units is difficult to estimate, however
the IP data is currently being inverted using an inversion technique provided by
Scott Geophysics, this is called "image2DTM ". This process is effectively an
inverse imaging technique or "retroprojection" process. The process does not
require a starting model and is not a filter. The method produces true-depth
chargeability and resistivity cross-sections.
In a very broad sense, the IP phenomena effectively measures the chargeability
of a rock unit. Chargeability is directly related to the sulphide (copper, iron etc.)
content of the rock. Background chargeability values at Bottenbacken are in the
3 to 4 mV/V (chargeability units, sometimes called IP percent or milliseconds)
range.
Large (1 to 2 cubic meters) mineralized boulders interpreted to be of local origin
have been identified in the Storuggen area. Samples from these boulders have
been collected and are currently being assayed by Acme Laboratories
(Vancouver, Canada); results are expected within five days. The IP data from the
Storuggen area indicates chargeability values of around 25 to 32 mV/V. The
apparent resistivity data ranges from 10,000 to 25,000 ohm-meters.
Mapping over the Scapa anomaly, has identified a large number of breccia
boulders; these boulders are clustered down ice of the main IP anomaly. The
matrix of these boulders consists of hematite with trace chalcopyrite. The
boulders are non magnetic. The IP data over Scapa indicates a cigar shaped
body dipping to the southeast. Chargeability values range from 20 to 30 mV/V.
This anomalous zone has a resistivity low associated with it, values range from
2000 to 5000 ohm-meters. New airborne magnetic data over the anomaly
indicates a magnetic low. The previous ground electromagnetic survey (Slingram)
carried out at Bottenbacken by the Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) identified a
number of anomalies. One of these EM anomalies corresponds to the Scapa IP
anomaly.
Final gravity results (terrain corrected) have not yet been received. Once this data
has been received, modelling over the area will be carried out.
Quotations for drilling have been requested from a number of local drilling
contractors. It is expected that drilling at Bottenbacken will commence in
August. Approximately 2000 to 3000 meters of drilling has been budgeted for the
project.

POPLAR RESOURCES LTD. ("PPX-V") - Bottenbacken Sample Results
W. Gennen McDowall reports:
The Bottenbacken project is a polymetallic exploration project with palladium,
copper and gold credits located within the Storsjo Precambrian window in central
Sweden. It is 100 per cent owned and operated by North Star Diamonds AS.
(North Star Diamonds is Poplar Resources 65-per-cent owned subsidiary. A letter
of intent has been signed that would see Poplar Resources acquire 100 per cent
of North Star Diamonds).
Large (one to two cubic meters) mineralized (metavolcanic) boulders were
identified in the northern area (Storuggen). Samples of these boulders were
collected and sent to Acme Analytical Labs Ltd (Vancouver, Canada) for
analysis. These samples have been assayed and the results obtained are given
in Table 1.
TABLE 1
Recent analytical results
for selected samples taken from the Storuggen Area
Sample No Cu % Pd g/t Au g/t Pt g/t
10 2.50 2.740 1.243 0.016
13 1.90 0.450 0.546 <0.010
19 4.10 2.291 1.985 0.012
20 4.30 4.595 0.680 <0.010
Three of these samples (13,19 and 20) were located within fifty (50) meters of
borehole B 86005. This inclined hole was drilled to a depth of 121 meters by the
Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) in 1986. The hole intersected weak copper
mineralization from 14 to 88 meters within a metavolcanic host. Assayed values
(SGU) ranged from 0.07 % to 0.35 % copper, with an average value of 0.16 %.
The location of this hole has been confirmed by Poplar and it appears to have
been drilled on the very western edge of the recently discovered Storuggen
induced polarization (IP) anomaly. IP Line 1359250E runs directly over this
borehole. An IP anomaly at this borehole location was observed and was
classified by Poplar as weak to medium (chargeability - 10 to 12 mV/V) with a
limited depth extent in comparison to the very strong (chargeability - 25 to 32
mV/V) IP anomalies located to the northeast of this borehole. Continuity between
these anomalies can be seen on the IP data.
The Storuggen IP results indicate an anomalous zone with an east-west strike
length of approximately 2 kilometers and a width of some 400 meters. The depth
to the top of the anomalous zones appears to be in the order of 25 to 50 meters.
A second "anomalous zone," Scapa, is located two kilometers south east of
Storuggen. The Scapa anomaly has a northwest to southeast strike and the IP
data indicates that the anomaly can be traced over a distance of approximately
three kilometers. The zone has a width of around 500 meters.
Drilling at Bottenbacken is scheduled for August at which time both "anomalous
zones" (Storuggen and Scapa) will be drilled. Approximately 2000 to 3000 meters
of drilling has been budgeted for the project. TEL: (604) 718-5454 William Gennen

this week, with charts, maps, photographs and other information
regarding the Bottenbacken project.
"Bottenbacken project"
Wenn bottenbacken das bedeutet, was ich denke, würde ich dort nicht bohren ...
Bottenbacken oder andere Backen, der erste Bohrkern wird zur Analyse geschickt.
POPLAR RESOURCES LTD (PPX-V") - First Drill Hole Completed On
Bottenbacken Polymetallic - Project
W. Gennen McDowall, President of Poplar Resources Ltd. (the "Company")
wishes to announce the completion of the first drill hole at the Company`s 100%
owned Bottenbacken polymetallic project, which has palladium, copper, and gold
credits.
Drill hole BB-1 is the first of a 20-hole drill programme. The hole was drilled on
the Bell Zone, one of four main exploration targets within the project area. An
additional two holes are planned for drilling on the Bell Zone. BB-l was drilled to a
depth of 248.55 meters. It was drilled at an angle of 50 degrees towards the
northwest to test an IP and magnetic anomaly. Besides the geophysical
anomalies, a mineralized outcrop was discovered 20 meters from this hole.
Mineralized boulders previously assayed (see news release dated July 16, 2001)
also lie approximately 250 meters southwest from this drill hole.
Preliminary drill-core logging of the complete length of the core at BB-1 shows
that the main rock type is a medium grained, dark to grayish, porphyroblastic,
basaltic "metavolcanic" rock. Abundant quartz and epidote veins are noted along
the drill-core. A number of diabase dykes cut the drill-core. Sulphide
mineralization has been noted throughout the hole, with chalcopyrite, bornite and
pyrite being identified. Drilling was stopped while still in "metavolcanic" rock.
Splitting of the core at BB-1 is currently underway and will be sent for assaying
shortly. Assay results on BB-1 will be released upon completion of the analysis.
Drilling on the second hole, BB-2, at the Bell Zone commenced yesterday.
