AMD Second Quarter Results Missed Targets
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD - news) reported on Thursday fiscal second-quarter sales and profit which missed Wall Street estimates.

Sales fell 17 percent from the first quarter, compared to the firm`s previous forecast of a 10 percent drop, it said.

AMD estimated that second-quarter net income would be 3 to 5 cents per diluted share.

Wall Street analysts had expected the company to report net earnings of 20-32 cents per share in its fiscal second quarter, with a consensus of 27 cents, after reporting 61 cents in the year-ago quarter, Thomson Financial/First Call research reported.

Aber du kannst Dir ja jetzt mal die Perspektiven für des 2. Quartal bei ACG vorstellen.

Der Gewinneinbruch bei AMD lag bei 80 % !!

Híer handelt es sich nicht um Polemik, sondern um Realität, welche schon vor vielen Tagen abzusehen war.

Bei 5 Euro kaufe ich mir aber mal ne ACG.

Wenn man so die Futures sieht stellt sich wirklich nicht eine Weltuntergangsstimmung bei mir ein.
Die schlechten Zahlen sind weitgehend in den Kursen drin.
Es wird auch die anderen Firmen noch treffen. Das war nicht die letzte Gewinnwarnung.
Aber wie war das mit der Börse die die Lage 6 - 9 Monate vorausnimmt.
Dann wären wir in 2002 und I. Quartal 2002.
Ich glaube man wird wenn man langfristig investieren will kaum bessere Einstiegskurse mahr finden.
Den genauen Tiefpunkt kennt keiner, auch nicht den Zeitpunkt wann es nach oben dreht.

Mit einer überraschend hefttigen Gewinnwarnung hat das
weltweit zweitgrößte Halbleiterunternehmen AMD im
nachbörslichen Handel für Aufsehen gesorgt.AMD teilte mit,
im abgelaufenen zweiten Quartal einen Gewinn von nur 3 bis
5 Cents/Aktie zu erwarten, während Analysten mit einem
Gewinn von 27 Cents/Aktie rechnen.Auch sollen die Umsätze
im Quartal um 11% gegenüber dem Vorjahr auf 985 Mio $
fallen, was ebenfalls unter den eigenen Planzahlen von
1,08 Milliarden $ liegt.Die endgültigen Zahlen werde man
am 12.Juli präsentieren.Das Unternehmen erklärte, daß vor
allem die Schwäche im Flash-Memory-Markt für den
schlechten Ausblick verantwortlich sei.

WorldCom Changes Accounting, Cuts Outlook

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Voice and data services company WorldCom Inc. on Thursday cut the 2001 profit outlook for its main Internet unit due to a change in accounting of its stake in Brazilian carrier Embratel, and the recent purchase of Intermedia Communications Inc.


WorldCom, which owns a 19 percent stake in Embratel, Brazil`s largest long-distance telephone company, said it would no longer combine Embratel`s financial results with its own.

That change, as well its recent sale of debt, the acquisition of Intermedia, and increased depreciation, will cut the cash-earnings for the company`s WorldCom Group unit to $1.05 a share to $1.10 a share, from an earlier forecast of $1.21 a share to $1.31 a share.

Excluding Embratel, WorldCom Group`s 2001 revenues will increase 12 percent to 15 percent, compared with previous forecasts of 11 percent to 14 percent, the company said.

The WorldCom Group includes the company`s core data transmission and Internet operations. Last month, WorldCom restructured and created two stocks -- one to track the fast-growing data business and one to follow its stagnant long-distance telephone operations.

Clinton, Mississippi-based WorldCom`s stock, which has fallen about 69 percent over the past year, shed 19 cents, or 1 percent, to close at $14.28 on Nasdaq.


WORLDCOM DISTANCES ITSELF FROM EMBRATEL`S FLUCTUATIONS

Stripping out Embratel`s results, which are vulnerable to Brazil`s economy, will make WorldCom`s financial growth easier to predict, analysts said. It also could set the stage for WorldCom to divest its interest in Embratel, or give up its 52-percent voting control in the company.

``Embratel appears to be the fourth division at the company to be dismembered from the core company as its revenue growth turned south following the consumer, wholesale and managed-modem businesses, all of which are now in the MCI

tracker,`` CS First Boston analyst Dan Reingold said in a research report.

WorldCom began consolidating Embratel`s results with its own in the third quarter of 2000, when the Brazilian group posted revenue growth of 44 percent. Now, Embratel is expected to report ``flat to negative growth at best`` in the current second quarter, Reingold said.

Embratel, however, said the de-consolidation ``changes nothing in regards to Embratel. It is merely a financial restructuring to isolate the impact of movements in the exchange rate on the company`s business.``


Q2 RESULTS IN LINE WITH EXPECTATIONS

The company also said its second-quarter results were in line with Wall Street expectations. WorldCom Group`s revenues will increase 11 percent to 13 percent and be in the range of $5.3 billion to $5.4 billion.

WorldCom Group`s 2001 cash flow, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), will be in the range of $7.8 billion to 8.3 billion.

Cash earnings, excluding items such as currency loss, will be between 28 cents a share and 29 cents a share, in line with Wall Street`s consensus estimates, the company said.

Reingold reinstated a ``hold`` rating on WorldCom, saying that ``fundamentals at the core continue to decelerate`` to an estimated 12.3 percent revenue growth in the second quarter, from 13.1 percent growth in the first-quarter.

``This deceleration comes as no surprise to us as we have been concerned about the incumbent long- distance industry for quite a while given the continued pricing pressure ... and the (market) share loss that we believe WorldCom is highly susceptible to, given its legacy pricing structure`` compared with new competitors like Qwest Communications International Inc. and Global Crossing Ltd., Reingold said.

He warned that WorldCom, which gets 70 percent of its revenues from voice and data long-distance transmission services, may lose corporate customers as the Baby Bells increase their presence in the long-distance market.


WORLDCOM ADJUSTS STRUCTURE, DEBT LOAD

WorldCom has been working to restructure and cut expenses as it battles increased competition, weak calling prices, and exposure to Brazil`s currency woes. The Brazilian real has fallen about 20 percent over the past year.

WorldCom changed the accounting for Embratel by contributing its 19-percent economic stake into an endowment for Institute Embratel 21, which will provide high-speed broadband access to the National Library of Brazil`s Multimedia Digital Library Project.

WorldCom said the foundation will be entitled to dividends and distributions on certain common shares of Embratel, and it also gave R$1 million, or $435,000, to fund start-up expenses.

Separately, WorldCom said its subsidiaries would repurchase $672 million in debt due January 15, 2006. WorldCom in May sold $11.9 billion of bonds, the largest bond sale ever conducted by a U.S. company, using high yields to garner strong investor demand.

Analysts said it also added about $3 billion in debt through the acquisition of voice and data services company Intermedia, which closed on Sunday. The Intermedia acquisition gave WorldCom a controlling interest in Web site hosting company Digex Inc. (NasdaqNMIGX - news)

EMC Warns Earnings, Sales to Fall Short
HOPKINTON, Mass. (Reuters) - Data storage giant EMC Corp.(NYSE:EMC - news) on Thursday warned that its revenues and earnings for the second quarter would fall well short of Wall Street estimates due to the global slowdown in technology spending.

EMC said it expected its second quarter revenues to be about $2 billion, and earnings per share to be in the range of 4 cents to 6 cents a share. That compared with the Wall Street consensus for earnings of 17 cents a share and revenues of $2.43 billion.

``The earnings results for EMC`s major customers -- the bulk of the S&P 500, for example -- have been like a ball rolling down a hill for each of the past three quarters. When our customers earn less money, most of them have less to spend on IT, and they take a longer time to spend what they do have,`` said EMC Chief Executive Joe Tucci.

INTEL-FINANZCHEF - KONJUNKTUR IN DER BRANCHE ERHOLT SICH NOCH NICHT

Santa Clara, 15. Okt (Reuters) - Der weltgrößte
Chiphersteller Intel (INTC.O) hat im dritten Quartal 2002 den
Gewinn im Vergleich zum schwachen Vorjahresquartal deutlich
gesteigert, die Erwartungen von Analysten aber verfehlt.
Der Reingewinn sei im Berichtsquartal auf 686 (Vorjahr 106)
Millionen Dollar oder zehn (zwei) Cent je Aktie gestiegen,
teilte Intel am Dienstag in der kalifornischen Santa Clara mit.
Ohne Einmalposten habe der Gewinn je Aktie elf Cent betragen.
Analysten hatten den Gewinn je Aktie auf dieser Basis im
Durchschnitt mit 13 Cent prognostiziert.
