Mercury records 3rd Consecutive Quarterly Profit
Mercury Scheduling Systems Inc. (MRY:CDNX) is pleased to announce fourth
quarter results of an EBITDA gain of $232,577 and a profit of $123,313. This
represents the company`s third consecutive quarterly profit and demonstrates
Mercury`s commitment to cash flow positive operations and financial stability.
The company`s gross revenue for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2001, was
$4,800,431, an increase of 50% over the previous year ($3,197,580 -- 2000). As a
result, Mercury posted a loss of $456,342 for the year versus a loss of $2,116,630
in the previous year. Due to the last three strong quarters, Mercury finished the
fiscal year with a nominal loss before non-cash items of $71,829 (see Consolidated
Statement of Cash Flows). Indeed had regulation Statement of Position 97-2 (SOP
97-2) for software revenue recognition not required the deferral of $380,643 of cash
receipts the company would have had a significant EBITDA gain and nominal loss
for the year.
SOP 97-2 requires the deferral of revenue collected where the agreement governing
the receipts was not signed prior to the fiscal year end. Instead, the actual
agreement was signed in July 2001. As a result, the company will recognize this
revenue in the first quarter of fiscal year 2002.
The company`s cash position (including short-term investments and restricted
short-term investments) decreased to $2,345,258 from $3,236,581 at April 30, 2000.
This decrease is offset by a corresponding increase in accounts receivable, which
was $1,344,192 at year end versus $515,186 at the previous year end. The increase
in accounts receivable is partially due to billings related to both the DHL and
Maersk Magellan installation occurring around the year end. As a result, the
company`s working capital position has remained strong at $3,148,808. Excluding
the revenue deferred under SOP 97-2 of $380,643, working capital would be even
stronger at $3.5 million.
The attached financial statement highlights have been provided without the Notes to
the Financial Statements and Management Discussion. For a more detailed
analysis of the financial results for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2001, please visit
Mercury`s website at mercury.bc.ca and review our 2001 Annual Report.
