"Some oil producing countries will have to deliver tangible support for the upcoming US war on terrorists or suffer the consequences," ESAI said.
Analysts said this will mean tough choices for some OPEC members. "This is a challenge to OPEC, because this could splinter what has been a pretty solid group," said Phil Flynn of Alaron Research.
The OPEC cartel on Wednesday moved to reassure industrialized nations that leading oil producers would step up supply if necessary to keep oil prices under control, but that such a move was not needed yet.
"As things stand today we can remain calm," said OPEC Secretary-General Ali Rodriguez. "For the moment no action is required and only a significant change in the market fundamentals would make a change necessary."

Terrorist outrages in the US on Tuesday could have far reaching consequences for OPEC, analysts believe.
"It is too early to rule out potential involvement by oil producers, including Iran, Iraq, the UAE and Libya," said consultants Energy Security Analysis (ESAI) in Boston.
Senior US officials have said initial evidence pointed to the organization of Osama bin Laden, the Saudi-born dissident now living in Afghanistan who is blamed for bombing two US Embassies in East Africa and other anti-American attacks.
"Some oil producing countries will have to deliver tangible support for the upcoming US war on terrorists or suffer the consequences," ESAI said.

Die Abhängigkeit vom Öl ist auf Dauer unerträglich
Deshalb werden Brennstoffzellen der Bringer.
Es dauert indes noch Jahre bis hierfür die Logistik
steht.

da bringt ihr mich auf einen gedanken. es gibt doch nicht nur öl aus dieser gegend. die russen und in skandinavien sind doch auch riesige erdülvorkommen. bei den skan. ist es relativ teuer zu fördern und die russen scheinen noch nicht die richtige technik zu haben ihre riesigen vorkommen billig zu fördern.
könnte es jetzt nicht sein, daß sich die westliche welt vom öl der saudis abwendet und versucht die anderen vorkommen zu fördern?
welche firmen würden davon provitieren? was meint ihr?
