SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- This former new economy titanic hasn`t exactly sunk, but everyone has jumped overboard for now.


Shares of Exodus (EXDS: news, chart, profile) were halted on the Nasdaq Market, pending news, but not before investors could exit in droves. On Tuesday, shares fell to 17 cents amid speculation the debt-burdened Web hosting company could announce that it`s filing for bankruptcy protection this week.

While the jury is out as to whether the company will announce bankruptcy, for a stock to be held for trading the announcement has to be financially material.

The announcement therefore could be a pre-packaged bankruptcy or a financial restructuring along with layoffs or an earnings warning.

Some analysts don`t see any catalyst for the company to announce a bankruptcy at this juncture, but expect Exodus to announce a major financial restructuring as well as job cuts.

Exodus might announce a major restructuring that would include shutting down Internet data centers and a 25 percent work force reduction, said Andrew Shroepfer of Tier 1 Research.

"The last statement Exodus made was that they`d have 3,000 employees by the end of the year. I`m hearing that they`ll drop that down to 2,000," said Shroepfer.

Exodus was not immediately available to comment.

Shroepfer just released a report encouraging Exodus to consider pre-packaged bankruptcy and focused on Covad Communications` (COVD: news, chart, profile) restructuring as a model. See previous Net Sense: Why bankruptcy can be a good thing.

Covad announced its intent to file for pre-negotiated bankruptcy protection on August 7. At the same time, the high-speed Internet DSL provider had already secured the majority approval of its bondholders to accept 19 cents to the dollar. Covad had $1.4 billion in debt and $500 million in cash at the time.

Exodus has $3.5 billion in debt. As of June 30, 2001, Exodus had commitments under capital leases and under non-cancellable operating leases of about $3.2 billion through 2016.

Bereits der alte CEO hatte in "bestimmten" Kreisen den
Chapter11 anvisiert. Die Quelle und Infos kamen bereits
am 9.9.01 per Mail.
Krause, ich glaube der weis nicht von was er redet.
Die Reko wird keinen Erfolg mehr haben.
