Eine Gewinnwarnung, aber welche Firma hadert nicht mit dem schwierigen Umfeld?

Statt wie erwartet 1,6 Mrd.$ Umsatz und einen Gewinn vor Zinsen, Steuern und Abschreibungen (Ebitda) von 400 Mio.$ zu erzielen, wird Global Crossing (1.07$, –40,6%) nur 1,2 Mrd.$ umsetzen und deutlich weniger als 100 Mio.$ verdienen. Der Betreiber von Glasfasernetzwerken, die Grossstädte in Asien, Europa und Amerika verbinden, leidet unter dem Zerfall der Preise in der Branche.
Um Kosten zu sparen, soll Global Crossing mit Asia Global Crossing zusammengelegt werden. John Legere, CEO von Asia Global Crossing, wird Chef des Unternehmens.

Ich bin dennoch fest überzeugt, dass bei einem Aufschwung der Märkte, GX überproportional profitieren wird. Einerseits müssen dann sämtliche Shortpositionen aufgelöst werden und andererseits ist -soweit mir bekannt- das Glasfasernetz fertig erstellt. Somit entfallen zukünftig die gewaltigen Investitionen, so dass die generierten Mittel (Cash Flow) zur Rückführung der Schuldenlast verwendet werden können. Dadurch wiederum wird sich die Ertragskraft weiter verbessern.

Kaufman Bros. setzt den Wert für das High-Speed Datenservice Unternehmen Global Crossing auf $3 fest, sollten die momentanen Irritationen beseitigt werden. Asia Global Crossing, die asiatische Tochter, mit der Global Crossing eine Fusion erwägt, wird durch Kaufman Bros. mit einer aktuellen Kapitalisierung von $1,4 Mrd. oder dem fünffachen des Ebitda für 2001 als gute Kaufgelegenheit qualifiziert. Asia Global Crossing habe als Qualitätsunternehmen einen Vorsprung gegenüber seinen Wettbewerbern von 2-4 Jahren. Ein Zeichen dafür sei auch die Fertigstellung des Nordnetzes von EAC (East Asia Crossing.

Global Crossing konnte im gestrigen Handelsverlauf um 42% auf $0,88 ansteigen, Asia Global Crossing konnte einen Kursgewinn von 22,6% verzeichnen.

Ich glaube nicht an einen Shortsqueeze bei GX, guckt euch doch mal an wann die meisten Leute short gegangen sind? Das war im Juni 2001, damals stand GX noch bei über 10$!!!!! Warum sollten sie jetzt panikartig Aktien zurückkaufen? Ich denke das der Anstieg der letzten beiden Tagen einfach eine technische Gegenreaktion zu den starken Kursverlusten der Woche zuvor ist!
Sehe das Szenario eher so, dass die Shorties zu diesen Kursen nach und nach Ihre Shortpositionen glattstellen, aber einen Shortsqueeze werden wir wohl nicht sehen!

Global Crossing exploring debt-to-equity swaps - paper
NEW YORK, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Global Crossing Ltd (NYSE:GX - news) has held preliminary discussions with potential investors about purchasing some of its weighty debt loan and swapping it for equity in the high-speed communications service provider, according to a report on Sunday.

The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company, which has about $9 billion of debt on its books, has talked to unnamed private equity firms and other potential strategic partners, such as telecom companies, about the debt-to-equity swap, according the Financial Times` Web site.

Global Crossing also has received firm offers for one of the two units -- Global Marine Systems and IPC Communications -- it put up for sale earlier this year and has generated preliminary interest in the other, the paper reported.

Combined, the two businesses could carry a price tag of about $1 billion, the paper said.

A spokeswoman for the company could not be reached Sunday.

The Financial Times said senior Global Crossing executives declined to confirm the discussions with outside investors.

The executives, however, noted the company had $2.4 billion in cash on hand that would see it through the end of 2002 -- money they said would not be used to purchase Global Crossing`s debt, currently trading at less than 30 cents on the dollar, the paper said.

Global Crossing shares, which closed Friday at 82 cents, are now 97 percent off their 52-week high of $25.75 and have fallen more than 60 percent since October 4, when it announced a cut in growth estimates for the second time in three months.

Since then, the company also has indicated it may merge with its majority-owned Asian affiliate, Asia Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:AX - news) to help expand its network reach and continue an ongoing cost-reduction program.

In the past three years, Global Crossing has undergone several reorganizations and is now operating under its fifth chief executive officer since it went public in August 1998.

The company, which built a high-speed fiber-optic communications network linking 27 countries and more than 200 major cities, has been hurt by falling prices, stiff competition and weak sales.

Global Crossing (GX:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) was up 8.5% in early trading after the Financial Times reported that the company is in early discussions to sell part of its $9 billion in debt in exchange for an equity stake.

The British newspaper also said Global Crossing has received serious offers for one of the two businesses it is trying to sell and has preliminary interest in the other one. Sales of Global Marine Systems and IPC Communications could reportedly bring in $1 billion.

Financial Times said Global Crossing has talked to unnamed private equity firms and other potential strategic partners such as telecom companies about the debt-to-equity deal.

Global Crossing, which built a high-speed fiber-optic communications network linking 27 countries, has been hurt by falling prices, stiff competition and weak sales. The stock is down to under $1 from a 52-week high of $25.75.

Wir weisen bereits seit Wochen darauf hin, daß die Kurserholung u.a. durch ein nicht unerhebliches Maß an Shortcovering getrieben wird.

Aus diesem Grund halten wir es nicht für sinnvoll während der kurz- bis mittelfristigen Kurserholung mit fundamentalen Argumenten ins Feld zu ziehen. Einem Short Squeeze kann man mit fundamentalen Argumenten nicht "beikommen".

Es gilt solange bullish zu sein, wie die Aufwärtstrends intakt sind. Sollte der DOW Jones den Durchmarsch auf die 11.000er Punktemarke machen, dann haben wir das zu akzeptieren. Als Trader ist für uns belanglos, ob der Index damit überbewertet ist oder nicht. Gleiches gilt für den Nasdaq oder den Semiconductor Index. Wenn beide Indizes steigen und nicht mehr aufhören zu steigen, dann weist dies möglicherweise auf Entgleisungen in der Psychologie der Marktmassen hin oder darauf, daß es einen Großteil der "Big Boys" in einem Short Squeeze "verkohlt". Solange der Trend intakt ist, gilt die bullishe Haltung. Warum sollte man einem Kurseinbruch vorweggreifen ? Sobald das "Buying on the dips" Pattern nicht mehr zieht, sollte man sich Gedanken darüber machen auf neutral oder bearish zu "switchen". Man wird genug Zeit haben, das Bias zu "switchen".

GX hatte ich seit diesen Sommer auf meiner WL. Zudem wurde GX für mein Verständnis zu stark verprügelt/geshortet. Die Zeit für einen Rebound musste kommen.
Aber wie hoch geht das Teil noch hoch?
Who knows. Immer schön auf der Hut sein oder aber längerfristig denken. GX könnte ein Winner werden.

Ehrlich gesagt hab ich die Hosen voll. Ich bin bei 0,47€ und 0,97€ eingestiegen und habe jetz einen satten Gewinn.
Mir ist es schon öfter passiert das ich zu gierig war und dann in die Röhre geschaut habe.
Ich seh mir das ganze jetzt mal ein paar Tage an und dann entscheide ich, ob ich nochmal einsteige!!

Dann könnte man evtl. hochrechnen, ob GX den Turnaround aus eigener Kraft schafft (adjusted EBITDA der Tochter AX von 31% in 3. Quartal).
